HEFLIN — Funeral services for Debra Ann Ligon Cavender, 51, will be Tuesday, May 6, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Jerry Bolt and Jeffrey Waters officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens, Anniston. Ms. Cavender died Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Ms. Cavender was a life long resident of Cleburne County, was the Breakfast Manager of Jack's Family Restaurant in Oxford, Alabama. She attended Word Alive International Outreach Church. She is survived by sons, Allen (Angie) Cavender, Andy (Taylor) Cavender, both of Heflin; mother and father, Mary and Wilbur Ligon, both of Heflin; sister, Vickie Ligon; brothers Brian Ligon and Terry Ligon, all of Heflin; Grandchildren, Roland Cavender, Aidan Cavender, Drew Cavender, and Emma Cavender all of Heflin, Ala. and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Jason Ligon, Steven Cavender, Shane Young, Stuart Bentley, Allen Cavender and Andy Cavender. Dryden Funeral Home, Heflin, will direct the service.

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Regina "Gina" Frost, 49, will be Thursday, May 8 at 2 p.m. at Radney-Smith Chapel with The Rev. Charles Stone and The Rev. Danny Posey officiating. Burial will be in Tallasahatchie Cemetery, Alpine. Mrs. Frost died Saturday, May 3 in Lithia Springs, Ga.. She was a member Papertown Baptist Church and was a loving wife, mother and beloved sister in Christ. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Michael Frost of Sylacauga; daughter, Emily Locke of Sylacauga; son, Bradley Locke of Decatur, Ga.; brothers, Stephen Withrow of Lithia Springs, Ga.; Ricky Withrow of Decatur, Ga.; Ronnie Withrow of Tyrone, Ga.; and David Stripling of Rome, Ga.; granddaughter, Susannah Rice of Sylacauga; grandson, William Rice of Douglasville, Ga.; Aunt and Uncle, Dean and Paul Mealer of Adairsville, Ga..

WILLIAM ALBERT GAITHER

PRATTVILLE — William Albert Gaither, 72, a resident of Prattville, Ala., formerly of Talladega, Ala., passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 4, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at 10:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church, Prattville, Ala., with Dr. Travis Coleman and The Reverend Dave Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. Gaither was born May 11, 1935, to the late Otis and Nannie Mae Gaither. He was a graduate of Troy State University with both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education. He proudly served his country for 24 years in the United States Marines and the Alabama National Guard. His professional career as an educator spanned 18 years with the Talladega County School System and nine years as a volunteer tutor with the Prattville Primary School. Mr. Gaither also was a resident of Greenville, Ala., prior to returning to Talladega, where he was an active member of the Jayceeís; The Boy Scoutís of America; and a coach for the Greenville Youth Football League. In Talladega, he was an active member of the Civitan Club; President of the Talladega County Education Association; the recipient of the Teacher-of-the-Year Award, and a teacher of the Training Union class at the First Baptist Church. He was an active member of Prattville First Baptist Church, and a member of the Ken Russell Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by one brother, Clyde Gaither. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Elaine Owen Gaither; one daughter, Sheila (Jeff) Bailey; two sons, Shanon (Barbara) Gaither, and William (Lorie) Gaither, II; 12 grandchildren, Lauren (Brandon) McKerley, Rachel Johnson, Sarah Jane Gaither, Blaine Gaither, Evan Grace, Carly Gaither, Scott Gaither, Lawrence Gaither, Justin Bailey, Jarrett Bailey, and Alex Davis; four sisters, Lora Mae Gaither, Gene Barnes, Nettie (Ray) Studdard, and Lil Anthony; three brothers, Paul (Edwina) Gaither, Louie (Brenda) Gaither, and Talmadge (Sherry) Gaither; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

PELL CITY — Mrs. Thelma Gaither Jones, 85, died Sunday, May 4, 2008. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy faith. Preceded in death by her husband, John D. "Bob" Jones; by a son, Claude C. Summerlin, Jr., and by 3 sisters, Ruby Furguson, Eula McDaniel, and Beulah Fikes. She is survived by sons, Jerry Wayne (Nancy) Summerlin of Ashville, Johnny Jones of Newton, Ala.; sister, Betty Frances Gaither of Pell City; caregivers, Peggy Mims & Patsy Elliott, several grandchildren & great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson; nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 6, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home, Pell City.

Survivors are grandchildren: John Wallace Wilson Kidd of Talladega, George Kid III, Ava Kidd Howard, Nicole Kidd, Leola Brown, Trina Kidd all of Detroit, MI, Mark Kidd of Ohio, 17 great grandchildren, many great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Processional will leave Sims Funeral Home at 10:40 am and the Repast will be in the Fellowship Hall of New Hope United Methodist Church. Sims Funeral Service will direct.

TALLADEGA — Graveside rites for Mr. Ernest Jerry Kiker, 63, were Monday, May 5 at Blue Eye Baptist. Renea Rogers officiated. Mr. Kiker died Saturday, May 3 at Citizens BMC. He was preceded in death by parents, Melvin Caldwell Kiker and Myra Phillips Finley, and brothers, Melvin Kiker and Billy Kiker. He was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega County. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School. He was employed by Georgia Pacific. He is survived by son, Patrick W. Kiker of Talladega; sisters, Pansy (Wayne) Fincher of Talladega; Annis Ledbetter of Lincoln, Nola Dean Gravette of Anniston, Janice (Bob) Tiney of Riverside; brothers, Carey (Marie) Kiker of Lincoln, Dennis Kiker of Lincoln. Burial will follow in Hepzibah Baptist Cemetery. He died Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Citizens BMC in Talladega. He was a native of Arkansas. He had lived in Talladega Co. since 1949, member of Hepzibah Baptist Church, served in WWII as Seaman 2nd Class U.S. Navy, retired from Kimberly-Clark Corp. after 33 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mandy Pennington; brothers, Richard Pennington & Milburn Pennington. He is survived by wife, Annie Pennington of Talladega; sons, William L. "Ron" Pennington, Sr. of Alpine, George C. Pennington of Childersburg, Larry D. Pennington of Talladega, Adam S. Pennington of Talladega; step-son, Edward Taylor of Talladega; step-daughter, Nettie Pearl Goodwin of Talladega; sisters, Cliffie Oden of Alexander, Ark., Faye Thomas of Bastrop, La., Mamie Wisecarven of N. Little Rock, Ark., Marlene Dowden of Bossier City, La.; 11 grandchildren & 8 great-grandchildren.

PELL CITY — Funeral services for Hansel Edison Ramsey, 76, will be Wednesday, May 7 at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with burial in Boykin-Truitt Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 1 to 2 at the church. Mr. Ramsey died May 4, 2008. He is preceded in death by his parents Luther & Susie Ramsey, brothers, Harold & Edmon Ramsey, sister, Lucille Goodwin, and grandson Wesley Ramsey. He is survived by wife, Sybil Ramsey; sons, Steve (Cathy) Ramsey; Mike (Wanda) Ramsey; Scott (Phyllis) Ramsey; grandchildren, Cory (Jessica) Ramsey; Amy (Joseph) Franklin, Niki Ramsey, Irena Ramsey, Jason Ramsey, Skyler Ramsey, Sheree Forister; great-grandchildren, Anna, Jasmine, Christian, Emily, Lindsey, Madison. JIMMIE SUE HYCHE SYKES

CHELSEA — Jimmie Sue Hyche Sykes, 73 of Chelsea (formerly Crumly Chapel) went to be with the Lord, whom she loved very much, on May 5, 2008. She was born May 12, 1934 in the coal mining camp of Barney, Alabama. She grew up in Cordova, Ala. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Henry Sykes. Also parents, Claude & Mamie Hyche and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children who loved her very much; son, Henry C. Sykes, Jr. of Alabaster; daughters, Cindy (Tony) Picklesimer of Chelsea, Anita (John) Gravitt of Forestdale and Beverly (Todd) Wallace of Chelsea; her precious grandchildren, Emily Sykes, Craig Sykes, Shane (Kathryn) Picklesimer, Brandon (Lee Ann) Picklesimer, Brad (Nicole) Gravitt, and Adam (Tabitha) Gravitt; sister Marie (Ray) Sides of Dovertown and brother, Harold Hyche of Dovertown. She was a devoted wife and wonderful Mother and Grandmother. She was a homemaker who took great pride in her family. A special thank you and much love to her companion and caregiver, Marla Smith. She loved Marla very much. Also a special friend Steve Hill who stood by her and her family thru a difficult illness. Also thank you to New Beacon Hospice of Shelby County. Services will be at Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home in Jasper, The Rev. Keith Pugh will be officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Collins Burke. SYCAMORE — Funeral services for Ada Lee White, 82, will be at on Tuesday, May 6, at 2 p.m. at the Corinth Baptist Church in Sylacauga, the Rev. Willie Ashley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. White died on May 1, 2008 at Coosa Valley Medical Center. She is survived by seven daughters, Earnestine Swain of Childersburg, Bertha Ashley of Talladega, Julie Garrett of Alpine, Debra Davis, Tammy Barlow and Karen Gamble all of Sylacauga, and Alfreda Milliner of Detroit, Mich.; two sons, William White of Detroit, MI, and Kevin White of Sylacauga; sister, Parthenia Hollanquest of Sylacauga; brother, Bobby Funderburg of Talladega; 39 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Flowerbearers will be friends of the family.

Mrs. Williams died Monday, May 5, 2008. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherri Marie Williams, son, Tony Williams, mother, Kathleen Evans, father, Horace Evans, brothers, Roy Evans and Howard Evans. She is survived by her son, Michael (Pam) Williams; daughter, Cheryl (Mark) Sides; sisters, Glenda Lee, Mary Lou Keller; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild. She was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega County, a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and a retired employee of the Wehadkee Yarn Mills. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Millard Gooden; daughters, Angie Gooden and Monica Joy Sutherland; sons, Ronald Lynn Gooden, James Gooden and Kenneth Gene Gooden Sr. She is survived by a daughter, Sue (Jake) Thrower of Talladega; sons, Mitchell Ray "Mickey" (Wreatha) Gooden of Talladega; Joe Daniel (Stella) Gooden of Carrollton, Ga., Jerry Franklin (Dorothea) Gooden of Talladega, Timothy Millard Gooden of Springville, Kenneth Gene (Megan) Gooden Jr. of Sylacauga; daughter-in-law, Nancy Gooden of Talladega; 22 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. DELIAH "BIT" HEATH NUNN

ALPINE — Funeral services for Mrs. Deliah "Bit" Heath Nunn, 81, will be Friday, May 9, at 1 p.m. at Kingston Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith B. Lawson, the Rev. Timothy Caldwell, the Rev. Richard Fair and the Rev. Tommy Hardy officiating. Burial will be in Kingston Baptist Church Cemetery, Alpine. Mrs. Nunn will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to service. Mrs. Nunn died Saturday, May 3, 2008 at her residence. She was educated in the Talladega County School System and worked for Mr. Ed King for over 30 years. She was a dedicated, faithful member of Kingston Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board for many years. She was preceded in death by her son, Gregory; parents, Jim (Lessie) Heath; three brothers and one sister. She is survived by daughters, Margaret J. Nix of Talladega and Grace Hampton of East Orange, NJ; brothers, James (Mildred) Heath of Ashland, Walter (Johnnie) Heath of Childersburg, John P. Heath, Eddie Heath and Wiley (Nellye) Heath all of Alpine; sisters, Area Adams of Gadsden and Marie Heath of Anniston; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Terryís Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the services.
