Ralph Hale
Ralph William Hale, 83, a native of Montreal, Canada and resident of Citronelle, died Jan. 2, 2005, at residence. He was a retired charter boat captain. He was a member of Living Word Church. He Served in the Army during World War II. He is survived by one Son,Richard Hale of Citronelle; two daughters, Linda James of Los Angeles, Calif. and Donna Aderhold of Citronelle; one sister, Barbara Vetter of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The family recieved friends Jan. 4, 2004 until the memorial service at Living Word Church in Citronelle. Arrangements were handled under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.

Robert Schell
Robert Fletcher Schell, a resident of Chatom, died Dec. 30, 2004. He was 73. Survivors include his wife, Inda Lou Schell of Chatom; two sons, Robert Fletcher Schell Jr. of Orange Beach and Thomas Milton Schell of Chatom; two daughters, Kay Schell Beech of Chatom and Ellene Schell Brown of Millry; two brothers, John T. Schell of Huntsville, and Luther W. “Bubber” Schell of Sunflower; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services for Schell were held Jan. 1, 2005 at Chatom First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Chatom Cemetery. Arrangements were handled under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom.

William Denton
William Everett Denton, 86, a native of Dentontown, Miss. and a resident of Citronelle, died Dec. 27, 2004. Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Turner Denton of Citronelle; one son, W. Timothy Denton of Birmingham; one daughter, Jenny Bain of Jackson, Miss.; two sisters, Hazel Sprayberry of Gore Springs, Miss. and Christine Sprayberry of Greeneville, Tenn.; and six grandchildren. Services for Denton were held Dec. 29, 2004 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Don Lee officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Arrangements were handled under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.

Sallie Davis
Sallie Byrd Davis, 67, a native of Mobile and a resident of Mt. Vernon, died Dec. 31, 2004. Survivors include two sons, Johnny Edward Sullivan and Neal Curtis Sullivan; two brothers, Raymond Byrd and Wilford Byrd; two sisters, Liz Weaver and Lourenda Byrd, all of Mt. Vernon; and seven grandchildren. Services for Davis were held Jan. 4, 2005 at Lighthouse of Praise Holiness Church with Rev. Ken Davis officiating. Burial followed in Byrd Cemetery. Arrangements were handled under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.

C. J. Loper, Sr.
Charles Jerry Loper, Sr., 87, a native and resident of Millry, died Jan. 1, 2005. Survivors include his wife, Hattie Lou Loper of Millry; five sons, Charles Jerry Loper, Jr. and Garyb Gene Loper, both of Millry, Leland Loper of Jackson, Larry Mark Loper of Headland and James I. Loper of Centerville; one brother, Joseph Harold Loper of Ackerman, Miss.; two sisters, Demorris McFarland of Morristown, Tenn. and Kathleen Nagle of Slidell, La.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Services for Loper were held Jan. 3, 2005 at Millry Baptist Church. Burial followed in Kimbrough Cemetery. Arrangements were handled under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom.

Willie Belle Anderson
Willie Belle Anderson, 66, a native of Washington County and a resident of Wagarville, died Dec. 28, 2004. Survivors include her husband, Billy Anderson of Wagarville; three sons, William Anderson of Wagarville, Marcus Anderson of Biloxi, Miss. and Tracey Anderson of Barnesville, Ga.; a daughter, Anita Kuehner of Danville, Ken.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services for Anderson were held Dec. 30, 2004 at Jackson Assembly of God with Rev. E.C. Russell and her son, Tracey Anderson officiating. Burial followed in Trinity Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler.

David William Werneth
David William Werneth, a lifelong resident of Mobile, died Jan. 4, 2004. He was 37. Survivors include one daughter, Lauren Werneth of Saraland; five sons, Ryan Werneth and Jon Eric Werneth, both of Saraland, and Dennis Werneth, Jason Werneth and Scott Barnes, all of Bakersfield, Calif.; his mother, Wanda Long of Theodore; two brothers, Paul Werneth of Mobile and Richard Werneth of Chunchula; and one half-brother, James Long of Semmes. Graveside services were held Jan. 7, 2004 in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Charles McCain
Charles Victor “Bubba” McCain, 60, a resident of Sweet Water, died Dec. 11, 2004 Survivors include his wife, Sybil McCain of Sweet Water; a son, Ricky McCain of Butler; three daughters, Vicky Thorne of Demopolis, Nikki Smith of Cuba and Kristin Skinner of Butler; a step daughter, Connie Freeman of Linden; two brothers, John Val McCain of Millry and Jimmy McCain of Waynesboro; three sisters, Janice Baughman of Silas, Jean O’Neal of Chatom and Diane Allday of Wagarville; and eight grandchildren. Services were held Dec. 13, 2004 at Bumpers Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Allen officiating. Burial followed in Healing Springs Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler.

Fremon Byrd
Fremon Byrd, 72, a native of Mobile County and a resident of Mt. Vernon, died Jan. 6, 2005. Survivors include his wife, Rosie J. Byrd of Mt. Vernon; three step sons, Herman Lofton and Roy Rivers, both of Mt. Vernon and Dennis Byrd of Fairford; a daughter, Susan Brisby of Seattle, Wash.; one step daughter, Laura Hamm of Rome, Ga.; three brothers, Harold Byrd and Eddie Byrd, both of Mt. Vernon and Prentiss Byrd of McIntosh; five sisters, Nelrie Carroll of Fort Worth, Texas, Lola V. Taylor of Amite, La., Nancy Chestand and Shirley Byrd, both of Mt. Vernon and Kathryn Harvey of Fairford; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mass Christian burial was held Jan. 10, 2005 at St. Theresa Catholic Church with Rev. John Coglan officiating. Burial followed in Byrd Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler.

Murray Cost, Sr.
Murray Herbert Cost Sr., a native of Birmingham and a resident of Citronelle, died Jan. 5, 2005. He was 54. Survivors include one daughter, Theresa Squires of Satsuma; two sons, Murray Cost Jr., of Birmingham and Benjamin Cost of Mobile; his mother, Loretta Cost of Milan, Tenn.; two sisters, Joretta Bedgood of Alabama and Joy Liptock of Milan; two brothers, Jackie Cost of Citronelle and Thomas Cost of Creola; and six grandchildren. Services were held Jan. 8, 2005 at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. Burial followed in Old Whistler Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland.

Dolly Mott
Dolly Mott, 67, a native of Failetown and a resident of Citronelle, died Jan. 8, 2005. Survivors include a brother, Douglas Mott of Butler; a sister-in-law, Virginia Mott of Fayettville, Tenn.; and four nephews. Services for Mott were held Jan. 11, 2005 at Cedar Creek Church of the Brethren. Burial followed in Pine Crest Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.

Esther Scarbrough
Esther Maggie Scarbrough, 98, a native of Washington County and a resident of Tibbie, died Jan. 7, 2005. Survivors include one son, Robert L. Scarbrough of Millry; two daughters, Earline Forbus of Mobile and Dorothy Toomey of Tibbie; 13 grand children, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Services for Scarbrough were held Jan. 11, 2005 at Barlow United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom.
