Denzel Weaver
Denzel Maxine Weaver, 90, a native of Mobile and a resident of Calvert, died Jan. 9, 2005. Survivors include two sons, Hayward Weaver of Mt. Vernon and T. Norman of Fairford; two daughters, Eunice T. Weaver and Judy Faye Sullivan, both of Fairford; 28 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Services for Weaver were held Jan. 12, 2005 at Home Gospel Church with Rev. Paul Chestang, Rev. Phil Herr and Rev. Michael Byrd officiating. Burial followed in Saint Thomas Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.

Henry Peters
Henry Peters, a native of Prichard and a resident of Saraland, died Jan. 6, 2005. He was 78. Survivors include one daughter, Jamela Peters of Prichard; three sisters, Rosa Stewart of Whistler, Sally Pettaway of Prichard and Delois Frenceroy of Wilmot, Ark.; and one brother, Elijah Peters of Whistler. Services for Peters were held Jan. 15, 2005 at True Light Baptist Church. Burial will be in Prichard Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Prichard.

Linda Havard
Linda R. Havard, a native of Roanoke and a resident of Citronelle, died Jan. 8, 2005. She was 52. Survivors include her husband, James E. Havard of Citronelle; three sons, Richard Shannon Havard of the U.S. Air Force in Stuttgart, Germany, and Greg Havard and Chris Havard, both of Citronelle; four sisters, Gloria Peckham of Lafayette, Paula Larson of Redmond, Ore., Becky Henry of Semmes and Rachael Cobb of Citronelle; four brothers, Vernon “Junior” Bassett of Opelika, Ray Bassett of Lafayette, Rodney Bassett of Pine Level, and Rodney Hill of Semmes; and four grandchildren. Services for Havard were held Jan. 12, 2005 at Radney Funeral Home. Burial followed in Gulf Crest Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland.

Mitchell Patterson
Mitchell Patterson, a native of Ohatchee and a resident of Eight Mile, died Jan. 8, 2005. He was 58. Survivors include his mother, Mary Bennett of Fruitdale; one brother, David E. Patterson of Eight Mile; and seven sisters, Debra Dingler of Satsuma, Pam Hosford of Fruitdale, Elsie Green of Chickasaw, Brenda Powell of Saraland, Betty Harvison of Citronelle, Marty Harris of Deer Park, and Patricia Booker of Wilmer. Services for Patterson were held Jan. 12, 2005 at Gilmer’s Funeral Home. Burial followed in Wolf Ridge Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Gilmer’s Funeral Home in Mobile.

Clifford Orso
Clifford “Big Shot” Orso, age 64, a native and resident of McIntosh died Tues., Jan. 25, 2005, at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center in Mobile. He was a member of Reed’s Chapel Baptist Church. He Served in the Navy and Alabama Army National Guard. He was a longtime little league baseball coach and avid supporter of all McIntosh High School athletics. He is survived by his daughter, Greta G. Orso of Creola; three sons, Cliff A. Orso of Creola, Ryan K. Orso of Creola and Michael R. Orso of McIntosh; two sisters, Toni Orso of Greenville, N.C. and Charlie B. Orso of New Orleans, La.; one brother, Johnny M. Orso of Harvey, La.; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services for Orso were held on Jan. 28, 2005 at Reed’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Justin Lott officiating. Burial followed in Reed’s Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.

Thomas Henderson
Thomas Randall Henderson, 38, a native of Mobile and a resident of Malcolm, died Jan. 23, 2005. Survivors include his mother, Sharon Henderson of Malcolm, two brothers, Mark Henderson of Axis and Dwain Henderson of Mt. Vernon; and two sisters, Wanda Evans of Fairford and Donna Ryals of Satsuma. Services for Henderson were held Jan. 26, 2005 at Lockler Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Perkins officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Vernon Community Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.

Jesse Rigney
Jesse Barkley Rigney, 83, a native of State Line and a resident of Chatom, died Jan. 22, 2004. Survivors include his wife, Jola McLain Rigney of Chatom and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Services for Rigney were held Jan. 24, 2005 at Lathan Funeral Home. Burial followed in Grace Williams Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom.

Elroy Wade, Sr.
Elroy Wade, Sr., 61, a native of Coffeeville and a resident of Jackson, died Jan. 25, 2005. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Denise Wade of Jackson; three sons, Joseph Lee Tolbert, Elroy Wade, Jr. and Bradley Robert Wade, all of Jackson; one daughter, Dawn Brown of Chatom; one brother, Carlton Wade; one sister, Annie Mae Motes, both of Jackson; and six grandchildren. Services for Wade were held Jan. 28, 2004 at Lathan Funeral Home. Burial followed in Trinity Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson.

Mollie Stewart
Mollie Stewart, 102, a native of Washington County and a resident of Mobile, died Jan. 28, 2005. Survivors include a daughter, Carrie Mills of Mobile; two sons, Alford Reed of Citronelle and Grady Moore of Mobile; a brother, Joseph Reed of Detroit, Mich.; a sister, Augusta Weaver of Chickasaw; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held Jan. 31, 2005 in Byrd Cemetery with Rev. Byron Jones officiating. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.

Alberta Roberts
Alberta Massengill Roberts, 101, a native of east Tennessee and a resident of south Alabama, died Jan. 23, 2005. Survivors include one son, James Roberts of Florence; two daughters, Jean Aubey and Hixann Gaston, both of Mobile; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother, James Masengill of Pittsburg, Penn.; and other relatives. Services were held Jan. 26, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Coffeeville. Burial followed in Ulcanush Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson.

Dottie Mims
Dottie Lynn Barineau-Mims, 23, a native of Tallahassee, Fla., and a resident of Citronelle, died Feb. 4, 2005 at USA Medical Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Citronelle. She is survived by her parents, Mike and Sherry Mims. one brother, Bryan Mims; two sisters, Kattie Mims and Brittany Mims, all of Citronelle; three aunts, Dorothy Mills of Citronelle, Julie Herrington of Chickasaw and Linda Kinsey of Tallahassee, Fla.; three uncles, Robbie Herrington of Chickasaw, Jon Troemper of Saraland and Mike Troemper of Kingman, Ariz.; and her grandmother, Shirley Blevins of Satsuma. Services were held Feb. 6, 2005 at Freeman Funeral Home. Burial followed in Pine Crest Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.

Lutisha Reed
Lutisha Reed, 72, a native and resident of Sims Chapel, died Feb. 1, 2005. Survivors include two daughters, Earline Rivers Daniels and Cynthia Rivers, both of McIntosh; a son, Lutcher Lavern Echols of Sims Chapel; two brothers, Percy Rivers of McIntosh and Gene Rivers of Eight Mile; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Services were held Fev. 4, 2005 at Rivers Baptist Church with Rev. Samuel Rivers officiating. Burial followed in Rivers Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.

Vernon Weaver
Vernon Weaver, Jr., 52, a native of Mobile and a resident of McIntosh, died Feb. 6, 2005. Survivors include two sons, Richard Vernon Weaver and Johnny Weaver, both of Mobile; a daughter, Tracie Weaver of McIntosh; two brothers, Tommy Dwayne Weaver of McIntosh and Harold Weaver of Calvert; and seven grandchildren. Services were held Feb. 10, 2005 at Mount Moriah Baptist Church with Rev. Dwight Weaver and Rev. Eddie Rivers officiating. Burial followed in Mount Moriah Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.

Miles Edward Williams, Sr.
Miles Edward Williams, Sr., 83, a native of Yellow Pine and a resident of Midfield, died Feb. 5, 2005. Survivors include four sons, Myles E. Williams, Jr. and Ronnie Williams, both of Jackson, Steve Williams of St. Stephens and Kenneth Williams of Montgomery; one daughter, Kitty Blackledge of St. Stephens; three sisters, Vivian Beech of Chatom, Lillian Older of Grand Bay and Kate Martin of Kissimee; two brothers, Herbert Williams of Theodore and Nolan Williams of Fruitdale; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Services were held Feb. 9, 2005 at Lathan Funeral Home. Burial followed in State Line Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom.

Robert Cleo Thornton
Robert Cleo Thornton, 76, a native and resident of Chatom, died Feb. 3, 2005. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Thornton of Chatom; one daughter, Teresa Ann Caskey of Houston, Texas; four sons, Robert Thornton of Lufkin, Texas, Ricki Thornton of Dumas, Texas, Barry Thornton of Chatom and Timothy Murrell of Ore City, Texas; three brothers, Earnest Thornton, II, Billy Thornton and Jimmy Thornton, all of Chatom; two sisters, Voncille Brown of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Delores Blount of McIntosh; and four grandchildren. Services were held Feb. 7, 2005 at Lathan Funeral Home. Burial followed in Springbank Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom.

Gladys Roberts Bedwell
Gladys Roberts Bedwell, 90, a native of Clarke County and a resident of Coffeeville, died Feb. 5, 2005. Survivors include one son, Dan Bedwell of Coffeeville; four daughters, Marie Sims of Coffeeville, Jo Ann Gibbons and Joyce Myers, both of Thomasville and Sue Stephens of Grove Hill; one brother, Grover Roberts of Grove Hill; one sister, Mary Parden of Coffeeville; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Services were held Feb. 7, 2005 at Ulcanush Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson.

Kathryn Jeanette Byrd
Kathryn Jeannette Byrd, age 50, of Mount Vernon, died Feb. 11, 2005, Survivors include her husband Collie Byrd; one son-Chris Bishop of Chunchula; one stepson, Russell Byrd of Mount Vernon; one stepdaughter, Cindy Weaver of Mount Vernon; one sister, Liza Sullivan of Mount Vernon; three brothers, Jesse Byrd, Fletcher Byrd, Jr. and Houston Weaver, all of Mount Vernon; and seven grandchildren. Service were held at Simple House of Praise Feb. 14, 2005, with Rev. James I. Scarbrough and Rev. Ken Davis officiating. Interment followed in Byrd Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.

William Newburn
William Joseph Newburn, 71, a native and resident of Citronelle, died Feb. 15, 2005. Survivors include one brother, Joseph R. Newburn of Vinegar Bend. Services were held Feb. 17, 2005 at Freeman Funeral Home with Rev. Calvin Henderson officiating. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.

Alvin Bentley
Alvin Chuck Bentley, 31, a native of Mobile and a resident of Chunchula, died Feb. 5, 2005. Survivors include his parents, Luke and Pat Bentley of Chunchula; his grandfather, Sidney Alvin Kanode of Theodore; and one brother, Joseph Lance Bentley of Chunchula. Services were held Feb. 8, 2005 at Freeman Funeral Home with burial following in Turnerville Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home.

Honor Strickland
Honor Right Strickland, 93, a native of Millry and a resident of Chatom, died Feb. 12, 2005. Survivors include one son, Colen Strickland of Mobile; three daughters, Mary Louise Batley of Leroy, Sybil Thompson and Sylvia Gunter, both of Chatom; one sister, Irma Duman of Hattiesburg, Miss.; 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Services were held Feb. 14, 2005 at the First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Chatom Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom.

Easter Mae Abrams
Easter Mae Abrams, a resident of Calvert, died Feb. 10, 2005. She was 64. Survivors include her husband, Sylvester Abrams of Calvert; five daughters, Myra Toole, Dana Abrams and LaBrenda Abrams, all of Calvert, Sonja Abrams of McIntosh and Tracy Abrams of Mount Vernon; five sons, Sylvester Abrams Jr. of Chatom, Lonnie Abrams of Citronelle, Marvin Abrams of Mount Vernon, Lendl Abrams of McIntosh and Corey Jackson of Calvert; one sister, Velma Turner of Franklin, Va.; and 12 grandchildren. Services were held Feb. 17, 2005 at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed in Vaughn Cemetery. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson.

Rita Harrison
Rita Dianne Harrison, 47, a native of Mobile and a resident of Saraland, died on Feb. 14, 2005. Survivors include one sister, Donna Fay Wilson; a brother, Sherman E. Harrison; nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives. Funeral services were held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Feb. 17, 2005. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland.

Jack Boyles
Jack Boyles, a native of Waynesboro, Miss. and longtime resident of Satsuma, died Feb. 23, 2005 at the age of 82. Boyles was a veteran of World War II having served in US Army in New Guinea and Southern Philippines in CO I 382nd Infantry. He worked for and retired from Mobile Water Works and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Saraland . Mr. Boyles was preceded in death by his daughter Shirlon Boyles. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Rachel Boyles; his four children Brenda (Steve) Britt of Semmes, Kenneth (Linda) Boyles and Wakey (Sherry) Boyles both of Saraland, and Sylvia (Wayne) Kimbrell of Jasper; 7 grandchildren 1 great grandchild; his brother Forest Boyles of Waynesboro, Miss; sisters Ella Smith of Waynesboro, Miss. and Etta Waller of Saraland; and many other loving relatives and friends. Services were held Feb. 26 at First Assembly of God Church in Saraland. Burial followed in Forrest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were provided under the direction of Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.
