AUDREY BUTTRAM

Services for Audrey Buttram, 91, were at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home. Rev. Rodney Ragsdale officiated. Burial was in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Buttram died April 4 at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, Ga.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Bill Morgan of Rome; four grandchildren, Warren Morgan and his wife Denise of Houston, Texas; Melissa O’Ferrall of Dalton, Ga., Helen Buttram of Mobile and Darryl Buttram of Piedmont; four great-grandchildren, Joshua Morgan, Audrey Morgan, Katelyn O’Ferrall and Abby O’Ferrall, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were nephews.

Mrs. Buttram was a Piedmont native and resident. She attended Trinity Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and working in her flowers. Her husband John Thurston Buttram preceded her in death.

SARAH LINDSEY

Services for Sarah Lindsey, 84, were at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home. Rev. Philip Cooper and Dr. Ed Coogler officiated. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.

Mrs. Lindsey died April 3 at Piedmont Health Care Center.

Survivors include her husband, Herman Lindsey of Piedmont; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Bill Gaines of Goshen and Diana and Jimmy Rogers of Cedartown, Ga.; three grandchildren, Matt Rogers of Piedmont and Michael Lindsey and his wife Heather and Jeffery Lindsey all of Rome, Ga.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Sonny Gossett of Alexis and Martha and Harlan Matthews of McCord Crossroads and a brother, Ed Gowens of Piedmont.

Pallbearers were nephews.

Mrs. Lindsey was a Cherokee County native and was a resident of Cave Spring, Ga., for 24 years before returning to live in Piedmont.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Piedmont and was a former employee of Lawtex Corporation. Her son Steve Lindsey, her parents Estelle and Pearl Gowens, two sisters, Carrie Jennings and Mary Francis Morris and four brothers, Hal Gowens, Denson Gowens, Joe Gowens and David Gowens preceded her in death.

Memorial donations can be made to the Bethel Cemetery Fund, Inc., Union State Bank, P.O. Box 455, Cedar Bluff 35959 or to a favorite charity.

TED D. RAY

Services for Ted D. Ray, 77, a native of Philadelphia, Miss., and resident of Orange Beach, were at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, in the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Foley. Burial was in Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley.

Mr. Ray died April 2 at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Ray of Orange Beach; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Mitchell Bragg of Jacksonville; a son and daughter-in-law, Ted D. and Gwen Ray Jr., of Daphne; six sisters, one brother; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and man y nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ray was owner and operator of Gulf Coast Foundry in Foley from 1967-76. He was chairman of the Orange Beach Water Authority, former Fire Chief of the Orange Beach Volunteer Fire Department and an avid outdoorsman. His son, Gary Ray preceded him in death.

Memorial donations can be made to the Orange Beach Volunteer Fire Department, American Lung Association, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

MAGGIE ELIZABETH SMITH

Graveside services for Maggie Elizabeth Smith, 74, were at 2 p.m. Monday, April 7, at Highland Cemetery. Thompson Funeral Home directed.

Mrs. Smith died April 4 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Jimmy Kirk of Spring Garden and Jane and Pete Fagan of Piedmont; a step son, Greg Smith of Atlanta; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Kirk, Pete Fagan, Sam Kirk, Michael Walker, Joey Shane Messer and Jeff Rhinehart.

Mrs. Smith was a Piedmont native and lifelong resident. She retired from Bostrom Seating.

Her husband Parker Smith, her parents Nealie and Annie Little and two sisters and brothers preceded her in death.

Memorial donations can be made to the Piedmont Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 333, Piedmont 36272.

EULA EVELYN SNIDER

Services for Eula Evelyn Snider, 84, were at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary. Revs. Garry Brown and Phillip King officiated. Burial was in Nances Creek Community Cemetery.

Mrs. Snider died March 30 at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Diana and Milton Kennedy; a son, Max Snider and his wife Windy; a grandson, Michael Estes and his fiancé, Ashley Nelson, and her daughter, Libby; two step grandchildren, Justin Crenshaw and Kayla Canada and her husband, Justin; a step great-grandchild, Trenton Canada; two sisters, Mildred Snider and Joyce Kadle and husband, Elvin; a brother, Raymond King and wife, Bernice; a special daughter, Debbie Kennedy; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Michael Estes, Justin Crenshaw, Justin Canada, Keith Kadle, David King and Tim Christopher.

Her husband, Charles F. Snider, a sister, Dorothy Sims, a brother, Fermond King, and her parents, Henry and May King, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Snider was a longtime resident of the West Point community, living the past few years at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. She was a homemaker and self-employed seamstress. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and listening to country music. She was a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church.

JACQUELINE JOYCE Gardner ALLEN

Services for Jacqueline Joyce Gardner Allen, 82, were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, in the chapel of Folsom Funeral Home. Rev. Wayne King officiated. Burial was in Gnatville Cemetery.

Mrs. Allen died April 6 at Piedmont Healthcare.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Terry Morrow; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Clemmie Gardner; four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Terry Morrow II, Jason Gardner, Jubal Donaldson, David Harris. Larry Evans, and Randall Gilley.

Mrs. Allen was born April 6, 1926, the daughter of the late Luther and Eula Ann Hendon Gilley.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Otis Gardner and by her recent husband Arnold Allen.

HELEN M. PARKER

Services for Helen M. Parker, 83, of Owensboro, Ky., were at 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, at Glenn Funeral Home. Burial was in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Parker died April 9 at her home.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, B.H. Parker; a son, Garland Parker of Owensboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Dan Dunbar of Owensboro; two grandchildren, Chris Parker and his wife Jennifer and Kevin Parker and his wife Kellie; a great-grandson, Kaleb Parker; a sister, Flossie Parris of Jacksonville; a brother, Phi McDougal of Arab and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Parker was born May 31, 1924 in Piedmont to the late Oscar and Neely McDaniel McDougal.

She retired from Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital and was a member of First Baptist Church.

She was a past matron and member of the Goel No. 104 Order of the Easter Star.

Mrs. Parker enjoyed crafts, especially making Christmas decorations and crocheting for others.

She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

CLYDE H. PIKE

Services for Clyde H. Pike, 86, were at 2 p.m. Friday, April 11, at the First United Methodist Church. Harris Hand officiated. Thompson Funeral Home directed.

Mr. Pike died April 8 at Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mary Elizabeth Payne Pike, a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Linda Pike of Huntsville; two grandsons, Shane Pike and his wife Jennie of Atlanta and Jason Pike of Birmingham; two great-grandchildren, Harrison Pike and Mary Elizabeth Pike of Atlanta; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Willa Dean Pike of Eastaboga, James and Betty Pike of Seattle, Wash., and Wayne and Judy Pike of Pell City; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Iva Bryant of Mobile and Helen and C. J. Dulaney of Pell City, and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Danny Stone, Frank T. Stewart, Ray Glover, Bobby Glover, Ken Grissom and Keith Word. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Frank Wofford Sunday School Class.

A native of Calhoun County, Mr. Pike was born Oct. 31, 1921 the son of the late Wesley Daley Pike and Ruth Bell Williams Pike. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Piedmont.

His most notable accomplishment was as director of the Piedmont Recreation Center which was later re-named and dedicated in his honor. “Clyde” raised several generations of Piedmont’s youth at the Civic Center.

BAKER

Graveside services for Fred S. Baker, 85, were at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Highland Cemetery. Father Alan Mackey officiated. Thompson Funeral Home directed.

Mr. Baker died April 17 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Buster Holland of Piedmont; two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred J. and Carolyn Baker of Prattville and Bill and Cynthia Baker of Piedmont, seven grandchildren, Tiffany Nicholson and her husband, Shane, Stacy Johnson, Ann Motes and her husband Edmon, Amy Pike and her husband Corey, Joey Baker, Frank Baker and Ted Baker; seven great-grandchildren, Brody Nicholson, Brady Motes, Brock Baker, Trevor Pike, Hunter Pike, Madison Pike and Zander Baker and special care giver, Helen Estes.

Mr. Baker was a native of Rock Run and had been a resident of Piedmont for many years. He was retired from the United States Navy and was preceded in death by his wife, Edna M. Baker and eight brothers and sisters.
