Velma Henderson

1911-2003

Funeral services for Velma "Dobbie" Henderson, 92, of Dadeville will be at 3 p.m., Monday, September 8, at First Baptist Church of Dadeville. Rev. Jim Pate and Brother Richard Hall will officiate. Burial will follow at the First Baptist Church of Dadeville. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, September 7.

Velma Henderson died Friday, September 5. She was born August 10, 1911 to Luke Tolbert Langley and Maggie Lee Reynolds Langley.

Velma Henderson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dadeville.

She is survived by her husband Raymond S. Henderson of Dadeville, her daughter Carolyn and Bill Moon of Dothan, her sister Julia Langley of Camp Hill and her niece, Susan Strong of Katy, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Sally Smith and her brothers Lewis Langley and Denson Langley.

Memorial flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Dadeville.

Langley Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

William "Bill" Carr of Eclectic died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at his residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Radney's Funeral Home.

Christine F. Gilliland

Sept. 8, 2003

Funeral services for Christine F. Gilliland, 81, of Dadeville will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Hillview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gilliland died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at Kindred Hospital in Atlanta.

Radney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Fannie Pearl Brooks

1927-2003

Funeral services for Fannie Pearl Brooks of Salem will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at Antioch Baptist Church in LaFayette. The Revs. Larry Tolbert and Calvin Marshall will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Brooks died Sept. 6, 2003, at East Alabama Medical Center. She was born June 23, 1927. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in LaFayette.

She is survived by one son, George Brooks Jr. and wife Wylene of Salem; one daughter, Alice P. Turner and husband Charlie of Salem; two sisters, Addie Hill of LaFayette and Willie Mae Jackson and husband Junior of Tallassee; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mollie Newman Burnett

1909-2003

Funeral services for Mollie Newman Burnett, 94, of New Site, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at Radney's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Hillview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Burnett died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at Brown Nursing Home. She was born April 11, 1909, in Tallapoosa County to Mansfield Newman and Greenie-Brown Newman. She was a weaver at Avondale Mills and was a member of New Pine Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Earl Burnett and wife LaRue of Alexander City and Bobby Burnett of Baton Rouge, La.; six grandchildren, Sharon McLain and husband Milton of Alexander City, Patti Mitchell and husband Reid of Eclectic, Jan Kennedy and husband Gary of New Site, Tim Burnett of Alexander City, Tracy Taylor and husband Glenn of Baton Rouge, La., and Bobby Burnett Jr. and wife Lisa of Baton Rouge, La.; one brother, Chester Newman and wife Mary Jo of Alexander City; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild..

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ruben Burnett.

Samuel Lee Jones Jr.

1949-2003

Funeral services for Samuel Lee Jones Jr., 54, of Goodwater will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at St. James AME Church. The Rev. Raymond Angel will officiate. Burial will follow at New Style Cemetery.

Mr. Jones died Aug. 14, 2003, at Baptist Medical Center Montclair. He was born Aug. 27, 1949, to Samuel L. Jones Sr. and Mae Etta Jones.

He is survived by his wife Mary G. Jones of Goodwater; three sons, Roderick Kennedy and wife Theresa of Rochester, N.Y., Terrance Harrison and wife Patricia and Samuel Smoot, both of Goodwater; three step-sons, Ray Charles Fuller of California, Edward Fuller and Arnold Fuller, both of Sylacauga; one daughter, Deandra Moon and husband Quintez of Kellyton; four step-daughters, Isabelle Chaverst of Childersburg, Annie Simmons and husband Terry of Goodwater, Marilyn Fuller and husband Lee and Tammy Murphy and husband Patrick, both of Sylacauga; two brothers, Charles Jones and wife Doris and Frank Jones, both of Goodwater; one sister, Teresa Horton of Kellyton, nine grandchildren, 24 step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel L. Jones Sr. and Mae Etta Jones.

John Calvin Odem

1943-2003

Funeral services for John Calvin Odem of Goodwater will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church in Millerville. The Rev. John D. Sandlin will officiate. Burial will follow at Macedonia Memorial Cemetery in Goodwater.

Mr. Odem died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. He was born Sept. 27, 1943, in Clay County to John Henry and Emma Hayes Odem.

He is survived by his wife, Bettye J. Odem of Goodwater; two sons, Michael Odem and wife Jessie of Goodwater and Starsky L. Simmons of Millerville; three daughters, Laviddia Simmons and husband Lovell and Tara Stowe and husband Michael, all of Goodwater, and Pamela Brooks and husband Marcus of Sylacauga; six sisters, Louise Mayes and husband Curtis of Chicago, Sarah Crease and husband Otis of Millerville, Emma Odem of Ashland, Linda Dixon and husband James and Bessie Kelley and husband Calvin, all of Mount Olive, and Jo Catherine Simmons and husband John of Goodwater; four brothers, Arthur Odem and wife Fannie and Harvey Odem and wife Peggy, all of Goodwater, Jerry Oliver and wife Felita of Millerville and Morris Oliver of Mount Olive; three grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Wayne Thomas Benson

1939-2003

Graveside services for Wayne Thomas Benson, 64, of Goodwater, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Socapatoy Cemetery. Rev. Clifford DeLee will officiate.

Mr. Benson died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003. He was born March 12, 1939.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Benson; two daughters, Lorri Conville and Terri Phillips; one son, Rodney Benson; two sisters, Fay Groom and Joan Hughes and 10 grandchildren. Flowers will be received at the Benson home at Rt. 3, Box 142B, in Goodwater.

Jeffcoat-Linville Funeral Home of Tallassee is handling the arrangements.

George A. Domeck

1925-2003

Graveside services for George A. Domeck, 78, of Tallapoosa County were at 2 p.m. Sept. 29, 2003, at Dadeville City Cemetery. The Rev. Don Bailey officiated.

Mr. Domeck died Sept. 27, 2003, at his residence. He was born Feb. 16, 1925, in Atlanta to George A. Domeck and Irene Dunn Domeck. He worked in security at Atlanta Merchandise Mart.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Domeck of Alexander City; one son, Michael Domeck of Calhoun, Ga.; one grandchild, Danielle Domeck and one niece, Beverly Dobbs of Richardson, Texas.

Flossie Coggins

1917-2003

Funeral services for Flossie Coggins, 86, of Jackson's Gap were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home. Bro. Miles Crouch and Terry Price officiated. Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003.

Mrs. Coggins died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Russell Medical Center. She was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Tallapoosa County to Ozey B. Milam and Matilda Craddock. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband Virgil Coggins of Jackson's Gap; two sons, Eugene Coggins of Valley and Michael Royce Coggins of Jackson's Gap; one daughter, Diane Harrelson of Tallassee; one sister, Jewel Carter and husband Wilton of Jackson's Gap; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Thelma Kizziah, Bessie Stanfield and Frances Forbus, all of Jackson's Gap.

Jose Manuel Flores

1976-2003

A memorial mass for Jose Manuel Flores, 27, of Alexander City will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Saint John the Apostle Catholic Church. Father Bruce Krause will officiate.

Mr. Flores died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, while visiting family in San Jose Del Xoconoxtle El Grande, Guanajuato, Mexico. He was born Aug. 6, 1976, in Guanajuato, Mexico, to Alfonzo Flores and Maria Flores. He was buried Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at 2 p.m. in Guanajuato, Mexico.

He is survived by two children, Alejandro "Alex" Manuel Flores and Olivia Maria Flores; his fiancé, Melissa D. Owens; seven brothers, Salvador Flores, Jose Flores, Alfonzo Flores, Felipe Flores, Martin Flores, Armando Flores and Jesus Flores and two sisters, Juana Flores and Josefina Flores.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Diego Flores and two sisters, Rosita Flores and Juditas Flores.
