Josephine Kahanec

A funeral mass for Josephine Kahanec, 83, of Dadeville will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Saint John the Apostle Catholic Church. Father Bruce Krause will officiate. Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to services. Burial will be held at a later date in Johnson City, N.Y.

Mrs. Kahanec was a member of Saint John the Apostle Catholic Church. Having lived 80 years of her life in New York, she moved to Dadeville due to health reasons to be near her daughter and family. She was a special resident of Wilder Nursing Home and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, John Kahanec of Johnson City, N.Y.; two daughters, Dr. Frances Kahanec Bartel and husband Dr. Robert Bartel of Dadeville and Patricia Kahanec of Johnson City, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Bobby Bartel of Tuscaloosa, Mary Jo Bartel, Eva-Lin Bartel and Johnny Bartel, all of Dadeville; her niece, Jeanne Pastore and nephew, James Morris, both of Binghamton, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Sav-A-Life of Tallapoosa County.

Frederick's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ison "Junior" Foreman

1930-2003

Funeral services for Ison "Junior" Foreman, 73, of LaFayette were Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at 1 p.m. The Rev. Calvin Marshall officiated. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Mr. Foreman died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003 at his residence. He was born March 24, 1930 in Chambers County. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in LaFayette.

He is survived by four children, Shelia Christian and husband Joe of Opelika, Rickey Foreman, Larry Foreman and Brenda Foreman all of LaFayette; a previous wife, Magnolia Foreman of LaFayette; eight step-children, Johnnie Flowers and husband Isaac and Allen Whitlow both of Lafayette, Bobby Whitlow and wife Lee Ann of Huguley, Elaine Allen of Dale City, Va., Baird Ray, John Allen Jr. and Jean Celester, all of Boston and Carolyn Davis of Sanderville, Ga.; one sister, Laura Brooks and husband James of Valley; a special nephew, Edward Broom and wife LaElla of LaFayette; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; one special friend, Robert "Sonny Boy" Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Allen Foreman and stepson Echols Whitlow.

Anthony L. Smith

1964-2003

Funeral services for Anthony L. Smith of Wadley were at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Hopewell Baptist Church in Wadley. The Rev. Calvin Trammell officiated. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Mr. Smith died Oct. 7, 2003, at Columbus Medical Center in Columbus, Ga. He was born June 17, 1964, in Chambers County. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Wadley.

He is survived by his mother, Bessie Smith of Wadley; four brothers, Charles Smith and wife Sheryl of Auburn, Michael Smith and wife Priscilla and John Wayne Smith, all of Wadley and Vonzell Smith of LaFayette; seven sisters, Brenda Melton and husband George of Roanoke, Charlotte Abner and husband Jessie of Jacksonville, Fla., Cathy Whittington and husband Rueben of Walnut, Calif., Priscilla Hudson and husband, Alfred of Milltown, Regina Ransom and husband Jimmy of Auburn, Jacqueline Smith of Fontane, Calif., and Sandra Smith of Lanett.

Silmon-Seroyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Theodis Sistrunk

1932-2003

Funeral services for Theodis Sistrunk, 71, of Camp Hill were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at New Adka Baptist Church in Dadeville. The Rev. Edward Milner officiated. Burial followed at Shiloh Cemetery in Camp Hill.

Mr. Sistrunk died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at his residence. He was born June 6, 1932, in Tallapoosa County to Roosevelt and Maudine Sistrunk in Camp Hill. He was a member of New Adka Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine Sistrunk of Camp Hill; two sons, Theodis Sistrunk and wife Carol of Birmingham and Willie Joe Sistrunk and wife Brenda of Brighton; one daughter, Mary Helen Mason and husband Kelvin of Orange, N.J.; seven sisters, Alberta Patterson, Roberto Monfus and husband Johnny and Mattie Carr, all of Orlando, Fla., Virginia Teague of Dadeville, Trudie Wilder of North Carolina, Louise Bracy of Colorado, Mary Helen Sistrunk of Los Angeles; two brothers, John Sistrunk of Orlando, Fla., and Richard Sistrunk of Tampa, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Theo Dowdell and Willie Frank Dowdell, both of Camp Hill; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Sistrunk.

Betty Ann Simmons

Betty Ann Simmons, formerly of Goodwater, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003. Funeral arrangements are incomplete but will be announced later by Armour's Memorial Funeral Home.

Nelladeane Chandler Burnett

Dec. 2, 2003

Funeral services for Nelladeane Chandler Burnett of Alexander City will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Revs. Dr. Gerald Hallmark and Clayton Gilbert will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Burnett died Dec. 2, 2003, at Chapman HealthCare Center. She was born in Birmingham to Nellie Collins Chandler and Roscoe Draden Chandler Sr. She was a graduate of Ensley High School and Alabama Women's College of Montevallo where she was a math and chemistry major and co-captain of the Gold Team her senior year. She was employed by Tennessee Coal and Iron, Alabama Power Company and Southern Research Institute where she was the first female chemist. With her husband, she later owned the Gulf Oil Distribution Plant in Alexander City. After the birth of her daughter she became a full-time homemaker.

She was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church and an active member of First Baptist Church in Alexander City where she taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Laurete Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was one of the first volunteers at Russell Hospital and served as president of the local American Cancer Society. For the last seven years she lived at Chapman Assisted Living where she had many friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Burnett Howard and son-in-law Bob Howard both of Alexander City; two grandchildren, Rebecca Burnett Howard and Robert Chandler Howard both of Alexander City; one sister, Evelyn C. Strickland of Nashville; two nieces, Louisa Strickland of Birmingham and Janie B. Curtis of Ocala, Fla.; and one nephew, Harry Sanders of Anniston.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years, George Edwin Burnett and a brother, Roscoe Draden Chandler Jr.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 400, Alexander City, AL 35010.

Ina E. Watson

1928-2003

Funeral services for Ina E. Watson, 74, of Dadeville will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at First Baptist Church in Dadeville. The Rev. Jim Pate will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at French Camp Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Langley Funeral Home.

Ms. Watson died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003. She was born Monday, Dec. 24, 1928, to Dock and Ora Edwards of French Camp, Miss. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Dadeville and was treasurer of the Phebean Sunday School class. She was a member of various civic clubs and retired from Camp ASCCA where she served on the advisory board. She was chair of the Tallapoosa County Chapter Easter Seals. She organized and was president of the Dadeville Area Cancer Support Group for several years. She was a member of the Loaves and Fishes Ministry for her church and of the chamber of commerce and loved helping others.

She is survived by one daughter, Carol Heller and husband Bob of Orlando; one son, Daniel Watson and wife Pauline of Orlando; two brothers, Andy S. Edwards and wife Nancy of Andalusia and Wm. B. Edwards of Dadeville; two sisters, Helen E. Kelly of Chevy Chase, Md., and Betty Jane Black of Kosciusko, Miss.; three grandsons; one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel M. Watson Sr. and her parents.

Memorials may be sent to Camp ASCCA, P.O. Box 21, Jackson's Gap or the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road N.E., Atlanta, GA.

Kate McClendon

1907-2003

Graveside services for Kate McClendon, 96, of LaFayette were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at LaFayette City Cemetery. The Revs. Charles Whitson and Clifford DeLee officiated. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Jeff Jones Funeral Home.

Mrs. McClendon died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Russell Medical Center. She was born Oct. 10, 1907, in Chambers County to Robert and Annie Williams. She was retired from Avondale Mills and was a member of LaFayette Heights Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Nell Smith of Lanett and Sandra Newberry of Alexander City; one son, Clyde McClendon Jr. of LaFayette; two sisters, Sarah Hansen of Lake Martin and Ruth Thomas of Lynchburg, Va.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Clyde McClendon Sr.

Lois Newberry Visney

1916-2003

Graveside services for Lois Newberry Visney, 87, of Mobile were at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at Alexander City Cemetery. Rev. Clyde Pressley officiated. Visitation was from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003 at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Visney died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, in Mobile. She was born July 2, 1916, in Tallapoosa County to Lois L. and Sarah Emfinger Newberry. She was retired from the U.S. Civil Service, served with Meal of Wheels in Mobile and was a member of the Dauphin Way United Methodist Church of Mobile, the United Methodist Women, the Church Women United of Mobile, the Mobile Jointed Legislative Council and Beta Sigma Phi.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Robert Earle Moore, Bernie Newberry, Calvin Newberry, Bill Whatley, John Whatley and Ronnie Bolan.

The family requests no flowers, but contributions may be made to Dumas Wesley Community Center, P.O. Box 7325, Mobile, AL 36670.

William David Blackwell

William David Blackwell, 67, of Gulfport, Miss died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003 in Gulfport. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Radney's Funeral Home in Alexander City.

Leon Railey

Dec. 22, 2003

Funeral services for the Rev. Leon Railey, 85, of Alexander City will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at First United Methodist Church in Alexander City. Burial will follow at Hillview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003.

Rev. Railey died Dec. 22, 2003, at his residence.

The family will accept flowers or contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at First United Methodist Church.
