ELIZABETH SWEAT TATUM

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Elizabeth Sweat Tatum, 82, will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bill Gandy officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Tatum died July 11 at Talladega Health Care Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega, was a 1938 graduate of Talladega High School and was retired from Michael Supply Company. She was a docent for Heritage Hall Museum and was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Merrell Sweat and A.W. Sweat and wife Burt; and a brother-in-law, Joseph W. Upchurch.

She is survived by one daughter, Fran Tatum Wiginton and husband Dan Wiginton of Talladega; three grandsons, Keith Little and wife Robyn Little of Auburn, Eric Wiginton of Talladega and Wes Wiginton and wife Jeannie Wiginton of Columbus, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Anna Claire Little and Austin Wiginton; niece, Mary Beth Upchurch Thompson of Talladega; sister, Frances Sweat Upchurch of Talladega; sister-in-law, Barbara Sweat of Talladega; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 until 8 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Keith Little, Eric Wiginton, Wes Wiginton, Hubert Wiginton, Richard Sweat and Cecil Parks.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

MARY PATRICIA CHRISTOPHERSON

LINEVILLE — Memorial service for Mary Patricia Christopherson, 84, will be held at a later date at St. Joseph's Church in Peru, Ill. Burial will be in Sheridan Cemetery in Sheridan, Ill.

Mrs. Christopherson died July 10 at Clay County Hospital. She was a native of Greenwich, Conn., was a former resident of Chicago, Ill., and had lived most of her life in Peru, Ill. She had lived in Alabama since 1994. She was a school teacher with the Spring Valley Public School System. She received two masters degrees, one from the University of Illinois in Spring Valley, Ill., and one from Valporaiso University in Valporaiso, Ind. She was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Karin Christopherson of Lineville; one son, Chris Christopherson of Oak Park, Ill.; two sisters, Helen Olsen and Muriel Seraso of Greenwich, Conn.; and one granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Randolph County High School Math Department or a favorite charity.

Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville will direct the service.

CHARLES WILLIAM DUNCAN

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Charles William Duncan, 68, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel with the Rev. Harold Peters officiating. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. in Ft. Mitchell Cemetery in Seale.

Mr. Duncan died July 9 at the VA Hospital in Birmingham.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice Marie Duncan of Sylacauga; one son, Charles W. Duncan Jr. of Newberg, Ore.; two daughters, Patricia Marie Baker of Las Vegas, Nev., and Teresa Darlene Dycus of Reynolds, Ga.; his mother, Sarah A. Duncan of Sylacauga; two brothers, James C. Duncan of Sylacauga and Donald W. Duncan of Sycamore; three sisters, Merita Robinson of Sylacauga, Louise Wood of Pensacola, Fla., and Ora Mae Faucett of Cumberland, Tenn.; and one granddaughter, Amanda Faith Duncan of Newberg, Ore.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home will direct the service.

TAMMY LYNN FERGUSON

TALLADEGA — Tammy Lynn Ferguson, 24, died July 11 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home.

MAE HURST FREEMAN

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Mae Hurst Freeman, 93, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Glis Cribb, the Rev. Roger Young and the Rev. Pat Hurst officiating. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. in Manning's Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery in Lineville.

Mrs. Freeman died July 10 at Citizens BMC. She was a native of Clay County, had lived in Talladega most of her life and was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burrell Freeman, and a daughter, Peggy Jean Caldwell.

She is survived by one daughter, Naomi Herd of Talladega; three sons, C.B. Freeman of Talladega, Lynn Freeman of Evans, Wash., and Billy Joe Freeman of Talladega; 27 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, 44 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 until 2 p.m. at Manning's Chapel Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

LANCASTER HARRELL

ALEXANDER CITY — Lancaster Harrell died July 10 at Russell Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Armour's Memorial Funeral Home.

LORA BELL KING

KELLYTON — Funeral service for Lora Bell King, 96, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Kellyton Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Strong officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. King died July 9 at her residence.

She is survived by one granddaughter, one grandson, five great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and a host of other relatives.

Wright's Funeral Home will direct the service.

MONNIE LEE MEADS

TALLADEGA — Monnie Lee Meads died July 11 at Talladega Health Care Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home.

DAVID N. RICE

PELL CITY — David N. Rice, 70, died July 10. He was born Jan. 14, 1932, in Hart, Mich. He lived in the Muskegon, Mich., area for 69 years and had lived in Pell City for the past year and a half.

On July 30, 1963, he married Mary Beede, also of Muskegon. He worked for 18 years as a machinist at Michigan Spring and later worked for eight years as a mobile home park manager. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a Pony League coach for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Newell and Hazel Rice; and a nephew, Johnny Davenport. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He fought pain and sickness for many years but his love for the Lord and his family brought him peace.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Rice; five daughters, Terri Robins of Fullerton, Calif., Shelby Lebaron of Muskegon, Mich., Kittie Fessenden of Modesto, Calif., Penny Franklin of Vail, Ariz., and Kelly Groover of Pell City; one son, David Rice of Fremont, Mich.; two sisters, Joyce Davenport of Dallas, Texas, and Nancy Kimball of Muskegon, Mich.; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and six nieces.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

DEWIE CALDWELL SIMMONS

CHILDERSBURG — Funeral service for Dewie Caldwell Simmons, 81, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Childersburg with the Rev. Mahlon Felkins and the Rev. John Verciglio officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Talladega.

Mrs. Simmons died July 10 at Coosa Valley BMC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Jefferson Simmons, and was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, John Simmons and wife Janine of Opelika; two daughters, Connie Zanotti of Childersburg and Jackie Simmons of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Louise Pope of Birmingham; and six grandchildren, Jennifer Zanotti of Birmingham, Jeff Zanotti of Childersburg, Jackson Botti of Atlanta, Ga., Paul Simmons II of Auburn, Jeremy Simmons of Auburn and Jordon Simmons of Auburn.

Pallbearers will be Wallace Shoemaker, Dave Beck, Jeff Zanotti, Cliett Hudson, Paul Simmons II and Jeremy Simmons.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.

HATTIE JORDAN

LINEVILLE — Funeral service for Hattie Jordan, 85, of Cragford, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Clay County Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Zenus Windsor and the Rev. Richie Farrow officiating. Burial will be in Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Jordan died Aug. 2 at Clay County Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Clay County, she was retired from Higgins Manufacturing Company, where she had been employed for more than 25 years. She was also a homemaker and member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Jordan, a grandson, David Jordan, and a great-grandson, Dustin Jordan.

She is survived by one daughter, Zeith Elliott of Ashland; one son, Charles M. Jordan of Ashland; one sister, Mary Cotney of Alexander City; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Buster Robertson, Jack Brand, Bud Jordan, Keith Jordan, Emil Jordan, Jamie Walker and Toby Jordan.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Clay County Funeral Home will direct the service.

DELENE BLACKMON PATTERSON

SYLACAUGA — Delene Blackmon Patterson, 86, of Sylacauga, died Aug. 2 at Sylacauga Health Care Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Curtis and Son Funeral Home, North Chapel.
