Inez Pilgrim Shaw

MONTGOMERY — Mrs. Inez Pilgrim Shaw, age 96, a resident of Montgomery, Ala., died on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at her residence. Funeral services were held Monday, August 9th at 2 p.m. at Gassett Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplain Larry Layne officiated. Burial followed in Shepard Cemetery. Gassett Funeral Home of Wetumpka directed the services.

Mrs. Shaw is survived by two daughters, Linda Jackson and husband, Jack, of Washington, N.C., and Gloria Foster and her husband, Rufus, of Montgomery; one sister, Bessie Stevens of Montgomery; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers were Jeff Abrams, Joey Blackmon, Henry Jackson, Michael Jackson, Douglass Kamm, and Reese Kamm.

George Houston Smith

ALEXANDER CITY — Graveside services for Mr. George Houston Smith, age 82, of Alexander City, Ala. were held Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Eclectic. The Rev. Jack Womack officiated.

Mr. Smith died on Sunday, August 8th at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika after a long illness. He was born on May 3, 1922 in Elmore County to William Thomas (W.T.) Smith and Rosa Ola Langley Smith. He graduated from Auburn University and was an avid football fan. He was employed by the Federal Government as a Civil Engineer with water ways until his retirement. Mr. Smith was a resident of Bill Nichols Veterans Home for the past six years. He was a U. S. Army Veteran, having served in WWII.

He is survived by his sisters, Ruby Thrower of Sylacauga and Doris R. Black of Daviston; three nieces; and eight nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Howard Smith, Henry Herman Smith, John Amos Smith, Wilson Truman Smith, and William Lester Smith; and three sisters, Mattieliene York, Edna Church, and Mildred Inez Martin.

Louise C. Hammonds

Mrs. Louise C. Hammonds, a resident of Tallassee, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at the age of 89.

Funeral services were Friday, August 13, at 10 a.m. from East Tallassee Church of Christ with Minister Mike McElroy officiating. Burial followed in Macedonia Christian Church Cemetery, Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing.

The family received friends Thursday, August 12, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at East Tallassee Church of Christ.

Surviving relatives include her son, Michael Hammonds (Katherine); daughters, Rachel Hammonds and Lisa Cross (Robert); three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hammonds is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Hammonds. She was a lifelong resident of Tallapoosa County and a long-time Auburn fan.

MRS. NELLIE RUTH HALE
Birth date: August 22, 1927
Death date: July 23, 2010
Mrs. Nellie “ Ruth” Burt Hale, born August 22, 1927, died at the age of 82 on Friday, July 23, 2010, at Community Hospital in Tallassee after a brief illness. Funeral services will be Sunday, July 25, 2010, at 2:00pm from Jeffcoat Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Derek Gentle and Dr. David Bentley officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 25, 2010, from 1:00pm until funeral time at Jeffcoat Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include her husband of 60 years, Mr. Ralph Edwin “Pete” Hale; son, Donald Edwin Hale (Ethel); grandson, Tyler Hale (Christy); granddaughter, Emily Taylor (Jeff); grandson, William Hale (Lori); six great grandchildren; brother, Floyd Eugene Burt; sisters-in-law, Frances Burt and Isabell Burt; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold and Anne Hale, Jerry and Patsy Hale and a large number of nieces and nephews.
Ruth, as she was most commonly known, is preceded in death by her parents, William Robert Burt and Sarah Mason Burt; sister, Flora Burt Butler; and brothers, William Edgar Burt, Charlie Thomas Burt, Holman Burt, Robert Earl Burt, Tenneson Burt and Ferrell Lee Burt.
Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. While she was always frugal in her lifestyle, she made sure that her family was always taken care of. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tallassee, Alabama.

MRS.BEVERLY PHILLIPS KNIGHTEN

Mrs. Beverly P. Knighten, a resident of Tallassee, Alabama, passed away Friday, July 23, 2010, in Birmingham, Alabama, at the age of 55.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 26, 2010, at 11:00am from Jeffcoat Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Mike McElroy officiating. Burial will follow in Goodhope Cemetery, Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Mr. Sidney Knighten; mother, Mrs. Louise Phillips; daughter, Julie Maynard (Brian); grandchildren, Jade and Dawson Bozeman, Caitlin and Dalton Barnett and Gabe and Landon Maynard; step daughters, Amy Barnett (Mike) and Amber Knighten; sisters, Jackie Henderson (Wayne) and Betty Weldon (Jimmy); brother, Bobby Phillips (Jackie); nieces, Carrie Lucas (Jonny) and Brittany Gardner and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim Knighten (Becky), David Knighten (Barbara), Bonnie Stuckey (Tommy) and Herman Griffin.
Mrs. Knighten is preceded in death by her sons, Ronnie Duck and Randy Duck; father, Mr. Robert Phillips; sister, Denise Mote; sister-in-law, Joy Griffin and mother-in-law, Minnie Lee.

MR. JOHN MICHAEL YOUNG
Birth date: March 23, 1976
Death date: July 20, 2010
Mr. Michael Young, a resident of San Antonio, Texas, and formerly of Eclectic, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at the age of 34. Memorial services will be Saturday, July 24, 2010, at 6:00pm from Jeffcoat Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chad Middlebrooks officiating.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 24, 2010, from 5:00pm until service time at Jeffcoat Funeral Home.
Mr. Young is survived by his mother, Mrs. Anita L. Young; brothers, Ricky Young and Wade Young (Mona); nephews and niece, Slade Young, Josh Lock and Julie Lock.
He is preceded in death by his father, Mr. Richard E. Young, Sr.
He also was a graduate of Elmore County High School, Eclectic, Alabama.

MR. HENRY MCCLAIN, JR.

Mr. Henry McClain, Jr., a resident of Tallassee, Alabama, passed a
way Saturday, July 17, 2010, at the age of 58.
Mr. McClain was a faithful employee of Charles Hilyer’s Auto Parts in Tallassee, Alabama for 27 years.
Memorial Services will be Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 2:00pm from Charles Hilyer’s Auto Parts in Tallassee, Alabama, Mr. Charles Blalock officiating, Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing.

MR. JAMES HERMAN TIMMERMAN, SR.

Death date: July 15, 2010
Mr. James Herman Timmerman, Sr., a lifelong resident of Tallassee, Alabama, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010, at the age of 86. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 17, 2010, at 10:00am from Jeffcoat Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Billingsley officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing.
Surviving relatives include his daughters, Nan Nabors (Tom) and Karen Cunningham; sons, Timm Timmerman (Tammy) and Jay Thomas Timmerman (Jan); sister, Mrs. Fran Hill of Tampa, Florida; 6 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren and Devoted Friend, Barbara Plant.
Mr. Timmerman is preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Neva Jo Wilkerson Timmerman; parents, Jesse Herman and Berta S. Timmerman and sisters, Margie Woodall and Verna Norred.
Visitation will be Friday, July 16, 2010, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Jeffcoat Funeral Home.
Early in Mr. Timmerman’s career, he was a rural mail carrier and a factory
representative for Sherwin-Williams Paint Company. Later he owned and managed Central Paints in East Tallassee, Alabama, from 1964 until 1988.
He was a member of the VFW-American Legion, Tallassee Chamber of Commerce and a charter member of Tallassee Lions Club and Tallassee Jaycees.
Mr. Timmerman was very active in the Boy Scouts and Babe Ruth Baseball.
He was a Veteran of World War II and an active member of
Riverside Heights Baptist Church, Tallassee, Alabama.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society,
Riverside Heights Baptist Church or Children’s Harbor.

MR. RAYMOND VIRGIL WATWOOD

Death date: July 12, 2010
Mr. Raymond V. Watwood, a resident of Eclectic, Alabama, passed away Monday, July 12, 2010, at the age of 90. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at 11:00am from Claud Independent Methodist Church with Rev. Michael B. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Good Hope Cemetery, Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing.
Surviving relatives include his daughters, Linda Ruth Watwood and Beverly Annette Watwood (Dwight); brother, Lewis Watwood (Nell); grand-daughters, Tasha Lynn Rene Moyers (Buddy), Haley Marian Deal and Savannah Ruth Watkins; great grandchildren, Canyon Isaiah Moyers, Hope Faith Moyers and Harmony Joy Moyers.
Mr. Watwood is preceded in death by his daughter, Stacey Ramon Watwood and grandchild, Rachael Luckie; brother, Burt Watwood (Betty) and sister, Nancy Watwood Tucker (Adolf).
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 13, 2010, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Jeffcoat Funeral Home.
