Clarence Willis Varner

Mr. Clarence Willis Varner, 92, passed away at his residence in Wetumpka on Monday, Jan. 30, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 1 at New Home Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Stapleton and the Rev. Eric Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in New Home Cemetery with Gassett Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Varner was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and a lifelong Elmore County farmer.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dean Varner; son, Philip (Lynn) Varner; daughter, Ann (Sam) Burkett; brother, Morris Varner; sister Myra Daughty; grandchildren, Stanley Bobo, Scott (Valerie) Bobo, Travis (Jennifer) Varner, and Brandy Arnold; great grandchildren, Brittanne, Lottie, and Scotlyn Bobo, and Samantha and Gabe Arnold.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jones and Rilla Varner; brothers, Raymond and Cecil Varner, and sisters, Jessie Mae McCord, Clara Nell Gibson, Bettye Joyce Culpepper and Velma Mullins.

Pallbearers will be Travis Varner, Bob Geddie, Dennis Collum, Mike Bowdoin, George “Sonny” Varner and Leon McCord.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his caregivers, Mike Bowdoin, Lois Hamilton, Donna Mitchell, Erma Smith, Karen Williams and the staff of Vista Care Hospice and a special thanks to Dr. Spencer Coleman, Elaine Henderson, and the entire staff of Dr. Coleman.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Feb. 1 at New Home Church.

Guy Garnett

Mr. Guy Garnett, a resident of Tallassee, Ala., passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at the age of 88.

Funeral services were Sunday, Oct. 9, at 3 p.m. from Tallaweka Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Smith and Rev. Tim Davis officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery, Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Garnett is survived by his sons, Danny Garnett (Debra) and Rick Garnett (Barbara); five grandchildren, Brittney Garnett, Laurie Knowles (Steve), Melissa Shouse (Danny), Symantha Murphy and Darren Murphy; seven great grandchildren, Shane, Brooke, Austin, Alayna, Devin, Sophia and Hannah; three brothers, Roy Garnett, Dwight Garnett (Barbara) and Lynwood Garnett (Patsy) and sister, Reba Walls.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Frances Garnett; brother, Lamar Garnett and sister, Beatrice McQueen.

Mr. Garnett served in WWII and was employed with Skinners / Home Furniture Store for over 30 years.

The family received friends on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Jeffcoat Funeral Home.

James Monroe Dennis Sr.

James Monroe Dennis Sr., 67, a resident of Wetumpka, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2012.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 6, at the Davis Annex Cemetery with the Rev. Shane Russell and Sabrina Woodall officiating and Ellison Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two sons, James Monroe Dennis Jr., William “Billy” Dennis, both of Wetumpka; one daughter Tonya (Craig) Mentenbrik of Birmingham; three brothers Wayne (Loretta) Hope of Tuscaloosa, Ed (Marsha) Peppers, Mike (Debra) Peppers, both of Wetumpka; three sisters Carolyn (Malcom) Warren of Prattville, Nelda (Joe Parrish) of Deatsville and Ruby Dennis; five grandchildren, five nephews, eight nieces, 14 great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Oct. 5 at Ellison Funeral Home.

Doris Opal Edwards Parker

WETUMPKA — Doris Opal Edwards Parker, 82, a resident of Wetumpka passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 11 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Vaughn Gardner and the Rev. Johnny Fox officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Ellison Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Parker is survived by three daughters Marquita Ann Parker Shepard of Wetumpka, Janet Marie Parker of Wetumpka, Debbie P. Morrison of Wetumpka; two brothers Winston Edwards of Destin, Fla., Charles Edwards of Wetumpka; one sister Lois Deerfield of Destin, Fla., six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy L. Parker.

Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Nov. 11 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Sara G. Hayes

Mrs. Sara G. Hayes, a resident of Eclectic, passed away Monday, May 7, 2012, at the age of 59.

Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. May 11 at Faith Baptist Church in Wetumpka with the Rev. Gerald Wood officiating and Jeffcoat Funeral Home of Tallassee directing.

Mrs. Hayes is survived by her husband, Mr. Paul Hayes; sons, David Daniels, John Daniels (Robin), Michael C. Daniels, L. Michael Hayes, Randy Coleman (Nancy), Jay Cee Daniels, Donald D. Daniels (Stephanie) and Benjamin Daniels; daughter, Jennifer Hayes (John); 22 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; brothers, Johnny Parker (Linda) and Terry Parker (Linda); sisters, Debra Parker and Sue Ann Zeigler and several nieces and nephews.

Frank B. Rutledge Jr.

Long time Demopolis resident and business man Frank B. Rutledge Jr., 94, died May 12, 2012.

A pharmacist who, with his father, Frank B. Rutledge Sr. and brother, Fred Rutledge were owners of F.B. Rutledge & Sons Drugs and F & F Drugs for many years.

He was born in Columbus, Ga., the son of the late Frank B. Rutledge, Sr. and the late Daisy Kirn Rutledge. He was a graduate of Demopolis High School and Auburn University.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945 and was the Commander of the LST 487 in the Pacific.

He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, serving as senior warden several times, was president of the Demopolis Rotary Club and also served as a member of the Demopolis City Council.

He was an avid golfer and a lifetime booster of Auburn University.

He is survived by his wife, Eloise, (Toni) W. Rutledge, a son, Frank (Rut) B. Rutledge III (Jo) of Tuscaloosa, a daughter, Robin Rogers (Steve) of Lake Jordan, five grandchildren, Stephen Matthew Rogers (Erin), Frank Pearson Rogers (Elisha) and Dashiell Rogers Miller (Norman) of Deatsville, Joseph Austin Macon and John Hinton Macon (Sarah) of Birmingham, seven great grandchildren and a brother, John Fredrick Rutledge (Mary).

There will be a memorial service at 5 p.m. May 19 at Trinity Episcopal Church on North Main Street in Demopolis.

The family will receive friends in the parish hall from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. A private burial service will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Gallion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 560, Demopolis, AL 36732; Auburn University, 317 S. College Street, Auburn, AL 36849 or to the charity of your choice.

Lillie Mae Sullivan Turner

MARBURY — Lillie Mae Sullivan Turner, 81, a resident of Marbury, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Nov. 11 at Ellison Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerald Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Lebanon Cemetery with Ellison Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one son Jordan Duke Jr. of Wetumpka; four daughters, Regina Carol Canterbury of Montgomery, Cynthia Mann of Wetumpka, Samantha Darlene Myers of Eclectic, Charlotte Lorraine Absher of Marbury, 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her son Carl Milton Duke and daughter Barbara Elaine Duke.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 10 at Ellison Funeral Home.
