Mary Elizabeth Parrish

ELMORE — Mary Elizabeth Parrish passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at Merrywood Lodge Care and Rehab Center in Elmore.

Ms. Parrish was born April 18, 1922.

She is survived by her sister, Evelyn P. Lewis of St. Petersburg, Fla.; nephews, Jimmy Parrish of Birmingham, David Parrish of Montgomery, Gregory Lewis of St. Petersburg, Fla.; nieces, Kathryn Massey of Boise, Idaho, Rebecca Hamm of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sister-in-law, Louise Parrish.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 19 at Gassett Funeral Home Chapel with Dennis Kinnan, Daniel Farris, and Slade Blend officiating. Burial will follow in Wetumpka City Cemetery with Gassett Funeral Home of Wetumpka directing.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Nov. 19 at Gassett Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request any contributions be made to Southern Care Hospice, 7067 Sydney Curve, Montgomery, AL 36117.

Mildred Louise Coplin Trotter

Mildred Louise Coplin Trotter was born in Pennsylvania in 1921 and was one of three children to Blair and Helen Coplin, all preceded her in death.

From age two she was reared by guardian parents, Herbert and Della McCreary.

She married Lt. Col. Lewis Trotter Jr. in 1948 and has called Wetumpka and Trotter’s Trail home for 60 years.

She was a member of the International Typographical Printers Union. She retired from the printing trade after more than 30 years.

She was a charter member of the following: Colonial Social Club, Elmore County Historical Society, Elmore County Art Guild, and Quail Walk Country Club.

She was a faithful certified poll worker since 1971, one of the first women to have served on an Elmore County grand jury in 1981; a member of the pink lady hospital auxiliary at Elmore Community Hospital.

She wrote a byline column for The Wetumpka Herald after retirement. She never considered herself a writer or an artist.

She never took her hobbies too seriously. They were music, painting, golf, love of animals, and nature.

Among her many blessings were her close neighbors, her friends: Jean and Charles Edwards, Sarah and Bill Dunn, Lynne and Bob Sutton, Shirley and Don Brannon, Wyleen Suttton, Cindy McGee, and her church. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, especially enjoying the members of Karen Reneau’s Bible study.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to First United Methodist Church, 306 West Tuskeena Street, Wetumpka, AL 36092.

Visitation will be from 2-2:45 p.m. Aug. 23 at Gassett Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Aug. 23 at Pine View Memorial Gardens with Gassett Funeral Home directing.

Norman Thomas Whitfield

Mr. Norman Thomas “Tommy” Whitfield, 62, a resident of Deatsville, passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2012.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Coosa River Cemetery with the Rev. Gerald Wood officiating and Ellison Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Whitfield is survived by his wife Barbara Jean Whitfield of Deatsville; sons, Attius (Renee’) Clakeley of Deatsville, Dean (Stephanis) Clakeley of Mandeville , La., and Jason (Shone) Whitfield of Deatsville; brothers Russell (Joanne) Whitfield of Montgomery, Wayne Whitfield and Charles Whitfield both of Alabaster, 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Visitation was held 6-8 p.m. Dec. 3 at Ellison Funeral Home.

Robert Perry Burke

WETUMPKA — Robert Perry (Bobby) Burke, 88, a resident of Wetumpka, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, July 31, 2011.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 3 at New Life Baptist Church in Equality with the Rev. Charles Chamblee, the Rev. Gerald Wood and the Rev Wesley Hay officiating. Internment will follow with military honors in Equality United Methodist Church Cemetery with Ellison Funeral Home directing.

Survivors are five sons, Buddy (Glenda) Burke, Douglas O. (Betty) Burke, Donald P. (BobbieSue) Burke, Ronald C. (Peggy) Burke, Tommy (Ann) Burke; one daughter, Deborah A. (Rodger) Davis; sister-in-law Mary O. Burke; 21 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Burke was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Anna Mae Burke; daughter Linda R. Holland; son-in-law Terry Holland; granddaughter Shannon Renee Holland and brother Emory Burke.

Active pallbearers will be Rory Burke, Lee Burke, Brian Davis, David (Bubba) Burke, Jason Burke, Josh Burke, Rod Davis, Travis Burke, Anthony Moe and Brandon Hall.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Aug. 3 at New Life Baptist Church in Equality.

Mr. Burke was a loving and Godly father and was saved by grace.

He was a Prisoner of War while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Lizzie Mae Mezick

Mrs. Lizzie Mae Mezick, 89, a resident of Wetumpka, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, in a Talladega hospital.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Dec. 1 at Gassett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Pine View Memorial Gardens with Gassett Funeral Home directing.

She is survived by her three children, Joyce Mezick (J.R.) Aughtman, Jean Mezick (Cleveland) Swicord, and David Mezick; a sister Lenita Landers; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ken Edwards, Steve Swicord, Scott Swicord, Travis Midkiff, Chad Oates and Drew Kuehner.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Dec. 1 prior to services on Saturday.

Johnny S. Harvey Sr.

WETUMPKA — Johnny S. Harvey Sr., 67, a resident of Wetumpka, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 8 at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Bob Henderson and the Rev. Ben Alford officiating with interment to follow in Pine View Memorial Gardens with Gassett Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn Banta Harvey; son, Johnny S. Harvey Jr.; three daughters, Anita Harvey, Melina Leigh Harvey Turner, Michelle Harvey; two sisters, Dorothy Phenolia Blankenship and Laverna Ramsey and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Leo William Blankenship, Tom Jones, Brett Dylan Rodgers, Brett Alan Rodgers, Mark Woodruff, Trey Martin and James S. Martin Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be Leo Milliard Blankenship, Randy R. Turner, Austin L. Turner, Clint Martin, and Jimmy D. Rodgers.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Nov. 7 at Trinity Episcopal Church.
