Walter Turner

Walter Turner, 75, a native of Deer Park and a resident of Citronelle, died Nov. 5, 2006 at Citronelle Convalescent Center in Citronelle. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Deer Park.

Survivors include two sons, Walter Lee (Jennifer) Graham of Wiggins, Miss. and Eugene Turner of Mobile; two daughters, Lesa Sawyer and Aretha Gaston, both of Mobile; brother, Curtis Turner of Deer Park; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be Friday, Nov. 10, 11 a.m. at New Light Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Arthur Taylor Sr., pastor and eulogist. Viewing will be on Friday from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military rites and Andrews Funeral Home directing.

Rev. Robert Charles Calhoun

The Rev. Robert Charles Calhoun died Oct. 31, 2006 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital at the age of 70. A native of Perdue Hill, he was a member of Orange Hill Baptist Church in Grove Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Etta Sanders Calhoun and Earnest Calhoun Sr.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Hollins of Grove Hill and brother, Earnest Calhoun Jr. of Mobile.

The funeral service was Nov. 4 at Orange Hill Baptist Church in Grove Hill with the Rev. James Barron, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery with Andrews Funeral Home directing.

Thelma McKenzie Coleman

Thelma McKenzie Coleman, 63, died Nov. 1, 2006 at Springhill Memorial Hospital in Mobile. She was a member of the Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson.

Survivors include six daughters, Elizabeth Coleman, Arlene F. Coleman, Shannie M. Coleman, Cynthia S. Jackson, Danita G. McConico and Renita K. Davis, all of Jackson; five sons, Don D. Coleman, the Rev. Barry Coleman, the Rev. Willie Coleman, Kendrick L. James and Robert L. Calhoun III, all of Jackson; two sisters, Arlene Smith and Lillie James, both of Jackson; three brothers, Mance M. McKenzie, Dave McKenzie and Willie McKenzie, all of Jackson; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was Nov. 4 at Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Jackson with Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directing.

Flora Mae Smith Andrews

Flora Mae Smith Andrews, a homemaker, died Nov. 11, 2006 in Evergreen. She was 95. A native of Conecuh County, she was a resident of Evergreen.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis Smith of Boston, Mass., Franklin Smith of Brewton and James Smith of Selma; daughter, Mildred McMillan of Jackson; 14 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was Nov. 14 at Cope Funeral Home in Evergreen. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery in Evergreen.

Christopher Kevin Gates

Christopher Kevin Gates, 41, of New Orleans, La. died Oct. 31, 2006 at his residence. He was born Sept. 22, 1965 in Mobile and lived in Saraland for 20 years. He worked in the French Quarter of Bywater and Marigny for 18 years. He loved all types of music.

Survivors include his parents, William Jenkins and Orinell (Tucker) Gates of Jackson; two brothers, Marcus Brent Gates of Butler and Derek Gates of Jackson.

A memorial service will be Sunday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. William Allison officiating at Mt.Gilead Baptist Church located on the Walker Springs Road. Lamana-Panno-Fallo Funeral Home of Metairie, La. directed.

Janice Marie Crayton Rivers The funeral service for Janice Marie Crayton Rivers is Thursday, Nov. 16, (today) 1 p.m. at Pine Chapel No. 1 Baptist Church in Grove Hill. Visitation is two hours prior to the funeral hour. Interment is in the church cemetery with Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directing.

Rivers, 46, a native of Grove Hill and resident of Manila, died Nov. 9, 2006 at her residence. A member of Pine Chapel No. 1 Baptist Church and the choir, she was a graduate of the Class of 1978 at Clarke County High School.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Rivers of Manila; three daughters, Tabitha Hunt and Lakeshia Crayton, both of Alma and Ramona Love of Manila; three sisters, JoAnn Pugh and Vera Chapman, both of Grove Hill and Debra Caldwell of Detroit, Mich.; five brothers, Neal Washington of Grove Hill, Melvin Washington of Detroit, Fred Hawkins of Cleveland, Miss., Clinton Hawkins of Gosport and John Crayton of Texas and seven grandchildren.

Mary Angela Watts

Mary Angela Watts, 51, a resident of Elberta, died Nov. 6, 2006 at a local health care facility.

She is survived by a husband, John Watts of Elberta; two daughters, Tiffani (Grant) Dunagan of Leroy and Madeline Grace Watts of Orange Beach; two sons, Cal Reeves of Foley and Blake (Tessa) Reeves of Jackson; three grandchildren, Mary Alice, Hannah and Tanner; her parents, Rita and Tony Barkhaus of Owensboro, Ky., mother-in-law, Emma Watts of Mobile; sister, Resa (Chris) Bash of Owensboro; two brothers, Journy (Stacey) Barkhaus and Lee Barkhaus, both of Evansville, Ind.; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A memorial service was conducted on Nov. 9 in the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Foley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Levese B. Brown

Levese B. Brown, 88, a native of Meridian, Miss. and a resident of Fruitdale, died Nov. 9, 2006 at Wayne General Hospital in Waynesboro, Miss. A homemaker, she was a member of Miracle Revival Fellowship Holiness Church. She is survived by one sister, Dece Dearmon of Fruitdale.

The funeral service was Nov. 11 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom with the Rev. Carrie Smith officiating. Interment was in the Grace-Williams Cemetery in Fruitdale.

Robert Roy Dalhaus

Robert Roy Dalhaus, 76, a native of Pasadena, Texas and a resident of Jackson, died Nov. 10, 2006 at his residence. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Dalhaus of Jackson; three sons, Roderick Dalhaus, Michael Dalhaus and Bobby Dalhaus, all of Reno, Nev.; stepson, Marshall Walker of Jackson; four daughters, Rosa Sanders of South Carolina, Susan Hamel of Reno, Kathy Patrick of Jackson and Rhonda Coffey of Theodore; stepdaughter, Tonya Baugh of Whatley; sister, Audrey Skarness of Texas and 11 grandchildren.

The funeral service was at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Walker Springs Nov. 13. Burial was in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directing.

Ben Franklin Griffin Sr.

Ben Franklin Griffin Sr., 81, a retired captain of the Alabama State Conservation Department, died Nov. 4, 2006 at a health care facility in Baldwin County. A native of Gross, Miss. and a resident of Jackson, he was a member of the Jones Chapel Methodist Church in Perry's Chapel. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp and served during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Betty M. Griffin of Jackson; son, Ben F. "Benji" Griffin Jr. of Gulf Shores; two daughters, Kay Williamson of New Orleans, La. and Jan Griffin of Jackson; two sisters, Marquerite Holly and Frances Griffin, both of Midfield; three grandchildren, Makaygan Griffin of Jackson, Dusty Williamson of New Orleans and Brandon Williamson of Tuscaloosa.

The funeral service was Nov. 7 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial was in the Perry's Chapel Cemetery.

Charles Noble Grimes

Charles Noble Grimes, a resident of Bigbee and a member of Three Forks Baptist Church, died Nov. 14, 2006 at his home at the age of 76. He was a retired pipefitter with Olin Chemical and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include two sons, Charles A. Grimes of Millry and Terry N. Grimes of Laton Hill; daughter, Pam G. Thornton of State Line, Miss.; sister, Mildred G. Carpenter of Millry; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann B. Grimes, parents, Poley and Tommie R. Grimes, a brother, Paul Grimes and two sisters, Janie Savage and Cecil Simon.

The funeral service was Nov. 16 at Three Forks Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Dean officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom directing.

Pallbearers were Tim Savage, Steven Grimes, Wendell Sullivan, Danny Grimes, Dewayne Baxter, Jacob Grimes, Coy Carpenter and Mark Guy.

Honorary pallbearers were Bud Grimes, Calvin Savage, Anthony McIlwain and Todd Olson.
