Mary Alice Skipper
Mary Alice Skipper, 84, a native of Walker Springs and a resident of Jackson, died Aug. 4, 2006 at a local health care facility. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Jackson.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Rowland of Mobile; four brothers, Alfred Bayles and Marvin Bayles, both of Mobile, Willard Bayles of Jackson and Jimmy Bayles of Monroeville; sister, Bernice Hicks of Grove Hill and three grandchildren.
The funeral service was Aug. 5 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. Interment was in Trinity Memorial Gardens.
Georgia Skipworth
Georgia Skipworth, a native of Grove Hill and a resident of Saraland, died at a local health care facility at the age of 91. She was a member of Magnolia Assembly of God Church in Grove Hill. She retired from Vanity Fair as a machine operator after 30 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fannie and Henry West, husband, Howard Skipworth, four sisters, Lucy Schultz, Bertha Dee Weaver, Lizzie O'Gwyn and Annie Pearl Tuberville, and brother, Douglas West.
Survivors include three children, Delouise (Thomas) Tucker, Charles (Joann) Skipworth, both of Saraland and Howard (Bonnie) Skipworth of Joelton, Tenn.; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Thursday (today), Aug. 10, 12 noon in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill. The family will receive friends and family at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m. prior to service. Interment will be in Magnolia Lawn Cemetery.
Blondia Mae Chapman
Blondia Mae Chapman, 71, a native and resident of the Winn community of Jackson, died Aug. 4, 2006 at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church No. 2 in Grove Hill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearlie Chapman and Ollie Mae Martin Chapman, sister, Carrie Pugh and brother, Lawrence Chapman Sr.
Survivors include a brother, the Rev. Vayton (Shirley J.) Chapman of Coffeeville and a sister, Lillian Chapman of the Winn community of Jackson.
The funeral service will be Thursday (today), Aug. 10, 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church No. 2 in Grove Hill with the Rev. Cory J. Pruitt officiating. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until the service hour. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Andrews Funeral Home directing.
Mack Lavaughn Baugh
Mack Lavaughn Baugh, a retired industrial electrical superintendent at Scotch Lumber Company, died Aug. 1, 2006 at Southwest Alabama Medical Center in Thomasville at the age of 75. A native of the Bassett Creek community, he was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Thomasville.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtis Baugh of Thomasville; son, Lynn L. (Mae Lynn) Baugh of Thomasville; daughter, Grace Baugh Martin of Fulton; two grandchildren, Felissa Baugh Boutwell of Jackson and Lee Baugh of Saraland; two great-grandchildren, Lindsey Boutwell and Mallory Boutwell, both of Jackson.
The funeral service was Aug. 4 at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville with the Rev. Bill Faircloth officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Thomasville.
Pallbearers were Gerald Newton, Jody Daniels, Jerry Gates, Fritz Bates, LaDon Harvell and Lamar Ruthledge.
Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Liberty Baptist Church.
Lee Edward English
Lee Edward English, 64, a resident of Jackson, died Aug. 2, 2006 at his home. He was a retired construction worker.
He is survived by his wife, Mary English of Jackson; two daughters, Melody Hughes of Zimco and Latell Ezell of Jackson; son, Edward B. English of Jackson; four sisters, Elizabeth Wofford of Gadsden, Gladys Smith and Penny Smith, both of Atlanta, Ga. and Oneitha White of Summerville, Ga.; two brothers, James Davis of Mobile and Anthony Robinson of Gadsden and 10 grandchildren.
The funeral service was Aug. 7 in the chapel of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home. Interment was in the Mt. Olive No. 1 Baptist Church Cemetery
in Rockville.
Faith
Lyman Edward Faith, a retired millwright with Olin Corporation, died Aug. 13, 2006 at his residence at the age of 84. Anative and lifelong resident of St. Stephens, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and a member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Lois Faith of St. Stephens; two sons, Larry Faith of St. Stephens and Lyman A. Faith of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter, Edwina Bell of Jackson; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was Aug. 16 at St. Stephens United Methodist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Smith
Nealie Mae Smith, 70, a native of Clarke County and a resident of Saraland, died Aug. 9, 2006 at Eight Mile Nursing Facility. She was a member of the West Bend Baptist Church in the West Bend community of Coffeeville.
Survivors include six sons, Ronnie Smith and Jimmy Harold Smith, both of Satsuma, Howard Bruce Smith of Magnolia, Texas, Michael Darren Smith of Axis, Kenny O'Neal Smith of Georgetown and Larry Randall Smith of Mobile; four brothers, Jimmy Pritchett of Jacksonville, Ark., Raymond Pritchett of Tennessee, Willie J. Pritchett of Mississippi and Charles Pritchett of Jackson; two sisters, Ruth Stringer and Ruby Dean McHaney, both of Jackson; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was Saturday, Aug. 12 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with the Rev. Mike Maloy officiating. Interment was in the West Bend Cemetery
in the West Bend community of Coffeeville.
Stuckey
Marjorie Emily Stuckey, 85, died Aug. 13, 2006 at a local health care facility. She was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson. She was a retired nurse at Jackson Hospital and a member of the First Baptist Church in Jackson.
She is survived by three daughters, Pat S. Dixon of Jackson, Pamella S. Cook of Milton, Fla. and Paula S. Moseley of Moulton; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was Aug. 16 at First Baptist Church in Jackson with the Rev. Dr. Tim Huie and the Rev. Keith Pugh officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery
in the Winn community with Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directing.
Pallbearers were Rick Finch, Brent Finch, Allen Finch, Joshua Dixon, Frank Dixon, Mickey Moseley, Jim Cook, Jenny Moseley and Jessica Dixon, who are her grandsons, granddaughters and sonsin law.
Honorary pallbearers were Quinton Brooks, Sid Coxwell, Tommy Coxwell, Joey Coxwell, Monte Smith, Bobby Smith, James Harrell, Chuck Harrell, Ray Harrell and Jerry Coxwell, who are all her nephews.
Sullivan
Calvin Clayton Sullivan, a retired Brown & Root employee, died Aug. 9, 2006 at an area health care facility at the age of 70. He was a native of Washington County and a resident of Wagarville. He was the president of the board of directors and a member of the Wagarville Volunteer Fire Department and president of the Wagarville Water System.
Survivors include his wife, Gracie J. Sullivan of Wagarville; son, Eric Sullivan of Wagarville; daughter, Teresa (Tommy) Gilpin of Wagarville; three grandsons, Paul Pritchard and Daniel Gilpin, both of Wagarville and Clayton Sullivan of Chatom; granddaughter, Vickie Gilpin of Wagarville.
The funeral service was Aug. 11 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with the Revs. Dawson Standaland, Jimmy Butts and Junior Long, officiating. Interment was in the Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery.
Davis
Josephine Kelly Davis, 87, a native of Kushla, a former resident of Carlton and a resident of New York, died Aug. 10, 2006 at Peninsula Hospital Center in Far Rockaway, N.Y. She was a homemaker and member of St. John A.M.E. Church of Eight Mile and the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Jamaica, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Kelly and Irene Walker Kelly.
She is survived by a stepmother, Mello Kelly of Eight Mile; four sons, Albert Davis Jr. of Oakland, Calif., Roy Davis of Eight Mile, the Rev. Clayton (Evelyn) Davis Sr. of Whatley and Lessie M. (Jeanne) Davis of West Melbourne, Fla.; four daughters, Virginia L. Davis of Brooklyn, N.Y., Dellie (Charles) Davis-Matthews of Springfield Gardens, N.Y., Elsie (Donnie Sr.) Virgil of Greensboro, N.C. and Daisy (Thomas) Davis-Credle of Laurelton, N.Y.; two sisters, Ruby L. Allen and Sarah K. Williams, both of Eight Mile; six brothers, James Kelly, Elijah Kelly, Joseph Nathaniel "Henry" (Ernestine) Kelly, Phillip (Joyce) Kelly, Henry Kelly and Raymond (Christine) Kelly, all of Eight Mile; 31 grandchildren and 48 greatgrandchildren.
The funeral cortege will leave Andrews Funeral Home at 8 a.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, Aug. 19, 12 noon at St. John A.M.E. Church of Eight Mile. Viewing will be two hours prior to service. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Baptist Cemetery
