WILLIAM GARRETT SR.

ALPINE — Funeral service for William Garrett Sr., 68, will be Tuesday at noon at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Garrett officiating. Burial will be in St. Campbell Church Cemetery.

Mr. Garrett died Oct. 10 at Citizens Baptist Medical Center.

He was a life-long member of St. Campbell Baptist Church where he was a former member of Choir No. 2. He was also a member of the male chorus, a member of the Cheerful Givers Society and a member of Alpine Bay Savings Club. Mr. Garrett retired from Labor Local No. 559 after 41 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazzie Garrett and Lurene Jones Garrett, and two sons, Willie Lee Garrett and William James Garrett.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Moore Garrett of Alpine; four daughters, Vanessa P. Curry, Stacy M. Dickerson, Shani N. Swain and Monica A. Garrett, all of Alpine; five sons, Gillis L. Garrett, Eddie F. Garrett, Laddy P. Garrett, William Garrett, Jr., and Rodney L. Garrett, all of Alpine; five sisters, Phedonia Guyton of Lincoln, Annie P. Staples of Alpine, Rosetta Garrett of Springfield, Ohio, Lorene Willis of Anniston and Erlene Garrett of Cincinnati, Ohio; seven brothers, J. T. Garrett of Talladega, Earlie Garrett of Alpine, the Rev. Raymond Garrett of Alpine, Andrew Garrett, Lee Curtis Garrett and Phillip Garrett, all of Talladega, and Fred Garrett of Alpine; 25 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be J.T. Garrett, Lee Curtis Garrett, Phillip Garrett, Raymond Garrett, Andrew Garrett, Earlie Garrett and Fred Garrett.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gillis William, Jr., Eddie, Rodney, Laddy Garrett and Anthony O. Cook, Jr.

Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

ODELL THOMPSON

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Odell Thompson, 58, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Jacobs Chapel C.M.E. Church with the Rev. Henry McGhee officiating. Burial will be in Kidd Street Cemetery.

Mr. Thompson died Oct. 10 at his residence.

He was a member and lay speaker of the New Hope U.M.C., where he also served as chairman of the trustees and was a member of the Board of Stewards. Mr. Thompson was also a member of Groove Phi Groove and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He was a former employee of the Talladega Federal Correctional Institution where he was a recreational specialist. He was employed at Berry Middle School and served in the United States Air Force from Sept. 1962-1966.

Mr. Thompson graduated from Phillip Schuyler High School in Albany, N.Y., where he was an outstanding football and basketball player. He graduated from Virginia Union University in 1971.

He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Thompson Sr.; his siblings, Annie L. Corley, Beatrice Ashburn, Jeanette Allen, Calvin Thompson Jr., James R. Thompson, John Thompson and Marshall Thompson.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Smythe Thompson of Talladega; one son, Beatrice Thompson of Albany, N.Y.; his mother, Beatrice Thompson of Albany, N.Y.; two sisters, Clara Hankins and Janie Bell Johnson, both of Albany; five brothers, Walter Thompson of Troy, N.Y., Raymond Thompson of Temple Hills, Md., Willie Thompson of Silver Springs, Md., R.D. Thompson and Matthew Thompson, both of Albany, N.Y.; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be James Frazier, Leon White, Jack Babbs, Leonard Haynes, Dennis Westwood, Sylvester Nelson, Bernard Tuck, Harvey Miller, Jr., and Ralph Lylais.

Honorary pallbearers will be Trustees and Stewards of New Hope United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends at Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary Monday from 6-7:30 p.m.

Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

VIOLET CHRISTIAN

DEATSVILLE — Violet Christian died Oct. 12 at her residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Curtis and Sons Funeral Home in Sylacauga.

CHARLES MOORE

SYLACAUGA — Charles Moore died Oct. 12 in Gulf Shores.

Funeral arraignments will be announced later by Curtis and Sons Funeral Home in Sylacauga.

BILLYE MORRIS

TALLADEGA — Billye Morris, 57, died Oct. 11 at her residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary.

MARIE McGREGOR STONE

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Marie McGregor Stone, 86, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Lorenzo McIntyre and the Rev. Bobby L. Harris officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

A native of Talladega County, Mrs. Stone died Oct. 11 at Beverly West Health Care.

She is survived by seven sons, Michael Stone of Fairfield, Gassaway Stone and Robert Stone both of Sylacauga, Larry Stone of Anniston, Terone Stone of Pasadena, Ca., Thomas Stone of Birmingham and Alfred H. Stone of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; two daughters, Willie M. Hatcher of Atlanta, and Bernice Hughes of Sylacauga; 31 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Sons and grandsons will be pallbearers.

Madden’s Funeral Home will direct the service.

KELLEY FAYE HORTON

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Kelley Faye Horton, 31, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel with Brother Rick Cato officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Miss Horton died Oct. 15 at Coosa Valley BMC. She was a client of Cheaha Development Center since 1997. She loved music, her dolls, magazines and all people and was loved by everybody who knew her.
She is survived by her parents, John and Faye Horton of Sylacauga; one sister, Ginger Yoder and husband Del of Sylacauga; one niece, Lauren Browning of Sylacauga; two nephews, Austin Browning and Lucas Browning of Sylacauga; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Randy Browning, Ray Knight, Phillip Harris, Kevin Berry, Dennis Higginbotham, Edward Higginbotham, Frank Horton, and John L. (Leck) Horton.
Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

LARCUS KEITH

TALLADEGA — Larcus Keith died Oct. 16 at Citizens BMC.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Usrey Funeral Home.

RIVERSIDE — Theresa Splunge, 36, died Oct. 15.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sims Funeral Service.

JOHN FRANKLIN DOBBS

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for John Franklin Dobbs, 41, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. Horace Grizzle officiating. Burial will be in Tallassahatchee Cemetery with military honors.

Mr. Dobbs died Oct. 31. He served in the U.S. Army for eight years.

He is survived by one son, Adam Blake Dobbs of Huntsville; his mother, Frances J. Dobbs of Sylacauga; one brother, Norman Dobbs of Sylacauga; one sister, Kathy Jones of Sylacauga; one niece and four nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sylacauga Police Department Active Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.

ADAM C. WILLIAMSON HUFF M.D.

PELL CITY — Memorial service for Adam C. Williamson Huff, M.D., 68, will be Saturday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Pell City with the Rev. Tom Bell officiating. Graveside service will be Monday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. in Allegheney Cemetery at the Temple of Memories in Pittsburgh, Pa., with the Rev. Beverly Gross officiating.

Dr. Huff died Oct. 30. He was a graduate of Culver military Academy in Indiana, Washington and Jefferson College and Hahneman Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa. He served a two year internship at Western Pennsylvania Hospital from 1960 to 1962, served from 1962 until 1964 in a M.A.S.H. unit in the Vietname War and two years residency from 1964 to 1966 Ob-gyn at West Pa. Hospital. He was twice board certified. He pioneered laparoscopic surgery. He delivered more than 12,000 babies during his medical career with 4,000 being delivered in Pell City. He was an avid ballroom dancer and square dancer. He was a member of The Club, the Monmartes, the Elks, the Gadabouts and the V.F.W. He was a Mason, private pilot and played the accordion, organ and the trombone. He was a proficient computer programmer and boat enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Lynn Herbert Huff and Olive Ruth Baum Huff and a sister, Olive Elizabeth Huff.

He is survived by two sons, Lynn Williamson Huff of California and Adam Eckhard Eric Huff of Vermont; three daughters, Dawn S.R.H. Companion of Pell City, Robin N. Huff, M.D. of Maine and Heather Lynette Freeman of Odenville; and eight grandchildren, Helen Companion, Cole Companion, Susannah Huff, Bonnie Huff, Becca Janney, Noah Huff, Eric Freeman and Arisia Huff.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice or the Diabetes. Association.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

LILLIE MARIE HUNTER

NEWSITE — Funeral service for Lillie Marie Hunter, 70, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Great Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Emerson Ware Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Daviston.

Mrs. Hunter died Oct. 30.

She is survived by one daughter, Allison Johnson of Jackson's Gap; five sons, the Rev. Eddie Hunter, Bobby Hunter, Charles S. Hunter and Harold Hunter of Alexander City and Gregory Hunter of Dadeville; one stepdaughter, Lois Moore of Atlanta, Ga.; four sisters, Mary Hunter and Annie Jennings of Alexander City, Velma Spradling of Daviston and Mildred Billings of Tucker, Ga.; three brothers, Shelly Burns of Jackson's Gap, Marvin Burns of Cleveland, Ohio and Virgil Burns of Alexander City; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Wright's Funeral Home will direct the service.

LEE M. MONTGOMERY

LINCOLN — Funeral service for Lee M. Montgomery, 69, of Wills Farm Road, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Salem Missionary Baptist Church with Minister Roger Montgomery officiating. Burial will be in Sunlight Cemetery.

Mr. Montgomery died Oct. 24 at University Hospital in Birmingham. He was a dedicated member of Rolling Wheels Motorclub Association and was retired from General Motors with more than 30 years of service. He was president of the Traveling Friends of Distinction. He was a faithful member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church, a member of the male chorus, the Salem Choir and was a deacon.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Montgomery of Lincoln; two daughters, Sheryl Knott of Oxford and Shari Tillman of Detroit, Mich.; four sons, Gregory Wilson and Michael Montgomery of Detroit, Mich., Sean Tillman of Clinton Township, Mich., and Reginal Montgomery of Lake City, Fla.; one brother, Horace Montgomery of Detroit, Mich.; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Deacons and trustees will serve as pallbearers.

Anniston Funeral Service will direct the service.
