Willie Earl Beck

Willie Earl Beck, 68, a native of Clarke County, a resident of Jackson and formerly of Monroeville, died Jan. 6, 2007 at the age of 68. He owned and operated a barber shop and was a member of Bolen Town Holiness Church.

Survivors include three sons, William Brooks of Cantonment, Fla., Robert Earl Brooks and Charles Brooks, both of Plaquemines Parrish, La.; daughter, Karen Pierre of Monroeville; three brothers, Ray Beck, Charles Beck and Jimmy Beck, all of Jackson; 16 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was Jan. 8 in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville. Interment was in the Mineola Cemetery in Mineola.

Earnest Earl Edmond

The funeral service for Earnest Earl Edmond of Gainestown was Jan. 17 in the chapel of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home. Burial was in the Good Hope A.M.E. Church Cemetery in Gainestown.

Mr. Beck, 57, of Gainestown, died Jan. 10, 2007 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital.

He is survived by three sisters, Mary Autrey and Jacqueline Kendrick, both of Prichard and Christine Spencer of Gainestown; two brothers, Richard Edmond of Eight Mile and John Edmond of Prichard.

Edn'Drika Cherrice Henderson

Edn'Drika Cherrice Henderson, 16, a resident of Jackson, died Jan. 12, 2007 at Jackson Medical Center. She was an 11th grade student at Jackson High School and a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and the Student Government Association. A member of Pine Chapel Baptist Church and the choir, she served as the president of the Junior Usher Board, vice president of the Red Circle and president-elect of the youth department.

She is survived by her parents, Erika and Timothy Abston of Jackson; Daryl Henderson of Atlanta, Ga.; four sisters, Kha'dijiha Abston of Jackson, Lazetta Williams and Sharde Williams, both of Birmingham and Bria Henderson of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, Cedric Williams of Birmingham; grandparents, Christine Green of Jackson, Miss., Elder Georgia P. Nash of Choctaw Bluff and Sally and Adrian Martin of Toddtown; great-grandmothers, Abbie Nash of Choctaw Bluff and Alma Cox of Toddtown.

The funeral service will be Jan. 18, 11 a.m. at Pine Chapel Baptist Church No. 2 in Toddtown. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directing.

Marie Williams Daugherty

Marie Williams Daugherty, 81, died Jan. 14, 2007 at her residence. A native and resident of McIntosh, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include her former husband, A.B. Daugherty; daughter, Sheila Graham of Elberta; two sons, Lewis Daugherty and Jimmy Daugherty, both of McIntosh; two brothers, Malone Williams and Bud Williams, both of Sunflower; three sisters, Mary Blackmon of Jackson, Julia Bell Parnell of Sunflower and Clara Ann Busby of Tibbie; nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Halkam and Emmett Williams, two brothers, Glenn Williams and Seldon Williams.

The funeral service was Jan. 16 at Sunflower United Methodist Church with the Rev. Al Crawford and the Rev. Bob Younge officiating. Interment was in Hooks Cemetery in Deer Head with St. Stephens Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were Marion Daugherty, Scott Daugherty, James Daugherty, Chris Cunningham, Kenneth Cunningham and Lee Cunningham.

Willie Harold Anderson

Willie Harold "Ricky" Anderson, a resident of Chatom and member of New Life Fellowship Church in Chatom, died Jan. 4, 2007 at the age of 51. He was the son of the late Pauline and Harvey Luker.

Mr. Anderson is survived by sister Paulette (Prentis) Brooks of Winn; and brother Benjamin J. Luker of Hobson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Jan. 6 in the Chapel of Lathan Funeral Home of Chatom with the Revs. Danny Wilson and Bob Younge officiating. Burial was in Jones-Beech Cemetery in Hobson.

Marvin Maurice Guy

Marvin Maurice Guy, 74, died Jan. 18, 2007 at a local hospital. He was a native of Creola and a resident of Chatom. Mr. Guy served in the U.S. Marines in the Korean Conflict, was a retired truck driver for Billy Barnes Trucking Co., and a member of the American Legion Post 164.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy R. Guy of Chatom; and sister Betty Jean Finch of Lucedale, Miss.

The funeral service was Jan 20 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom with the Rev. Harold Taylor officiating. Interment was in the Reynolds Church Cemetery.

Julian Hodge Harvey

Julian Hodge Harvey, 72, died Jan. 21, 2007 at Jackson Medical Center. A native of Evans County, Ga. and resident of Savannah, Ga., he had been in the Georgia Air National Guard and retired as a government inspector with the Corps of Engineers. He was a Bethesda alumni, a member of the Cobra Club and Bethel Baptist Church of Richmond Hill, Ga., where he served as an usher and was a member of the Prime Timers Sunday School class. Mr. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents Leroy and Jewel Grimes Harvey, brothers Leroy Harvey Jr. and Harry Harvey, and sisters Melrose Hogan and Sarah Devoust.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Nan V. Harvey of Savannah; four daughters, Julie (Lee) Fonk and Kim (Larry) Hutchinson, all of Savannah, Susan (Mark) Spezzano of Atlanta, Ga. and Kelly (Al) Crawford of Jackson; brother James V. (Harriett) Harvey of Savannah; grandchildren, Matthew, Amanda and Megan Shropshire, Nikki Kearns, Courtney and Blake Spezzano, Kyle and Kasey Hutchinson, Cole, Jacob, Luke and Becca Crawford; great-grandchild Sean Spezzano and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was Jan. 24 at Bethel Baptist Church in Richmond Hill with the Rev. Carlton Cooper and the Rev. Al Crawford officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Arrangements were directed by St. Stephens Funeral Home of St. Stephens and Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home of Savannah.

Remembrances may be sent to the Bethel Baptist Church Mission Fund, P.O. Box 245, Richmond Hill, GA 31324.

Wheeler Randolph Phillips

Wheeler Randolph "Randy" Phillips, 59, a native of Washington County and resident of Clarke County, died at his home in Salitpa on Jan. 18, 2007. He was a Purple Heart Army Veteran of the Vietname War, and was bi-vocational as a home builder and a preacher.

Included as survivors are wife Mary Scott Phillips of Salitpa; six daughters, Amanda Tucker of Daphne, Allyson Singley of Salitpa, Wanda Roberts and Joni Waddill, both of Silas, Cheri Howell of Birmingham and Kristi Becton of Millry; four sisters, Alice Everett of Hobson, Delaine Hollingshead and Lynn Sullivan, both of Millry, and Becky Presley of Waynesboro, Miss.; two brothers, Sherman Phillips and Eddie Phillips, both of Millry; and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services were Jan. 20 at River Hill Baptist Church in Salitpa with interment in the church cemetery. The Revs. Wilton Bennett and Mike Maloy officiated with St. Stephens Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were Brandon Phillips, Jody Phillips, Kevin Hollingshead, John T. Sullivan, Gabe Everett and Merle Everett. J.D. Chapman, Sr.

J.D. Chapman Sr., 86, a native and resident of the Winn community died Jan. 22, 2007 at Jackson Medical Center. He was the son of the late Willie Chapman and Daisy Bumpers Chapman. Mr. Chapman retired after many years of service at the Jackson Vanity Fair Mill in the maintenance department and was a member of St. Paul Church of God Pentecostal in Jackson and the Bethlehem Masonic Lodge No. 866.

Survivors include his wife Mary Adeline Mitchell Chapman of Winn; two sons, Elder Dayton (Lillie) Chapman and J.D. Chapman Jr., (Mona) both of Mobile; six sisters-in-law, Gladys Holloway, Willodean Finch, Willie Mae Daniels and Nonie (Louis) Robinson, all of Grove Hill, Bardee Davis of Wilmington, N.C., and Jeanette Mitchell of Hammond, La.; two brothers-in-law, Jamie Mitchell of Mt. Vernon and Ceasor Mitchell of Cleveland, Ohio; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 30, 11 a.m. at the Church of God Pentecostal in Jackson. Senior Bishop Tyson Johnson, pastor, will be officiating. Viewing is one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Chapman Family Cemetery in Winn. Andrews Funeral Home will be directing. Sadie Mae Jenkins Stephens

Sadie Mae Jenkins Stephens, a native of Magnolia and resident of Jackson, died at the age of 76 on Jan. 18, 2007 at Mobile Infirmary. She was the daughter of the late Aaron Jenkins and Alberta Pritchett Jenkins. Ms. Stephens retired from Teledyne Engineering and was a faithful member of Jackson Street Baptist Church in Jackson.

Survivors include four sons, W.P. (Penny) Jenkins of New York, John (Angie) Hicks, Lawrence (Stephanie) Hicks and Marlon (Gloria) Jenkins, all of Mobile; three daughters, Deloris (George) Jenkins Johnson of Mobile, Suzie Ann Odusanya of Las Vegas, Nev., Jackie Stephens of Nashville, Tenn.; sister Bertha Warren of Birmingham; two brothers, Willie (Carolyn) Jenkins of Jackson and Jimmie (Juanita) Jenkins of Mt. Vernon; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, 1 p.m. at Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson. The Rev. D.W. Moore, pastor, and the Rev. Larry Purifoy, eulogist, will be officiating. Viewing is from noon until the funeral hour and following the eulogy. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Services will be directed by Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson.

Mary Chapman

Mary Chapman, 58, a resident of Grove Hill, died Jan. 19, 2007 at her residence.

She is survived by eight children of Tampa, Fla.; three sisters, Margaret Clarke of Whigham, Ga., Ida Johnson and Addie J. Chambers, both of Chicago, Ill.; four brothers Trevelle Everette of Chicago, James Everette and William Everette, both of Panama, Fla., Willie Everette of Cario, Ga.; godbrother Charles (Vera) Beckham of Grove Hill; goddaughter Dorothy (James) Love of Grove Hill; godsons Charles Beckham Jr. and Fred Welch Jr., both of Grove Hill; and special friends Pamela (John) Williams, Latisha (Jerry) Pendleton, Jerrica Pendleton, all of Whatley, April (Marcus) Reed, Tyra and Taya Williams and Tyias Reed all of Mobile.

Visitation will be Jan. 25 (Today), 12:00 noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, at Wilson Chapel A.M.E. Church in Grove Hill. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Jackson Memorial Funeral Home is directing.
