Edward Ronnie Harrell

Edward Ronnie Harrell died March 19, 2008 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. at the age of 57. A native and resident of Grove Hill, he retired from Clarke Washington Electric and was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Grove Hill.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Brown Harrell of Grove Hill; one son, Clint Harrell of Jackson; his father, Edward Riley Harrell of Grove Hill; mother, Dottie Purvis Harrell of Grove Hill; one brother, Larry P. Harrell of Grove Hill; and three grandchildren, Rebecca Fowler, David Harrell and Laura Beth Harrell, all of Jackson.

Funeral services were March 21 at the Antioch Baptist Church in Grove Hill with the Revs. Jerry Gibson and Lon Baxter officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directing.

Active pallbearers were Bill Brown, James Koen, Kenneth Harrell, Keith Harrell, Scotty Harrell and Johnny Purvis. Honorary pallbearers included the Antioch Volunteer Fire Department, employees of Clarke Washington Electric and Mickel Shepherd.

Deborah Greer Salter

Deborah Kim Greer Salter, a native of Jackson and resident of Pine Hill, died March 24, 2008 at Southwest Alabama Medical Center in Thomasville at the age of 46. A clerk for Thomasville Chevron and former nurse for Jackson Healthcare Facility in Jackson, she was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Jackson. Her son, Courtney Peyton and her father, Samuel Wilson Greer, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Salter of Pine Hill; a son, Casey Salter of Pine Hill; her mother, Sharon Greer of McIntosh; a brother, Carl Sandy Greer of Eight Mile; and one sister, Barbara Greer Norcross of Atlanta, Ga.

The visitation is today (Thursday), from 1 until the 2 p.m. service in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson. Interment will be Saturday, March 29 at 2 p.m. at the McIntyre Family Cemetery in McIntosh under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson.

L.V. James

L.V. James, 83, a native of the Choctaw Bluff community of Jackson, died March 21, 2008 at Doctor's Community Hospital in Seabrook, Md. He was 83 years old. A member of Saint James African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he was a steward and former church treasurer, he was lovingly known as "Bishop", "32", "Paps", "Pop" and "Daddy". An honorable discharged Pfc. WWII veteran of the United States Army, he served from June 15, 1943 until Jan. 12, 1946 in Northern France, Ardennes Rhineland and Central Europe. His decorations and citations include EAMET Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

His beloved wife of 58 years, Florence "Lil Gal" Perine James, and a son, Ervin James, preceded him in death.

Survivors include eight sons, Ottis (Oreen) James, Wesley (Katie Mac) James, Evon (Kathleen) James, the Rev. Ivory (Jane) James, all of Choctaw Bluff, Tony (Cathy) James of Prattville, Glen (Barbara) James of Birmingham, Ray Lee (Thelma) Rocker of Pittsburgh, Calif. and Donald (Gwen) James of Hayward, Calif.; four daughters, Joann Barbosa of Vallejo, Calilf., Marquetta (Lewis) Roberts of Oakland, Calif., Margaret Mitchell of Glendale, Md. and Kathy (Phabian) Gaston of Jackson; two sisters, Virginia Lucas of Choctaw Bluff and Thelma Allen of Mobile; two brothers, Jim H. (Ruthie Mac) James and Albert (Beatrice) James, both of Mobile; 35 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, March 29, 12 noon at Saint James African Methodist Episcopal Church in the Choctaw Bluff community of Jackson with the Rev. Ivory James, eulogist, and the Rev. Clausell Boykin, pastor, officiating. Viewing will be two hours before the service. military rites will be performed at graveside followed by interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church and at the James' family home. Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson is directing arrangements.

Frank James Woodard

Frank James Woodard, 47, died March 19, 2008 at the Washington County Infirmary Hospital in Chatom. He was a member of Cooper Lewis C.M.E. Church of Chatom.

Survivors include his mother, Mamie Woodard of Chatom; four brothers, Joe D. Woodard and Sammie Woodard, both of Chatom, Eulacee Woodard of Detroit, Mich. and Lewis C. Woodard of Odessa, Texas; four sisters, Mary Woodard, Lucy McCarthy and Betty Woodard, all of Chatom and Mary Ann Evans of Mobile.

Funeral services were March 25 at the Cooper Lewis C.M.E. Church with interment following in the Hill Crest Cemetery of Chatom. Arrangements were directed by Jackson Memorial Funeral Home of Jackson.

Michael Mansley

Michael Mansley, a native of Mississippi and resident of the Bigbee community in Millry, died March 23, 2008 at his home. He was a mechanic by trade.

Survivors include a son, Michael (Jimmie Lee) Mansley II of Bigbee; five daughters, Karen (Sapo) Mezo of Laurel, Miss., April (Terry) Johnston of Deer Park, Chrissy Mansley of Wagarville, Amy Mansley of Millry and Anna (William) Sullivan of Mobile; and three brothers, Keith Mansley of Gadsden, and William Mansley and Charles Mansley, both of Mobile.

Funeral services were March 25 at Little Rock Assembly of God Church in Waynesboro, Miss. Interment was in the church cemetery with Bro. Lamar Chapman officiating and St. Stephens Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were Terry Johnston, Scotty Hickman, Eric Singleton, Sapo Mezo, Shane Jordan and Nick Sims.

Donald Cope Finlayson

Donald Cope Finlayson, a native of Bullock County and a resident of Clanton, died at the age of 74, March 15, 2008 in Montgomery. James Malcomb Finlayson and Daisy Mae Cope Finlayson, his parents, preceded him in death. He was a retired teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Earle Finlayson of Clanton; two sons, Donny (Judy) Finlayson of Clanton and Ray (Cheryl) Finlayson of Katy, Texas; two grandsons, Bart Finlayson of Clanton and Nathan Finlayson of Katy; two granddaughters, Brooke (John) Sullivan of Opelika and Jessica Finlayson of Katy; and mother-in-law, Virginia Wilkinson of Jackson.

Funeral services were March 16 at the First Baptist Church of Clanton with the Rev. Matt DeBord and the Rev. Jay Hurd officiating. Interment was in the Martin Memorial Cemetery in Clanton with Martin Funeral Home directing.

Members of the Clanton Lions Club and his Jack's Coffee Club were the honorary pallbearers.

Vivian Martin Jackson

Vivian Martin Jackson, 53, died Feb. 10, 2008 in Little Rock, Ark.

She is survived by two sons, Gregory (Lauren) Jackson II of Houston, Texas and Geoffrey Jackson of Little Rock, Ark.; her mother, Rosie Martin of Jackson; three brothers, Larry (Dorissa) Martin of Killen, Texas, Earl (Gloria) Martin and the Rev. Carl Martin, both of Jackson; six sisters, Yvonne (Elijah) Bennet of Chicago, Ill., Janice (Lawrence) Nelson of Little Rock, Althea Martin of Phoenix City, Kathy (Alonzo) Terry and Lillian (Brenson) Parks, both of Atlanta, Ga., Christine (Ronnie) Wilson of Lucedale, Miss.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Feb. 16 at the Greater Christ Temple Pentecostal Church in Little Rock with Robinson Mortuary of Little Rock directing.

Jacob Aubrey McIntosh Jr.

Jacob Aubrey McIntosh Jr., a native of Gulfport, Miss., longtime resident of Greenville, S.C. and former resident of Leroy, died March 23, 2008 at the age of 77. Floride and Aubrey McIntosh, his parents, preceded him in death. A veteran of the U.S. Navy and Air Force, he also served in the Merchant Marines. He attended college at Auburn and the University of Alabama. The opportunity to see the world came as he traveled as a merchant seaman; and he viewed the U.S. by driving from Leroy to Anchorage, Alaska. He lived in Alaska for four years. Devoted to his family and grandchildren, he enjoyed reading, coaching his boys' baseball teams, hunting, fishing and golf.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia McIntosh of Greenville; two sons, Brian McIntosh of Cape Carteret, N.C. and Duncan McIntosh of Columbia, S.C.; one sister, Anne McIntosh of Birmingham; two daughters in law, Laurie and Lisa McIntosh; four grandchildren, Dun, Ike and Kirk McIntosh and Steven Fall; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services were private. Memorials may be made to Palmetto Baseball League, P.O. Box 50502, Columbia, SC 29250. Dunbar Funeral Home of Columbia directed the arrangements.

Roberta O. Chastain

Roberta O. Chastain, a native of Chatom and a homemaker, died Dec. 28, 2006 at her residence in Jackson at the age of 82.

She is survived by a son, John J. Chastain of Jackson; daughter, Julie C. (Rickie) Clanton of Coffeeville and sister, Marion O. Brown of Chatom.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joe L. Chastain.

The graveside service was Dec. 30 at Pine Crest Cemetery in Jackson with Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directing.

Donations may be made to the Coffeeville Public Library Fund for the purpose of purchasing books for the proposed new library.

Edward Regia Dunagan

Edward Regia Dunagan, 85, died Dec. 31, 2006 at an area facility. A native of Bethel and a resident of Jackson, he was a member of Forest Avenue Baptist Church in Jackson. He was retired from the U.S. Army where he served in Germany and Japan during World War II.

He is survived by a son, Donald Dunagan of Jackson; stepdaughter, Sallie Shields of Jackson; brother, Clanton Dunagan of Grand Bay; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was Jan. 3, 2007 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with the Rev. Carter Bates officiating. Interment was in Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson.

Pallbearers were Gary Counselman, Loyde Orso, Micheal Huckabee, Jim Lolley, Benny Counselman and Johnny Counselman.
