Garnie Joe Carter

1934-2003

Funeral services for Garnie Joe Carter, 69, of Jackson's Gap were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home Chapel. Miles Crouch and Kevin Holman officiated. Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003.

Mr. Carter died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Russell Medical Center. He was born July 31, 1934, in Tallapoosa County to Garnett Mitchell and Annie Lou Still Carter. He worked in materials management for Russell Corp. and was chief umpire for Dadeville baseball and softball. He was an active member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy in Korea. He was an avid fisherman and a great dad.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Hilyer Carter of Jackson's Gap; two sons, Garnie Joe Carter Jr. and wife Dana of Birmingham and Jimmy David Cater and wife Leonna of Dadeville; two daughters, Emily Dawn Smith and Ellen Kate Smith, both of Jackson's Gap; three grandchildren, Morgan Carter, Jillian Carter and Caroline Carter, all of Birmingham; two sisters, Floris Baker of Oklahoma and Shirley Gautney of Montgomery; one brother, Wilton Carter of Jackson's Gap and his mother-in-law, Sara Bethune of Jackson's Gap.

Radney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Shaylynn Faith Strickling

Oct. 15, 2003

Funeral services for Shaylynn Faith Strickling of Alexander City will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at Town Creek Baptist Church. Bro. Stanley Pete Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow at Hackneyville Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003.

She is survived by her parents, Norman and Misha Strickling of Alexander City; two sisters, Machelle Strickling and Tori Strickling, both of Alexander City and her grandparents, M.J. and Shelby Strickling and Randall Youngblood.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Cheryl Scott Youngblood.

Radney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Peggy Carlene Russell

1939-2003

Funeral services for Peggy Carlene Russell of Alexander City will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Ourtown. The Rev. B.D. Walton will officiate. Burial will follow at Armour's Memorial Garden.

Mrs. Russell died Oct. 10, 2003, at Russell Medical Center. She was born Feb. 26, 1939, to Clover Russell and Artie Parker.

She is survived by eight children, Arthur F. Russell and wife Jewel, Robert L. Russell, Orlando D. Russell, Anthony B. Russell, Dwight D. Russell and wife Yolanda, Gwendolyn J. Russell, Peggy V. Hutchins and Lashonda W. Russell, all of Alexander City; one sister, Emma Jean Benson of Alexander City; 29 children and 13 great-grandchildren.

Armour's Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Abigail Smith Moreman

1927-2003

Memorial services for Abigail Smith Moreman, 76, of Dadeville will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Sardis United Methodist Church in Dadeville. The Rev. Steven King will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003.

Mrs. Moreman died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003. She was born Monday, Aug. 22, 1927, to Herbert Allyn Smith and Kathleen Hollingsworth Smith, both of Kansas, City, Mo. She graduated from Central High School and was in the National Honor Society, president of Minerva Literary Society, a member of George Maris Chapter, Colonial Dames XVII for 30 years, president of Birmingham Guitar Society two times, 20-year resident of Mountain Brook and a member of Valley Christian Church and Sardis United Methodist Church in Dadeville for 20 years. She was a graduate of Kansas City Junior College with an associate degree and attended Sanford University at Birmingham and Auburn University. She was a 50-year member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Tohopeka Chapter. Her hobbies included computer and genealogy. She had been a musician most of her life, both choral and instrumental, beginning with the violin at an early age and later in life began the study of the classical guitar, which she then taught for several years. She loved traveling and with Clee had been to Europe several times, as well as the Caribbean and Hawaii. Their favorite, however, was their palapa in the Yucatan, Mexico, where they spent winters for about 10 years. She was a born again Christian and loved her church.

She is survived by her husband, Clee Hawkins Moreman of Dadeville; one daughter, Susan Whatley Owens of Dadeville; three sons, Vance Taylor Whatley of Conroe, Texas, Jeffery Crider Moreman and Nicholas Allyn Moreman, both of Birmingham; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Richardson of Dadeville, Jeremiah Owens of Birmingham, Matthew Whatley of Conroe, Texas and Kit Moreman and one great-granddaughter, Reagan Richardson of Dadeville.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sardis United Methodist Church, c/o Barbara Clay, 171 Deerwood Court, Dadeville, AL 35853.

Joshua Wayne Williams

1979-2003

Funeral services for Joshua Wayne Williams, 24, of Ider, formerly of Dadeville, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Bro. Ed Thomas will officiate. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Langley Funeral Home.

Mr. Williams died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003. He was born Tuesday, March 20, 1979.

He is survived by his parents, Tony Wayne Williams and Brenda Gail Williams both of Ider; one brother, Joseph Ray Williams and wife Marley of Dadeville; one sister, Kayla Williams of Ider; his grandfather, Hollis Ashworth of Henry County, Ga.; his grandmother, Geneva Williams and husband Butch of Ider; and his fiance, Staci Summerford of Ider.

Langley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Adelee "Lisa" Dean

1931-2003

Funeral services for Adelee "Lisa" Dean, 72, of Alexander City, will be at 11 a.m.., Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at Victory Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Alexander City Cemetery. The Rev. John Watkins will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home and for one hour prior to services.

Mrs. Dean died Dec. 8, 2003, at Jackson's Hospital. She was born Oct. 19, 1931, in Raleigh, N.C., to Carl Chatham and Lily Clark. She was a textile spinner at Russell Mills.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Clark Dean of Alexander City; three sons, Kenneth Camp of Alexander City and Randall and Jerry Laster, both of LaGrange, Ga.; four daughters, Sherry Blakley and husband Chuck of Kellyton, Kathy Galloway and husband Mickey of Alexander City, and Susan Dean and Johnnie Smith, both of Alexander City; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Sally Kellum.

Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Kate McClendon

1907-2003

Graveside services for Kate McClendon, 96, of LaFayette were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at LaFayette City Cemetery. The Revs. Charles Whitson and Clifford DeLee officiated. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Jeff Jones Funeral Home.

Mrs. McClendon died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Russell Medical Center. She was born Oct. 10, 1907, in Chambers County to Robert and Annie Williams. She was retired from Avondale Mills and was a member of LaFayette Heights Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Nell Smith of Lanett and Sandra Newberry of Alexander City; one son, Clyde McClendon Jr. of LaFayette; two sisters, Sarah Hansen of Lake Martin and Ruth Thomas of Lynchburg, Va.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Clyde McClendon Sr.
