Marie M. Truitt

1923-2003

Funeral services for Marie M. Truitt, 80, of Valley will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley. The Rev. James J. Harper will officiate. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the Alexander City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home.

Mrs. Truitt died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Lanier Memorial Hospital. She was born March 14, 1923, in Tallapoosa County to Clara Alice Cormer McCullough and Leon B. McCullough. She had formerly worked in the Tallapoosa County School System where she was director of the child nutrition program. She later retired from the Chambers County School System where she held the same job. She was a member of the Shawmut United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband Lewis Truitt; two daughters, Leona Redd and husband Bill Libengood of Long Beach, Miss., and Wanda Fenn of Valley; six grandchildren, Angie Colley and husband Bobby of Huguley, Andy Redd and Alan Redd, both of Gulfport, Miss., Michael Fenn and Marissa Fenn, both of Valley, and Rachel Fenn of Long Beach, Miss.; three great-grandchildren, Ali Colley, Bo Colley and Catie Colley, all of Huguley.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Shawmut United Methodist Church in her memory.

Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Maedean McLeod Scott

1922-2003

Funeral services for Maedean McLeod Scott, 81, of Alexander City will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at the Chapel of Radney's Funeral Home. The Revs. Tim Harris and Bruce Willis will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Radney's Funeral Home.

Mrs. Scott died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at her residence. She was born Oct. 15, 1922, in Clay County to Cornelius Barto and Dollie Morgan McLeod. She worked as a seamstress for Russell Corp. for 37 years and volunteered as a Pink Lady at Russell Medical Center. She was an active member of the Comer Memorial Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for 37 years and was an active member of the WMU. Mrs. Scott also was an avid flower gardener and baker.

She is survived by one daughter, Maenette Hanners and husband Elmer of LaGrange, Ga.; one son, Mike Scott of Alexander City; two grandchildren, Phil Hagan and wife Mandy of Opelika and Rachel Stewart and husband Rob of Auburn; one great-granddaughter, Mallory Hagan of Opelika; one sister, Vasti Coggins of Alexander City; and one brother, Ralph McLeod and his wife Helen of Alexander City.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Olin Scott.

Radney's Funeral Home of Alexander City is in charge of arrangements.

Frederick William Hutchinson Sr.

1920-2003

Funeral services for Frederick William Hutchinson Sr., 83, of Alexander City will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Miracle Missionary Baptist Church. Co-pastor Marilyn B. Benson will officiate. Burial will follow at Alexander City Cemetery.

Mr. Hutchinson died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Russell Medical Center. He was born Nov. 23, 1920, in Alexander City to W.L. and Dora Williams Hutchinson. He served as owner and operator of House of Hutchinson Funeral Home. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Haven United Methodist Church in Alexander City. He attended Alabama A&M University in Normal and received a bachelor's degree in business at Alabama State University in Montgomery. For 25 years, he has been a member of the East Alabama Funeral Directors Association and has served numerous years as a member of the Alabama Funeral Directors and Morticians Association. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and served his community as a funeral director for 60 years while operating as president of House of Hutchinson Funeral Home in Alexander City.

He is survived by his devoted wife Carolyn Hutchinson; four children, Frederick Hutchinson II and his wife Beatrice and Sidney Hutchinson and his wife Florence all of Uniontown, Mark Hutchinson of Montgomery and LaCrista Hutchinson of Birmingham; four grandchildren, Melissa of Alexander City and Frederick Hutchinson II, Tomeka Hutchinson and Tamara Hutchinson all of Uniontown; four great-grandchildren; his father-in-law, McKay Mitchell and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an adopted brother, Willie J. Cook and a granddaughter, Frederika Vernetta Hutchinson.

House of Hutchinson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ida Traylor

1903-2003

Funeral services for Ida Traylor, 100, of Dadeville will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Carter will officiate. Burial will follow at Dadeville City Cemetery.

Ms. Traylor died Nov. 30, 2003, at Hamilton House Nursing Center in Columbus, Ga.. She was born Aug. 25, 1903, to Harold and Green Adams.

She is survived by one grandson, Charles Traylor of Sylacauga and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Wright's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nelladeane Chandler Burnett

Dec. 2, 2003

Funeral services for Nelladeane Chandler Burnett of Alexander City will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Revs. Dr. Gerald Hallmark and Clayton Gilbert will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Burnett died Dec. 2, 2003, at Chapman HealthCare Center. She was born in Birmingham to Nellie Collins Chandler and Roscoe Draden Chandler Sr. She was a graduate of Ensley High School and Alabama Women's College of Montevallo where she was a math and chemistry major and co-captain of the Gold Team her senior year. She was employed by Tennessee Coal and Iron, Alabama Power Company and Southern Research Institute where she was the first female chemist. With her husband, she later owned the Gulf Oil Distribution Plant in Alexander City. After the birth of her daughter she became a full-time homemaker.

She was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church and an active member of First Baptist Church in Alexander City where she taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Laurete Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was one of the first volunteers at Russell Hospital and served as president of the local American Cancer Society. For the last seven years she lived at Chapman Assisted Living where she had many friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Burnett Howard and son-in-law Bob Howard both of Alexander City; two grandchildren, Rebecca Burnett Howard and Robert Chandler Howard both of Alexander City; one sister, Evelyn C. Strickland of Nashville; two nieces, Louisa Strickland of Birmingham and Janie B. Curtis of Ocala, Fla.; and one nephew, Harry Sanders of Anniston.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years, George Edwin Burnett and a brother, Roscoe Draden Chandler Jr.

Nov. 2, 2003

Betty Ann Simmons, formerly of Goodwater, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003. Funeral arrangements are incomplete but will be announced later by Armour's Memorial Funeral Home.

Timothy Patrick "Pat" Lynch

1958-2003

Memorial services for Timothy Patrick "Pat" Lynch, 45, of Alexander City will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at Riemann's Pass Christian Chapel.

Alvin Daniels

1937-2003

Funeral services for Alvin Daniels of Alexander City will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at GAP Fellowship Church. The Rev. Lewis Benson will officiate. Burial will follow at Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery in Alexander City.

Mr. Daniels died Oct. 30, 2003, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham. He was born Aug. 1, 1937, to Joe and Julia Buckner Daniels.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Daniels; three daughters, Julia Moon and husband Gene B., Regina McNeil and Debra Zeigler, all of Alexander City; three sons, Alfred B. Daniels and wife Clara of Wisconsin, Terry Daniels and wife Bernadette of Chicago and Alvin Howard and wife Sandra of Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Mary Jackson and husband Stonewall of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, John Willie Daniels of Alexander City and Elijah Daniels of Cleveland, Ohio; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
