Hilda G. Martin

1919-2003

Graveside services for Hilda G. Martin, 84, of Alexander City will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Hillview Memorial Park. The Rev. Clayton Gilbert will officiate. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2003.

Mrs. Martin died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Chapman's Healthcare Center. She was born April 14, 1919, in Macon County to Claud Hicks and Minnie Hilda Myhan Godfrey. She worked as a seamstress for Russell Corp. for more than 20 years and was a member of First Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Lawrence P. "Larry" Martin and wife Brenda of Atlanta and Robert R. "Bobby" Martin of Alexander City; three brothers, Wyatt Godfrey and wife Linda of Society Hill, Vernon Godfrey and wife Martha and Monty Godfrey and wife Belle, all of Montgomery; one sister, Betty Ware of Prattville; three grandchildren, Robert Crawford "Rob" Martin of Alexander City, Brian Godfrey Martin and Jaime Parker and husband Charlie, all of Lawrenceville, Ga.; one great-grandchild, Catlin Vickery of Lawrenceville, Ga., and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Martin and granddaughter, Paige Martin.

Pallbearers will be Tom Godfrey, Randy Godfrey, Ken Godfrey, Stucky Godfrey, John Bailey and Charles Tate.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Children's Harbor, One Our Children's Highway, Children's Harbor, AL 35010-9534 or to the American Cancer Society, Mid-South Division Inc., 3054-C McGehee Road, Montgomery, AL 36111.

Evelyn O. Carlisle

Oct. 1, 2003

Memorial services for Evelyn O. Carlisle, 89, of Lititz, Penn., formerly of Alexander City, will be at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 25, 2003, at First United Methodist Church. The Revs. James P. Carlisle and Jimmy Bassham will officiate.

Mrs. Carlisle died Oct. 1, 2003, at Moravian Manor in Lititz, Penn. During her work life in Alexander City she worked for Carlisle Drug and Paul's Drug Center. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Alexander City. She moved to Lancaster, Penn., in 1994, to live near her son, James P. Carlisle. She was born in Little Rock, Ark., and was the wife of the late William O. Carlisle.

She is survived by one son, James P. "Pat" Carlisle and wife Laima K. of Lancaster, Penn.; four grandchildren, Scott Reidenbaugh, Wendy Laubach, Alexandra Ji-Anne Carlisle and Erika Li Carlisle and one great-granddaughter, Abby Laubach.

Josephine Kahanec

A funeral mass for Josephine Kahanec, 83, of Dadeville will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Saint John the Apostle Catholic Church. Father Bruce Krause will officiate. Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to services. Burial will be held at a later date in Johnson City, N.Y.

Mrs. Kahanec was a member of Saint John the Apostle Catholic Church. Having lived 80 years of her life in New York, she moved to Dadeville due to health reasons to be near her daughter and family. She was a special resident of Wilder Nursing Home and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, John Kahanec of Johnson City, N.Y.; two daughters, Dr. Frances Kahanec Bartel and husband Dr. Robert Bartel of Dadeville and Patricia Kahanec of Johnson City, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Bobby Bartel of Tuscaloosa, Mary Jo Bartel, Eva-Lin Bartel and Johnny Bartel, all of Dadeville; her niece, Jeanne Pastore and nephew, James Morris, both of Binghamton, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Sav-A-Life of Tallapoosa County.

King Dorsey Knight

1922-2003

Funeral services for King Dorsey Knight, 80, of Alexander City will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Lynn Peters will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillview Memorial Park with Veterans Honors provided by the Alexander City Veteran's Honor Guard. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home.

Mr. Knight died on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at his residence. He was born Oct. 22, 1922 in Chambers County to M.W. and Ollie Knight. He was a member of Comer United Methodist Church, the American Legion and DAV and a lifetime member of Masons. He was also a U.S. Army Veteran and POW of WWII and was involved with Alexander City's Veteran's Honor Guard. He worked as a receiving agent for Russell Corp. where he later retired and also volunteered at the Recycling Center and the Veteran's Home.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Adelene K. Knight of Alexander City and two sisters, Leana Childree and Vina Mae Senn, both of Brundidge.

Jessie Adams Manley

1905-2003

Funeral services for Jessie Adams Manley, 98, of Jackson's Gap will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Zion Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Larry Patterson will officiate. Burial will follow at Dadeville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Manley died Sept. 30, 2003, at Russell Medical Center. She was born April 15, 1905, to Green and Margie Adams.

She is survived by one daughter, Claudia Gordon and husband Bea of Anniston; eight grandchildren, Carolyn Sands and husband Charles of Jackson's Gap, Barbara Cox and Pepper Turner, both of Atlanta, Parthelia R. Gordon and Amy Dudley and husband James, both of Anniston, Jessie Mae Ivory and Henrietta Jones, both of Birmingham and Veronica Craighead of Delaware; one sister, Ida Traylor of Columbus, Ga.; 21 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Wright's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Myrtle Peoples

1907-2003

Funeral services for Myrtle Peoples, 96, of Sylacauga will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Goodwater United Methodist Church. The Revs. Jesse Shaddix and Joseph Fain will officiate. Burial will follow at Goodwater Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at the church.

Mrs. Peoples died Oct. 1, 2003. She was born March 22, 1907, in Coosa County. She retired from Russell Manufacturing after some 30 years of service and was a member of Goodwater Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, James R. Peoples and wife Audra of Sylacauga; two sisters, Ruth McCallum of Opelika and Sara Morrison and husband Ralph of Coco Beach, Fla.; three grandsons, Jimmy Peoples and wife Brucile and Bobby Peoples and wife Barbara, all of Jackson's Gap, and Terry Peoples and wife Sue of Goodwater; four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

Jose Manuel Flores

1976-2003

A memorial mass for Jose Manuel Flores, 27, of Alexander City will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Saint John the Apostle Catholic Church. Father Bruce Krause will officiate.

Mr. Flores died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, while visiting family in San Jose Del Xoconoxtle El Grande, Guanajuato, Mexico. He was born Aug. 6, 1976, in Guanajuato, Mexico, to Alfonzo Flores and Maria Flores. He was buried Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at 2 p.m. in Guanajuato, Mexico.

He is survived by two children, Alejandro "Alex" Manuel Flores and Olivia Maria Flores; his fiancé, Melissa D. Owens; seven brothers, Salvador Flores, Jose Flores, Alfonzo Flores, Felipe Flores, Martin Flores, Armando Flores and Jesus Flores and two sisters, Juana Flores and Josefina Flores.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Diego Flores and two sisters, Rosita Flores and Juditas Flores.
