Larue McDaniel Perez

1922-2003

Funeral services for Larue McDaniel Perez, 81, of New Site were at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at New Site United Methodist Church. The Revs. Bobby Shaw, Wayne Cowhick and Randy Anderson officiated. Burial followed at Bethlehem-New Salem Cemetery. Visitation was from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003.

Mrs. Perez died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Russell Medical Center. She was born Jan. 5, 1922, in Tallapoosa County to Thomas Roy and Rosella Jones McDaniel. She was a member of New Site United Methodist Church, the New Site Senior Citizens Group and the Seekers Bible Study group. She was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. She has served as a pink lady volunteer at Lake Martin Community Hospital and was a great supporter and booster of Horseshoe Bend School. She and her husband Tony lived in Tampa, Fla., from 1946 to 1988 when they moved to New Site.

She is survived by her husband, Anthony "Tony" Perez of New Site; one daughter, Nancy Birkmaier and husband Craig of Gainesville, Fla.; two grandchildren, Christopher Jason Birkmaier and Katilin Rebecca Birkmaier, both of Gainesville, Fla.; one sister, LaRosser Kinman of New Site and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Francis Graham and Modene Graham and one brother, Harold Reuben McDaniel.

The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made to New Site United Methodist Church, 108 Church Road, New Site, AL 36256.

Jerry Wade Price

1941-2003

Funeral services for Jerry Wade Price, 62, of Sylacauga were at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at First United Methodist Church in Sylacauga. Dr. Todd Henderson and the Rev. Wayne Holloway officiated. Burial followed at Hillview Cemetery in Alexander City.

Mr. Price died Oct. 10, 2003, at his residence, after a lengthy illness. He was born March 6, 1941, in Alexander City to Virgil Glendon and Vera "Bebe" Fuller Price. He was married to Patricia Gallops Price. He was a 1963 graduate of Auburn University with a bachelor of science degree in textile management. He was employed in the Industrial Division of West Point Pepperell in West Point, Ga., and held manufacturing management positions at Lanett and Shawmutt Industrial Mills. He accepted a sales position in the division's Atlanta office in 1978. He was a member of Ray Thomas Memorial Presbyterian Church in Marietta, Ga., was a member of the Atlanta Textile Club and returned to the Valley area in 1990 as a sales representative for Wellington Sears Company and continued that position after the sale of the company to Johnston Industries until 2001. He and his wife, Pat, made their home in Pine Mountain, Ga., from 1991 to 2002. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pine Mountain and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was active in the building of two mission churches in Harris County. He was a member of the board of directors for the Harris County Habitat for Humanity and was actively involved in the plans and building of several homes. He enjoyed his gardening and greenhouse. He shared vegetables and plants with friends and neighbors.

Funeral services for Charles Vernon Yarbrough, 63, of Alexander City were Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Heritage Chapel. The Rev. Rush officiated. Burial followed at Russell Farms Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003 from 5-8 p.m.

Ison "Junior" Foreman

1930-2003

Funeral services for Ison "Junior" Foreman, 73, of LaFayette were Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at 1 p.m. The Rev. Calvin Marshall officiated. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Mr. Foreman died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003 at his residence. He was born March 24, 1930 in Chambers County. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in LaFayette.

He is survived by four children, Shelia Christian and husband Joe of Opelika, Rickey Foreman, Larry Foreman and Brenda Foreman all of LaFayette; a previous wife, Magnolia Foreman of LaFayette; eight step-children, Johnnie Flowers and husband Isaac and Allen Whitlow both of Lafayette, Bobby Whitlow and wife Lee Ann of Huguley, Elaine Allen of Dale City, Va., Baird Ray, John Allen Jr. and Jean Celester, all of Boston and Carolyn Davis of Sanderville, Ga.; one sister, Laura Brooks and husband James of Valley; a special nephew, Edward Broom and wife LaElla of LaFayette; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; one special friend, Robert "Sonny Boy" Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Allen Foreman and stepson Echols Whitlow.

Fannie Mae Mask

1909-2003

Funeral services for Fannie Mae Mask, 93, of Alexander City will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2003at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mask died Oct. 9, 2003, at Adams Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 6, 1909, in Tallapoosa County to Marvin Reese Sanford and Ola Virgil Duffy Sanford. She was a folder at Russell Corp.

She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Joyce Spivey of Jackson's Gap; one granddaughter, Leigh Ann Waters and her husband Art of Eufaula; two great-grandsons, Wesley Waters and Sam Waters both of Eufaula; two brothers, Douglas Sanford and Jimmy Sanford both of Alexander City; three sisters, Edna Hunter, Billie Jordan and Bobbie Brown all of Alexander City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lloyd Culver Mask; two sons, Leon Mask and Charles Mask; and two sisters, Opal Calloway and Mary Knowles.

Funeral services for Mary Jane Keel, 66, of Camp Hill will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Langley Funeral Home Chapel. Revs. Richard Hall, Jimmie Carr, Carl Kelly, Bobby Ned Duck and Clyde Coker will officiate. Burial will follow at Lafayette City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at Langley Funeral Home.

Lula Ashworth

Oct. 9, 2003

Graveside services for Lula Ashworth of Alexander City will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Parkdale United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Bobby Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ashworth died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Chapman Healthcare Center. She was born in Coosa County to Sam Price and Lizzie Jane Pike Price. She worked as a homemaker and was a member of Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, Billy Ashworth and his wife Virginia of Alexander City; three daughters, Betty Lashley and her husband Thomas and Mary Robertson and her husband Herman all of Alexander City, and Sue Adair of Jasper; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rosie Holmes of Sylacauga and Robbie Holmes of Mobile.

Vertis Woodruff Stephens

Graveside services for Vertis Woodruff Stephens, 80, of Alexander City will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Hillview Memorial Park. Rev. George Stewart will officiate. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home.

Garnie Joe Carter

1934-2003

Funeral services for Garnie Joe Carter, 69, of Jackson's Gap will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home Chapel. Miles Crouch and Kevin Holman will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, 2003.

Mr. Carter died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Russell Medical Center. He was born July 31, 1934, in Tallapoosa County to Garnett Mitchell and Annie Lou Still Carter. He worked in materials management for Russell Corp. and was chief umpire for Dadeville baseball and softball. He was an active member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy in Korea. He was an avid fisherman and a great dad.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Hilyer Carter of Jackson's Gap; two sons, Garnie Joe Carter Jr. and wife Dana of Birmingham and Jimmy David Cater and wife Leonna of Dadeville; two daughters, Emily Dawn Smith and Ellen Kate Smith, both of Jackson's Gap; three grandchildren, Morgan Carter, Jillian Carter and Caroline Carter, all of Birmingham; two sisters, Florice Baker of Oklahoma and Shirley Gautney of Montgomery; one brothers, Wilton Carter of Jackson's Gap and his mother-in-law, Sara Bethune of Jackson's Gap.
