Gladys Ruth Brooks

Funeral services for Gladys Ruth Brooks, 69, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, the Revs. Andrew Ball and Vernon Alvis officiating, with Burial in Garden City Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Brooks died Monday, June 30 in Hanceville. She was born in Blount County on June 21, 1934 to Larkin and Ludie Graves Bales.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, S.W. Brooks Jr.; and a grandson, Kevin Nunn.

Survivors include four daughters, Rhonda (Charlie) Alldredge of Albertville, Kathy (Freddie) Carnell of Hanceville, Debra (Roger) Nunn and Anita (Jerry) Woodard, both of Garden City; a son, Randy (Pam) Brooks of Garden City; three brothers, Alton Bales of Garden City, Douglas Bales of Lakeland, Fla. and Kenneth Bales of Hanceville; a sister, Wilma Campbell of Garden City; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Albert Wilson Basenberg Sr.

Funeral services for Albert Wilson Basenberg Sr., 88, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Wayne Barrett and Dr. William Burkett officiating, with Burial in Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Basenberg died Tuesday, July 1 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 10, 1914 in Cullman County to Martin William and Bethelee Jacobs Basenberg. He was a lab technician, working 26 years for Kraft Food in Brooksville, Miss., until his retirement in 1976. He lived in Crawford, Miss. from 1949 to 1977 when he returned to Cullman County. He owned and operated registered cattle farms in both Crawford and Cullman. He was active in the Baptist church for most of his life and served as deacon in the Brooksville Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Walter, Gilbert "Dick", Claude and Herbert Basenberg; and a sister, Pauline Crider.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Martha Cummins Basenberg of Cullman; a son, Albert Wilson (Donna) Basenberg Jr. of Kingwood, Texas; a daughter, Linda B. (Oral) Conyers of Cumming, Ga.; two granddaughters, Leslie (Mike) Whittle and Courtney Basenberg; two sisters-in-law, Maggie Basenberg and Margaret Basenberg; three stepgrandchildren, Tamea (Art) Isham, Bruce Conyers and Julie (Cliff) Jo; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Seventh Street Preservation Group or Hospice of Cullman County.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Baker, Bill Floyd, Terry Gorham, Dr. Bruce Lee, Roger Sams, Dr. Steve Skinner, Dave Stephenson and Dr. Tom Williamson.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Melba Ailene Heer

Funeral services for Melba Ailene Heer, 76, of Hanceville will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Donald Abbott officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Heer died Monday, June 30 at her residence. She was born Jan. 22, 1927 to Clyde and Lucy Mayfield Harbison. She was a homemaker, a member of New Union Missionary Baptist Church, post and district treasurer for the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Eastern Star and the 91 Homemakers of Cullman County.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emile Jacob "Buddy" Heer; and a son, Emile Jacob Heer Jr.

Survivors include a son, Obye (Kathy) Heer of Alabaster; a daughter, Barbara (Butch) Fertig of Upper St. Clair, Pa.; a sister, Betty Bentley of Forestdale; and three grandchildren, Sabrina, Stacy and April.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

Robert Charles 'Bob' Johnson Sr.

Memorial services for Robert Charles "Bob" Johnson Sr., 61, of Cullman will be held in Florida in a private ceremony.

Johns-Ridout's Southside Chapel is notifying.

Mr. Johnson died Sunday, June 29. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was the manager and owner of Johnson Electric Motor Co.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Shirley Johnson; a son, Robert (Patricia) Johnson Jr. of Cullman; a daughter, Nena (Michael) Locascio of Harpersville; two grandchildren, Kramer Johnson and Jessica Johnson; and two brothers, Don (Jane) Johnson of San Antonio, Texas and Jim (Jo Ann) Johnson of Midwest City, Okla.

Ezma Marie Perkins Oden

Funeral services for Ezma Marie Perkins Oden, 78, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 4, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Jerry Hackney and Larry Nail officiating, with Burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Oden died Wednesday, July 2 at her residence. She was born Aug. 10, 1924 in Marshall County to T.S. and Vida E. Burks Perkins. She was a supervisor for Golden Rod Hatchery and a member of the Cullman County Saddle Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin V. Oden; three sisters; and a brother.

Survivors include a son, Gerry D. (Brenda) Oden of HOlly Pond; a daughter, Dian O. (Gil) Rauch of Cullman; a sister, Thelma (Roland) Pare of Lincoln, R.I.; two grandchildren, Barry D. (Sabine) Woods of Vinemont and Heather O. (Bryan) Harper of Cullman; five stepgrandchildren, Terri Ann Budweg of Cullman, Kim (Mike) Bates of Shreveport, La., Michael (Connie) Rauch, Donna Mann and Kathy (Jeremy) Kelley, all of Vinemont; three great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charles H. Herfurth

Funeral services for Charles H. Herfurth, 80, of Vinemont will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 4, 2003 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fr. Kevin McGrath officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Herfurth died Wednesday, July 2 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born Nov. 17, 1922 to Adolph Henry and Freida Leigeber Herfurth. He was a commercial airline pilot.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Herfurth; two sisters, Mable Henke and Evelyn Tekulve; and his parents.

Survivors include a son, Charles A. (Dianne) Herfurth of Vinemont; a brother, Clifford A. Herfurth of Cullman; two grandchildren, Jason (Robie) Herfurth and Trent (Babs) Herfurth; four great-grandchildren, Dalton Lane Herfurth, Charles Hunter, Levi Herfurth and Cole Andrew Herfurth; three step-great-grandchildren, Christy Yarbrough, Joey Duncan and Zack Duncan; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren, Luke and Owen Yarbrough.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Sacred Heart Monastery, Hospice of Cullman or Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, with rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Ethel Sellers Lambert

Funeral services for Ethel Sellers Lambert, 82, of Falkville will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Peck Funeral Chapel.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lambert died Wednesday, July 2 at Hartselle Medical Center.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Patsy Jo Bagwell

Funeral services for Patsy Jo Bagwell, 53, of Falkville will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Raymond Brown and Jerry Freeman officiating, with Burial in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bagwell died Thursday, July 3 at Decatur General Hospital. She was born July 26, 1949 in Morgan County. She worked for Ms. Shannon's Day Care and was a member of Bell Springs Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Howard D. Moore.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Ray Bagwell of Falkville; her mother, Mary Nelson Moore; two sons, Chris Bagwell and Nick Bagwell of Cullman; a daughter, Ashley Bagwell of Cullman; a brother, Ronald Gene Moore of Florida; and two sisters, Sanda Moore Hudgins and Diana Moore Hargrove of Morgan County.

Pallbearers will be Eugene Puckett, Carl Willis, Frankie Willis, James Bagwell, Ronald Bagwell and Vandon Brown.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

R.B. Brock

Funeral services for R.B. Brock, 80, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Gerald Harper officiating, with Burial in Mt. Carmel Methodist Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brock died Thursday, July 3 at his residence. He was born April 14, 1923 in Cullman to Arthur D. and Mary Pearl Hall Brock. He was a truck driver retired from Roadway and a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jewell Weaver Brock of Cullman; four sons, Lewayne (Rhonda) Brock, David (Charlene) Brock and Richard (Penny) Brock, all of Cullman, and Larry (Marci) Brock of Panama City, Fla.; a daughter, Sandy (Gerald) Harper of Garden City; a brother, P.E. Brock of Cullman; a sister, Estelle James of Cullman; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

James R. Legg

Graveside services for James R. Legg, 84, of Jasper will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Welti Cemetery, Dink Lambert officiating.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Legg died Thursday, July 3 at Ridgeview Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 1, 1919 to Griffin and Margaret Mann Grace. He worked at Fairway Golf Bag Plant.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Nell Brooks Legg; two sons, Albert Reno Legg of Jasper and Paul (Shawn) Legg of Margate, Fla.; a daughter, Becky (Vince) Tentoni of Northport; four sisters, Nell White of Holly Pond, Jackie Adams of Gardendale, Florene Legg of Cullman and Reba Shackelford of Mobile; three grandchildren, David Brian (Laura) Bennett of Cullman, Jason Shane Bennett of Little Rock, Ark. and Benjamin Reno Legg of Margate, Fla.; two stepgrandsons, Brad and James of Margate, Fla.; and one stepgreat-grandson, Nathan of Cullman.

Visitation wil be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Mildred Tankersley Hacker

Funeral services for Mildred Tankersley Hacker, 90, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, Dr. Bill Burkett officiating, with Burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hacker died Wednesday, July 2 at Woodland Village Health Care. She was born Jan. 23, 1913 to George and Delia Reio Tankersley. She was a bookkeeper for Buchmann Tire and worked as a clerk at the Cullman County Courthouse in her early years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry J. Hacker; and a brother, Wallace Tankersley.

Survivors include a sister, Pansy T. Scroggins of Montgomery; two nephews, Eddie (Kathy) Hacker of Cullman and Ed Tankersley; a niece, Suzie (Dale) Baylett of Marietta, Ga.; two great-nieces, Amy and Molly Hacker; and a great-nephew, J.J. Hacker.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Ethel Sellers Lambert

Funeral services for Ethel Sellers Lambert, 82, of Falkville will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Peck Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Chuck Smith officiating, with Burial in New Hope North Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lambert died Wednesday, July 2 at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born April 3, 1921 in Cullman County to Larry Layfette Roberts and Dena Fines. She was a member of First Faith Church in Falkville.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a son, Wayne Sellers of Falkville; a daughter, Imodene Pointinger of Toledo, Ohio; a sister, Mildred Jeffers of Hartselle; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Billy Bryan, Jason Roberts, Mark Roberts, Ken Jones, Bennie Weaver and Harlan Thompson.

Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Dan Bennefield

Funeral services for Dan Bennefield, 76, of Baileyton will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 4, 2003 at Arab Memorial Chapel, with Burial in Welcome Cemetery.

Arab Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bennefield died Wednesday, July 2 at Woodland Village Nursing Home. He was born Feb. 6, 1927 in Cullman County. He was a retired poultry farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Bennefield of Baileyton; a son, Tim (Debbie) Bennefield of Baileyton; four daughters, Connie (Walter) Bolzle of Fairview, Carolyn (Jerry) Hendrix of West Point, Linda Golden of Baileyton and Lisa Massey of Holly Pond; 11 grandchildren, David and Jessica Golden, Stacy and Ken Etheridge, Reece Bolzle, Dustin Thornton, Seth Thornton, Jonathan Mack, Kyle Bennefield, Jonna Massey and Chase Massey; and five great-grandchildren, Miranda Golden, Chelsey Golden, Sidney Turnage, Hunter Etheridge and Haley Etheridge.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County.
