KENNETH LYVERT BOTHWELL

ASHVILLE — Funeral service for Kenneth Lyvert Bothwell, 41, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Greater Grace Church with Bishop Terry Jones officiating. Burial will be in Ashville Cemetery.

Mr. Bothwell died Dec. 10 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

He is survived by his parents, Frank and Coylee Bothwell of Ashville; one son, Rayshun Bothwell of Ocala, Fla.; two daughters, Breauna Bothwell of Ashville and Doneshia Bothwell of Odenville; two sisters, Phyllis Horn and Janice Taylor of Homestead, Fla.; eight brothers, Cedric Bothwell, Tim Bothwell, Marlon Bothwell and Lawrence Evans of Ashville, Anthony Bothwell of San Diego, Calif., Kelvin Bothwell of Gadsden, Chris Bothwell of Atlanta, Ga., and Gregory Bothwell of Ocala, Fla.; one grandchild; and a host of other relatives.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Sims Funeral Service will direct the service.

ANNIE MAE S. CASTLEBERRY

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Annie Mae S. Castleberry, 80, of 212 Savory St., will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church with the Rev. Horace L. Patterson Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Castleberry died Dec. 9 at Citizens BMC. She was a member of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Missionary Society and the Willing Workers Club. She was a former employee of Beck's Cafe. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Castleberry; her father, Hosey Smiley; her mother, Mary Lois Williams; a daughter, Rosa Lee McKenzie; a sister, Nellie Braxton; and brothers, James W. Smiley and Charles Smiley.

She is survived by daughters, Barbara Castleberry, Joyce Castleberry and Creedell Castleberry of Brooklyn, N.Y., Willie P. Curry and Doris Curry of Talladega and Brenda Rhodes of Nashville; sons, William Castleberry of Munford, Maurice Castleberry and LaMar Castleberry of Talladega and Ralph Castleberry of Nashville, Tenn.; 33 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Willie D. Scott, Edward C. Scott, Paul Scott, Johnny Millender, John Millender, Kenny Millender and George Millender.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wilby Wallace, Hal Wallace, Deitric Chatman, Joseph Burt, Walter Moore, Johnny Clark and Archie Kidd.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

CLEVELAND GARRETT

ALPINE — Funeral service for Cleveland Garrett, 82, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Kingston Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Cornelius W. Brown III officiating. Burial will be in Kinston Church Cemetery.

Mr. Garrett died Dec. 9 at his residence. He was a member of Kingston Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and later chairman of the Deacon Board. He was a member of Costella Lodge No. 246, Coosa Valley Royal Arch Chapter No. 14. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zack and Emma Line Garrett; four sisters, Mary Fomby, Elizabeth Garrett, Lauretta Duncan and Ruth Twymon; and two brothers, Jamie L. Garrett and William Keith.

He is survived by his wife, Beulah B. Garrett of Alpine; three sons, Frank Morris and Billy G. Garrett of Alpine and Cleveland Garrett Jr. of Talladega; six daughters, Maggie Garrett of Alpine, Linda Hardy of Buffalo, N.Y., Ella Calhoun of Alpine, Dorothy Swain of Talladega and Mary Frances Garrett and Shirley Garrett of Alpine; two sisters, Charlotte Garrett and Essie Jones of Alpine; 28 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Masonic Brothers will serve as pallbearers.

Deacons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Eastern Star sisters will serve as flowerbearers.

Sims Funeral Service will direct the service.

MARY OLIVIA MITCHELL GARRETT

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Mary Olivia Mitchell Garrett, of 110 Long St., will be Saturday at noon at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church with the Rev. Horace L. Patterson Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.

Mrs. Garrett died Dec. 8. She was a member of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church where she was president of the Missionary Society and was a Sunday school teacher. She was "Mother of the Year" at Mt. Canaan in 1995 and was a volunteer at Samaritan House. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Garrett Sr.; and her parents, Cleveland Mitchell and Ollie Thomas Mitchell.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary A. Carter of Anderson, Ind., Deneen Draper of Talladega and Michele Cherry of Copperas Cove, Texas; one son, Roy Garrett Jr. of Talladega; two sisters, Clevie Mitchell of Akron, Ohio, and Lillian Scott of Potomac, Md.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Carter, Korey Carter, Juan Turner, Terrance Stamps, Kasey Garrett and Johnny Clark.

Honorary pallbearer will be Archie Wesley.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

C.C. CHAMPION

CHILDERSBURG — Funeral service for C.C. Champion, 82, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg chapel with the Rev. Sherrill Green officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Champion died Dec. 12 at Brookwood Medical Center. He was a member of Bon Air Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl Champion of Childersburg; one son, Thelbert Champion of Sylacauga; two daughters, Barbara Coleman and Bonita Lightsey of Sylacauga; one sister, Dorthy Boyles of Alabaster; five grandchildren, Lisa Bailey, Ray Coleman, Shane Champion, Colt Lightsey and Cassi Lightsey of Sylacauga; and two great-grandchildren, Jasmine Bailey and Jordan Bailey of Sylacauga.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.

BETTY LU EMBRY CODY

PELL CITY — Funeral service for Betty Lu Embry Cody, 87, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Father Mathew Brennan officiating. Burial will be in Seddon Cemetery.

Mrs. Cody died Dec. 11. She was preceded in death by her husband, James McDonald Cody; and two brothers, Crenshaw Embry and Justice Eric Embry. She was born July 19, 1915. She was a descendant of one of the area's prominent pioneer families. She was the great-granddaughter of Judge Leroy Box, a founding member of St. Clair County and one of its first judges. She was the granddaughter of James A. Embry of Ashville, county solicitor and an attorney in St. Clair County for more than 50 years.

The deceased was the daughter of Judge and Mrs. Frank Embry. Judge Embry was a former mayor of Pell City and a representative in the state Legislature. She was the sister of Justice Eric Embry, who served a number of years on Alabama's State Supreme Court. Her cousin, Judge Jim Embry Jr., was district judge of St. Clair County for a number of years. She was a founding member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and was a member of OLL Women's Club. She was an active member of her church and took an avid interest in her family and its St. Clair and Talladega roots.

She is survived by one son, James McDonald Cody Jr. and wife Glenda of Navarre, Fla.; two daughters, Isabella Cody Trussell and husband Bill of Pell City and Elizabeth Cody Payne and husband Bill of Navarre, Fla.; six grandchildren, Chris Cody, Shanon Cody Avis, Cecily Trussell Huffaker, Alan Trussell, Laura Payne and Frazier Payne; five great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Corinne Embry Vickers of Birmingham and Alden Embry of Birmingham.

Visitation will be held Friday from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home and a wake will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Chris Cody, Alan Trussell, Frazier Payne, Cousin Jimmy Goldstein and Friends Judge Charles Robinson and Will Layton.

Memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, P.O. Box 355, Pell City, Ala., 35125 or Seddon Cemetery Association, Attention: Evelyn Watson, 440 Lee Circle, Cropwell, Ala., 35054.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

RHONDA T. DUVALL

CALERA — Rhonda T. Duvall, 49, died Dec. 11 at her residence.

She is survived by one brother, Virgil James Taylor of Louisiana.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will handle the arrangements.

CORINE ESTELL

TALLADEGA — Corine Estell, 85, of 300 Savory St., died Dec. 11 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary.

JAMES HESTER

BALTIMORE, Md. — Funeral service for James Hester, 57, of 1315 Gittings Ave., will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. David Benton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Hester died Dec. 6 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Hester and Bertha Garrett Hester; a sister, Charlie Mae Ealy; and a brother, Larry Hester. He served in the U.S. Marines and was employed as a sheet metal worker in the Baltimore School System.

He is survived by two sons, Warren Hester of Baltimore, Md., and Melvin Hester of Rome, Ga.; sisters, Alice Duncan, Patsy Curry, Bertha Chatman, Callie Hester, Addie Hester and Ora D. Simmons of Talladega, Marchell Duncan of Cleveland, Tenn., Mary Hester of Canton, Ohio, and Loretta Barclay of Baltimore, Md.; and brothers, Shenick Hester, Timothy Hester and Levi Hester of Talladega.

Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

WALTER EDWARD KIDD

VINCENT — Funeral service for Walter Edward Kidd, 53, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bakers Grove Baptist Church in Vincent with the Rev. Donald Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Kidd died Dec. 10.

He is survived by his wife, Lillie M. Kidd of Vincent; two daughters, Sonia Moore of Allen, Texas, and Tia Kidd of Birmingham; two sons, Corey Kidd of Birmingham and Ryan Dates of Vincent; his stepmother, Leola M. Kidd of Vincent; two brothers, David E. Kidd and Fredrick E. Kidd of Vincent; and three grandchildren.

Deacons of Bakers Grove Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.

Madden's Funeral Service will direct the service.

LINDA GAIL COLEMAN MITCHELL

CHILDERSBURG — Linda Gail Coleman Mitchell, of No. 5 Sunset Apartments, died Dec. 11 at Citizens BMC.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Community Funeral Home.

SADIE M. SWAIN

ALPINE — Sadie M. Swain, 88, died Dec. 11 at Coosa Valley BMC.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sims Funeral Service.

WILLIS WHATLEY JR.

TALLADEGA — Willis Whatley Jr., 61, died Dec. 12 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Usrey Funeral Home.
