Robert D. Rodgers

Funeral services for Robert D. Rodgers, 57, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Moss Funeral Chapel, Clinton Shedd officiating, with Burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rodgers died July 23 at Woodland Village Health Care. He was born June 10, 1946, the son of Doyle Eugene and Addie Bea Walker Rodgers. He was a truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include two sons, Vince Rodgers and Ricky Rodgers, both of Cullman; two sisters, Pat Dye and Dean Thomas, both of Cullman; and 11 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Irona Guthery Nellis

Graveside services for Irona Guthery Nellis, 96, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Crane Hill, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003 at Cullman Memory Gardens, Quinton McCay officiating.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nellis died Tuesday, July 22 in Tampa. She was born in Cullman County on June 4, 1907 to William and Sarah Holloway Guthery. She was a secretary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Rolla Nellis.

Survivors include a brother, Aubrey Guthery of West Point; and a sister, Anne Guinn of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Herbert 'Cordell' Bell

Funeral services for Herbert "Cordell" Bell, 76, of Addison will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2003 at Sardis No. 2 Baptist Church, the Rev. John White officiating, with graveside Masonic rites at the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bell died Wednesday, July 23 at his residence. He was born Jan. 10, 1927 in Winston County to Wilburn and Meley Mattox Bell. He was a tank sealer for Hayes Aircraft and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elbert Bell; and a sister, Vetrel Segars.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Cruce Bell of Addison; two sons, Creig (Sandy) Bell of Double Springs and Shannon (Leigh Ann) Bell of Logan; two daughters, Rhonda (Gerald) Hayes of Addison and Sheila (John) White of Decatur; two sisters, Freda Rowell of Indiana and Jewell Dunkin of Cullman; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Thursday.

John Charles Kuykendall

Funeral services for John Charles Kuykendall, 72, of Arab will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Millard Mann officiating, with Burial in Simcoe Baptist Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kuykendall died Wednesday, July 23 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Nov. 27, 1930 in Cullman County to Newman C. and Henretta Patterson Kuykendall. He was a carpenter in construction.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include a special friend, Trudie; four sisters, Sadie Kibodeaux of Pensacola, Fla., Betty Swearingen of Deer Park, Texas, Carolyn (Bill) Chambers of Pearson, Fla. and Kathy (Robert) Broadrick of Portland, Tenn.; five nephews, Randy Stidham, Steve Dye, Tim Hudson, Mike Hudson and Kevin Chambers; and seven nieces, Diane Boyer, Debbie Yerks, Patty Pollard, Cindy Shelton, Pam Boettcher, Kay Hudson and Kimberly Cowart.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Andrew Arrington

Funeral services for Andrew Arrington, 85, of Douglas were Thursday, July 24, 2003 at Albertville Funeral Home, the Rev. Thurman Dennis and Elder Harold Browning officiating, with Burial in Douglas Cemetery.

Albertville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Arrington died Monday, July 21. He was born Jan. 22, 1918. He was retired from Poultry-By-Products. He was a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Arrington; two sons, Loyd (Norma) Arrington of Dothan and Alan (Sherry) Arrington of Rainbow City; four grandchildren, Andy (Darien) Arrington of Selma, Steve (Nora) Arrington of Cleveland, Noelle (Donny) Fowler of Dacula, Ga. and Brooke Arrington of Rainbow City; one great-grandchild, Chase Andrew Fowler of Dacula, Ga.; three brothers, Lawrence Arrington of Cullman, Olen Arrington of Holly Pond and Leroy Arrington of Fairview; and a sister, Agnes Burrow of Alabaster.

The family requests donations be made to Hospice of Marshall County.

Pallbearers were Troy Gunter, Hoyt Hester, David Neal, Anthony Stapler, Floyd Arrington and Waymon Brown.

Visitation was Wednesday.

Ulisse DelPiero

Ulisse DelPiero, 76, of Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of Cullman, died Thursday, July 24, 2003. A private Burial service will be held in Washington Park East Cemetery.

Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center of Indiana is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. DelPiero retired in 1980 after 30 years of service with the Detroit Police Department. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Ruth Sullivan DelPiero; five children, Gregory DelPiero, Timothy DelPiero, Jeanie Ross, Catherine Clancy and Lee Austin DelPiero; three stepchildren, Mary Ann Mifsuo, Terrence Taylor and Bridget Rochon; a sister, Mae Lewis; and a brother-in-law, Chester Lewis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Police Benevolent Association.

Don Clifton Winfrey

Funeral services for Don Clifton Winfrey, 73, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, with Burial in Livingston Tabernacle Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Winfrey died Tuesday, July 22 in Cullman. He was born in Little Rock, Ark. on March 2, 1930 to Robert Winfrey.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include three daughters, Daffney Miller of Fairview, Deborah Moralis of Connecticut and Donna Swanson of New Hampshire; four sons, Randy Winfrey and Robert Winfrey, both of New Hampshire, Roman Winfrey of Hanceville and Ronald Winfrey of Vinemont; four sisters, Winnie Ballard of Vance, Linda Helms of Garden City, Elaine Pitts of Johnson Crossing and Flossie Stricklin of Ufalla; two brothers, Leroy Winfrey of Hanceville and Rodger Winfrey of Cullman; and an ex-wife, Jean Winfrey.

Visitation was Friday.

Betty C. Godsey Holmes

Funeral services for Betty C. Godsey Holmes, 64, of Falkville will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2003 at First Baptist Church of Falkville, Jack Lovelace and Paul Holmes officiating, with Burial in Falkville City Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Holmes died Friday, July 25 at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born March 22, 1939 in Franklin County to Marshall Marvin and Stella Nix Godsey. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Falkville.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Godsey and Jack Godsey; and a grandson, Aaron David Holmes.

Survivors include her husband, David E. "Gene" Holmes of Falkville; two daughters, Tonya (David) Prater of Daphne and Tammie (Tony) Holmes of Falkville; three brothers, Hoyt Godsey and Max Godsey, both of Birmingham and John Godsey of Hartselle; two sisters, Dorothy Rigsby and Mary Burfield, both of Birmingham; and three grandchildren, Savanah Jade Holmes, David Austin Prater and Cade Davis Holmes.

Pallbearers will be her brothers and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Carol Joy Pope

Funeral services for Carol Joy Pope, 62, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2003 at Moss Service Chapel, Dudley Brock officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pope died Saturday, July 26 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Alabama on Nov 5, 1940 to Wilmer Shelton and Ruby Dee Turner Smith. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her hsuband, Jack Pope; daughter, Cindy Cooper; two sisters, Jerri Smath of Cullman, Patsy Jones of Pell City; three brothers, Byron, Randy and Vick Smith, all of Cullman; and two grandchildren, Patrick Wilkins and Crystal Wilkins.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Wilkins, Vick Smith, Byron Smith, Whit Smith, Shane Smith, Lawrence Cooper.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today.

Doil Oree Yates

Graveside services for Doil Oree Yates, 72, were held Saturday, July 26, 2003 at Enon Cemetery, Lonnie Collins officiating.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Yates died Friday, July 25 at his residence. He was born in Cullman County on March 29, 1931 to James Harliss and Avy Eugenie Holmes Yates. He was a retired auto mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Shirley Gayle Vandiver, Mary Sue Yates; sons, Dewey Wayne Yates, Dannie Yates; and sisters, Dorothy Inez Fleischamel and Evelyn Wynell Hardin.

Survivors include his ex-wife, Laura Collins Shedd of Cullman; two sons, Doil O'Neal (Jeanie) Yates of Vinemont, Timmy Wayne Yates of Cullman; two daughters, Rachel Annette (Steve) Gulley, Patricia Ann (Ronald) Gulley, both of Cullman; three sisters, Delores Jean (Sherman) Durham of Huntsville, Patsy Juanita (Thomas) Hale of Vinemont, Willidean Fayteen Yates of Cullman; and five grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Life Care Hospice.

Bertha Carolyn Dahlke Coursey

Funeral services for Bertha Carolyn Dahlke Coursey, 92, of Birmingham are at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2003 at the First Lutheran Church of Birmingham, the Rev. Kurt Schultz officiating, with Burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Bell Funeral Home of Forestdale is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Coursey died Saturday, July 26 at Baptist Medical Center Princeton.

She was preceded in death by five brothers; five sisters; and her husband, Sampson Coursey.

Survivors include nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Gary Randal 'Randy' Hancock

Graveside services for Gary Randal "Randy" Hancock, 51, of Trussville, are at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2003 at JMG East Cemetery, Rick Lance and the Rev. Larry Lamb officiating.

Jefferson Memorial of Trussville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hancock died Thursday, July 24. He was a one-time owner of the Log Cabin Country Convience Store on Hwy. 11. He was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Barbara Hancock; a daughter, Alisha (Corey) Fuhrman of Rainbow City; two sons, Danny Hancock and Nathan Hancock; his parents, Frank and Dorothy Hancock; four sisters, Pam Bryant, Patti Elliott, Vicki Shaw and Holly McLeod; a brother, Greg Hancock; and three grandchildren, Andrew, Sarah and Elizabeth Fuhrman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the family of Mr. Hancock for Barbara and Nathan Hancock.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Cecil W. Cook

Funeral services for Cecil W. Cook, 87, of Arley, are at 1 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2003 at Nichols Funeral Home Chapel in Addison, Ronald Gilliland officiating, with Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Arley.

He is survived by his wife, Minnie Cook of Arley; two sons, Robert Cook and Bobby Jack Cook, both of Arley; two daughters, Jane Breed and Penny Pilgram of Jasper; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Benny Cook of Jasper; three sisters, Evelyn Wilkerson of Hollywood, Fla., Inez Gilliland of Arley and Hazel Walker of Arley.

Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Robert Joe Hitt, 66, of Hanceville, are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at Mt. Grove Baptist Church, the Revs. Mark Long and Jimmy Scott officiating, with Burial in Mt. Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Hitt died Monday, July 28 at his residence. He was born in Blount County on Jan. 19, 1937 to Hobert and Elsie Hitt. He was a carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Eugene James Hitt.

Survivors include his wife, Othelia Hitt of Hanceville; two daughters, Rita (Ronnie Abbott of Hanceville and Joyce Shelton of Cullman; four sons, Bobby Hitt, Buddy (Glinda) Hitt and Phillip (Tabitha) Hitt, all of Hanceville, and Michael (Betty) Hitt of Birmingham; two sisters, Syble (Arlis) Fortner of Holly Pond and Helen New of Blountsville; and a brother, Billy (Peggy) Hitt of Pell City.

Visitation was Monday.
