Sister Genevieve Sachse

Funeral services for Sister Genevieve Sachse, 67, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003 at Sacred Heart Monastery, Father Matt Torpey officiating, with Burial in Sacred Heart Monastery Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Sachse died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003 at Sacred Heart Monastery. She was born Aug. 4, 1936 to Raymond and Genevieve Reuter Sachse.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her sister, Rae (Bob) DuFore; three nieces, Terri DuFore, Sue Dufore and Val Dubois; two cousins, Bill and Marge Kepplinger.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Monastery.

Birtie L. Smith

Funeral services for Birtie L. Smith, 93, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Waylon Thrasher and Larry Brown officiating, with Burial in Pleasant Grove Baptist Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Sept. 7 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born Oct. 5, 1909 in Winder, Ga., the daughter of Jim and Ella Cronic. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Homer Smith; a son, Homer Lee Smith; a daughter, Tishie Harris; a brother, Cliff Cronic; a sister, Jessie Mae Spivey; and sons-in-law Donald Coleman and Winford Harris.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Coleman and Gay Nell (Clarence) Hartwig, both of Cullman; a half-brother, Howell Cronic; 7 grandchildren; 4 stepgrandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and special friends Doris Harris and Linda Twilley.

Visitation was Monday.

Sarah Jean Denson

Funeral services for Sarah Jean Denson, 44, of Cullman are at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Tim Salors officiating, with Burial in Cullman Heritage Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Denson died Tuesday, Sept. 9 at Cullman Health Care Center. She was born May 3, 1959 in Fort Polk, La., to Clayton and Lala Self.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Survivors include her husband, Terry Lynn Denson of Cullman; a son, Nathan Denson of Cullman; a daughter, Jennifer (Jason) Manasco of Cordova; three brothers, John (Patty) Self, Raymond Self and Tommy Moody; and two grandchildren, Melody and Daisy Manasco.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

James Elvin Hill

Funeral services for James Elvin Hill, 44, of Lacey's Spring will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003 at Peck Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Charles Williams officiating, with Burial in New Friendship Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hill died Friday, Sept. 5 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born July 23, 1959 in Morgan County.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorene Callahan Hill.

Survivors include a son, Cody Anderson of Moulton; his father, Bube Hill of Eva; a sister, Jennifer Collier of Cullman; and a nephew, Dustin Smith.

Pallbearers will be Shane McCormick, Ronnie Reeves, Shane Beasley, Kenneth Eddy, Jimmy Reeves and Larry Collier.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Eugene C. 'E.C.' Moore Jr.

Funeral services for Eugene C. "E.C." Moore Jr., 63, of Bremen will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003 at Mt. Hope Baptist Church, Marvin Clemmons and Wayne Williams officiating, with Burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Kilgore-Green Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Moore died Monday, Sept. 8 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Mt. Hope Baptist Church and an employee of Drummond Coal Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Emily Moore; three sisters and one brother.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Earlene Williams Moore of Bremen; a son, Jeff Moore of Bremen; two daughters, Rhonda (Kenneth) Limbaugh of Bremen and Tammy (Doug) Calvert of Crane HIll; and five grandchildren, Alicia (Lance) Shuford, Ashia Sandlin, Kami Calvert, Kyle Calvert and Libby Moore.

Visitation is at 5 p.m. today.

Vernie Lee Segers

Funeral services for Vernie Lee Segers, 81, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Sherman Bailey officiating, with Burial in Duck River Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Segers died Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born in Cullman on Jan. 24, 1922 to Robert Lee and Hattie Lee Baney Tankersley Glenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leamon Segers.

Survivors include two sons, Lemon Jr. (Mary) Segers of Bremen and James (Sue) Segers of Hanceville; a brother, Roy Glenn of Cullman; seven sisters, Ruthie Burrow, Obera McKinney, Eva Phillips and Jean Wright, all of Cullman, Tressie Wright of Hanceville, Dean Young of Decatur and Patricia Abercrombie of Scottsboro; three grandchildren, Rick, David and Brian Segers; and four great-grandchildren, Mandy, Mallory, Taylor and Dawson Segers.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Patrick Henry Wilbanks

Funeral services for Patrick Henry Wilbanks, 81, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at Moss-Service Funeral Chapel, the Revs. Bob Alford and Bob Murray officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wilbanks died Thursday, Sept. 11 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 1, 1922 to Francis M. and Lilly Foshee Wilbanks. He was a painter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred Wilbanks; a brother, Jack Wilbanks; a stepbrother, Hollis Foshee; and two sisters, Frances Hand and Viva Wilbanks.

Survivors include a son, Donald M. (Lynelle) Wilbanks; two brothers, John Wilbanks and Robert Wilbanks; two grandchildren, Michael D. (Cory) Wilbanks and Donna L. Wilbanks; and a great-granddaughter, Meg Elizabeth Wilbanks.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Violet J. Gaither

Funeral services for Violet J. Gaither, 79, of Houston will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2003 at Moreland Church, Donny Gaither and Stanley Owensey officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gaither died Wednesday, Sept. 10 at her residence.

Survivors include five sons, Hollis (Regina) Gaither, Darrell (Shelia) Gaither, Donny (Anita) Gaither, Ricky (Delitha) Gaither and Tim (Susan) Gaither, all of Houston; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Gathel Carpenter.

Visitation was Thursday.

Melvin Waddles Bell

Funeral services for Melvin Bell, 59, of Aceworth, Ga., formerly of Cullman, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home in Ardmore, the Rev. Wade West officiating, with Burial in Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore.

Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bell died Wednesday, Sept. 10 at his residence in Aceworth, Ga. He was born Oct. 27, 1943 in Cullman to Junior and Opal Freeman Waddle.

He was preceded in death by his father; his adopted father, W.J. Bell; and two daughters, Judy and Amanda Bell.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Bell of Aceworth, Da.; his mother, Opal Forester of Hanceville; four sons, Mike (Tina) Bell of Cullman, David (Debbie) Bell of Oneonta, Dennis (Linda) Bell of Hanceville and Steve Bell of Blountsville; a daughter, Tracy (Larry) Williams of Culllman; eight grandchildren, Dylan and Derrick Bell, Leslie and Tammy Bell, Austin Bell, Jody and Cody Williams; three brothers, Carl "Buster" (Connie) Bell of Bremen, Billy (Mona) Bell of Murfreeboro, Tenn. and Allen (Annette) Bell of Blountsville; and four sisters, Shirley (Jimmy) McNutt and Janice (Charles) Sellers, both of Culllman, Linda (Wayne) Shoemaker of Holly Pond and Shela (Willard) Drummond of Bremen.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy McNutt, Wayne Shoemaker, Charles Sellers, Randy Colwell, Phillip Claunch and Damian Wiening.

Visitation will be at noon today.

Esther Annie Jennings

Funeral services for Esther Annie Jennings, 87, of Vinemont will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Warren Ruland, Harold Hermetz and Joe Miller officiating, with Burial in Flint Creek Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jennings died Friday, Sept. 12 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Nov. 26, 1915 in Jefferson County. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Kathrine Wolff Hartwig; her husband, L.D. Jennings; one great-grandson, Ian Waldon; seven brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include five sons, James Jennings, Charles (Linda) Jennings, Allen Jennings, Marlin (Brenda) Jennings and Larry Jennings; two daughters, Emma Walker and Kathryn (Terry) Rushing; three brothers, Alvin Hartwig, Carl Hartwig and Clarence Hartwig; two sisters, Lena Henry and Caroline Hartwig; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Nelda June Speegle

Funeral services for Nelda June Speegle, 74, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003 at St. Andrews First United Methodist Church, the Revs. Marcus Long and Chuck Canterbury officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Speegle died Friday, Sept. 12 at her residence. She was born May 15, 1929 to Joseph and Jodie Butler Drake. She was retired from the county school system. She was a lifetime member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Association. She was also a member of the Alabama Emmaus community and a graduate of Disciple Bible Studies One and Two.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Kenneth Speegle.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth Martin Jr. (Jeannie C.) Speegle of Cullman; two daughters, Jannie Speegle Ratliff of Cullman and Jeannie Speegle (Kenneth L.) Cobb of Birmingham; two brothers, Hoyt (Ethel) Drake and Wilbur (Ruby) Drake, both of Cullman; a sister, Mae Barronton of Cullman; and eight grandchildren, Starr Barnes, Rachael Ratliff, James Worth Ratliff II, Lesle Nicole Speegle, Perry Lynn Speegle, Elizabeth Mason Cobb, Kenneth Long Cobb Jr. and Charles Luke Cobb.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Andrews building fund, the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Pallbearers will be Lionel Butler, Billy Coleman, Greg Wrenn, Greg Copeland, Jim Cleghorn, Ron Morrow, Terry Bontrager and Bill s.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Olma M. Gammon

Funeral services for Olma M. Gammon, 96, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, Josh Craft officiating, with Burial in Union Hill Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gammon died Thursday, Sept. 11 in Hanceville. She was born in Alabama on March 13, 1907 to Charles and Laura Edwards Moody.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Bill Gammon.

Survivors include two brothers, Curtis (Sam) Moody of Hanceville and E.C. Moody; and two sisters, Gracie Moody and Eula Teasdale.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Union Hill Cemetery fund.

Visitation was Friday.

LaVina Mae Powell Hulse

Funeral services for LaVina Mae Powell Hulse, 73, of Decatur will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Rev. Cheryl Wagar and Jamie Hooper officiating, with Burial in Center Hill Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hulse died Thursday, Sept. 11 at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Jan. 21, 1930 in Morgan County to John David and Nancy Smith Powell. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a son, James David Grigsby of Moulton; three daughters, Bette Steele of Decatur, Brenda Yocom of Hartselle and Susan Chapman of Addison; two sisters, Frances Odell Hearst and Veleara Lindsey, both of Donighan, Mo.; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
