William 'Pete' Copeland

Funeral services for William "Pete" Copeland, 98, of Blountsville are at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at Blountsville Funeral Home Chapel, Javon Daniel officiating, with Burial in Blountsville Cemetery.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Copeland died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at Beverly Healthcare in Oneonta. He was born in Blount County to Luther and Emmie Martin Copeland. He was a retired police chief of the city of Blountsville. He was a member of Blountsville Baptist Church and of Fraternity Lodge No. 145 of Blountsville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Garren Copeland; a grandson, Rex Copeland; and his parents.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy (Emilea) Copeland of Rainbow City and Benny (Susan) Copeland of Meridian, Miss.; two grandchildren, Josh Copeland and Renee Copeland Bard; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today and 8:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Vonda Lee Grimmett

Funeral services for Vonda Lee Grimmett, 86, of Cullman were Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at Kinney Grove Baptist Church, the Revs. Wayne Williams, Dillon Calvert and Dan Anderson officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Grimmett died Friday, Oct. 10 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Cullman County April 27, 1917 to Phander and Nannie Dollar Graves. She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of Kinney Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Eskell Grimmett; and her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Elwin (Linda) Grimmett of Cullman; Edward Grimmitt of Bremen; a brother, Durehl Grimmett of Sylacauga; three sisters, Helen Dahlke of Smyrna, Ga., Elene Addison of Bremen and Jenelle Sullivan of Gadsden; three grandsons, Sidney Grimmett, Bryan Grimmett and Jason Grimmett, all of Cullman; three granddaughters, Angla Mller of Logan, West Va., Tina Lindsey of Vinemont and Cindy Grimmitt McCollum of Cullman; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Sunday.

Mary V. Martin

Funeral services for Mary V. Martin, 93, of Cullman were Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Rev. Lee Warren officiating, with Burial in Sulphur Springs Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Martin died Saturday, Oct. 11 in Garden City. She was born on March 30, 1910 in Tifton, Ga. She was a minister.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Ambrose and Lucy Lipps Spurlock; her husband, Merritt Embert Martin; three brothers; and five sisters.

Survivors include a son, Myron Sidney Martin of Valrico, Fla.; a daughter, Sarah Martin (Mickey) Arant of Cullman; three grandchildren, Paula (Alan) Vint of Valrico, Fla. and Paige and Lauren Arant of Cullman; two great-grandchildren, Seth and Nathan Vint of Valrico, Fla.; and special caregiver, Roberta Grant of Garden City.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County or to Gideons Bible Memorials.

Visitation was Monday.

Altie Wise Duke

Funeral services for Altie Wise Duke, 93, of the Welti community will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003 at Oak Level Baptist Church, the Rev. Dan Deliz officiating, with Burial in the Oak Level Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Duke died Saturday, Oct. 11 at her residence. She was born Jan. 10, 1910 in Cullman County to William F. and Liza Ellen Armstrong Wise. She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Level Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Clifford Duke; a son, Harvey "Buddy" Duke; three grandchildren; three brothers, Earnest Wise, Emery Wise and Needom Wallace; four sisters, Cindy Cook, Mytle Hogan, Birdie Collier and Sally Wise; and three grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Willie (Sara) Duke of Cullman; two daughters, Geraldine (Thomas) Freeman and Ellen Drummond, both of Cullman; and 12 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to noon today.

Kenneth Douglas Mobley

Funeral services for Kenneth Douglas Mobley, 61, of Jasper will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, Etsell Riddle officiating, with Burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mobley died Saturday, Oct. 11 in Crossville, Tenn. He was born Nov. 9, 1941 in Alabama to J.C. and Lillian Foust Mobley. He was a self-employed artist.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Mobley; a daughter, Kristi (Paul) Pepper; two sons, Kenneth Wayne Mobley and Kevin (Julie) Mobley; his mother; a brother, Samuel Adair Mobley; a sister, Delean Williams; and four grandchildren, Cody Mobley, Megan Pepper, Mackenzie Pepper and Allison Mobley.

Visitation was Monday.

Essie Pearl Brown

Funeral services for Essie Pearl Brown, 95, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Scott Pattillo officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Brown died Saturday, Oct. 11 at Woodland Village Health Care. She was born Feb. 2, 1908 in Alabama to Will and Eliza McManus Levens. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include four sons, Doyle (Vera) Brown, Wayne (Jeanne) Brown, Ronnie (Ann) Brown and Frankie (Martha) Brown; a sister, Eva Harvell; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday.

Dessie Verna Maddox

Funeral services for Dessie Verna Maddox, 90, of Addison will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Nesmith, Pastors Terry Phillips and Ray Bridgeman officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Maddox died Sunday, Oct. 12 at Huntsville Hospital. She was born in Winston County on Dec. 11, 1912 to Josie and Joseph Payne. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; eight siblings; a daughter, Jeraldean Maddox (age 17); a son, Jimmy Maddox (age 29); and a granddaughter, Meagan Dean Harris (age 24).

Survivors include two daughters, Shirlie Jean Winfrey of Huntsville and Eulene Langley of Birmingham; two grandsons, Sebie Winfrey of Huntsville and Patrick Millican of McAlester, Okla.; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Wilma Jean Bowden

Graveside services for Wilma Jean Bowden, 69, of Montgomery were held Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at Pine Level United Methodist Church Cemetery, Ricky Connor officiating.

Ellison Funeral Home of Wetumpka was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bowden died Sunday, Oct. 5 at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bowden.

Survivors include a daughter, Anita (James) Trussell of Pinson; a stepdaughter, Susan Hammock of Wetumpka; a stepson, Chuck Bowden of Opelika; a sister, Glenda Sue Holmes of Cullman; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday.

Joan Marie Neal

Funeral services for Joan Marie Neal, 67, of Holly Pond, are at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003 at Holly Pond Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Kenneth Terry officiating, with Burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Mrs. Neal died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born July 12, 1936 in Koochiching, Minn. to Al and Louise Martin Holt. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Andy Neal; and a sister, Yvonne Holt.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff (Judy) Ellis and Corey (Lisa) Neal, both of Cullman; a daughter, Frankie (David) Calahan of Holly Pond; a brother, David (Linda) Holt of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Heather (Will) Stepehens, James Ellis, Jacob Neal, Julia Neal and Amelia Johnson; a great-grandmother, Trinity Stephens; and her step-mother, Eunice Holt of International Fall, Minn.

Visitation 6 to 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.

Calvin Doyse Rhodes

Funeral services for Calvin Doyse Rhodes, 70, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, the Revs. Jerry Freeman and Raymond Brown Jr. officiating, with Burial in Bethsadia Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rhodes died Monday, Oct. 13 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born March 22, 1933 to Lester and Lulie Campbell Rhodes. He was a drywall contractor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Larry Rhodes.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Lay Rhodes of Cullman; a stepson, Michael Woods of Florida; three daughters, Sharlotte (Alan) Oliver of Cullman, Joyce Rodriguez of California and Candi Harbin; a brother, Doyle Rhodes of Michigan; a sister, Wetelka Mayer of Michigan; and a grandson, Brandon M.C. Oliver.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Hue Gene L. Adams

Funeral services for Hue Gene L. Adams, 75, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003 at Faith Baptist Church, Randy Makemson officiating, with Burial in Vinemont First Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Adams died Monday, Oct. 13 at Medical Center East. He was born July 26, 1928 to Crozier and Catherine Skipper Adams. He was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Roy, Z.C. and Frazier Adams; two sisters, Myrtie Oden and Carlue Thompson; and a grandson, Walter Neal Adams.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Goodwin Adams; two sons, Alan (Jan) Adams and Norman Adams; three brothers, Elmer Adams, Lawton Adams and Timothy Adams; a sister, Leonia Pesnell; and two grandchildren, Tara Adams and Casey Adams.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today.

Sheila Mae Champion

Graveside services for Sheila Mae Champion, 46, of Albertville will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003 at Crossroads Cemetery, the Rev. Jerry Fleming officiating.

Mrs. Champion died Monday, Oct. 13 at Marshall Medical Center. She was born May 3, 1957 in Cullman.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred Allred Blackwood.

Survivors include her father, Auston Blackwood; two sons, Jason Champion of Albertville and Daniel Champion of Guntersville; a granddaughter, Natalie Champion of Albertville; two brothers, Rodger Blackwood of Cucamonga, Calif. and Mark Blackwood of West Point; and three sisters, Sherion Speegle and Carolyn Blackwood, both of Decatur, and Julie Davis of West Point.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. today.

Margaret Magoline Smith

Funeral services for Margaret Magoline Smith, 77, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003 at Berlin Baptist Church, Lynn Perkins officiating, with Burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Smith died Monday, Oct. 13 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 4, 1926 in Cullman County to Elbert Arthur and Ella Beatrice Morgan Chandler. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orvil Lee Smith; six brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include a son, Frank (Joan) Smith of Cullman; two daughters, Joan (Mike) Smith of Cullman and Paula (Larry) Bolzle of Decatur; two brothers, Worth Chandler and Doice Chandler, both of Cullman; six grandchildren, Beth Sellers, Brent (Amy) Smith, Morgan Bolzle, Greg Bolzle, Mandy Smith and Lori (Kent) Waters; and two great-grandchildren, Kolton Sellers and Kyle Sellers.

Visitation was Tuesday.
