Servics for Durant Forrest Calvert, 79, of Curry will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home in Jasper, the Revs. John Gates and Jerrell Rogers officiating, with Burial in Curry Cemetery.

Kilgore-Green Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He died Dec. 24 at Baptist Medical Center Princeton. He was a decorated World War II veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley L. and Fannie Harbison Calvert; a brother, Ferrell Calvert; and two sisters, Marie Motes and Vedmer Myers.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nora Lee Steele Calvert; six children, Peggy (Scotty) Elmore of Arley, Patsy (Rick) Brown of Jasper, Sherywon (Elaine) Calvert of Gulf Shores, and Santha (Dale) Freeman, Debbie (Chuck) Elliott and Shannon (Derinda) Calvert, all of Curry; 14 grandchildren, Shellene (Melissa) Elmore, Jason (Kendra) Brown, Brad Elmore, Paige (Kenneth) Gunter, Jill Brown, Brett Calvert, Beth Calvert, Brooke (Jeremy) Sawyer, Justin Elliott, Ryan Elliott, Andrew Freeman, Roman Calvert, Carson Calvert and Natalee Calvert; six great-grandchildren, Madison Elmore, Kori Lee Gunter, Annalise Calvert, Juliana Elmore, Parker Sawyer and Jenna Brown; a sister, Bernice Gossett of Curry.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Grace A. Pilgrim

Graveside services for Grace A. PIlgrim, 82, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Arley Congregational Church Cemetery, Robert Partridge and J.W. Hicks officiating.

Kilgore-Green Fuenral Home of Jasper is in charge of arrangements.

She died Dec. 25 at her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude William PIlgrim; a daughter, Tempie Sue Pilgrim; parents, Robert F. and Dora Sue Tubbs Lollar; a brother, Boyd Lollar; and two sisters, Lovie Ann Bailey and Nell Dean Davidson.

Survivors include seven children, JoAnn Elmer of Jasper, William (Cathy) Pilgrim, Ray Pilgrim and Jerry Pilgrim, all of Cullman, Wayne (Debbie) Pilgrim of Good Hope, Kathy (Ronny) McEwen of Vinemont, and Perry (Pam) Pilgrim of Addison; four sisters, Lucille Minor of Nashville, Imogene Aaron and Katherine (Grady) Key of Jasper, and Elizabeth Blanton of Oakman; two brothers, James V. (Faye) Lollar of Oakman and Bobby (Linda) Lollar of Mobile; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Janie Elizabeth Black Owens

Funeral services for Janie Elizabeth Black Owens, 86, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Rayburn Jones officiating, with Burial in Duck River Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Owen died Tuesday, Dec. 23, at her residence. She was born July 20, 1917, in Cullman County to James Alexander and Lula Martin Stisher Moore. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Curtis Black; and a son, James Tarvin.

Survivors include a daughter, Sarah (Manuel) Brown of Cullman; a brother, Luther Moore of Cullman; three grandchildren, Terry (Sandy) Brown of Jasper, Deborah (Harold) Townsend of Vinemont and Donna (Cory) Freeman of Cullman; and six great-grandchildren, Brittney Townsend, Kendall Brown, Devon Brown, Chandler Brown, Ashley Freeman and Jordan Freeman.

Visitation was Friday.

Albert Mayhall

Funeral services for retired Staff Sgt. Albert Mayhall, 71, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Holly Pond Funeral Chapel, Dale Pettit giving eulogy, with Burial in Center Hill Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sgt. Mayhall died Tuesday, Dec. 16, at his residence. He was born Oct. 24, 1932, in Cullman County to William Harrison and Vergie Olive Oden Mayhall. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church. He was retired from the U.S. Army, having served in Vietnam. He received a combat infantry badge, the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the National Defense Service Medal and four OS bars.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ann Smith Mayhall of Cullman; three sons, J.J. Mayhall of Illinois, Rex Mayhall of Jasper and James Robert (Julie) Giles of Hartselle; four daughters, Julia (Wade) Stanley and Jo (Rickey) Kreps, both of Cullman, Sharon (Wayne) Schackelford of Pulaski, Tenn. and Vickie (Dale) Pettit of Garden City; four sisters, Ruth Junkins, Opal Fowler, Freda Brooks and Mary Eubanks; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Rickey Kreps, John Kraft, Chris Phillips, Bob Giles, Jay Kraft, Wayne Schackelford, Clay Glasscock and Johnny King.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Charles Noah Griffin

Funeral services for Charles Noah Griffin, 75, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28. 2003, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Rev. Ralph McGowin officiating, with Burial in New Hope No. 2 Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Griffin died Wednesday, Dec. 24, at his residence. He was born Nov. 11, 1928, in Vernon to Andrew Jackson and Lovie Griffin. He was a supervisor for a steel refinery.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Eva Lucille Griffin.

Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Burnett of Falkville and Lucille (Gary) Hooper of Centre; three brothers; three sisters; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Billie Jean Payne

Funeral services for Billie Jean Payne, 72, of Cullman will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Rev. Paul Hicks and Jimmy Scott officiating, with Burial in Berlin Cemetery at Mt. Carmel.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Payne died Thursday, Dec. 25, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born July 9, 1931, in Cullman.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Richard Bentley; a son, Steve Payne; a brother, John D. Bentley; and a sister, Charlotte Graham.

Survivors include her mother, Maybelle Haynes Bentley of Hanceville; her husband, Brady Payne of Cullman; a son, Mike Payne of Cullman; a daughter-in-law, Donna Payne of Madison; a future daughter-in-law, Kimberly Blackmon of Cullman; two brothers, Bobby (Eunice) Bentley of Good Hope and Ray (Teri) Bentley of Cullman; two sisters, Dorothy (Jack) Haddock of Decatur and Joanne Abrams of Rome, Ga.; a granddaughter, Nicole Payne of Cullman; two future grandchildren, Matt Blackmon and Kendra Blackmon, both of Cullman; 10 nephews; and eight nieces.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

David Alvis Stancil

Funeral services for David Alvis Stancil, 55, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at Mt. Carmel Church, Gary McRae and Samuel Tucker officiating, with Burial in Berlin Cemetery at Mt. Carmel. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stancil died Thursday, Dec. 25, at Woodland Medical Center. He was born Aug. 15, 1948, in Blount County to George Belton and Beatrice Yates Stancil. He was a carpenter in residential construction.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Byron Stancil.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Keller Stancil; two sons, David Daine (Pamela) Stancil and David Belton (Amanda) Stancil; a daughter, Jane Lashell (Greg) Bryan; three daughters, James B. Stancil, Phillip D. Stancil and Huey E. Stancil; six sisters, Glenda Hardeman, Elaine Baker, Patricia Campbell, Nita Twilley, Karen Allbritton and Angie Marie Roberts, all of Cullman; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Willard Eugene James

Funeral services for Willard Eugene James, 66, of Arley will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Liberty Baptist Church, Patrick Cleghorn officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James died Thursday, Dec. 25, at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Geneva James.

Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Hacker of Athens and Toni Holderfield of Curry; a son, Byron James of Cullman; two sisters, Mary Bell of South Carolina and Dean Underwood of Curry; and seven grandchildren.

Grace A. Pilgrim

Melvin Elton Eubanks

Funeral services for Melvin Elton Eubanks, 74, of Hanceville, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at Moss-Service Chapel, Truman Davis and Kevin Price officiating, with Burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Eubanks died Friday, Dec. 26, at his residence. He was born Oct. 16, 1929, in Alabama to Melvin Nimrod and Lois Smith Eubanks. He was a painter with O.F. Richter & Son for 35 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Mayhall Eubanks; two daughters, Donna Rainey of Decatur and Kathy Turner of Dodge City; one son, Phillip Eubanks of Hanceville; three sisters, Joyce Edmundson of Hanceville, Shirley Begley of Big Stone Gap, Va., and Louise Harris of Georgia; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dova Lee Williams

Graveside services for Dova Lee Williams, 87, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at Cullman City Cemetery, Gene Persall officiating.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Williams died Saturday, Dec. 27. She was born Dec. 28, 1915, in Cullman to Randall and Daisy Delia James Chapman. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Paul Williams.

Survivors include one son, Bobby J. (Lessie) Williams; two daughters, Carolyn (Eugene) Campbell and Margaret (William M.) Sharp; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
