Margaret Thigpen Basenberg

Memorial services for Margaret Thigpen Basenberg, 81, of Spanish Fort will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at First United Methodist Church in Cullman, the Rev. Robert W. Gunn officiating, with interment at Hopewell Cemetery. A program of music by Patrick Williams will be at 10:30 a.m.

Pine Crest Funeral Homes and Cemeteries in Mobile is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Basenberg died Wednesday, Feb. 4, at her residence. She was born June 12, 1922, in Hanceville to Claude Hood and Ruby Gibbs Thigpen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Christopher Basenberg, and her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Donald W. Basenberg of Birmingham and Joe E. (Jean Alice) Basenberg of Mobile; and two grandchildren, Anne Katherine Basenberg of San Diego, Calif., and Jensen Thigpen Basenberg, now a senior at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church in Cullman.

Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. today at the church.

John L. Benefield

Funeral services for John L. Benefield, 61, of Loganville, Ga., will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home, Don Hardison officiating, with Burial in Corinth Memorial Gardens-Loganville.

Tim Stewart Funeral Home of Loganville, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Benefield died Thursday, Feb. 5. He was a retired apprenticeship training representative with the U.S. Dept. of Labor, BAT Division, and an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam era. He was past master of Loganville Masonic Lodge No. 135 F.andA.M., past president of the Carpenter's Local Union, and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his wife, Jennie Walker Benefield of Loganville; a son, John II (Julie) Benefield of Monroe; his mother, Ollie E. Benefield of Cullman; four brothers, Charles Benefield of Birmingham, the Rev. George Benefield of Steele, Clarence Benefield of Cullman, and John Wayne Benefield of Blountsville; two sisters, Mae Allison of Albertville and Patsy Lawson of Dora; and two granddaughters, Haley Benefield and Abigail Benefield, both of Monroe.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Sidney Craig Murray

Funeral services for Sidney Craig Murray, 61, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Masters Heart Church of God, Don Collette officiating, with Burial in Baileyton Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Murray died Friday, Feb. 6, at his residence. He was born May 11, 1942, in Doylesburg, Penn., to Claire Raymond and Hazel Craig Murray. He was a disabled dietitian.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys "Shirley" Scott Murray; one son, Kevin (Veronica) Murray of Montgomery; three sisters, LaRue Coons of Dryrun, Penn; Jann Warfel of Elizabethtown, Penn.; and Patrica Wagaman of Chambersburg, Penn.; seven grandchildren, Zachery Murray, Amber Murray, Danielle Murray, Nikki Mooney, Jamie Mooney, Deanna Mooney and Destiny Mooney; his mother-in-law, Ella Mae Scott; and JoAnne Murray, the mother of grandchildren Zachery, Amber and Danielle Murray.

Visitation was Saturday.

Guyles Thomas Combs

Funeral services for Guyles Thomas Combs, 60, of Dawson, will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne Wise officiating, with Burial in Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Combs died Friday, Feb. 6, in Dawson. He was born Oct. 3, 1943, in Sylacauga to Guyles S. and Eva Estelle Ashwander Combs.

Survivors include his father, who lives in Hanceville; four daughters, Cassie Combs and Tara Combs, both of Hanceville, and Leigh Ann Combs and Sherrie Lynn (Wayne) Wise, both of Good Hope; one stepson, Bubba Pitts of Hanceville; one sister, Carol Rigsby of Pinson; eight grandchildren, Zack Wise, Justin Wise, Andrew Wise, Brandon (Christy) Combs, Ryan Combs, Jessica Jackson, Braxton Pitts and Baileigh Pitts; and one great-grandson, Guy Combs.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

George M. Dinkle

Memorial services for Gorge M. Dinkle, 88, of Hanceville and Palmetto, Fla., will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Cullman.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dinkle died Friday, Feb. 6. He was a 1976 retiree of the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in Vienna, Va. He played banjo for the Suncoast Mummers String Band and the RSVP band in Bradenton, Fla. He was a member of Manatee United Methodist Church while in Florida and St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Cullman.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Dorothy A. Dinkle, two daughters, Dorea (Clyde) Jones of Stafford, Va., and Geri (Ed) Moser of Manassas, Va.; one son, Kenneth (Judy) Dinkle of Hayden; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Andrews Methodist Church Building Fund, 316 Main Ave. SW, Cullman, Ala. 35055, or Hospice of Cullman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Solid Rock Church in Hanceville.

Pauline MacLaren McClendon

Funeral services for Pauline MacLaren McClendon, 79, of Bremen, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Wayne Williams officiating, with Burial in Cold Springs Cemetery in Bremen.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McClendon died Friday, Feb. 6. She was born Aug. 17, 1924, in Tewksbury, Mass., to George P. and Myrtle Flint MacLaren.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin McClendon Sr. of Bremen; one daughter, Rebecca Greenwood of Cold Springs; two sons, Marvin C. McClendon Jr. of Cold Springs and Timothy S. McClendon of Tewksbury, Mass.; four sisters, Beverly Beckwith of Freeport, Maine; Priscilla Blumenstock of Dolton Garden, Idaho; Louise Dlugolenski of Stratford, Conn.; and Willa Wolcott of South Lancaster, Mass.; and one brother, Donald MacLaren of Chelmsford, Mass.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

James Willard 'Pete' McMinn

Funeral services for James Willard "Pete" McMinn, 73, of Logan, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, Delwin Kilgo and Ray Bridgeman officiating, with Burial in Sardis Cemetery in the Trimble community.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McMinn died Friday, Feb. 6, at Woodland Village Health Care Center. He was born July 11, 1930, in Alabama to Curtis H. and Pearl Freeman McMinn. He worked as a mechanic for Cullman County and later retired as a mechanic for the City of Cullman.

Survivors include his wife, Ivalene Shoemake McMinn; two daughters, Linda Lindsey and Peggy (Danny) Johnson; one son, Gary (Debra) McMinn; two sisters, Verdie Allen and Pat (Steve) Helms; one brother, Dean (Joyce) McMinn; five grandchildren, Melissa (Chuck) Entinger, Tracy (Chad) Eddleman, Kevin McMinn, Jason McCain and Jeremy McCain; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Entinger and Jordan Entinger.

Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. today.

Datchel Ryan Holmes

Funeral services for Datchel Ryan Holmes, 89, of Eva, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at Peck Funeral Home Chapel, with Burial in Enon Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Holmes died Saturday, Feb. 7, at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ocho Holmes.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. today.

Jeffrey Neil Leibensperger

A celebration of the life of Jeffrey Neil Leibensperger, aka Neil "Mad Dog" Jeffries, 54, of Birmingham, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at the Barber Motorsports Museum in Leeds.

Abanks Mortuary and Crematory in Birmingham is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Leibensperger died Wednesday, Feb. 4.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Stone Leibensperger; one son, Jason (Ashley) Leibensperger; one stepdaughter, Kim Doss Washburn; and one grandson, Jaxon Leibensperger.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alabama Animal Adoption Society, 2808 Crescent Ave., Birmingham, Ala. 35209, or Birmingham Humane Society, 1713 Lomb Ave., Ensley, Ala. 35208.

Nell Dean Stewart

Funeral services for Nell Dean Stewart, 39, of Cullman were Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at Mt. Grove Baptist Church, Jimmy Scott and Vernon Alvis officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stewart died Saturday, Feb. 7, at her residence. She was born July 3, 1964, in Blount County. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Coats; and a stepdaughter, Daphney Stewart.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Gene Stewart; a son, Christopher Lee Stewart; a daughter, Felicia Renee Stewart; a stepdaughter, Donna Stewart; her mother, Virginia Bales Colvert; three brothers, Willy Coats of Tennessee, Timothy Coats of Hanceville and Phillip Dale Watson of Blountsville; five sisters, Nicky Watson of Hanceville, Donna Jean Watson of Cullman, Loretta Ann Basinger and Alice Fay Barlow, both of Montgomery, and Tina Renee Coats of Muscle Shoals; 20 nieces and nephews; and a stepgrandchild, Kayla Hines.

Visitation was Sunday.

Robert Atchley Jr.

Funeral services for Robert Atchley Jr., 72, of Cullman were Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, Jerry Flemming officiating, with Burial in Bethlehem West Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Atchley died Saturday, Feb. 7, at his residence. He was born April 20, 1931, in Alabama to Robert Sr. and Reedie Roberts Atchley. He was a farmer and a volunteer fireman with the Logan Fire Department for 20 years. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Alabama Cattleman's Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Atchley; two sons, Bobby Ray Atchley and Donnie Wayne Atchley; and two grandchildren, Jared Ryan Atchley and Jessica Ruth Atchley.

Pallbearers were Jared Atchley, Shannon Terry, Dustin Melson, Talmadge Filyaw, Bob Horton, Jason Speegle, Gary Pearson and Robert Turner. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Logan Fire Department.

Visitation was Sunday.

Spence E. Edmondson

Funeral services for Spence E. Edmondson, 77, of Harvest, formerly of Cullman, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at Mt. Hope Baptist Church, the Revs. Charles Johnson and Dusty McLemore officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Edmondson died Sunday, Feb. 8, at Valley View Rehab. and Health Care Center. He was born July 10, 1926, to Clyde and Mary Hill Edmondson. He was retired from Cullman City Parks and Recreation Department. He was a member of Mt. Hope Baptist Church in Crane Hill, but was currently attending Lindsay Lane Baptist Church in Athens.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel I. Hancock Edmondson of Harvest; a son, Steve (Kim) Edmondson of Harvest; a daughter, Annette Edmondson of Sylacauga; a brother, Hansel Edmondson of Crane Hill; and three grandchildren, Donnie Marsh of Hartselle, Jarrod Bowling of Harvest and Hannah Edmondson Carlisle of Palm Bay, Fla.

Visitation was Monday.

Idus A. Beavers

Funeral services for Idus A. Beavers, 90, of the Austin Creek Community near Hayden, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at Austin Creek Baptist Church, Paul Kelley, Larry Smith and Neil Whited officiating, with Burial in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state an hour prior to the service.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Beavers died Monday, Feb. 9, at his residence. He was born in Blount County to Sylvester and Ethel Bullard Beavers. He was a retired farmer and a deacon of the Austin Creek Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Odus Beavers; and one sister, Bernice Wadsworth.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Bowerman Beavers of Hayden; one son, Wilburn (Lounette) Beavers of Blountsville; one daughter, Rachel (James) Brown of Blountsville; two brothers, J.L. "Shorty" Beavers and Billy Max Beavers, both of Hayden; four sisters, Kathleen Lumpkin of Palmeedale and Agnes Horton, Imogene McCoy and Wynell Bryan, all of Cleveland; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be LaReid Shelton, Danny Robinson, Randy Bowerman, Edward Dean Lumpkin, Dennis Horton and Ray Beavers.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Annie Bell Austin Hays

Funeral services for Annie Bell Austin Hays, 82, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Chapel in Decatur, the Rev. Steve Inman and Ernest Auston officiating, with Burial in Livingston Chapel Cemetery at Crane Hill.

Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home of Decatur is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hays died Sunday, Feb. 8, at Woodland Village Health Care. She was born Jan. 12, 1922 in Alabama to William Alvin and Nancy Lee Gamblin Austin. She was retired from Decatur General Hospital with 48 years of service. She was a member of Ninth St. United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by a sister, Nora Mitchell of Cullman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
