Funeral services for Jonathan Lamar Denny, 17, of Blountsville will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Rock Springs United Methodist Church, Dan Romberg and Kenneth Little officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Denny died Sunday, March 21, at his residence. He was born in Huntsville to Kenny Lamar and Lesa Jane Rainey Denny. He was a senior at J.B. Pennington High School. He was a member of Rock Springs United Methodist Church, Future Farmers of America, Racking Horse Breeders Association, Walking Horse Breeders Association, the First Place State Poultry Judging Team-J.B. Pennington National Charolais Association.

Survivors include his parents; a brother, Jared Fredrick Denny; a sister, Vanessa Rhea Denny; his grandparents, John L. and Christine Denny and Annie Mae Cook; his great-grandmother, Fannie Beatrice Smith, all of Blountsville; and special friends, Laura Robinson and Joan Kemp.

Pallbearers will be Jason Dunn, Josh Fallin, Alan McCoy, Gary Aycock, Gerald Campbell, Chad Newman, Josh Phillips and Flip Statham.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Wade Fritts

Funeral services for Wade Fritts, 34, of Bessemer will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at Brown Service Funeral Chapel, Bro. Scott Moore officiating, with Burial in Elmwood Cemetery.

Brown Service Funeral Home in Bessemer is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fritts died Sunday, March 21. He was a member of Trinity Life Church. He was employed by BFI.

Survivors include his wife, Beverlee Fritts; one daughter, Cassie Fritts; one son, Joe Fritts; his mother, Brenda Fritts of Hueytown; his father, Richard Fritts of Hueytown; one brother, Michael Fritts of Bessemer; and his grandmother, Agnes Roberts of Cullman.

Helen Heaton Hale

Funeral services for Helen Heaton Hale, 74, of Gardendale will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at Morgans at Gardendale Chapel, Miles Stutts officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Morgans at Gardendale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hale died Monday, March 22.

Survivors include her husband, Sherrill Hale; a daughter, S.A. (Terry) Hale of Madison; a grandchild, Trey Hale Madison; three brothers, Hershal Heaton of Trussville, Cecil Heaton of Cullman and C.D. Heaton of Oceola, Ark.; a brother-in-law, Herbert Hopper of Fultondale; a sister-in-law, Lilly May Heaton of Cullman; and longtime friend, Doris Barnette.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Anna V. Heyl Wentz

Prayers for Anna V. Heyl Wentz, 94, of Dayton, Ohio, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Tobias Funeral Home, Belmont Chapel, in Dayton. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Father Anthony Geraci as celebrant, with Burial in Riverside Cemetery in Troy, Ohio.

Tobias Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wentz died Saturday, March 20, at Bellbrook Healthcare Center-Dayton, Ohio. She was a member of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, The Free Spirits, Rosary Altar Society and the Rike's 20-Year Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell L. Wentz, in 1984; her son, Russell Wentz Jr., in 1945; and a grandson, Bobby Hillier.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Alice Hillier of Canton, Ohio, and Jo Ann Mangeot of Deadwood, S.D.; seven grandsons; a granddaughter; 18 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Immaculate Conception Church Memorial Fund or to Hospice of Dayton.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

James Edward Cornelius

Graveside services for James Edward Cornelius, 73, of Okeechobee, Fla. will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at New Home Cemetery, Andrew Chambers officiating.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cornelius died Saturday, March 20 at Raulerson Hospital. He was born Sept. 13, 1930, in Cullman County to Earley and Gypysy Hitt Cornelius. He was a welder. He has a great-grandchild who has carried his name up to the fourth generation.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Kenneth Ray Cornelius and Terry Richard Cornelius; and a daughter, Theresa Ann Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Olinger Cornelius of Okeechobee, Fla.; a son, James Edward Cornelius Jr. of Okeechobee, Fla.; a daughter, Sherley Weeks of Allentown, Pa.; two brothers, Jesse Cornelius and Jerry Wayne Cornelius of Florida; two sisters, Margie Figuora and Mary Ann Powers of Florida; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Elizabeth Gray Jones

Funeral services for Elizabeth Gray Jones, 62, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Revs. Frank Woods and James Speegle officiating, with Burial in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Mrs. Jones died Monday, March 22, at her residence. She was born Dec. 22, 1941, to Dewey and Clara Millegan Gray. She was a sitter and a seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a son, Richard L. (Annette) Jones of Vinemont; three brothers, Bertas Lee Gray, Jerome C. Gray and O'Neal K. Gray; a sister, Reba Gray Low of Huntsville; one grandchild; six stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

Laura Rachel Shedd

Funeral services for Laura Rachel Shedd, 61, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Tim Kenney officiating, with Burial in Enon Baptist Cemetery.

Mrs. Shedd died Monday, March 22, at her residence. She was born April 20, 1942, in Winston County, to George Louis and Zora Elizabeth Bates Collins. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, William Shedd and Timmy Yates, both of Cullman, and O'Neal Yates of Vinemont; two daughters, Patricia Gulley of Falkville and Rachel Gulley of Cullman; one brother, Lonnie Collins of Lacey's Springs; one sister, Georgia Mae Champion of Cullman; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Mrs. Echols died Thursday, March 25, at her residence. She was born Oct. 16, 1934, in Cullman County to Oscar and Tura Ragland Stephens. She was a homemaker and a member of Panama Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Bill Stephens.

Survivors include her husband, Curtis Echols of Vinemont; three sons, Wendell Echols, Winfred (Judy) Echols and Jeffery Echols of Cullman; two brothers, Ed Stephens and Don Stephens; four sisters, Onvie Mathis, Bonnie Schmale, Nell Jones and Eleron West; four grandchildren, Brad Echols, Mandy Echols, Waylon Echols and Gayla Echols; and a great-grandchild, LaShay Bishop.

Opal Bessie Mayhall Fowler

Funeral services for Opal Bessie Mayhall Fowler, 80, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Malcom Carter III officiating, with Burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Mrs. Fowler died Wednesday, March 24, at her residence. She was born July 5, 1923, in Cullman County to William Harrison and Virgie Oden Mayhall. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Alton "Jake" Fowler of Vinemont; a daughter, Pam Graham of Vinemont; a granddaughter, Cindy (Donnie) Lawrence of Cullman; two great-granddaughters, Chelsie and Lizbeth Lawrence; and three sisters, Ruth Junkins of Cullman, Freda Brooks of Florida and Mary Eubanks of Hanceville.

Albert Ray Kanaday

Funeral services for Albert Ray Kanaday, 75, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, with Burial in Bethlehem East Cemetery.

Mr. Kanaday died Thursday, March 25, at his residence. He was born Jan. 8, 1929, in Cullman County to C.D. and Vicy Curl Kanaday. He was a retired owner and operator of his truck and leased his truck to James R. Smith Trucking. He was a longtime member of Bethlehem East Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his companion, Esther Kanaday of Hanceville; four sons, Jerry (Sarah) Kanaday of Gadsden, Steven R. Kanaday of Tanner, Keith (Terri) Kanaday of Woodville, Texas and Jeff (Muriel) Kanaday of Hanceville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Oscar Kanaday and Colbert Kanaday, both of Hanceville; and two sisters, Ruth Kanaday of Hanceville and Edith Robinson of White City.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mabel Maurine Nelson

Funeral services for Mabel Maurine Nelson, 76, of Bremen will be at noon Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Shady Grove Baptist Church, with Burial in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Nelson died Wednesday, March 24, in Birmingham. She was born July 6, 1947, in Bremen to Raz and Alma Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Theodore R. Persall; and a son, James Wallace Persall.

Survivors include a son, Mark Stephen Persall of Vinemont; two daughters, Rosemary Minor of Vinemont and Janet Lee Persall of Arley; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
