Olivia Warhurst

Funeral services for Olivia Warhurst, 85, of Phil Campbell will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Union Hill Congregational Methodist Church, the Rev. Buddy Jarmon officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Akins Funeral Home of Russellville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Warhurst died Tuesday, March 30. She was born in Winston County. She was a homemaker and a member of Union Hill Congregational Methodist Church in Phil Campbell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Warhurst; a son, Terry Jack Warhurst; a daughter, Reba Barnes; and two brothers, O.C. Pugh Jr. and Neal Pugh.

Survivors include two sons, Lavern (Martha) Warhurst of Hanceville and Skipper Warhurst of Phil Campbell; 11 grandchildren, Regina King, Kenneth Barnes, Melissa Tippett, Beth Harris, Barry Warhurst, Cindy Holbrook, Scott Warhurst, Julie Jones, Angie Walker, Josh Warhurst and Judd Warhurst; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Josh Warhurst, Andrew Harris, Judd Warhurst, Scott Warhurst, Jake King and Barry Warhurst.

Honorary pallbearer will be A.J. Barnes.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Clinton Dwight Barbee

Funeral services for Clinton Dwight Barbee, 56, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Revs. Larry Brown and Dolton Robertson II officiating, with Burial in Duck Creek Cemetery.

Williams-McCrackens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Barbee died Wednesday, March 31 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born April 4, 1947, in Cullman County to T.C. "Tip" and Ruby Lurlene Prince Barbee. He was a service manager with Bill Smith Pontiac.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Survivors include his father; his wife, Martha Hollingsworth Barbee; two sons, Matthew (Estella) Barbee and Graham Barbee; a daughter, Anna Barbee; a brother, Gregory (Carolyn) Barbee, all of Cullman; three sisters, Ann (Lavon) Hopkins of Arab, Marie (Dolton) Robertson of Cullman and Mary (Terry) Mooney of Simcoe; two grandchildren, Alyssa Barbee and Jade Barbee of Cullman; seven nieces; five nephews; eight great-nieces; and 12 great-nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

J.D. Holmes

Services for J.D. Holmes, 79, of Vinemont will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Tony Woods officiating, with Burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Cullman.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He died March 31 at his residence. He was born Sept. 15. 1924, the son of Ernest and Ara Brown Holmes. He was a BellSouth supervisor.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Caudle Holmes; two sons, James David Holmes of Kllen and Danny (Jackie C.) Holmes of Vinemont; a brother, Jimmy Holmes of Hartselle; a sister, Christine Shackles of Arab; three grandchildren, David Holmes, Tim Skiles and Tina Skiles; and two great-grandchildren, Susan Amber Holmes and Scott Holmes.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.

Steve Donald Baker

Funeral services for Steve Donald Baker, 38, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Antioch Baptist Church, the Rev. Donald Day officiating, with Burial in Antioch Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Baker died Wednesday, March 31, in rural Sipsey. He was born Oct. 23, 1965, in Jasper. He was a logger.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rhonda Carol Baker.

Survivors include his wife, Sonya Baker of Cullman; his father, Donald Baker of Hanceville; his mother, Shirley (Jessie) Freeman of Bremen; five sons, Adam Dewayne Baker, Dustin Trent Baker, Heath Anthony Baker, Steven Grant Baker and Steven Isaac Chandler, all of Cullman; two daughters, Brooklyn Michelle Bush and Kayla Nicole Graham, both of Cullman; two brothers, Mark Anthony Baker of Jasper and Tim Freeman of West Point; and his grandmother, Mary E. Williams of Bremen.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Estill Akers

Funeral services for Estill Akers, 81, of Eva will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Peck Funeral Chapel, with Burial in Oden Ridge Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Akers died Wednesday, March 31, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born March 16, 1923, to Andy and Alvie Roberts Akers. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church at Oden Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Voncill Akers of Eva; five sons, Eddie Akers, Kenneth Akers and Leroy Akers, all of Eva; Estil Akers of Apopka, Fla.; and Samuel Akers of Decatur; two daughters, Cynthia Topash of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Anita Suszylo of Hartselle; two brothers, Curt Akers of Wayne, Mich., and Joe Akers of Cleveland, Ohio; five sisters, Zel Marie Greathouse and Willodean Flynn, both of Ohio; Mary Alice Akers of Cleveland, Ohio; and Ethell Thacker and Edna Kendrick, both of Kentucky; and eight grandchildren, Nicole Rikard, Joe Topash, Holly Suszylo, Crystal Akers, Melanie Topash, Eric Topash, Chris Suszylo and Isaish Akers.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Louise V. Grady

Funeral services for Louise V. Grady, 85, of Corning, N.Y., will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery in Corning.

Phillips Funeral Home in Corning, N.Y., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Grady died Tuesday, March 30, at Corning Hospital. She was born on Oct. 5, 1918, in Cullman to Adolph and Elizabeth Shaeffer Veigl. After graduating from Sacred Heart Academy in Cullman, she became a nurse and worked for St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham before entering the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She married Michael G. Grady in 1944. She retired in 1994 as a nurse for Founders Pavilion in Corning for 20 years. She loved to dance, read and travel.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and a brother, Ignatius Veigl.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia (John) Starzec of Painted Post, N.Y.; Kathleen (Dennis) Krygier of Neward, Del.; and Melissa Grady of Corning; a son, Michael Grady Jr. of Wytheville, Va.; a sister, Sr. Florence Veigl of Cullman; a brother, Adolph (Marilyn) Veigl of Louisville, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Violet Veigl of Tuscaloosa; and seven grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Teen Angel, 120 Grace Blvd., Painted Post, N.Y. 14870.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Eugene Leroy Speegle

Graveside services for Eugene Leroy Speegle, 84, of Zephyrhills, Fla., will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2004, at Oakside Cemetery with military honors, by the Zephyrhills VFW Post. 8154.

Whitfield Funeral Home of Zephyrhills, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Speegle died Tuesday, March 30. He was born March 13, 1920, in Cullman to James Gareen and Gertie Walker Speegle. He came to Zephyrhills in 1968 from Alabama. He was a carpenter and a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 118 and the Zephyrhills VFW Post No. 8154. He was a Protestant.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Estelle S. Speegle of Zephyrhills; three daughters, Delona J. (Richard) Allen, Alice Speegle and Kay Parker, all of Zephyrhills; two brothers, James Speegle of Cullman and Calvin Speegle of Fairbanks, Alaska; two sisters, Nona Mae Phillips and Helen Calvert, both of Cullman; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Gaynell G. Tucker

Funeral services for Gaynell G. Tucker, 82, of Tuscaloosa were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Tuscaloosa, the Rev. Carl Dockery officiating.

Memory Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tucker died Sunday, March 28, at Glen Haven Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walker Brown; one brother, William Walker Brown Jr.; and three sisters, Melba West, Olma Tucker and Aline Brown.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil E. Tucker; one son, Jimmy W. (Mena) Tucker; three sisters, Audrey (John) Higdon, Bonnie (Elliott) Hughes and Geraldine Woods; one brother, Royce (Ora) Brown; two grandchildren, Alice (Joe) Green and David (Jennifer) Tucker; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be friends from Clara Verner Towers and Glen Haven Nursing Home.

Billy R. Marty

Funeral services for Billy R. Marty, 69, of Cullman are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by the funeral home.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Marty died Friday, April 2, at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

Brian Howard Eddy

Funeral services for Brian Howard Eddy, 25, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Sardis No. 2 Baptist Church in Winston County, the Rev. Floyal Rodgers officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Eddy died Thursday, April 1, in Huntsville. He was born Sept. 22, 1978, in Alabama. He was a designer for Lockheed-Martin in Huntsville.

He was preceded in death by his father, Loyd Eddy; his grandparents, Jack and Lillian Sterling and Buford and Berta Eddy.

Survivors include a son, Auston; his mother and stepfather, Connie and Tim Powell; a brother, Anthony Powell; and a stepsister, Melissa (Scott) Wimberly.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Sandra Kay Buckelew Bates

Funeral services for Sandra Kay Buckelew Bates, 55, of Cullman were Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Bethsadia Baptist Church, Marvin Brock officiating, with Burial in Bethsadia Baptist Church. The body lay in state one hour prior to the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bates died Sunday, March 28, at her residence. She was born Dec. 5, 1948, in Cullman to Orbie Gladys and Gladys Jeanette Holland Buckelew. She was dedicated to fund-raising. She raised more than $1 million for liver and heart transplants.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Carlton Bates; three daughters, Amanda K. Bates (Eric) Horton, Kimberly A. Bates (Matthew) Bryant and Kristin M. Bates; four grandchildren, Ashley K. Horton, D. Eren Horton, Kelly A. Horton and Ryne M. Bryant; two sisters, Nadine B. (Bud) Reed and Wanda (Jimmy) Quick, all of Cullman; and an aunt, Anna Lou Hubbard of Powder Springs, Ga.

Visitation was Monday.

Opal Rushing

Funeral services for Opal Rushing, 87, of Crane Hill are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by the funeral home.

Mrs. Rushing died Friday, April 2, at her residence.

Charles Leo Adkins

Funeral services for Charles Leo Adkins, 66, of Vinemont will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Peck Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Jimmy Drinkard officiating, with Burial in Lawrence Cove Cemetery at Pine Bluff in Eva.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Adkins died Thursday, April 1, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Dec. 11, 1937, in Morgan County to Edgar Corbet and Carmie Randall Adkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Adkins and Jeff Adkins, both of Eva; two daughters, Kathy Adkins Potter of Hanceville and Danna Upton of Decatur; a stepson, Danny Mason of Decatur; two brothers, Paul Adkins of Hartselle and James Adkins of Vinemont; four sisters, Faye Kirksey, Charline Ward, Bobby Barnett, all of Hartselle, and Peggy Johnson of Eva; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Pallbearers will be Danny Drinkard, Franklin Drinkard, Frankie Bennett, Tommy Barnett, J.D. Shelby and Kent Larue.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Billy Ray Marty

Funeral services for Billy Ray Marty, 69, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2004, at St. John's Evangelical Protestant Church, Bob Kurtz and Bob Murray officiating, with Burial in Cullman Memory Gardens. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Marty died Friday, April 2, at his residence. He was born March 23, 1935, in Cullman County to Carl Monroe Sr. and Ruby Chandler Marty. He was a member of St. John's Church for about 18 years, and he was a member of the Alabama National Guard and the Cullman Elks Lodge #1609.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Marty; one son, Michael (Debbie) Marty of Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter, Pam (Kevin) Binkowski of Cullman; one brother, Carl (Brenda) Marty Jr. of Cullman; and three grandchildren, Varonica Marty, Hilarie Marty and Grace Binkowski.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the van fund or the music fund at St. John's Church.

Visitation was Saturday.
