CHARLES MARION HARRIS
PELL CITY — Funeral service for Charles Marion Harris, 74, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Eden New Hope Baptist Church. Burial will be in Eden New Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Harris died Dec. 28. He was formerly of Birmingham, was raised in Lineville and graduated from Lineville High School. Following high school, he attended Auburn University and then went into the U.S. Army, where he served in Korea during the war. Following his time in the military, he went to work for U.S. Steel in Fairfield and retired after 33 years of service. He was a former member of Central Park Baptist Church in Birmingham. He was a resident of Pell City for the last 14 years, where he was a member of Eden New Hope Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and a member of the Friendship Bowling Team at Eastwood Lanes.
He is survived by his wife, Emma Jo Harris of Pell City; sons, Tommy Harris of West Blocton and Mike Harris of Trussville; grandchildren, Kristen Harris Lightsey, Alan Harris, Elaine Harris and Michael Harris Jr.; great-grandchild, Jace Lightsey; brother, Harold Harris of Lineville; and sister, Joan Harris of Jackson.
Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.
VIRGIL WYATT HESTER
LINEVILLE — Funeral service for Virgil Wyatt Hester, 78, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church North with the Rev. L.C. Harris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hester died Dec. 29 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County, was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army. He had been employed with Amerace as a maintenance worker and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church North.
He is survived by his wife, Mae Hester of Lineville; two daughters, Judy Elaine Dewberry of Lineville and Kathy Faye Toland of Ashland; one son, Virgil Wayne Hester of Ashland; one sister, Odessa Forbus of Lineville; one brother, Leroy Hester of Lineville; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home until one hour before the service.
The body may be viewed at the church for one hour.
Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville will direct the service.
WILLIAM CLAY NIXON
HARTSELLE — Graveside service for William Clay Nixon, 64, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery
in Sylacauga with the Rev. James D. Davis officiating.
Mr. Nixon died Dec. 28 at Veterans Medical Center in Birmingham. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by one son, Jason Nixon of Sylacauga; two sisters, Edna R. McDaniel of Sylacauga and Billie Faye Horton of Hartselle; two stepsisters, Christine Sims of Childersburg and Margie Dennis of Sylacauga; one stepbrother, Billy Limbaugh of Sylacauga; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from noon until 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.
VASHTI M. REID
ANNISTON — Funeral service for Vashti M. Reid, 85, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory in Anniston with the Rev. Harold Payne officiating. Burial will be in Patton's Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Reid died Dec. 29. She was a lifelong resident of Anniston and was an active member of local community churches where the Rev. Earnest Reid pastored. She was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Davis Reid; a granddaughter, Donna Reid; a daughter-in-law, Betty Reid; two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Earnest Reid of Anniston; two sons, Ken Reid of Oxford and Earnest Douglas Reid of Lincoln; three daughters, Helen Faye Bowman of Cartersville, Ga., Pat Cotton of Anniston and Star Saly of Hokes Bluff; one sister, Zenoba McCulley Lucas of Shelby County; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Patton's Chapel Baptist Church.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory in Anniston will direct the service.

SYLACAUGA — Ida Wilson, 90, died Dec. 30 at Coosa Valley BMC.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Community Funeral Home.

William Hines Gillespie
Services for William Hines Gillespie, 77, were at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with Revs. Bert Breland and Fred Taylor officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, with K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in charge.
Mr. Gillespie died Thursday at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Gillespie of Jacksonville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Billy Baker of Piedmont and Tina and Robert Auchenpaugh of Powder Springs, Ga.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Diane Gillespie of Meridian, Miss., and Paul and Sandy Gillespie of Centreville, Va.; a sister and brother-in-law, Freida and Pete Bybee of Brevard, N. C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Marian Gillespie of Greenville, S. C.; a brother-in-law, Dr. George Willis of New Orleans; seven grandchildren, Ann Motes, Amy Baker, Anna Auchenpaugh, Alyssa Auchenpaugh, Mary Gillespie, Lauren Gillespie and Stephanie Whitten; two great-grandchildren, Brady Motes and Brock Baker; and five nieces and five nephews.
Pallbearers were John Vanderford, Ed Davis, Bill Blount, Bill McPherson, Jame Brown, Marion Rollins, Arvid Padgett and Tom Padgett.
Mr. Gillespie was a native of South Carolina and had lived in Jacksonville 39 years. He was retired as plant manager of Union Yarn Mill. He was a former board member of Jacksonville Hospital and a member of First Baptist Church.
He was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and member of the Austin Sunday school class. He was active with Jacksonville Christian Outreach Center and was a World War II Army veteran. He was an avid gardener.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Gillespie; his parents, Bryant Eugene Gillespie and Clara Hines Gillespie; and a sister, Evelyn Davis.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Louvenda B. Rochester
Services for Louvenda B. Rochester, 90, were Monday at 11 a.m. at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with the Rev. James Martin officiating. Burial was in Jacksonville City Cemetery
with K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in charge.
Mrs. Rochester died Friday at Jacksonville Hospital.
Survivors include a sister, Donie Mae Braggs of Collinsville, Okla.; a brother, Early Bragg of Jacksonville; four nieces and 11 nephews.
Pallbearers were her nephews, Curtis Rochester, Gary Burch, Mack Fair, Randal Burch, Michael Wilbanks and Greg Wilbanks.
Mrs. Rochester was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She was retired from Blue Mountain Industries and was a member of Congregational Holiness Church.

Ficklen, James A. "Tony"
Services for James A. “Tony” Ficklen, 82, were at 11 a.m. Thursday at K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with Revs. David Vinson and Bill Greenwood officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Ficklen died Oct. 8 at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby H. Ficklen of Jacksonville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Dwight Hulsey, Sue and Jackie Wilkins and Karen and John Steward, all of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Shannon and Michael Hunter, Tony and DeShannon Hulsey, Donna and Ben Huff, Johnathan Steward, Charlie and Rita Steward, Jeff and Lori Steward, Carol and Karl Allen, Greg and Stacie Wilkins, and Jeff and Denise Wilkins; 12 great-grandchildren, eight nieces and nine nephews.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Tony Hulsey, Ben Huff, Charlie Steward, Jeff Steward, Karl Allen, Michael Hunter and Johnathan Steward. Honorary pallbearers were the men of Fellowship Baptist Church.
He was a Cleburne County native, member of Fellowship Baptist Church, supervisor for the Calhoun County Road Department for 34 years, superintendent for Anniston Memorial Gardens and announced his call to preach in 1962. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel W. Ficklen; his parents, James A. Ficklen and Lula Reiber; a son, Donald Ficklen; two sisters, Ardell Rainwater and Luzetta Hill; and five brothers, J. B. Ficklen, Bill Ficklen, Dudley Ficklen, Jessie Ficklen and Gerald Ficklen.

John Forney Ford
Services for John Forney Ford, 66, were at 1 p.m. Sunday at Jacksonville Church of God, with full military honors. Revs. Harl Skipper and Ronald White officiated. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Rachel V. McCormack Ford of Jacksonville; a daughter, Karen L. Ford of Jacksonville; a son and daughter-in-law, Adrian and Renee Ford of Alexandria; a sister, Edna Wheeler of Anniston; two brothers, Myron T. Ford of Jacksonville and William Michael Ford of Panama City, Fla.; three grandchildren, Leigh Ann Ford, Haley Ford and Hunter Ford; and seven nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were C. G. Hale, Jerry Brown, Richard Moore, Larry Cruz, Tim West, Jimmy Jackson, Daniel Savona and Andy Kotlowski. Honorary pallbearers were Braxton Price and David DuHon.
Mr. Ford was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. He was a member of Jacksonville Church of God and had taught Sunday school and served in several offices in the church. He was a 26-year Army veteran and was employed by the Piedmont Post Office for 14 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Elbert Ford and Hattie Ford, and a brother, Kenneth “Kenny” Ford. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Charles Prue Lyons
Services for Charles Prue Lyons, 86, of Fort Payne, formerly of Jacksonville, were at 2 p.m. Friday at Burt Chapel in Fort Payne, with Rev. Michael Rogers officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Lyons died Dec. 11 at DeKalb Baptist Medical Center.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Suttles of Fort Payne and Rebecca Perryman Tilley of Anniston; a son, Skipper Perryman of Anniston; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a nephew, Charlie Shipp of Fort Payne, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lyons was retired from civil service and was a native of DeKalb County. He was a Baptist and an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wives, Helen Durman Lyons and Virginia Perryman Lyons, and his parents, P. H. and Bonnie Lyons.
