Fables

MELLOW VALLEY

Services for John W. Fables Jr., 68, of Mellow Valley will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at County Line Baptist Church with Revs. Jessie Taylor and Zenus Windsor and Pastor Keith Jones officiating. Burial will be in Clay County Memory Gardens with Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland in charge. The family will receive friends 5-9 tonight and until one hour prior to service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Fables died Thursday at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Fables of Mellow Valley; two daughters and their husbands, Micki and Tim Carroll of Mellow Valley and Kim and Jimmy Vickers of New Site; a son and his wife, Jimmy and Sandra Fables of Ashland; five sisters, Frances West of Ashland, Doris Saffold, Shirley Robertson and Sue Thompson, all of Mellow Valley and LouNell Sprayberry of Lineville; two brothers, Bobby Ray Fables of Mellow Valley and Terry Lee Fables of Ashland, and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Fables, Nathan Carroll, Bobby Ray Fables, Terry Lee Fables, Tim Carroll and Jimmy Vickers. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of County Line Baptist Church and his nephews.

Mr. Fables was a native of Tallapoosa County and had lived in Clay County most of his life. He was a Korean War veteran and was a sales representative for Legacy Cabinet Co. for eight years. He was the owner and operator of Kitchens Plus in Ashland and was a member of County Line Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Carey Lee Fables, a sister, Flossie Hardman; and his parents, John Walter Fables Sr. and Eunice Mabrey Fables.

Green

VINCENT

Services for Lizzie Ann Bedford Green, 48, of Vincent will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Cropwell with Rev. W.J. Posey officiating. Burial will be in Rocky Zion Church Cemetery with Sims Funeral Service in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mrs. Green died Jan. 31 at Brookwood Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband, Thurmond Green of Vincent; a daughter, Jimmie Lou Sanders of Pell City; eight sisters, Earnestine Montgomery, Lula Johnson, Monica Wade, Mary Gilbert, Clara Threatt, Dorothy Bedford and Barbara Bedford, all of Pell City and Sarah Bedford of Thorton, Ga.; five brothers, Rev. Billy Gene Bedford, Joseph Bedford, Jack Bedford and Stanley Bedford, all of Pell City and Larry Kelley of Gary, Ind.; five grandchildren, four aunts and four uncles.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Bedford, Eugene Bedford, Michael Bedford, Milton Fomby, Victor Bedford, Eddie Jackson, Willie Jackson and Willie Bedford.

Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.

Services for Eva M. Herren, 81, of Newell will be announced by Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee.

Mrs. Herren died Thursday at Lineville Nursing Facility.

Howard

GALLANT

Services for Norma E. Howard, 67, of Gallant will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Attalla with David Dunn officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Howard died Wednesday.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Frazier of Seneca, S.C., Tim Frazier of Gallant and Russell Frazier of Palmetto, Ga.; a daughter, Melani Culberson of Gallant; three sisters, Zetha Potterfield of Southside, Shelby Cash of Fairburn, Ga. and Vicki Martin of Guntersville; two brothers, Bill Estes of Austell, Ga. and Ricky Higginbotham of Gainesville, Ga.; 14 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Services for Annie R. Hudson, 78, of Port Royal, formerly of Talladega, will be announced by Sims Funeral Service.

Mrs. Hudson died Wednesday.

Hunter

Services for Alfonza Adams Hunter, 91, of Anniston will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ervin Funeral Chapel with Rev. Willie Simmons Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Edgemont Cemetery.

Mrs. Hunter died Monday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include two sons, Jexie Hunter of Anniston and George Hunter of Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister, Myrtle Burgos of Florida; and two grandchildren, Anthony Hunter and Misty Hunter.

Mrs. Hunter was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Hunter Sr., and a son, Charles B. Hunter Jr.

King

Services for Bennington Stephen King III, 53, of Anniston will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Acker Chapel of First United Methodist Church of Anniston with Rev. Tom Bell officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery with Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory in charge. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. King died Wednesday at his home.

Survivors include a daughter, Laura Kathleen King of Chicago; a son, Ben King IV of Anniston; his mother, Mrs. Ben King of Anniston; and a sister, Madelyne King of Anniston.

Pallbearers will be Stan Nelson, Tom Tarver, Larry Pinson, Jim Campbell and Henry Baugh.

Mr. King was a native and lifelong resident of Anniston. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Anniston. He was a graduate of the Anniston Academy, now known as The Donoho School and Jacksonville State University. He was preceded in death by his father, Ben King Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Anniston, 1400 Noble St., Anniston, AL 36201; or a favorite charity.

Longmire

CONOVER, N.C.

Services for Bernice Wreyford Longmire, 89, of Conover will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Tri-City Baptist Church with Rev. Byron Repass, Rev. Dr. Billy Mobley and Rev. Dr. Ruffin Snow officiating. Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park. The body will be at the church 30 minutes prior to services. The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 tonight at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton, N.C.

Mrs. Longmire died Wednesday at her home.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Samuel “Sam” O. and Naomi Wreyford of Wedowee and Kenneth and Janice Longmire of Powell, Tenn.; three daughters and a son-in-law, Pat Viles and Connie Wreyford Cheek, both of Newton, N.C. and Marti Pollack Mobley and Dr. Billy Mobley of Hickory, N.C., and 17 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Hal McDaris, Jerry Goforth, Michael Roberts, Mike Runnels, Harold Roberts and Bill Mobley.

Mrs. Longmire was born in Arkansas and was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Delphia Ann Hardin Turner. She was a retired physical therapist from Fort Sanders Presbyterian Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn., and was a charter member of Tri-City Baptist Church in Conover. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer T. Longmire, six brothers and four sisters.

Memorials may be made to Tri-City Baptist Church, 1409 NC Highway 16 North, Conover, NC 28613; or Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, N.C. 28658.

Martin

HEPHZIBAH, Ga.

Services for Greta Martin, 75, of Hephzibah, formerly of Weaver, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Kinsey and Walton Funeral Home in Augusta, Ga. with Pastor Alan Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Martin died Jan. 31.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ron and Cheryl Martin of Hephzibah and Gordon Martin of Augusta, Ga.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Martin was a native of New York City and had retired as a registered nurse in Weaver and Hephzibah.

Matarainen

HARRIMAN, Tenn.

Graveside services for Amelia Grace Kircus Rollins Matarainen, 81, of Harriman, formerly of Anniston, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Edgemont Cemetery with Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory in charge. The family will receive friends 1-1:45 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Matarainen died Monday in Harriman.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra Grace Rollins Foley of Harriman; two sons, George C. Rollins of Sullivan, Ill. and Stanley L. Rollins of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Ollie Kircus Banks of Orlando, Fla., Elizabeth Kircus Messer of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Evelyn Kircus Smith of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ernest Lee Brown, Clint Vaughn, Dennis Vaughn, Freddie Vaughn, Johnny Kelley and David Thompson.

Mrs. Matarainen was a member of Pine Castle Baptist Church in Orlando and South Harriman Baptist Church in Harriman. She sang with the Messiah Choral Society for more than 50 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Melay Kircus and Amelia Kircus; three sisters, Annie Kircus Comas, Florence Kircus and Jewell Kircus; and two brothers, Albert Kircus and Luther Kircus.

McCain

JACKSONVILLE

Graveside services for Huey Dorsey McCain, 88, of Jacksonville will be today at 1 p.m. at Edgemont Cemetery with Rev. Gerald Clark officiating and K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in charge. The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to noon today at the funeral home.

Mr. McCain died Thursday at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Survivors include three daughters, Pearlie Findley and Ruby Dupree, both of Anniston and Anita Phillips of Piedmont; three sons, David McCain and Clifford McCain, both of Anniston and Gerald McCain of Duluth, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, Darrell Hamby, Andra Thacker, Carla Stallings, Bo Gardner, Michelle Woods, Marsha McCain, Anthony McCain, Karen Woodrow, Tina Lockett, Joey McCain and Amy McCain; eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bo Gardner, Cory Hamby, Mike Stallings, Bradley Stallings, Chuck Thacker, Nick Thacker, Tommy Jerrells, Robin Woods and Darrell Hamby.

Mr. McCain was a lifelong resident of Calhoun County and was the owner of McCain’s Upholstery. He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet McCain; a daughter, Phyllis Brewer; a son, Joey McCain; a sister, Rosie Haney; and three brothers, J.T. McCain, Lee Roy McCain and Raymond McCain.
