McCormick

Services for Hattie P. McCormick, 66, of Anniston will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Greater Thankful Baptist Church with Rev. P.Q. English officiating. Burial will be in Anniston Memorial Gardens with Ervin Funeral Chapel in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mrs. McCormick died Tuesday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband, John McCormick of Anniston; two daughters, Gerri Anita Glass of Anniston and Janice Satcher of Oxford; four sons, Hollis McCormick, John W. McCormick, William McCormick and Gary McCormick, all of Anniston; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Mrs. McCormick was a member of Greater Thankful Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 312.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Greater Thankful Baptist Church Family Life Center.

McGinnis

JACKSONVILLE

Services for James Franklin McGinnis, 82, of Jacksonville will be Friday at 2 p.m. at K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory with Revs. Gerald Brooks and Steve McGinnis officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 5-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. McGinnis died Wednesday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Frances McGinnis of Jacksonville; three sons and their wives, Danny and Janet McGinnis of Piedmont, Billy and Jean McGinnis of Delta and Johnny and Maxine McGinnis of Jacksonville; a sister, Barbara Ann Wilson of Jacksonville; four brothers, Carl McGinnis, Joe McGinnis and Clarence McGinnis, all of Jacksonville and Tom Pelham McGinnis of Talladega; eight grandchildren, Gaynell Tierce, Lisa McGinnis, Sonya Spanyer, Michelle Spurlin, Tracy Parris, Richard McGinnis, Brandi McGinnis and Chad McGinnis; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be H.T. Kilgore, Jerry McGinnis, Sonny McGinnis, David Barry, Chris Mintz and John Walker.

Mr. McGinnis was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. He retired in 1956 from AOD after 12 years of service and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Friendship Congregational Methodist Church in Blue Mountain.

Pippin

BAY MINETTE

Graveside services for Mary Frances Dickie Pippin, 85, of Bay Minette, formerly of Anniston, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Highland Cemetery with Dr. Billy Harris officiating and Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory in charge. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pippin died Tuesday in Bay Minette.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Nyman of Bay Minette and Fran Pippin of Nashville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Rick Nyman, Mary Ann Richey and Katherine Pippin.

Mrs. Pippin was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Pippin, the former mayor of Anniston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parker Memorial Baptist Church.

Ray

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.

Services for Dorothy Olene Ray, 70, of Chattanooga, formerly of Anniston, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory with Rev. Ed Heptinstall officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ray died Tuesday in Chattanooga.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen Ray Macphee of Chattanooga; a son, Gary Lynn Ray of Anniston; two brothers, Leroy Wilborn and Walden Wilborn, both of Anniston; two sisters, Jerri Dale Ray and Dixie McKendree, both of Anniston; two grandchildren, Brian Ray Macphee and Kelli Marlow; and a great-grandchild, Grayson Ray Marlow.

Mrs. Ray was a member of First Baptist Church of Anniston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry B. Ray.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials can be made to the Hospice of East Alabama.

Rembert

TALLADEGA

Services for Stanley Taliaferro Rembert, 85, of Talladega will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary with Rev. Dr. Horace L. Patterson officiating. Burial will be Fairlawn Cemetery in Selma.

Mr. Rembert died Saturday at Citizens Baptist Medical Center.

Mr. Rembert was a graduate of Alabama State College and was retired from the Talladega City Board of Education, where he taught at Westside Elementary School and Dixon Middle School. He had been the minister of music and a member of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church for more than 40 years. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the 24 Horsemen Club, College City Elks Lodge 1171, AMVETS Post 25 and the College City Lodge Federal Credit Union. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bonnie Young Rembert; and a son, Stanley T. Rembert II.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Talladega College, c/o President’s office, Talladega College, Talladega, AL 35160.

Thorpe

OXFORD

Private memorial services for Nalga Merline Burkes Thorpe of Oxford will be announced by her family. Miller Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Thorpe died Wednesday at Beverly Health Care in Oxford.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Thorpe of Oxford; two sons, Barry David Thorpe of Alexandria and Mark S. Thorpe of Munford; a brother, Judson L. Burkes of Oceanside, Calif.; and a grandchild, Jeremiah Thorpe.

Mrs. Thorpe was a charter member and past pianist of Ridgeview Baptist Church in Talladega. She was 1953 graduate of Talladega High School and was preceded in death by a son, Chris Thorpe.

Whitson

TALLADEGA

Services for George Whitson, 74, of Talladega will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary with Rev. L.L. Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Kelly Springs Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Whitson died Sunday at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Pearl Whitson of Talladega; a daughter, Doris Leigh Whitson of Talladega; a son, Eugene Wesley Whitson of Talladega; a sister, Mae Sue Taylor of Talladega; five brothers, Ross Whitson, Memphis Whitson, Johnny Whitson and Walter Whitson, all of Talladega and Fred Whitson of California; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Oliver Whitson, Lonnie Whitson, Lucas Whitson, Ross Whitson Jr., Walter Whitson, Chris Whitson, Lester DebarDelabon, Corey Garrett and Charles Whitson.

Mr. Whitson was a former employee of Johnny Hall Service Station and Curlee Service Station. He was retired from Wehadkee Yarn Mills and was the owner of his own lawn mower repair shop. He was a former member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Whitson and Katie Hickman Whitson.

Bowen

ROANOKE

Graveside services for Denson Bowen, 78, of Roanoke, formerly of LaGrange, will be today at 11 a.m. (CDT) at Restlawn Memory Gardens in LaGrange with Rev. Shannon Mapp officiating and Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Bowen died Thursday at his home.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-law, Sandra Hurley of Roanoke and Harriett and Danny Strickland of Panama City, Fla.; two grandchildren, Alicia Lewis and Christie Sanders; a brother, Bill Bowen of Birmingham; two sisters, Leona Rice and Rosalee Haynes, both of LaGrange; and two half sisters, Janie Anderson of Helena, Ohio and Eula Mae Rucker of Roanoke.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Bowen was the son of Henry and Naomi Bowen. He was a World War II Navy veteran and had worked in the textile industry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Laura Warren Bowen.

Cartwright

HUNTSVILLE

Services for Mary Tinsley Cartwright, 84, of Huntsville, formerly of Anniston, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Anniston with Dr. R. Laurence Dill officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens in Anniston. The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville.

Mrs. Cartwright died Friday.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Anne C. and Donald Davis of Cullman and Linda Spalla of Huntsville; a sister, Nancy White of Cleveland, Tenn.; four grandchildren and their spouses, Tim and Lisa Davis, Matt and Janet Davis, Chris and Nancy Parton and Natalie Spalla; and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Cartwright was a resident of Anniston for 40 years and had lived in Huntsville nine years. She was retired from AmSouth Bank and was a member of the United Methodist Church all her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred S. Cartwright.

Memorials can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 617 Airport Road, Huntsville, AL; or the First United Methodist Church in Anniston.

Crabtree

TALLADEGA

Services for Marie Crabtree, 60, of Talladega will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home with Revs. Glis Crib and Rick Cato officiating. Burial will be in Midway Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Crabtree died Friday at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Crabtree of Talladega; a daughter, Angie Ellis of Alpine; two sons, Greg Crabtree and Mike Crabtree, both of Talladega; her mother, Sadie Stone of Talladega; two sisters, May Nix of Clanton and Betty Carden of Talladega; two brothers, Ronnie Stone and Rickey Stone, both of Talladega; and five grandchildren, Candi Ellis, Holly Ellis, Joshua Crabtree, Blaise Crabtree and Kassidy Crabtree.

Pallbearers will be Mike Collier, Scott Howard, Ken Stokes, Mike Nix, Ray Nix and Jimmy Scott. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Nelson and Kevin Nelson.

Mrs. Crabtree was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega. She was a member of Talladega Creek Baptist Church and a housewife.
