FLOYD WAYNE PHILLIPS

LINEVILLE — Funeral service for Floyd Wayne Phillips, 40, of 510 Highway 48, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Young's Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Virgil Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Lineville Community Cemetery.

Mr. Phillips died May 29 at his residence. He was a member of Young's Chapel United Methodist Church, was a 1981 graduate of Lineville High School and was formerly employed as a mechanic at Waldrep's Service, Messer's Garage, Midway Trucking Company and for the past five years at Shaddix Pulp Wood Company. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie D. Fleming, and his stepfather, Floyd Phillips.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Ruth Burney Phillips of Lineville; sisters, Minnie Ford and Minnie Caldwell of Lineville; brother, Luther Phillips of Lineville; and his grandmothers, Thelma Fleming of Lineville and Savannah Burney of Douglasville, Ga.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Caldwell, Michael Ford, Terry Zachery, Jerome Wilson, Dwayne Garrett and Clifford Heflin.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

CLIFFORD BARNETT

GOODWATER — Funeral service for Clifford Barnett, 73, of Rock Springs Community, was Monday at Benefield Funeral Home chapel in Lineville with the Rev. Curtis Watts officiating. Burial was in Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Barnett died May 29 at his residence. He was a native of Clay County, a former resident of Florida, Georgia and California and had lived most of his life in Clay County. He was a Korean War veteran, having served in the United States Army. He had been employed by Estes Heating and Air Conditioning and was a Baptist by faith. He was preceded in death by a sister, Glenda Hardin, and a brother, Louie Barnett.

He is survived by his wife, Bettie Starnes of Anaheim, Calif.; daughters, Bobbie Haywood of Heflin and Martha Gail Carter of Stockbridge, Ga.; son, Virgil Lee Barnett of Lineville; sisters, Naomi Griffin of Goodwater, Lois Goss of Hackneyville, Doris Thrower of Goodwater and Gaynelle Robinson of Kellyton; brothers, Buddie Barnett of Goodwater and Perry Barnett of Talladega; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville directed the service.

JOSEPH D. CARDEN

SYLACAUGA — Graveside service for Joseph D. Carden, 78, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Odena Cemetery.

Mr. Carden died June 1 at Coosa Valley BMC.

He is survived by son, Steve Carden of Sylacauga; sisters, Margie Lanthan of Marble Valley and Mary Kathern; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

ROSIE L. CURRY

TALLADEGA — Rosie L. Curry, 69, of 605 Avenue H, died June 2 at her residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sims Funeral Service.

BESSIE LOVE ELDERS

ATLANTA, Ga. — Bessie Love Elders, 72, formerly of Anniston, died June 2.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ervin Funeral Home in Anniston.

RUTH Jones GORDON

MOODY — Funeral service for Ruth Jones Gordon, 92, was Monday at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Leeds with Jerrold Parker officiating. Burial was in Liberty Cemetery.

Mrs. Gordon died May 30. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Moody, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

She is survived by daughters, Sara Gordon and Carol J. Tucker; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds directed the service.

FRANK FRANCIS HENSON

HARPERSVILLE — Memorial service for Frank Francis Henson, 59, will be held in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla., at a later date.

Mr. Henson died May 30 at Coosa Valley BMC.

He is survived by a son, Troy Henson of Springhill, Fla.; a daughter, Traci Taylor of Romeoville, Ill.; a brother, Dennis Henson of Rantoul, Ill.; a sister, Janice Phenicie of Richfarm, Ill.; his mother, Mary Steele of Christman, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

ESTELL M. HOLLEY

SYLACAUGA — Estell M. Holley, 73, died June 2.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Madden's Funeral Home.

BETTYE JEAN CAVER JUDKINS

ANNISTON — Funeral service for Bettye Jean Caver Judkins, 65, will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Mars Hill Baptist Church at Randolph Park with the Rev. George T. Bates officiating. Burial will be in Oconee Cemetery.

Mrs. Judkins died May 29 at Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Vader Judkins Jr., and her mother, Florida Kendricks Caver. She was a lifelong resident of Anniston.

She is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Matthews of Anniston; sons, William Judkins of Gadsden and Michael Judkins of Anniston; her father, J.C. Caver; a brother, Renfroe Caver; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at 605 E. 18th St. from 6 p.m. until.

Ervin Funeral Home in Anniston will direct the service.

MARY E. LOVELADY

COLDWATER — Funeral service for Mary E. Lovelady, 91, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Coldwater Baptist Church with the Rev. Finley Holbrook and the Rev. Thurman O'Dell officiating.

Mrs. Lovelady died June 2 at Citizens BMC in Talladega. She was a native of Tallapoosa County and had lived in Coldwater for most of her life. She was an avid quilt maker and a member of Northside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Lavelle Lovelady; a son, Donald Lamar Lovelady; a sister, Erie Jones; a brother, Vernon Foreman; and her parents, William and Katie Harry Foreman.

She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn Self of Lincoln; sons, William Lovelady of Oxford and Wayne Lovelady of Bynum; a brother, Jack Foreman of New Site; sisters, Arlee Hamilton of Alexander City and Sarah Long of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Self, Roger Self, Russell Self, Joseph Self, Todd Self, Cecil Lovelady and Marion Pearce.

Miller Funeral Home will direct the service.

SYLACAUGA — Julia E. Safford, 90, died June 1 at Sylacauga Health Care.

NEW YORK — William Shears, 87, formerly of Anniston, died June 1.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ervin Funeral Home in Anniston.

JEANETTE GRIFFIN SPARKS

ASHLAND — Funeral service for Jeanette Griffin Sparks, 73, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home chapel in Ashland with the Rev. Kenneth Fuller officiating. Burial will be in Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Sparks died May 31 at Clay County Nursing Home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County, had been employed by Southland Manufacturing Company for 30 years and was a Baptist by faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theron H. Sparks; three sisters, Ila Hallman, Lourie Harris and Mary Craft; and three brothers, George Griffin, John A. Griffin and Joe Griffin.

She is survived by a son, Larry H. Sparks of Ashland; sisters, Carol Patterson of Bluff Springs and Edelene Mitchell of Lineville; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Timmy Sparks, Jeff Sparks, Shane Bohannan, Trevor Moore, Ben Harold Griffin and Robert H. (Pete) Griffin.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home until service time.

Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland will direct the service.

AUGUSTA TURNER

BIRMINGHAM — Augusta Turner, 72, of 6408 Tree Crossing Parkway, formerly of Talladega, died June 1 at Civic Center Health and Rehabilitation.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary.

IDA GRAY WILSON

PIKE ROAD — Funeral service for Ida Gray Wilson, 68, was May 19 at Dalraida United Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Fuller officiating. Burial was in Sylacauga.

Mrs. Wilson died May 15. She was a dearly loved and prominent teacher. She battled breast cancer for 21 years and counseled many other patients of the cancer center. She was a resident of Montgomery for 32 years. She graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1958. She taught first grade and owned Gray Wilson School from 1974 until 1996. The school was located on Walnut Street in the Mulberry District. Countless children from kindergarten through fourth grade were loved and taught valuable lessons to shape their lives through Mrs. Wilson's famous Bible lessons. Through stories she wrote called the Mother Alphabet stories, children were exposed to an accelerated reading, spelling and math curriculum. She felt a calling on her life by God to be a teacher at an early age and dedicated her life to love and inspire children with their education. She was from Sylacauga but had lived in many cities in the state of Alabama. She taught at Macintyre School and at Green Gate School before opening her school.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Howard Wilson of Pike Road; daughters, Ginger Jones of Montgomery, Ida McCartha of Tallassee, Elizabeth Smith of Hoover and Ruth Neuhoff of Wetumpka; nine grandchildren; and a brother, Oliver Pruett of Matthews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorials be sent to St. Jude's Children Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

The Upper Room Sunday School Class served as honorary pallbearers.

Brooks-Cargile Funeral Home directed the service.
