VALLEY -- Mrs. Mary Louise McConnell, 77, of Valley died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.
Funeral services are scheduled Saturday, Aug. 28 at 4 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Greg Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. McConnell is survived by four daughters, Charlotte McConnell of Valley, Angela (David) Hollis of Lanett, Quin M. Dykes (Larry) Allen of Valley and Pam (Mike) Anglin of Valley; three sons, John McConnell of Lanett, Ronnie (Debbie) McConnell of Valley and Marc (Deanna) McConnell of Valley; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren
Born in Gadsden, Ala., March 16, 1927, Mrs. McConnell was the daughter of the late Willie Ella Pollard Mitchell and Hugh Mitchell. She loved her family and her church, Shawmut First United Methodist Church. Mrs. McConnell was a retired employee of WestPoint Stevens Fairfax Mill. She was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Brian and Casey McConnell and Byron and Steven Dykes.
The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 27 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

MR. WALKER
VALLEY -- Mr. William Lewis Walker, 51, of Valley died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004 in Jasper, Tenn.
Funeral services are scheduled Saturday, Aug. 28 at 1 p.m. at Rehoboth Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Marshall and the Rev. Robert Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Jean A. Walker of Valley; his mother, Georgie Walker (Oliver) Williams of Opelika; two stepchildren, Robert (Anne) Cash and daughter, Samantha, all of Nashville, N.C., and Carolyn (Sheb) Tharrington and daughter, Tabitha, all of Alert, N.C.; three sisters, Vanessa (Marvin) Campbell of Bowie, Md., Phyllis (Clemie) Lee of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Renita Walker of St. Louis, Mo.; his father-in-law, Raymond Coley of Nashville; one brother-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Mr. Walker was born in Langdale and was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church. He graduated from Rehoboth High School. For more than 20 years, he was a truck driver.
His remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

MRS. HEARD
ROANOKE -- Mrs. Bertha L. Heard, 77, of Roanoke died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
Funeral services are scheduled Friday, Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with the Revs. S.T. Janney, Frank Sledge and Bobby Kirby officiating. Burial will follow in Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Heard is survived by four daughters, Linda Holloway and Jane Taylor Pate of Roanoke, Angela Bass of Wedowee and Mary Wilkins of Wadley; one son, Tony Heard of Wedowee; one sister, Alice Burner of Montague, N.J.; one brother, Alvin Emfinger of LaGrange; two special friends, Eddie Paul Fuller of Valley and Opal Drake of LaGrange; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
A Randolph County native, Mrs. Heard was born Dec. 20, 1926 to Henry Dee Emfinger and Zula Taylor. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and was a retired seamstress at Callaway Mills. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Leon Heard.
The family will receive friends at Quattlebaum Funeral Home in Roanoke Thursday, Aug. 26 from 4 to 8 p.m.
She will lie in state one hour before the funeral hour.

VALLEY -- Mrs. Iris Lonell Pettitt, 69, of Valley died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004 at Beverly Health Care in Lanett.
Funeral services are scheduled Saturday, Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Ray Hammock officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Pettitt is survived by three sons, Leonard Rackow of Warm Springs, Ga., Victor (Eva) Rackow of Lanett and Charles Lee Rackow of Valley; one daughter, Donna (Dan) Dalton of Warm Springs; one sister, Carolyn Sue Fowler of Warm Springs; two brothers, Leonard Donald (Jan) Smith of Cochran, Ga., and Guerry Eugene (Myra) Smith of Centerville, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, Daniel, Chelsie, Alysha, Eli, John Samuel, Isaiah and Nathan Rackow and Brandy, Jessica and Andy Wallis; and two great-grandchildren, Alexis Folds and Alex Rackow.
Born June 29, 1935 in Manchester, Ga., Mrs. Pettitt was the daughter of the late Loette Thompson Smith and Leonard William Smith. She was a homemaker and also sat with the elderly in their homes. Mrs. Pettitt had been in declining health for the past serveral years.

MRS. BRYANT
EATONTON, Ga. --Mrs. Sara Docia Bohler Bryant died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004 after a short illness.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. at Harmony Baptist Church in Eatonton. Burial followed in the Buckhead City Cemetery.
Mrs. Bryant is survived by her children, Joanne and Bill Webb of Albany, Ga., Carol and Don Eads of Palmetto, Ga., Wynette Bryant of Clarkston, Ga., and Barry and Marcia Bryant of Calhoun, Ga.; her grandchildren, Marsha and Michael Webb, Laura (Eads) and Andy Daughtry of Savannah, Ga., and Tori and Tucker Bryant; her great-grandchildren, Clay, Seth, Josh and Caroline Daughtry; and her brother, Robert Henry Bohler of Stone Mountain.
Mrs. Bryant spent her life loving and caring for her family and home and working in her church and local school. A long-time member of the T.O.P.S. Club, she became an assistant supervisor in May of 1967 and was promoted to supervisor in June, a position she held until 1973. She touched many lives and will be terribly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Wyman Jasper Bryant of Buckhead, Ga. She was born in Butler, Ga., in 1923 and grew up there and in Lanett. She later moved to Atlanta.
Donations may be made to Calhoun First Baptist's music ministry, Palmetto Children's Home or Harmony Baptist Church.

MR. COKER
VALLEY -- Mr. Joseph Allen Coker, 18, of River View died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004 at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham.
Funeral services were scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley with the Rev. Doug Blackmon officiating.
Mr. Coker is survived by his father, Charles L. (Angie) Coker Sr. of Valley; his mother, Kim Garrish of Bonifay, Fla.; six sisters, Donna Lynn Bowen of Lanett, Barbara Marie Coker of Valley, Elizabeth Ann Coker of Valley, Crystal Lynn Garrish of Marianna, Fla., Kimberly Joe Garrish of Marianna and Kelsey LeeAnn Garrish of Bonifay; two brothers, Charles Lester Coker Jr. of Valley and Robert Brian Elkins of Valley; two stepchildren, Sencorious Floyd of Salem, Ala., and Senecia Patten of Salem; his fiancee', Shanquarious Floyd of Salem; and his grandparents, William (Barbara) Coker of Valley, Jackie (Joyce) Cloud of Bonifay and Bobby (Janice) Bowen of Valley.
Born Dec. 28, 1985 in Valley, Mr. Coker loved cooking and his music. He enjoyed the outdoors, going to the beach and fishing.

MRS. LYNN
STATHAM, Ga. -- Mrs. Tavie Cheshire Lynn, 95, of Statham died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004.
Graveside services are scheduled Thursday, Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Lynn is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Rod Provost of Watkinsville, Ga.; two grandsons, Scott Provost of Athens and Mark and Laura Provost of Watkinsville; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew Provost and Katie Grace Provost, both of Watkinsville.
A native of Enterprise, Ala., she was a resident of Mulberry Grove in Statham for the last four years. She was the widow of W.B. Lynn. Mrs. Lynn was preceded in death by a daughter, Sylvia Gill.

MRS. GILBERT
LANETT -- Mrs. Louise Brand Gilbert, 84, of Lanett died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.
Funeral services are scheduled Monday, Aug. 23 at 4 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley with the Rev. Joyce R. Akridge officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mrs. Gilbert is survived by her grandson, Randy Gilbert of Valley, several nieces and nephews and a daughter-in-law, Betty Gilbert.
She was born Sept. 27, 1919 in Chambers County. Mrs. Gilbert was a retired employee of WestPoint Pepperell, and she was a devoted mother and sister. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Hoyt Gilbert, her son, Ronald David Gilbert, five sisters and one brother. Mrs. Gilbert was a member of Lanett First United Methodist Church.

MR. HANKS
SEMMES, Ala. -- Mr. Roy Webster Hanks, 64, of Semmes died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004 at his residence.
Graveside services are scheduled Wednesday, Aug. 25 at noon at Marseilles Cemetery in West Point with the Rev. Al Moore officiating.
Mr. Hanks is survived by his wife, Vicki N. Hanks; two daughters, Terri (Howard) Roberson of Milton, Fla., and Kim Floyd of Cummings, Ga.; a granddaughter, Kristi Roberson of Milton, Fla.; two sisters, Jane (Curtis) Moore of Lanett and Louise (Carl) Hinton of Fairfield, Calif. ; one brother, Bobby Gene (Nany) Hanks of Elkton, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hanks was born Dec. 31, 1939 in West Point. He was a former employee of the Celanese Chemical Company where he was a purchasing agent.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.

BIRMINGHAM -- Thelma Barnes Hill, 88, died Saturday, August 21, 2004 at Fairhaven Retirement Center in Birmingham, Ala.
Graveside services are scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 2:30 p.m. at the Shawmut Cemetery.
Mrs. Hill is survived by her sister, Mary Charles Bradfield of Valley; and several nieces and nephews.
A native of Ridge Grove, Mrs. Hill attended Jacksonville State Teachers College and graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute. She taught school for many years in Chambers County.
