LaGRANGE -- Funeral services are pending for Mr. Clifford Johnson Jr. of the New Harmony community, who died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Hospice LaGrange.

MRS. NEWMAN

VALLEY -- Mrs. Georgia Jean Newman, 87, of Valley died Monday, May 31, 2004 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, June 2 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Steve York officiating. Burial will follow in Fairfax Cemetery.

Mrs. Newman is survived by her husband, Charles Newman; one daughter, Rebecca Ann Newman of Valley; two sons, James B. Bishop of Valley and Gregory Reed of Ringgold, Ga.; one sister Billie Ashberry of Big Springs, Texas; one brother, Paul Story of Long View, Texas; and seven grandchildren, Chenel Brooks of Valley, Jennifer Bishop of Cusseta, Jodi Williamson of Auburn, Karmen Leavins of Lanett, Jacob Newman of Deltona, Fla., Brianna Newman of Deltona and Tony L. Smith of Lilburn, Ga.

Born Jan. 3, 1917 in Harris County, Ga., Mrs. Newman was the daughter of the late Clifford F. and Dona Yarbrough Story. She was a retired employee of Fairfax Mill. Mrs. Newman was a lifelong resident of the Valley area. She was a member of Fairfax First Baptist Church.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Fairfax First Baptist Church in her memory.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home of Valley.

MRS. DANIEL

KENNESAW -- Mrs. Jewell H. Daniel, 78, of Kennesaw, formerly of LaGrange and West Point, died Thursday, May 27, 2004 in Kennesaw.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 29 at 11 a.m. at Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange with the Rev. Joe Watson officiating.

She is survived by one son, Ben (Kathy) Daniel Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; one daughter, Judy Brendle of Kennesaw; one grandson, Bren Brendle of Kennesaw; and two sisters, Ilene Hancock and Vicie Holsombeck, both of LaGrange.

Mrs. Daniel was born July 30, 1925 in Randolph County, Ala., the daughter of the late James A. and Leona Huddleston Hancock. She was a homemaker and a loving mother. Mrs. Daniel was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in West Point. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin S. Daniel Sr.

The family will receive friends at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home in LaGrange one hour prior to Saturday's service.

MR. HOLLOWAY

FIVE POINTS -- Mr. Aldra Holloway Jr., 77, of Five Points died Monday, May 24, 2004 at his residence.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, May 30 at 2 p.m. CDT at Whitehall Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Vines officiating. Burial will follow in the Milltown Cemetery

Mr. Holloway is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sadie Mae Pearson Holloway of Five Points; three sons, Willie Radney (Latasha) Holloway of Las Vegas, Nev.; Gregory (Natalie) Holloway of Cambridge, Mass., and Jerome Holloway of Auburn; six daughters, Juanita Holloway Smith of Brooklyn N.Y., Sadie Pearl Holloway Gill of Memphis, Tenn., Gloria Ann Holloway Davis of Five Points, Diane (Marvin) Holloway Whigham of Jacksonville, Fla., Janice Holloway (Willie) Brazile of Huntsville, Ala., and Cheryl Maureen Holloway of Indianapolis, Ind.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Holloway was born July 23, 1926 in Chambers County. He was a member of Whitehall Baptist Church.

MR. TAYLOR

WEDOWEE -- Mr. James Willard Taylor, 76, of Wedowee died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 29 at 11 a.m. at Friendship Christian Church with the Revs. Joe Bob Traylor and Johnny Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, June Pollard Taylor; one daughter, Cynthia Taylor Lamutt of Marietta; two sons, Lawrence Taylor and Jerome Taylor of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Kyle Neal, Moriah Taylor, Kirby Neal, Becca Taylor, Hillary Taylor and Eli Taylor; one sister, Kathyrn Bailey of Lanett; four brothers, Thomas Taylor of Wedowee, Ronald Taylor and Wayne Taylor, both of Roanoke, and Winters Taylor of Woodland.

Mr. Taylor was born July 11, 1927, the son of Orvin Taylor and Florence Haynes Taylor. He was a member of Friendship Christian Church and was retired from Palm Beach Co.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Wedowee Friday, May 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. CDT.

MRS. ATKINSON

WEST POINT -- Mrs. Barbara Shippey Atkinson, 79, of West Point died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange.

Graveside memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, May 29 at 11 a.m. at Marseilles Cemetery with Dr. Jerome King officiating.

Mrs. Atkinson is survived by her husband, Joseph H. Atkinson of West Point; one daughter, Julie (James) Bruckner of Alamosa, Colo.; one sister-in-law, Mary Frances Atkinson of LaGrange; two nieces, Martha Mackey of Rocky Face, Ga., and Mary Lee Brown of LaGrange; one nephew, Nathan Atkinson IV of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three adopted grandchildren, Smitha Rao, Supria Rao and Ramesh Rao, all of West Point; one cousin, Florine Henderson of West Point; and special friends, Don and Vanni Rao of West Point, Dot Billingslea of West Point and Vi Hudmon of West Point.

Born in Fairfax July 13, 1924, Mrs. Atkinson was the daughter of the late Julia Kirkpatrick Shippey and James C. Shippey. She was a graduate of West Point High School and attended Auburn University. She worked a number of years as secretary-bookkeeper for the former Heard-Williams Co. in West Point. Her skills as a cook and with knitting have won her high praise. She had also done some modeling in the West Point area. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Shippey. Mrs. Atkinson was of the Methodist faith.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Chattahoochee Hospice of Valley or to the food closed at West Point First Baptist Church.

MASTER JONES

LANETT -- Master Jamal (Zae) Xavier Jones, 8, of Lanett died Monday, May 24, 2004 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, May 28 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church Family Life Center in Lanett with the Revs. Lewis Upshaw, Eugene Cooks, Rodney Jones, B. Williams and Mammie Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett.

Master Jones is survived by his mother, Allegra Jones of Lanett; his father, Jimmy Williams of West Point; one sister, Alexis Jones of Lanett; two step-sisters; four step brothers; his grandfather, Otis Jones Sr. of Lanett; his grandmother, Margarette Shelly of Lanett; grandparents, Helen Jones and Phillip Chappell, both of Lanett, and Earnest (Nellie Ruth) Williams of LaFayette; eight aunts, Lisa (Ivan) Libson of Columbus, Libby (James) Scott, Clemteria Portor, Clememtine Hutchinson, Angelia Williams, Rosalyn Williams, Elaine Evans and Alica Willis, all of Lanett; five uncles, Otis (Tammy) Jones Jr. of West Point, Dexter St. George of Auburn, Daniel (Wanda) Williams of LaFayette and Roger (Freda) Williams of Lanett.

Master Jones was born Oct. 27, 1995. He attended Central Elementary School where he was promoted to the third grade. He was intrigued with electronics and loved motorcycles.

The body will lie in state at the Mt. Hermon Family Life Center from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour.

LANETT -- Funeral services are pending for Ms. Jessie Brooks of Lanett, who died at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital Wednesday, May 26, 2004.

MRS. CARR

LANETT -- Mrs. Sara Carr, 68, of Lanett died Friday, May 21, 2004 at the Columbus Medical Center in Columbus, Ga.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, May 27 at 1 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church in Lanett with the Rev. Jackie Banks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Carr is survived by two sons, Benjamin Carr and Johnny (Martha) Carr, both of Lanett; three daughters, Dorothy Boyd, Doris (Leon) Gipson and Delores Carr, all of Lanett; one sister, Lavonia Spence of Lanett; and 12 grandchildren.

Born May 9, 1936, Mrs. Carr was a member of New Zion Baptist Church.

The remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

THE REV. ADAMS

HOUSTON, Texas -- The Rev. Lee Marriner Adams, rector emeritus of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Houston, died Saturday, April 3, 2004 while surrounded by his family.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 6 at 10 a.m. at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Houston. Graveside services followed at San Jacinto Memorial Cemetery.

The Rev. Adams is survived by his wife, Barbara Hunt Adams; four daughters, Judith Adams Johnson of Oak Hill, Va., Susan Adams of Oak Hill, Va., Diana Lynn Adams Ramirez of Houston and Nancy Adams Dawlearn of Humble; his sons-in-law, Larry Johnson, Fred Ramirez and David Dawlearn; three grandchildren, Sheridan Johnson, Lucas Johnson and Noah Dawlearn; his brother, Paul Adams Jr. and his wife, Jill, of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Born Feb. 28, 1927, the Rev. Adams graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, the University of Texas at Austin and the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Va.

He served as the rector at All Saints Episcopal Church in Galena Park from 1975 until 1982, and then as the rector at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in east Houston until his retirement in 1989. He also served Episcopal churches in Goliad, Kenedy, Meranrd, Ft. McKavett, Beeville, Abilene and West Point, Ga.

He was a long-time member of the Lion's Club, the Rotary Club, Toastmasters, the International Seaman's Center, the Brotherhood of St. Andrew, and the Mom's Diner Breakfast Club. He was awarded the Commander's Award for Public Service by the Department of the Army for dedication to the Army and to the defense and freedom of this nation. His hobbies included books and miniature soldiers. He was an active supporter of the University of Texas at Austin. Hook 'em Horns! He was the son of the late Paul and Judith Marriner Adams of San Antonio.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Timothy's Episcopal Church Building Fund or the Gideon Society, P.O. Box 328, Galena Park, Texas, 77547.

MRS. BELL

ROANOKE -- Mr. Lunora Watts Bell, 79, of Roanoke died Friday, April 2, 2004 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 7 at 1 p.m. at Deliverance Temple Church of the Living God in Roanoke with the Rev. Michael Goss officiating. Burial will follow in the Rocky Mount Cemetery in Roanoke.

Mrs. Bell is survived by two daughters, Mary Bell (Willie) Bass and Rebecca Jones, both of Roanoke; two sons, Johnny (Fannie) Bell and the Rev. James Emory Bell, both of Roanoke; three sisters-in-law, Clemmie Bell and Ora D. Gould, both of Atlanta, and Zera Bell of Roanoke; two brothers-in-law, John C. Bell of Roanoke and Richard Wynn of Cleveland, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-granchildren; one great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Born Oct. 17, 1924, Mrs. Bell was a native of Randolph County. Her religious training began at Rocky Mount Methodist Church in Roanoke. She later moved to Newark, N.J,. where she started her own ministry. She founded the Fire Baptize Believers Holiness Church where she was the pastor for more than 10 years. She later returned to her native home, and for the next 20 years was the pastor of Fire Baptize Believers Holiness Church in Roanoke.

MRS. BRANCH

VALLEY -- Mrs. Elizabeth Smith Branch, 87, of Valley died Monday, April 5, 2004 her residence.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 7 at 4 p.m. in the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with Dr. Kenneth Overby officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Branch is survived by a son, Danny (Brenda) Branch of Valley; three daughters, Martha (Tony) Ritcherson of Lanett, Cynthia (Rex) Miller of Danville, Va., and Patty (Jeff) Oliver of Rome, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Beth Branch, Alex Branch, Mandy (Michael) Williams, Elisa (Brent) Little, Wesley Miller, Tabitha (Jody) Yarbrough and Russell Miller; a step-grandson, Gary (Michelle) Mouriski; four great-grandchildren, Kristian Mouriski, Kadi Mouriski, Lauryn Mouriski and Aiden Williams; a sister, Josie Resberry of Florala, Ala.; and two brothers, Noel Smith and Leamon Smith, both of Clay County, Ala.

Born May 7, 1916 in Clay County, Mrs. Branch was a member of West End Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of West Point Pepperell with more than 32 years of service with the company. She died Monday morning following several years of declining health. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel W. Branch; her parents, Roland W. and Clara Kennedy Smith; two sisters, Dicie Jane Black and Rubie Bence; and her brothers, Bob Lee Smith and C.P. Smith.

The family will receive friends Tuesday April 6 from 5-7 p.m. at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in her memory to the charity of one's choice.
