MR. YATES

LANETT -- Mr. William E. Yates Sr., 78, of Lanett died Monday morning, Feb. 9, 2004 at his residence.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with Pastor Jim Luttrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Fredonia Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Yates is survived by his wife, Rudine Thompson Yates; three daughters, Wanda (Johnny) Smith of Kodak, Tenn., Cindy (Bryan) Bentley of Cedartown, Ga., and Christy Yates of St. Augustine, Fla.; one brother, Arthur M. Yates of Mobile, Ala.; one sister, Velma Shirey of Valley; three granddaughters, Karen (Troy) Kelley of Sevierville, Tenn., Crystal (William) Lashley of Huntingdon, Tenn., and Katherine Bentley of Cedartown; and one great-grandson, William Jonah Kelley of Sevierville.

Born Nov. 9, 1925 in Tallassee, Ala., Mr. Yates loved his family very much and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was the former owner and operator of the Yates Grocery Store in the Lakeview Community. Mr. Yates was a member of Community Chapel Church of God in Lanett. He was the son of the late Maud Fortune Yates and Jesse Leonard Yates.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice in his memory.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Feb. 10 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

MR. HARDNETT

DAVISTON, Ala. -- Mr. Josh Hardnett, 93, of Daviston died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 at his residence.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. (CST) at Coga Hill C.M.E. Church in Daviston with the Rev. James Carlisle officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Hardnett is survived by his wife, Emma Hardnett of Daviston; five daughters, Moline Rowe of Daviston, Gladys Staples and Louise Thomas, both of Wadley, Ala., and Pauline Walker and Mable Nkanta, both of Queens, N.Y.; one son, Vernon (Nina Mae) Hardnett of Roanoke, Ala.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Born Jan. 1, 1911, Mr. Hardnett was a lifelong resident of Tallapoosa County, Ala. He was a member of Coga Hill C.M.E. Church in Daviston.

MRS. POLLOCK

LAGRANGE -- Mrs. Lellie Brumbeloe Pollock, 92, of LaGrange, formerly of Lanett, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. (EST) at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel in Lanett with the Rev. Tim Irwin officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Pollock is survived by two step-daughters, Ellen Heggood of Columbus, Ga., and Peggy Davis of Phenix City, Ala.; one step-daughter-in-law, Frankie Pollock of Columbus; nieces Elsie Grogran of Pine Mountain, Ga., Betty Wingard of Opelika, Ala., Reudene Moncus of Fitzgerald, Ga., Joyce Hart of Pine Mountain and others; nephews B.H. Brumbeloe, Durward Brumbeloe, Edgar Brumbeloe, Kenneth Brumbeloe and others; six step-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchiild.

Born Jan. 16, 1912 in Randolph County, Mrs. Pollock was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Troup County Senior Citizen Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Pollock Sr.

The family will receive friends Monday, Feb. 9 from 6 until 8 p.m. (EST) at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lanett.

MR. BULLARD

LAFAYETTE -- Mr. Hilyard Carl Bullard Sr., 85, of LaFayette died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004 at his residence.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with Pastor Ricky Lipp and the Rev. Shon Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett.

Mr. Bullard is survived by his wife, Georgia Jones Bullard; two daughters, Wanda (Wayne) Lloyd of LaFayette and Verlinda (Bill) Herrington of Pine Mountain, Ga.; two sons, Donald (Ann) Bullard and Carl (Mary) Bullard, both of Lanett; a special niece, Sandra Kay (Fred) Shaver of Columbus, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Born July 8, 1918 in Chambers County, Mr. Bullard was a retired employee of WestPoint Pepperell's Lanett Mill, with over 40 years of service with the company. He was a member of the Lion of Judah Church in Huguley. Mr. Bullard was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Bullard. He was the son of the late Bertha Lackey Bullard and J.W. Bullard.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Chattahoochee Hospice in his memory.

CAMP HILL, Ala. -- Mr. Roger Hicks Sr., 45, of Camp Hill died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Ala.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. at Centerview Baptist Church in Camp Hill with the Rev. Donald Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Hicks is survived by a loving wife, Nora Black Hicks of Camp Hill; a loving mother, Myra Hicks of Camp Hill; three sons, Roger Hicks Jr., Isaiah Hicks and Kodi Hicks, all of Camp Hill; two daughters, Whitney Hicks of Camp Hill and Kinyetta Hicks of Opelika; five sisters, Lillie Hicks and Joann (Willie) Bryant, both of Camp Hill, Pauline Ware of Auburn, Ala., Eddie Acosta of Long Beach, Calif., and Carolyn Hicks of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, Ricky Hicks of Camp Hill; a father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Jannie Black of Camp Hill; two granddaughters, Takajah and Taquajah, both of Camp Hill; three sisters-in-law, Ditiz Hicks of Lanett, Connie (Stacy) Pressley of Camp Hill, and Deborah (John) Ivery of Houston, Texas; a best friend, Tony Hill of Camp Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Born May 20, 1958 in Tallapoosa County, Ala., Mr. Hicks was a 1976 graduate of LaFayette High School. He was employed with ATS Wheels in Auburn. Mr. Hicks was a member of Centerview Baptist Church in Camp Hill.

WEST POINT -- Funeral services are pending for Mr. John Thomas (Tom) Morgan Jr., 93, of West Point, who died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004 at his residence.

MRS. WILLIAMS

LAFAYETTE -- Mrs. Annie Lou Williams, 92, of LaFayette died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. CST at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in LaFayette with the Rev. Michael T. Stiggers officiating. Burial will follow in Handy Cemetery in LaFayette.

Mrs. Williams is survived by three daughters, Annie P. Vines, Betty Smith and Dorothy Nell Williams, all of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Mattie E. Armstead of LaFayette, Geneva Scott of Atlanta, Ga., and Naomi Brooks of Hartford, Conn.; a very special extended family: Bill and Maxine Frazer and family of West Point; 20 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Born July 11, 1912 in Chambers County, Mrs. Williams was the fourth child of seven sisters and six brothers. She was a very active member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where she served faithfully as supervisor/director of the Junior Missionary Society, a member of the senior choir, and as a hostess for the kitchen committee. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Williams. She was the daughter of the late the Rev. Marcus and Sister Laura Darden.

The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 6 from 6 until 7 p.m. at Vines Funeral Home Chapel in LaFayette.

MR. DeLEE

WADLEY, Ala. -- Mr. Herbert DeLee, 70, of Wadley died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 at his residence.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. at Community Baptist Church in LaFayette with the Rev. Clifford DeLee officiating. Burial will follow in the Five Points Cemetery.

Mr. DeLee is survived by his wife, Mary Anne DeLee of Wadley; seven children, Jessica Amber Poore and Jeremy Brent Sheppard, both of Wadley, Justin Miles of Valley, Clinton (Anita) Royster, Robbie (Cheryl) Royster and Anne (Bill) Callahan, all of LaFayette, and Debra Hornsby of Langdale; one sister, Fannie Mae Ward of LaGrange; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born March 20, 1933 in Chambers County, Mr. DeLee was retired from the Chambers County Board of Education. He was a member of Community Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 5 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Jeff Jones Funeral Home in LaFayette.

VALLEY -- Mr. James Harold Jones Sr., 72, of Valley died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 at his residence.

A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. (EST) at Shady Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Simmons officiating.

Mr. Jones is survived by three sons, Milton Ray Jones of Valley, Bobby Byron Jones of Lanett and James H. Jones Jr. of Prattville, Ala.; one brother, Cecil Jones of Auburn, Ala.; four sisters, Bertha Thomaston of Opelika, Ala., Ruby Simmons of Lake Harding, Ala., Mary Kenady of Valley and Lorene Adams of Franklin, Ga.; his companion and best friend for over 12 years, Neanie Bryan of Valley; his friend, Cilla Clark of Opelika; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Born Jan. 24, 1932 in Troup County, Ga., Mr. Jones loved to hunt and fish. He was a wonderful man who was kind to everybody. He loved car racing. Mr. Jones was the son of the late William Henry Jones and Eldora Lashley Jones.

MR. PHILLIPS

LAFAYETTE -- Mr. Willie Luther Phillips, 80, of LaFayette died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004 at his home.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. at New Harmony Baptist Church in LaFayette with W.H. Trammell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alberta Phillips; four sons, the Rev. William (Georgia Ann) Phillips and Kenneth (Nenette) Phillips, both of Roanoke, Ala., Raymond (Jackie) Phillips of Oxford, Ala., and Bennie Higgins of LaFayette; two daughters, Denia J. Crosby of Crestwood, Ky., and Bernice Holman of Birmingham, Ala.; one brother, Walter (Lera) Phillips of Roanoke; three sisters, Dera Phillips, Vera Heath and Evelyn Gates, all of Roanoke; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Born May 10, 1923 in Chambers County, Mr. Phillips was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Wadley. He was the son of the late Willie and Mattie L. Phillips.

FT. PAYNE, Ala. -- Mr. Dorsey Ray Wood, 62, of Ft. Payne, formerly of Valley, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Ala.

Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. (EST) at Resthaven Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Cook officiating.

Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Agnes Lenora Smith Wood; two daughters, Sherri Wood Hardwick of Ft. Payne and Sharon Wood (Tracy) McLemore of Opelika, Ala.; two sons, Gregory Ray (Susan) Wood of Roanoke and Gerald Wayne (Jennifer) Wood of Opelika; his mother, Girtie Mae Wood of Valley; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Born Aug. 13, 1941 in Randolph County, Ala., Mr. Wood retired from the Ampex Corporation in 2003 after 36 years of service with the company. He was a member of Friendship Christian Church. He was the son of the late Charlie H. Wood.

MR. BILLINGSLEY

VALLEY -- Mr. Willie Lewis Billingsley Sr., 69, of Valley died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004 at Capitol Nursing Home in Montgomery, Ala.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 5 at 1:30 p.m. (EST) at Foreman Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Louis Upshaw officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Valley.

Mr. Billingsley is survived by his wife, Jimmie Mae Billingsley; five daughters, Clenza Billingsley and Stacey Ricks, both of Lanett, Phyllis Billingsley, Jean (O'Neal) Hutchinson Jr. and Tracey Ricks, all of Valley; two sons, Willie (Phyllis) Billingsley and Jimmy Frank Billingsley, both of Lanett; one daughter-in-law, Tarwado Anderson of LaGrange; a host of cousins and friends; 22 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Born June 16, 1934 in Chambers County, Mr. Billingsley has been a resident of Valley all of his life. He was employed at Langdale Mill where he was a hard worker for 37 years. He was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church in Valley. Mr. Billingsley was preceded in death by his daughter, Ophelia Billingsley.
