MRS. STANFIELD

VALLEY -- Mrs. Mildred F. Stanfield, 85, of Valley died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Ala.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. (EST) at Fairfax First Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve York officiating. Burial will follow in Fairfax Cemetery.

Mrs. Stanfield is survived by her husband, Harold Stanfield; one daughter, Suzanne (Terry) Harris of Auburn, Ala.; one son, David H. (Christy) Stanfield of Lanett; one brother, Pete (Barbara) Finch of Gastonia, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Jeff Stanfield of Atlanta, Ga., Anna Harris (Jay) Hovey of Newnan, Ga., and Jonathan Harris of Auburn.

Born July 29, 1918 in Fairfax, Mrs. Stanfield was a homemaker and had been a very active member of Fairfax First Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Beulah Mae Freeman Finch and James Thomas Finch.

The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers and asks that memorials be made to Fairfax First Baptist Church in her memory.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 6 until 8 p.m. (EST) at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

VALLEY -- Funeral services are pending for Mr. Willie (Junior) Bailey, 73, of Valley, who died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

MRS. BIRCHFIELD

VALLEY -- Mrs. Getter Margarett King Birchfield, 81, of Valley died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Ala.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. (EST) at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel in Lanett with the Rev. Dennis Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Birchfield is survived by three daughters, Delores Coxwell of Powder Springs, Ga., Keturah Ogletree of Ireland and Tori Williams of Roswell, Ga.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Born Oct. 25, 1922 in Georgia, Mrs. Birchfield was a member of Huguley Methodist Church, the Pilot Club and the Beulah Home Makers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Birchfield.

MR. COULTER

VALLEY -- Mr. Tyre Nelson Coulter, 82, of Valley died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003 at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tuskegee, Ala.

Graveside services are scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Coulter is survived by one daughter, Frances Wylone (Steve) Rogers of Byron, Ga.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Born Jan. 12, 1921 in Chambers County, Mr. Coulter was a veteran of World War II, where he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He retired from WestPoint Stevens Lantuck Division where he had over 40 years of service with the company. He had been in declining health for the past several years. Mr. Coulter was a member of River View First Christian Church. He was the son of the late Era Williams Coulter and Tom Coulter.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery.

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Funeral services are pending for Mr. Henry Johnson of Atlanta, formerly of Lanett, who died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003 at Park View Nursing Home in Atlanta.

MRS. STORY

LAFAYETTE -- Mrs. Shirley Ann Trammell Story, 56, of LaFayette died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Ala.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. (CST) at White Hall Missionary Baptist Church in LaFayette with the Rev. Ed Vines officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Story is survived by her mother, Mrs. Pauline White Holloway of LaFayette; one son, Willie Richard (Sada) Story Jr. of LaFayette; one step-daughter, Adrienne Towels of LaFayette; three sisters, Sylvia Holloway and Fannie (Tyrone) Holloway, both of LaFayette, and JoAnn (Bill) Whitlow of New York, N.Y.; four brothers, Walter (Pansy) Holloway, Jerry Holloway, George (Pam) Holloway and Elton Holloway, all of LaFayette; and three grandchildren.

Born June 15, 1947 in Chambers County, Mrs. Story was a member of Powell Chapel United Methodist Church.

MR. UNDERWOOD

VALLEY -- Mr. Donald Bruce Underwood, 63, of Valley died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003 at his residence.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with Dr. Jerome King officiating. Burial followed in Shawmut Cemetery.

Mr. Underwood is survived by one daughter, Leigh Ann (Tony) Jackson of Valley; his mother, Emily M. Underwood of Elmore County, Ala.; two aunts, Susie Hammack of Valley and Katherine McQueen of Wetumpka, Ala.; and numerous cousins.

Born Feb. 19, 1940 in Chambers County, Mr. Underwood had been a member of the Alabama National Guard and had worked for WestPoint Stevens for over 30 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shawmut. He was the son of the late Theodore Underwood.

MR. BUTLER

LANETT -- Mr. Otis Wesley Butler, 79, of Lanett died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

Graveside services are scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett with the Rev. Howard Merchant officiating.

Mr. Butler is survived by his wife, Florence E. Butler; one son, Larry (Audrey) Butler of Lanett; one daughter, Carol Ann (Joe) Pasley of Alexander City; one sister, Ruby B. Yates of Fredonia; three grandchildren, Heidi Carter of Childersburg, Ala., Stephanie Bonner of Lanett and Justin Slack of Athens, Tenn.; one nephew, Jimmy (Debbie) Butler of LaFayette; and six great-grandchildren.

Born in Griffin, Ga., on April 28, 1924, Mr. Butler loved his family and enjoyed fishing. He played the guitar and enjoyed sitting under a cedar tree that he and his wife had planted. He was a veteran of World War II where he served with the 10th Infantry in the United States Army. Mr. Butler served in Northern France and in Central Europe and received the Purple Heart medal, five Bronze Star medals and five Battle Stars.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Lanett First Christian Church in his memory.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Lanett.

VALLEY -- Mrs. Brandi Michelle Clifton, 27, of Valley died Thursday morning, Dec. 4, 2003 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. at Happy Valley Baptist Church with the Revs. Rusty Letson and Floyd Aikens officiating. Burial will follow in Fairfax Cemetery.

Mrs. Clifton is survived by her husband, Michael Clifton; two sons, Logan Clifton and Cade Clifton of Valley; her parents, Greg and Wynette Tilley of Valley; one sister, Crystal (David) Smith of Valley; her maternal grandmother, Laverne McNair of Valley; her maternal grandfather, Joe Stewart of Valley; her maternal grandparents, George and Ethel Willingham of Roanoke, Ala.; her paternal grandparents, Bryson and Jeanette Tilley of Lanett; and her paternal great-grandmother, Bessie Tilley of Valley.

Born Dec. 27, 1975 in Valley, Mrs. Clifton was employed with WestPoint Stevens Corporate office. She was a member of Happy Valley Baptist Church.

LANETT -- Mrs. Vera Mae (Adams) Combs, 83, of Lanett died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. (EST) at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in LaFayette with the Rev. Michael T. Stiggers officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Lanett.

Mrs. Combs is survived by a devoted husband, Wash Combs of Lanett; two sons, Alfred Combs and Ralph (Velvilan) Combs of Lanett; two daughters, Dorothy C. Brock and Barbara Ann (Johnny) Hurston of Lanett; three sisters, Mary L. Dillard of Waukegan, Ill., Lola L. Barnes of LaGrange and Johnnie Mae (Charlie) Jackson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two brothers, Monroe (Ethel) Adams and Herbert (Cora) Adams of Chattanooga; one uncle, James Howell of Anniston, Ala.; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

McDONOUGH, Ga. -- Mr. Donald Lee Hudmon, 65, of McDonough died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Cannon-Cleveland Funeral Directors in McDonough with the Rev. Larry Moss officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Barrow Memorial Gardens in Winder, Ga.

Mr. Hudmon is survived by his wife, Sue Hudmon; two sons, Donnie Hudmon of Griffin and Ronnie Hudmon of McDonough; his mother, Mary Hill Hudmon of Lanett; one brother, Billy Hudmon of Lanett; one sister, Genelle Wallace of Greenwood, S.C.; and one grandchild.

Mr. Hudmon was a truck driver and a member of Living Word Worship Center.

MRS. McCLENDON

LaFAYETTE -- Mrs. Kate McClendon, 96, of LaFayette died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at Russell Medical Center in Alexander City.

Graveside services are scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. at LaFayette City Cemetery with the Revs. Charles Whitson and Clifford DeLee officiating.

Mrs. McClendon is survived by two daughters, Nell Smith of Lanett and Sandra Newberry of Alexander City; a son, Clyde McClendon Jr. of LaFayette; two sisters, Sarah Hansen of Lake Martin, Ala., and Ruth Thomas of Lynchburg, Va.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Born in Chambers County on Oct. 10, 1907, Mrs. McClendon was a member of LaFayette Heights Baptist Church. She was retired from Avondale Mills. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Annie Williams.

Visitation will be held at Jeff Jones Funeral Home in LaFayette on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 5 until 7 p.m.

MRS. TODD

LaFAYETTE -- Mrs. Gloria Vines Todd, 80, of LaFayette died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003 at Bethany House in Auburn.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. at the Ozias Missionary Baptist Church in Camp Hill with the Revs. O.C. Stiggers and Stanford Johnson officiating. Burial will following in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Todd is survived by her husband, Willie Kirk Todd; five daughters, Debra Yvonne Todd of Tuskegee, Bettye K. Todd of Montgomery, Charlotte LaJune Todd of LaFayette, Karen J. Todd of New Orleans and Crystal L. Todd of Huntsville, Ala.; one son Gabriel F. Todd of LaFayette; two precious grandsons, Roland LaVert Todd of Tuskegee and Ian Daniel Gammage of New Orleans; two sisters, Christine Vines Pryor of New York City and F. Maxine Vines Dockery of Buffalo, N.Y.; one brother, Fred Vines of LaFayette; one sister-in-law, Mae Emma Phillips Vines of LaFayette; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Todd retired from the Chambers County Board of Education where she worked as a teacher for more than 30 years. She was active in the National Education Association and upon retirement, she joined the Retired Teachers Association, where she was a active member who served as treasurer, delegate, representative and lobbyist.

She was an active member of the Chambers County Alabama State University Alumni Association. She served as a PTA member. An active member of Ozias Missionary Baptist church, Mrs. Todd served as president of the Missionary Society. She served as second vice president of the Bowen East District Women's Association of Alabama and regularly attended the annual National Baptist Association meetings and the Home Benevolent Club. She was a member of the Chambers County Area Vocational Center Advisory Board, the Alabama Democratic Council, the Emancipation Proclamation Annual Program Committee and the LaGrange Chapter of Links Inc.

Mrs. Todd attended Tuskegee University and received her bachelor's degree from Alabama State University in Montgomery. She received several awards and recognitions and served as the grand marshal of the 1996 LaFayette Christmas Parade in appreciation of her 27 years as a band booster.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Dec. 7 from 5:30 until 7 p.m. at Vines Funeral Home Chapel in LaFayette.
