MASON, Weltha Corine Loftin, age 98, a resident of Montgomery, AL, died Sunday, November 10, 2002. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at 11:00 am in the Danielville Baptist Church with the Reverend Joel Snell and the Reverend William Burns officiating. Interment will follow in the Danielville Baptist Church with Harrison Funeral Home of Greenville Directing. Visitation will be held Monday, November 11, 2002 from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm at Harrison Funeral Home. Survivors include: her children: Corine Mason T. Burkett, Montgomery, AL, Vernon Mason, Honoraville, AL, Earnest Mason, Greenville, AL; 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Mason was preceded in death by: her husband, Herbert F. Mason; son, Hubert H. Mason and granddaughter, Cindy Mason Daniel.

EMBRY, Ms. Carrie, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, expired Monday, November 25, 2002 at her resident, 5326 West Shade Valley Dr. Funeral arrangements and survivors will be announced later by E. G. Cummings Memorial Funeral Home, Inc.

GARDNER, Mr. Jim, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, expired on Friday, November 22, 2002 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. from First Baptist Church Greater Washington Park with Rev. Willie Welch, III, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow in The Lincoln Cemetery with E. G. Cummings Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. Directing. The body will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the church.

MARSHALL, Preston Franklin, Sr.

MARSHALL, Preston Franklin, Sr., a long-time resident of Montgomery, died Sunday morning, November 24 at the age of 79. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at Alabama Heritage Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Wayne Baker officiating. Internment will follow at the Alabama Heritage Cemetery. Born December 27, 1922, in Pike County, Georgia, he was one of six children. He attended West Georgia College. He served two years in the U. S. Navy and was aboard a mine sweeper in the Normandy Invasion. He came to Montgomery in 1945 and was in the roofing business for many years. He is survived by Mary Ella (Nee Wright), his wife of 55 years. Other survivors include his four children, Preston Franklin Marshall, Jr., (Cindy), Montgomery, Susan Tippins (John), Atlanta, Cathy Gilder (Scott), Mt. Meigs, Leigh Paulk (Jeffrey), Montgomery; three granddaughters, Ashley Siegel (Scott), Lindsay Lupo and Allison Dees and four grandsons, Bret Paulk, Jason Paulk, John Tippins and Jeffrey Tippins. Pallbearers will be Kirk McClurkin, Davy McClurkin, Tommy Pinkston, Ron Cox, Johnny Jones and Curt Pemberton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. George Handey, Dr. Dent Williams and Alan Worrell. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to AGAPE, 334-2729466.

MEYER, Sunshine D.

MEYER, Sunshine D., passed away peacefully at age 90, on November 22, 2002. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Carl F. Meyer. She is survived by her children, Allan (Patricia), Thomas and Mary Beth (Ray).

She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Joan, Jeffrey, Richard, Amy, Kristen, Melinda, Kevin and Heidi; great-grandchildren, Emilyn, Cassie and Maya Sunshine; and her extended family, The Administrators and Staff of Angels For The Elderly.

Visitation for Mrs. Meyer will be at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home, 10505 Atlanta Hwy., Montgomery, Alabama from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bede The Venerable Catholic Church, 3870 Atlanta Highway, Montgomery, Rev. David Tokarz, Celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to the Sunshine D. Meyer Memorial Fund to serve the Mission of Angels For The Elderly, 44 Angels Court, Montgomery, Alabama, 36109.

SIKES, Maude Hendley

SIKES, Maude Hendley, 93, died November 23rd at Crowne Health Care Nursing Home in Montgomery after a lengthy illness. A native of Franklin, Heard County, Georgia, she had lived most of her life in Bainbridge, Georgia, moving to Montgomery in 1983. She had worked as a secretary, stenographer and bookkeeper and had taught in public schools in Georgia and New Mexico. For 27 years she assisted her husband in the operation of Sikes’ Grist Mill in Bainbridge.

At the time of her death she was a member of Capitol Heights Baptist Church in Montgomery. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, James T. Sikes, in 1999. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lowell B. and Marian C. Sikes of Montgomery and grandson, Derek Warren Sikes of Spring Creek, Nevada.

Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Warren Culver at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 27th. Burial will follow at Alabama Heritage Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. immediately preceding the funeral.

ADAMS, Violette D., 81, a resident of Montgomery, AL, died Saturday, November 23, 2002. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Winston Brooks officiating. Mrs. Adams was a member of McGehee Road Baptist Church and was retired from Gayfers Department Store. She is preceded in death by her husband, James H. Adams and her daughter, Donna Sanders. She is survived by her children, Jim (Glenda) Adams, John (Shay) Adams and Lisa (David) Saunders; Jerry Sanders; grandchildren, Courtney and Whitney Adams, Tabitha and Steve Ragsdale, Brett Adams, Sam and Shana Sanders, Steve and Tracy Sanders, Stae and Heather Sanders, Benjamin Saunders, Joseph Saunders and Jonathan Saunders; great-grandchildren, Alina Brooke Ragsdale, Matthew Ragsdale, Chrystal Sanders, Kelli Sanders, Issac Sanders, Jace Sanders, Abby Sanders, Jon Hayden Sanders and Lakin Sanders; three sisters, Myrtle Rhodes, Launa Limbrick and Arrie Lee Bowman. Active Pallbearers will be Stae Sanders, Steve Sanders, Sam Sanders, Brett Adams, Benjamin Saunders, Joseph Saunders and Jonathan Saunders. Honorary Pallbearers will be the deacons of McGehee Road Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Alzheimer’s Foundation. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Leak-Memory Chapel.

GULLEY, John Jackson, Jr.

GULLEY, John Jackson, Jr., 80, a resident of Montgomery, AL, died Sunday, November 24, 2002. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 from Greenwood Cemetery. Friends and family will assemble at the graveside. Visitation will be held Monday, November 25, 2002 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Leak Memory Chapel. Survivors include his wife, Roberta Mae Gulley; two sons, John J. Gulley, III and Bruce Gulley; three grandchildren, Tina Scott (Penn), John J. Gulley, IV and Cynthia Gulley; several nieces and nephews, Barbara Lee Davis, Andy Pinson and Ruby Byrd. Pallbearers will be Penn Scott, Robert Pinson, Bobby Davis, Jerry Lindsey, Wayne Morris and Geoff Conway.

JENNINGS, Percy Griffen (Pete), Jr.

JENNINGS, Percy Griffen (Pete), Jr., a resident of Montgomery since 1974 died on Sunday, November 24, 2002 at Jackson Hospital after a brief illness. Pete honorably served 30 years in the United States Air Force and retired CMSgt. in 1978 from Maxwell Air Force Base. He went on to spend 15 years in the Civil Service at Maxwell AFB from which he retired in 1993.

Pete was also a member of the Eureka Lodge No. 317, A.F. & A.M. of Elizabeth City, NC.

Pete, a loving husband and father is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Marjorie Jennings; one sister, Mrs. Shirley Culpepper of Lady Lake, FL; two daughters and son-in-laws, Carol and Ronald Helms of Archdale, NC and Cynthia and David Evans of Myrtle Beach, SC; one honorary daughter, Denise Wager of Mobile, AL; four grandchildren, David Helms and wife Tina, Heather Dills and husband Boomer, Jonathan Evans and Sara Evans; one honorary granddaughter, Cheri Hill and husband Van and two great grandchildren, Haily and Shelby Helms.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Percy G. Jennings, Sr. and sisters Mrs. Aubrey Kirkwood and Mrs. Florence Myers.

Pallbearers will be David Helms, Jonathan Evans, Don Robbins, Jim Wilson, Ron Brownell and Ralph Rhye.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. from Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Chuck Francisco officiating.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2002 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Leak-Memory.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be to one’s favorite charity.

METCALF, Billy Mack, 67, a resident of Montgomery, AL, died Sunday, November 24, 2002. Funeral services will be held from Leak-Memory Chapel on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark Raughton officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Frances Metcalf; two sons, Butch Metcalf (Lisa) and Mitch Metcalf (Debbie); one daughter, Mendy Horne (Trip); three grandchildren, Tyler, Amy and Austin Metcalf; three brothers, Harold Metcalf, Charles Metcalf and Wyatt Metcalf; six sisters, Margie Age, Kate Godman, Betty Fleming, Dora Francis McKane, Elaine Knight, Janice Lambert and a host of relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Harold Metcalf, Charles Metcalf, Wyatt Metcalf, Jimmy Croak, Jerry Conway, Gordan Mayhew, Leroy Brose and Charles Owens. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe O’Neill and Eddie Scott.
