WIMPEE, Dr. Charles W., 73, a residsent of Montgomery, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004. Funeral services will be Sunday, July 25th at 3:30 p.m. from Eastmont Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Northcutt and Reverend Johnny Salter officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Doctor Wimpee is survived by his beloved wife, Velma S. Wimpee; four daughters, Cindy Fincher (Donnie), Nancy Nobles (Wayne), Jeanne Burruss (George) and Terri Walker (Lee); three sons, John Wimpee (Stephanie), Dale Reese (Roxanne) and Wendell Dailey (Nancy); sister, Martha Ann Wallace of Colorado Springs, CO; nine grandchildren, Chase and Cody Wimpee, Max Burkhalter, George Burruss, Barry and Shelby Nobles, Alexa Wimpee, Hollie Walker, Trey Dailey and the mother of his children, Mary H. Wimpee. Pallbearers will be Tony Burkhalter, Max Burkhalter, Chase Wimpee, Wayne Nobles, George Burruss, Sr. and George Burruss, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bryce Harvey and Guin Butler. Doctor Wimpee was a Chiropractor in Montgomery for 49 years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastmont Baptist Church Building Fund. Visitation will be Saturday, July 24th from 5 pm 7 pm at Leak Memory Chapel and Dr. Wimpee will lie in state at Eastmont Baptist Church on Sunday from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

GAY, Mrs. Mary, a resident of Montgomery, AL, expired Saturday, July 24, 2004. Funeral arrangements and survivors will be announced later by Phillips-Riley Funeral Home.

BRANTON, Bobby J.

BRANTON, Bobby J., 64, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully on July 23, 2004. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2004, 10:00 a.m., at Prattville Memorial Chapel. Mr. Branton retired from the United States Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant after serving his country for 26 years. He also had worked at the Alabama Development Industrial Training Institute and the VA Regional office in Montgomery. He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Jeffene Branton, Prattville, AL; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Brad Ashley, of Boston, MA; two sons, Robert Branton, Steven and Jamie Branton, both of Prattville, AL; one brother, Foy Branton of Lucedale, MS; one sister, Mary Snell, of Dothan, AL; and the joys of his life, his deeply loved grandchildren and his extended family and friends. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Monday, July 26, 2004 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The family would like to extend thanks to the doctors and the staff at Baptist Hospital in Prattville and in Montgomery for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be sent to the Children’s Hospital at 1600 7th Ave. S., Birmingham, AL 35233 or the Easter Seals at 2125 E. South Blvd., Montgomery, AL 36116.

OGLETREE, Terrell Lynn, 45, a resident of Prattville, AL, died on Friday, July 23, 2004, at his residence. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial at 4:00 p.m. with Reverend Randy Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Prattville Memory Gardens with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. Ogletree is survived by his devoted wife, Brenda Woodfin Ogletree; three sons, Jason Ogletree, Prattville, AL, Ryan Ogletree and Wesley Ogletree, both of Slapout, AL; two sisters, Pam Ogletree, Atlanta, GA and July Billings, Prattville, AL; two brothers, Phillip Ogletree, Nashville, TN and Dale Ogletree, Portland, OR. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Tuesday afternoon from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m.

WILLIAMS, Mr. Aaron Selma

WILLIAMS, Mr. Aaron Selma, a resident of Montgomery, AL., 83, slipped away to be with the Lord in the early morning hours, Tuesday, July 20, 2004 in a local hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, July 26, 2004 at 12:00 noon from St. John’s AME Church with Pastor James E. Arnell, officiating. Burial will follow in Larkins Family Cemetery, with RossClayton Funeral Home, Inc., directing. Family hour and Masonic Rites will be held Sunday, July 25, 2004 from 6-7 p.m. in the Ross-Clayton Funeral Home Chapel.

His wife Eliza Larkins Williams preceded him in death. He was the seventh child and second twin born to the late Laura Steele and Rufus Williams.

He was a member of the St. John’s AME Church where he was a faithful senior usher, Lay member, Class Leader, and Steward Board member. He was a Mason with Lodge 929. Mr. Williams served faithfully in the United States Navy. He also worked for over 20 years at Ross Clayton Funeral Home.

He leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Louise Thomas, Detroit, MI.; his twin, Moses L. Williams, one sister, Pearl B. Duncan; eight nieces: Betty Harris of New York; Frances Dale, Atlanta, GA.; Sara (Gene) Johnson, Albany, GA.; Mary Alice (Cecil) Levystein, Laura (Willie) Collins, Brenda (Freeman) DeJournette, Hazel Williams, Georgia Frazier; three nephews: Cassie (Flo) Duncan, Jim (Ida) Frazier, and Alfred (Mary) Frazier, all of Montgomery, AL.; and a host of other relatives and devoted friends including, Essie Franklin, Jean Montgomery, Edward Stevens, Robert Outsey and Johnny Knight.

HALEY, Edith M., 93, a resident of Lake Jordan of Titus, AL, died Friday, July 23, 2004. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 26, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. from Brooks-Cargile Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Northcutt officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery, Phoenix, Arizona with A.L. Moore & Son Funeral Home directing. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Jennings Byers and Bill Haley; one son, Tom Byers and one daughter, Scherry Bell and one great-granddaughter, Lisa Byers. Mrs. Haley is survived by one son, Richard Byers (Peggy) of Montgomery, AL; six grandchildren, Janet Brook of Owensboro, KY, Andrew Byers of Deatsville, AL, Deborah Byers of Desert Springs, CA, Michael Byers, Dick Byers and Kirby Byers of Iola, KS; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on July 26th from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Brooks-Cargile Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Carpenters for Christ Fund of Eastmont Baptist Church.

WEIL, Nellie C., 76, a resident of Montgomery, died Friday, July 23, 2004. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, July 25, 2004 from the Chapel of Brooks-Cargile Funeral Home with Rabbi Kenneth Segel, Rabbi David Baylinson and Dr. Thomas Artmann officiating. Private Graveside Services will be in Eternal Rest Oakwood Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Alan E. Weil; children, Alan E. Weil, Jr. (Diane Hanan Weil), Evie Weil Sherrod (Jesse R. Sherrod, Jr.), Julie Weil Lovoy (Mark Lovoy), Paula Weil Artmann (Thomas Artmann); grandchildren, Hillary Weil, Rebekah Weil, Erica Weil, Brandon Sherrod, Jesse R. Sherrod, III (Tripp), Marshall Sherrod, Zachary Lovoy, Alexander Lovoy, Katye Artmann, Amy Artmann and Andrew Artmann; sister, Lucy L. Strong. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to: Gift of Life, The United Way, Temple Beth-Or.

Nellie Weil’s positive impact upon Montgomery is far reaching. She serviced 18 years as a member of the Montgomery School Board. From 1978 to 1981, she served as President of the Alabama Association of School Boards and in 198586 as President of The National School Boards Association. She was President and Chief Volunteer Officer of The Montgomery Area United Way and was it’s first female Campaign Director in 1988. Nellie Weil was a guiding force in the National Council of Jewish Women, serving as a past President of the Sisterhood of the Temple Beth-Or. She provided leadership to The Gift of Life Foundation, Rotary, and numerous other community and charitable organizations.

JONES, William Dowden, 88, a resident of Titus, AL died Friday, July 23, 2004. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, July 25, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in Montgomery Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Billy Baker officiating and Gassett Funeral Home of Wetumpka directing. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William Donald (& Elaine) Jones of Montgomery, AL. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday at Gassett Funeral Home.

Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for services on Sunday.

LEE, Rebecca Ann “Becky“, 52, a resident of Prattville, AL, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at her residence. Funeral services will be Monday, July 26, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Ridout’s Prattville Chapel. Burial will follow in Pine Level United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Lee is preceded in death by three brothers, Dennie, David and Winston Lee. She is survived by her companion, John Holland; two sons, Kevin and Jimmy Rasnake; three grandchildren, Chad, Chris, and Brett; four sisters, Minnie Rose Sullivan, Mary Lou Holloman, Daisy Mae Gordon, and Juanita Seamon; and four brothers, J. L. “Buddy“ Lee, William Earl Lee, Albert Lee and Charles Lee. Visitation will be Sunday, July 25, 2004 at Ridout’s Prattville Chapel from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

PHILLIPS, Mrs. Eva ClaRene, 84, of Dadeville, died July 23, 2004, at East Alabama Medical Center. Graveside services will be Sunday, July 25, 2004 at the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Rev. Tim Bass and Mr. Charles Pollard will officiate.

Her survivors are two daughters, Sally Rebecca “Becky“ (Don) Burton, Dadeville and Jan Phillips Jones, Dadeville; one son, Richard Gaines Phillips, Jr., Montgomery; three grandchildren, Donald Clark (April) Burton, Dadeville, Bradley Phillip (Catherine) Davis, Dadeville, and James Bryan (Anna) Davis, Tallassee; two great-grandchildren, Mikalyn Blair Davis and Natalie Jewel Davis; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Winters, Sr.; a daughter, Elizabeth Rives Winters; her parents, Thomas James and Marjorie Berry Rives; and sister, Barbara Rives Hardy; and brother, Thomas James Rives, Jr.

Survivors include four sons, Philip (Dale) Winters, Jr., of Pineapple, AL, Tom (Mitzi) Winters, of Birmingham, AL, Vic Winters of Pineapple, AL, and Richard Winters of McWilliams, AL; two daughters, Theresa (Rommy) Vistart of Mobile, AL, Eugenia (Chris) Stone of Pineapple, AL; five sisters, Margie Lindsey of Montgomery, AL, Martha Johnson of Selma, AL, Claire Bowman of Tampa, FL, Theus Davis of Demopolis, AL, Elisabeth Easters of Selma, AL; nine grandchildren, Philip Mallo Winters, III, Hunter Jones Winters, William Parker Winters, Ruth Elise Vistart, Ashley Brook Winters, Thomas Adams Winters, Christopher Carter Stone, Jr., Jordan Winters Stone, Alvin Colby Stone. Visitation will be Monday, July 26, at the McWilliams Methodist Church from 1 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. Graveside services will be at 3 P.M. at the McWilliams Cemetery with Rev. William Earnest officiating.

KEITH, Ann Gwin

KEITH, Ann Gwin, 65, a resident of Birmingham for many years, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 22, 2004. She lived the last two years in Montgomery near her sister. She was near her beloved daughters and grandchildren at the time of her death in California.

Ann grew up in the Bessemer/Birmingham area, and attended Shades Valley School, and later Auburn University. She was a secretary for UAB Dental School in Birmingham and later worked for NASA in Huntsville, AL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Judge Robert W. Gwin and Harriette Wise Gwin of Vestavia Hills, AL. She is survived by two daughters, Kelly Jeffrey (Alan) of Anaheim, CA and Shanna May (Jim) of Upland, CA. She is survived by a sister, Gay Gwin Fowler (Hank) of Montgomery, AL and two brothers, Robert ”Squire” W. Gwin, Jr. (Grace) of Birmingham, AL and David Gwin of Duluth, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 25th at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood followed by a graveside blessing at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Bessemer, AL. Rev. Bob Lockard will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Flowers welcomed or donations to the charity of choice.
