WALLACE, Velma Christine Finch

WALLACE, Velma Christine Finch, age 98, a resident of Westminster Village in Spanish Fort, Alabama, died on March 23, 2010. Mrs. Wallace was born in Arlington, Alabama on February 12, 1912 to Peyton Newell and Lucy Belle Finch. After high school graduation she attended Alabama College in Montevallo, AL. She graduated in 1934. Mrs. Wallace then began a teaching career which took her to schools in Cullman, Opelika, and Anniston, AL. In 1948 she was married to Joseph Stephen Wallace, Sr. in a ceremony at her parents' home in Browns, AL. Together they managed their ranch and farming operation for 45 years. She and her husband were long time members of Marion Junction Methodist Church. Mrs. Wallace was a devoted wife and mother who always put the needs of her family first. Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, and grandson, Thomas Newell Wallace. Mrs. Wallace is survived by her children Judith Christine Hawes (Russell) of Spanish Fort, AL, Mary Belle "Bebe" Cox (David) of Haleyville, AL, and Joseph Stephen Wallace, Jr ( Lucy) of Birmingham, AL; eight grandchildren, Chrissy, Mark (Jill) and Mary Beth Hawes, Ashley and Joseph (Neetika) Cox, and Joe, Emily, and Elizabeth Wallace, and one great grandchild, Grace Hawes. MILLS, Sarah Ann Lopez

MILLS, Sarah Ann Lopez, 75, of Knoxville, TN passed peacefully into God's Kingdom surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph & Eva Lopez and her sister Dorothy Jean Lopez Craft. Sarah is survived by her husband of 55 years, Don Mills. Children and spouses Chuck Mills, Cathy Mills, Andy Mills (Angelica) and Tricia Mills Baehr (John). Grandchildren, Laura Valentine, Birke Baehr, Brandt Baehr, Nicholas Mills, Bailey Baehr, Andrew Mills. Great Grandchildren, Shakeila Valentine, Will Valentine, Lillian Valentine, Michael Tate, Jashaun Gaines, Jaylen Sankey. She was born and raised in Montgomery and lived in Knoxville, TN most of her adult life. BELL, Elezora Alpha Chisholm, age 91, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama expired Tuesday, January 20, 2009 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from Old Ship A.M.E. Zion Church, Rev. Kathy McFadden, Pastor with Rev. Dr. Homer L. McCall of Huntsville, Alabama officiating. Interment will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery. Elezora Alpha Chisholm Bell, the eldest child born to LaRue Chisholm and Sallie McCall Chisholm, was born in Lowndes County, Alabama on June 17, 1917. She was married to the late George Steven Bell Sr., and to this union eight children were born. Elezora's parents, her two siblings, Rachel Chisholm Burrell and Robert Chisholm, and four of her sons, LaRue, Fredrick, Don and Robert preceded her in death. Nanny Bell as she was affectionately called, will be sorely missed by her children George (Ethel Moss) Bell Jr., Montgomery, AL, William (Rose Fountain) Bell, Huntsville, AL, Michael (Toni Harris) Bell, Montgomery, AL, Alpha Bell (Milton) Davis, Birmingham, AL, and Vera Alexander Bell, Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, George S. Bell III., Nashville TN, Bettina Bell (Gerald D.) Moore, Athens, AL, Brittney Bell and William Carl Bell of Huntsville, AL, Ashlye Bell, Amber Bell and Michael Bell Jr., all of Montgomery, AL, Nkele Davis and Tyra Davis both of Birmingham, AL; great-grandson, Gerald Moore II., Athens, AL; aunt, Viola McCall Lovett, Hayneville, AL; sister-in-law, Catherine Bell Neal, Newark, DE, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. BAREFIELD, Louise, 89, a resident of Montgomery, AL, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2009. Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Randy Atkinson and Chaplain Danny Robbins officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 22, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Leak-Memory Chapel and also one hour prior to the service on Friday. Mrs. Barefield was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Hoover. Her life exhibited that of a true Southern lady. She honored God, her husband, and her family. Mrs. Barefield was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Dailey of Monroe County; husband, Vernon L. Barefield and infant son, Vernon L. Barefield, Jr. She is survived by her loving brother, Steven Dailey; niece, Leslie York (Bud); three nephews, Mitchell Dailey (Kelley), Phillip Dailey (Nancy), Braxton Dailey (Nicole); one great-niece and four great-nephews. HAMMAR, Peggy Jean Martin, 75, a resident of Montgomery died Monday, January 19, 2009. Visitation will be at Leak-Memory Chapel on Saturday, January 24, 2009 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Mrs. Hammar is preceded in death by her brother, Leslie Martin, Jr. Survivors include her husband of 45 years, John Hammar; sons, Jon Hammar, Sr. and wife Olivia and Edward Hammar; and grandchildren, Jon Hammar, Jr, Katie Hammar, and Wesley Hammar. Peggy graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1951 and attended Auburn University. She was an Air Force wife who worked for the government both stateside and overseas. She raised two successful sons and was a loving grandmother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one's favorite charity or the Montgomery Humane Shelter.
