SMITH, Jerry P. (Lt. Col. Ret.)

SMITH, Jerry P. (Lt. Col. Ret.), 71, passed away after an extended illness on Friday, July 23, 2010. Born in Indiana, Jerry went on to graduate from Perdue University and earned his Master's degree from Texas A&M University. Jerry enjoyed a 23 year career in the U.S. Air Force including assignments in Alaska, Colorado Springs, The Pentagon, and Gunter A.F.S where he retired in 1983. He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Cecil Smith and mother, Willadean Smith, of Marion, Indiana, also by his step mother, Margaret Smith (Shane), and step-brother, Robert Shane. He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Virginia, and by his children, Michelle and Jerry P. Smith, Jr., by his grandchildren, Hannah, Noah and Sarah Smith of Firestone, Colorado; and also by his sister, Jackie Kellogg and her husband Phil, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Visitation services will be held on Monday, July 26, at St. Bede's Catholic Church from 5 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 27, at St. Bede's Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with a military burial commencing immediately after at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. DAVIS, Grace Wilkinson died on July 23, 2010 at John Knox Nursing Home Montgomery, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband Jefferson Carrol Davis; her daughter Linda Davis Robbins and son-in-law Steve Robbins; her parents Carlos F. and Emma Erin Arnold Wilkinson; one brother Winston Wilkinson; three sisters, Lucille W. Davis, Eloise W. Fuquay, and Bernice W. Grice. She is survived by her nephews Dr. Jerry A. Davis Tuscaloosa, AL and Thomas Cornell Wilkinson, Marianna FL, nieces Erin Davis Farmer (Mrs. L.A.) Dothan, AL, Judy Fuquay Jolly (Mrs. Allen) Greensboro, NC, and Betty Grice Bibb (Mrs. John) Nashville TN; several great nieces nephews, and great great nieces. Grace Davis was born on December 13, 1914 in Headland (Henry County), AL. She was a graduate of Troy Teachers College (Troy University), Troy, AL and Auburn University, Auburn, AL. She was a teacher by profession having taught school in Eufaula, AL before moving to Montgomery. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Montgomery where she and Jeff were married and where she taught Sunday School for forty years. She ran The Cotton Shop, a retail clothing store, in Prattville AL for twenty years. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy No. 4, The Woman's Club of Montgomery, Hypapia Literary Club of Montgomery, Bridge Club, Dalraida Garden Club, and Lois Norman's Prayer Group at First Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at Leak-Memory Chapel Tuesday July 27, 2010 at 11 o'clock a.m. with Dr. Al Parks and Rev. J. Thomas Randall officiating. Visitation will be at Leak-Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL one hour preceding the funeral service. The family would like to express appreciation to The Baptist Foundation of Alabama Montgomery AL. Special thanks are extended to Rev J Thomas Randall, Mrs. Robbie Willis, Dr. George B. GOODWYN, William Bibb Jr.

GOODWYN, William Bibb Jr., 79, died on July 21, 2010, at his home in Montgomery, Alabama. He was the son of William Bibb Goodwyn and Foy Gilmore Goodwyn, and godson of Louise Goodwyn Mustin Faircloth. He attended Auburn University where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and was on the Auburn cheerleading squad. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict. He joined Goodwyn and Murphree Construction Company following his military service, and was in partnership with his father in W.B. Goodwyn, Inc., completing many of the Montgomery, Alabama and Florida interstate highway bridges. He was a past President of The Alabama Roadbuilders Association, the Capital City Kiwanis Club, and a lifetime member of The Episcopal Church of the Ascension, serving as a vestryman. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Fleming Goodwyn, daughter, Elizabeth Goodwyn Thetford (Robert), son, William Bibb Goodwyn, III (Mary), and daughter, Foy Goodwyn McGowin (the late Samuel "Mack" McGowin). His grandchildren are Foy Goodwyn Thetford, Dorothy Thetford Bradshaw (Jere Scott), Robert Teague Thetford, Jr., William Bibb Goodwyn, IV (Lee ), John Fleming Goodwyn, Mary Lindsey Goodwyn, Elizabeth Goodwyn McGowin, Alice Adams McGowin. He is also survived by cousins Robert Tyler Goodwyn, III, George Thomas Goodwyn, Mrs. Warren Hudson Goodwyn, Elizabeth Lancaster Goodwyn Gallion, Albert Taylor Goodwyn, Tyler Goodwyn Hegenwald, Priscilla Goodwyn Mustin, James William Mustin, III, Louise Mustin Knight, and Judge Gardner Foster Goodwyn, Jr. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 P.M, Monday, July 26, 2010 at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension with the Reverend John C. Coleman, the Reverend Walter M. Broadfoot, III, and the Reverend Mark E. Waldo officiating. Visitation with the family is in Ascension Hall at 1:00. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery immediately following the service. McCORD, Myra Lee Scott

McCORD, Myra Lee Scott, 84, of Montgomery, Al and long time resident of Grayton Beach, Fl went home to join the lord on July 22, 2010. A dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother she lived her life in celebration of the Holy Spirit. She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Bert U. McCord Sr. and daughter-in- law Kaye McCord. She is survived by her son, Bert U. McCord Jr. and daughter, Susanne Davis, 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at The First United Methodist Church, Cloverdale Park on Monday, July 26th at 1 p.m. The family welcomes visitors 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mark McCord, Bert McCord III, Jason Davis, Brandon Davis, Dustin Davis and Malcolm Manning Jr.; honorary pallbearers are Tony Wilson and Lynn McDaniel. MORIANO, Ginette

MORIANO, Ginette, 81, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, who was deeply loved and will be dearly missed, died peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2010, at a local health care facility. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 30, 2010, at 1:00 p.m., from Pratt Court Baptist Church, with Brother Sidney Lanier officiating. Mrs. Moriano was born on December 14, 1928 in Meudon, France, the daughter of Archack and Mariam Derderian Alexanian. She moved to the United States in 1957 and was a long-time resident of Prattville, Alabama where she devoted her life to the loving care of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michel Moriano. She is survived by two daughters, Marie Kostick, Titus, AL and Viviane Moriano, San Diego, CA; five grandchildren, Lee Kostick, Kristin Kostick, Alexia Petre, Lars Petre, and Genevieve Petre; one sister, Jacqueline Davis, Ramona, CA; one brother, Michel Alexanian, Utah; and several extended family members.

SLATTON, Awtrey Nell

SLATTON, Awtrey Nell, 77, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2010, at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 26, 2010, at 1:00 p.m., from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial, with Reverend Ed Henne and Reverend Bruce Hose officiating. Burial will follow at Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Ms. Slatton was a loving mother and grandmother who was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. Her professional career spanned 20 years with the State of Alabama, Department of Public Safety. She was also a long- time faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Prattville. She is survived by one daughter, Teresa (Randy) Duprel; two sons, Mike (Ashley) Slatton and Jeff Slatton; seven grandchildren, Carmen Slatton, Zachery Slatton, Derek Slatton, Roman Duprel, Lacey Duprel, Brandon Duprel, and Kayleigh Duprel; one great-grandson, Carson Wright, several extended family members, and many friends. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Interment will follow in Trash Cemetery, Eclectic, AL with Ross-Clayton Funeral Home, Inc., directing. Mr. Thompson will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. He leaves to cherish his memories a son, Kenneth (Eulanda) Thompson, Mableton, GA; two grandchildren, Jasmine and Breana Thompson, Mableton, GA; one brother, Rev. MELTON, Joseph Randall "Joe", 63 of Prattville, passed away in Macon, Georgia on Tuesday, July 20, 2010.

GRISSETT, Dr. Lance D.

GRISSETT, Dr. Lance D., 74, of Talladega, AL, passed away on July 24, 2010 at his residence. Born April 26, 1936, he was a native of Troy, AL and lived his married life in both Montgomery and Talladega, AL. He was a man of faith who loved his family, his church, his community and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Dr. Grissett was a retired school administrator with over 43 years in the field of education. He served for 20 years as Superintendent of the Talladega County Board of Education. Dr. Grissett began his career in the Montgomery County Schools as a teacher and assistant principal of Sidney Lanier High School, then moved to the Montgomery County Board of Education Office as Assistant Superintendent. He also served as principal of Sheffield High School before returning to his central office position in the Montgomery County Schools. Post- retirement work involved contracting with the State Board of Education as a consultant and interim superintendent in both the Barbour County and Roanoke school systems. For the past three years, he has served on the Talladega City Council as Councilman Pro Tempore. In addition, Dr. Grissett has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Talladega for 34 years as a Deacon (chairman), Sunday School teacher, and in various committee member/chair roles. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Naval Reserve. Dr. Grissett is preceded in death by mother, Agnes Sasser Grissett, father, George Solomon Grissett, beloved daughter, Angi Elizabeth Grissett, Mother and Father-in- law, Grady and Ruth Lunsford, sisters-in-law, Marianne Grissett, Brenda Harrelson, and Margaret Jo Kenderick. His survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Elizabeth (Liz) Lunsford Grissett of Talladega, AL; his sons, Dr. Rodger Lance Grissett (Gallic), Fairhope, AL; Patrick Scott Grissett, Sylacauga, AL; and daughter, Cece Grissett Conrath (Wallace), Buford, GA. He is also survived by his 'adored' grandchildren, Kacie Joy Grissett, Julie Anne Grissett and Wallace Quinn Conrath; one brother, Paul Grissett, Niece, Leanne Grissett Drivas, and several nieces and nephews (in-laws) all of Troy, AL. CASSELL, Shirley Ann

CASSELL, Shirley Ann, born in 1936, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2010 after an extended illness. Shirley was born in Decatur, GA and was a resident of Montgomery, Alabama for the last several years, although she spent the majority of her life in Libertyville, Illinois and Laguna Niguel, California. She is loved dearly and will be remembered by her brother Kenneth Brittin of Montgomery, AL, her four children, Richard T. Cassell, II of Cathedral City, CA, Laura Ann Hintemeyer of Jupiter, FL, Christopher John Cassell of Port St. Lucie, FL, Amelia Elizabeth Middendorf of Woodstock, GA and her grandson, Joseph Matthew Johnstone of Jupiter, FL. Her greatest joys in life were watching her children grow up, her immense love of animals, and being a wonderful friend to all those close to her. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 6, 2010 at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm; also at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. BATEMAN, Jacob L., Jr., 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sat., July 31, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 yrs, Miriam and youngest son, Le. He leaves behind his eldest son, Charles "Mickey" and daughter, Miriam "Mimi,"; three grandsons, Michael (W) Lindsey, Stephen and Matthew, all of Montg., AL,; one great granddaughter, Megan Bateman of North Carolina. Mr. Quinn is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eula Duncan Quinn; daughters, Joan (Jeff) Behrens, Janice (Jim) Barrett, Jackie (Chris) Granger; one brother, Charles (Marie) Quinn; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He retired as CMSgt. from the United States Air Force after serving 33 years.
