Lillian C. Blackerby, 73, of Wilsonville died May 13, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, J.W. Blackerby, and her youngest daughter, Susan McDaniel.
She is survived by her son, Jerry (Elaine) Blackerby; daughter, Judy Crowe; five grandchildren, Ronnie, Jill, Jeff, Carrie and Eric; four great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Matt, Hannah and Amber; two sisters, Zadie Wood of Ohio and Virginia Loveless of Ashland; and two brothers, Dewey Carwile of Lineville and Thurmon Carwile of Ohio.
Funeral service was May 15 at Old Chapel Methodist Church, the Rev. Jerry Baker presiding. Burial followed at Pine Lawn Gardens, Bolton Brown Service directing.
MELBA PAYNE CHASTEEN
Calera resident
Melbe Payne Chasteen, 83, of Calera died May 13, 2002. She was born June 17, 1918, and was a member of Calera Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell L. Chasteen.
She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Skidmore of Calera; one son, Leighton L. Chasteen of Cropwell; one brother, Rex Payne of Ozark; three grandchildren, Larry Chasteen of Cropwell, Brian Ingram of Calera and Amanda Howard of Wilsonville; and several nieces and nephews.
Service was May 15 at Bolton Brown Service Chapel with the Rev. Allen Dennis presiding. Burial followed at Shelby Memorial Gardens in Calera, Bolton Brown Service directing.
BURL HAMAKER
Veteran and POW
Burl Hamaker, 71, of Randolph died May 18, 2002. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Pea Ridge. He was retired from the United States Army, and had been awarded four Bronze Stars and five Purple Hearts. He was a prisoner of war in the Korean War and a Vietnam veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Fannie Pate Hamaker; daughters, Susie Hamaker of Texas and Janice Hamaker of Texas; step-daughters, Sue Thurnhill and Nancy Gothard, both of Randolph; sons Michael Hamaker and Chuck Hamaker, both of Texas; step-sons Bobby, Carey, Coy Jr., Ted and David Pate, all of Randolph; brother, Charles Hamaker of Wilton; 29 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held at Macedonia Cemetery in Pea Ridge with an Army chaplin presiding, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.
MARY ELLEN HUDSON
Vestavia Hills resident
Mary Ellen Hudson, 92, of Vestavia Hills died May 17, 2002. She was born April 1, 1910, the daughter of William Tate and Ellen Reedy Butt Tate, and grew up in Childersburg. She graduated from Howard College and was married to the Rev. James E. Harris for 41 years until his death. Throughout most of her career, she was a teacher and a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Robert Hudson; daughter, Mary Gene Calfee (J.T.) of Lilburn, Ga.; brother, Jack Tate of Arab; grandchildren, Jud Calfee (Amanda) of Foley and Jim Calfee (Katie) of Bethlehem, Ga.; and great-grandsons, James, John, David and Daniel Calfee.
Service was May 20 at Elmwood Hills Cemetery and a memorial service followed at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church, Bishop Bob Morgan presiding. Memorials may be made in her memory to the Vestavia Hill United Methodist Church, Charter Funeral Home directing.
HERSHELL LEON "RED" ISBELL

Hershell Leon "Red" Isbell, 61, of Oneonta died May 18, 2002. He was born in Shelby County to Guy Isbell and Thelma Mae Massey Isbell and was employed as a truck driver.
He is survived by his wife, Eudean M. Isbell; two daughters, Carolyn Angela Loyd of Montevallo and Leona Annette Moore of Oneonta; one sister, Linda Kay Cooper of Oneonta; four grandchildren, Kevin Ellison, Adam Loyd, Kyle Isbell and Kody Hathcock; and two great-grandchildren, Wesley Watson and Mary Pate Loyd.
Service was May 20 at Dailey's Chapel Cemetery in Oneonta, the Rev. Johnny Hudson presiding and Lemley Funeral Chapel directing.
BETTY J. WYATT KAVELER

Betty J. Kaveler, 71, of St. Charles, Mo., died May 9, 2002. She was born May 18, 1930, in Shelby County. She graduated from Auburn University. She was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in St. Charles, Mo. She was a teacher in the St. Charles, Mo., school district for 29 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Kaveler, and her parents, James Frank Wyatt Sr. and Nannie Lee Wyatt of Vincent.
She is survived by her daughters, Gaye Sullinger and Patricia A. Kaveler of St. Charles, Mo.; sons, Paul R. Kaveler (DeVon) of Chesterfield, Mo., Phillip W. Kaveler (Claudette) of Cornelius, N.C., and Robert L. Kaveler (LuAnn) of Tracy, Mo.; grandchildren, Joshua, Rachel, Alex, Kaitlin, Andrew, Alan, Devin and Justin; sister, Margaret Northrip of Vestavia Hills; brothers, Frank (Rosemary) Wyatt Jr. of Barrington, Ill., and Embry (Sue) Wyatt of Vestavia Hills; six nephews; and two nieces.
Service was May 13 at St. Johns United Church of Christ, Baue Funeral Home directing.
B. HAROLD MORRIS

B. Harold Morris, 85, of Wilsonville died May 18, 2002. He was born June 22, 1916, and was a member of Old Chapel Methodist Church. He worked at the Powder Plant in Childersburg during World War II making ammunition and he worked at Sammy's Grocery Store for 35 years as a butcher.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise Morris; two sons, Leland (Kay) Morris of Burlington, N.C., and Tommy Morris of Wilsonville; four grandchildren, Paul Morris, Jerry (Alison) Morris, Misty (Jimmy Ray) Gordon and Matt (Cindy) Morris; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Morris Jr., Bailey Morris and Aiden Morris; one brother, Frank (Doris) Richards; and one sister-in-law, Pollye Morris.
Graveside service was May 20 at Wilsonville City Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Baker officiating, Bolton Brown Service directing.

Louise H. Reeder, 72, of Wilton died May 19, 2002. She was a member of Wilton Baptist Church for 50 years. She was the former Wilton city clerk and had worked for the city for 37 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou (Kerry) Rutherford of Helena and Wilda Moore (Charles) of Clanton; sister Jeanette Mathews of Adger; brothers, Bud Hamrick of Brierfield, Van Smith of Brierfield and Frank Hamrick of Springfield, Mo.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside service was at Montevallo Cemetery with Steve Johnson presiding, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.
JASPER W. "BUDDY" ROY
Retired from U.S. Navy
Jasper W. "Buddy" Roy, 69, of Alabaster died May 13, 2002. He was born Nov. 5, 1932, the son to Floyd and Oflia Kirpatrick Roy. He served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1959.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Adkins Roy; sisters, Bonnie F. Mathis of Helena and Margaret DiMaggio of Alabaster; one son, four daughters; and two grandchildren.

Lisa G. Clark, 37, died May 23, 2002. She was born Nov. 18, 1964. She was a lifelong resident of Dogwood, a member of Grace Chapel for four years and played softball for the church league.
She is survived by one daughter, Jennifer McCartney of Jemison; mother, Johnnie Whitehead of Alabaster; father, David Clark of Maplesville; brothers, Sammy Clark of Hacklesburg, Michael, Daryle, John Lucas and Samuel Derrick Clark, all of Selma, and David Allan Ward; sister, Anna Marie Clark; several aunts and uncles; and friends, Earl and Patsy McCartney, with whom she lived for many years.
Service was May 26 with the Rev. Dwight Joyner and Brother Billy Roper presiding. Burial was at Ryan Crossing Cemetery, Charter Funeral Home directing.
