Carl T. Pierce Sr., 81, of Calera died May 24, 2002. He was born Dec. 30, 1920, in Etowah County. He served in the United States Marine Corps.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eleanor Pierce of Calera; one son, Carl T. "Tommy" (Charlotte) Pierce Jr. of Saraland; two daughters, Carolyn Pierce (Ricky) Fochtmann of Montevallo and Linda Pierce (Gordon) Carroll of Pelham; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, James D. Pierce; and several aunts, nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was May 25 at Shelby Memory Gardens, the Rev. Marvin Edmondson presiding and Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home directing.
GEORGE "PAT" RUTHERFORD
World War II veteran
George "Pat" Rutherford, 76, of Alabaster died May 19, 2002. He was a lifelong member of Helena United Methodist Church and was a retired truck driver and a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Clytie Rutherford; his son, Kerry (Mary Lou) Rutherford of Helena; and his sister, Sara Jones of Mountain Brook.
Graveside service was May 22 at the Helena City Cemetery with Tommy Johnson presiding, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.
FRED SANDERS THRASHER
Randolph resident
Fred Sanders Thrasher, 66, of Randolph died May 19, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki Lynn Thrasher; two daughters, Tammy Quick and Tracy Downey, both of Forestdale; one step-daughter, Christie Olmstead of Tuscaloosa; three sons, Fred Sanders Thrasher III of Florida, Ricky Thrasher of Virginia and Scott Thrasher of Forestdale; one step-son, Jeff Evett of Adamsville; brothers, W.C. Thrasher of Pleasant Grove, Tim Thrasher of Hueytown and Michael Thrasher of Smith Lake; and 14 grandchildren.
Service was May 22 at Union Springs Baptist Church in Randolph with E.R. Megginson presiding. Burial followed at Union Springs Cemetery, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.
CHESTER VESTEEN LITTLE
Served in Air Force and Naval Reserve
Chester Vesteen Little, 70, of Clanton died May 23, 2002. He served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War and 18 years as a Seabee in the Naval Reserve. His military honors include the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal with one bronze star.
He was a correctional officer for 16 years at Draper Prison in Elmore County. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Clanton, Fraternal Order of Police, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Odd Fellows and the Chilton County Republican Party. He was preceded in death by his father, Timothy (Dak) Little; his mother, Ora Kinney Little; and his brothers, Carl and Robert Earl Martin.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, June Bean Little of Clanton; daughters, Mary Mims (John) of Albequerque, N.M. and Alice J. Graham (Mike) of Clanton; son, Dallas Little (Janice) of Biloxi, Miss.; and grandchildren, Trevor and Zoe Little of Biloxi, Miss.
Service was May 25 at First United Methodist Church of Clanton, the Rev. Fred Zeigler and Chaplain Dallas Little presiding. Burial followed at Memorial Gardens, Charter Funeral Home directing.
JAMES B. WARREN
Maylene resident
James B. Warren, 68, of Maylene died May 24, 2002. He was born Nov. 16, 1933, in Bibb County.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheri Caldwell of Birmingham; his son, James R. Warren of Birmingham; his parents, Boots and Pauline Warren of Maylene; his brother, Martis Warren of Pelham; his sister, Gail Walker of Montevallo; three grandchildren, Tasha, Cassie and Jimmy; and several nieces and nephews.
Service was May 26 at Bolton Brown Service Chapel, the Rev. Otis Hodnett presiding. Burial was at Ryan's Crossing Cemetery, Bolton Brown Service directing.
A.D. BURGESS
Pleasant Grove resident
A.D. Burgess, 78, of Pleasant Grove died May 27, 2002.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mildred E. Burgess; son, Paul A. Burgess (Lisa) of Pleasant Grove; two granddaughters, Stacey and Jamie of Pleasant Grove; and one niece, Florine Murphy of Chalfont, Pa.
Memorial service was May 31 at the chapel of Fairfield First United Methodist Church, Charter Funeral Home directing.
JASON DOUGLASS
Former Montevallo baseball player
Jason Douglass, 30, of Alabaster, died June 1, 2002.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alabaster. He began playing sports on the Little League baseball fields. He went on to play for Thompson High School, Central Alabama Community College and the University of Montevallo. In 1994, he was named a first team member of the All-American Baseball team. Since his graduation from Montevallo, he has umpired for the Alabama High School Athletic Association.
He is survived by his mother, Marie Douglass of Alabaster; his father, John Anderson Douglass of Alabaster; two brothers, John Douglass of Clanton and Blaine Douglass of Inverness; and his aunts, uncles and cousins.
Service was June 5 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, Southern Heritage directing. THOMAS EARL EVANS
Retired railroad engineer
Thomas Earl Evans, 76, of Montevallo died May 26, 2002. He was retired from Frisco Railroad where he was a train engineer.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Sue Evans; two daughters, Debbie Sue Reynolds and Vicky Lea Nash, both of Montevallo; a son, David Earl Evans of Warrior; sister, Vivian Brooks of Gainesville, Ga.; brother, Norman K. Evans of Gardendale; and five grandchildren.
Service was May 29 at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel with Terry Johnson presiding. Burial was a Moore's Cemetery in Montevallo, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.
DONNA REBECCA HUTCHISON
Nurse at Shelby Baptist
Donna Rebecca Hutchison, 48, of Chelsea died May 30, 2002. She was born in 1954 in Birmingham and graduated from Berry High School. She was also a graduate of the Carraway Methodist School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse at Shelby Baptist Medical Center for 22 years.
She is survived by three daughters, Melody Evans Hope, Philana Rebecca Evans and Beverly Nicole Stafford; her parents, Clyde and Beverly Hutchison; her sister, Teresa Carver; her granddaughter, Jadya Nicole Hope; two nieces, Rebekah Dawn Carver and Bailey Marie Carver, all of Chelsea; and her mother-in-law, Dot Evans of Columbiana.
Service was June 2 at Bolton-Brown Service Chapel, the Rev. Bill Phares presiding. Burial followed in Mt. Era Cemetery, Bolton Brown Funeral Home directing. Employees and physicians at Shelby Baptist Medical Center were honorary pallbearers.
RUBY EARLINE KIMBRELL
Calera resident
Ruby Earline Kimbrell, 70, of Calera died May 26, 2002.
She is survived by her husband, George Kimbrell; a daughter, Sherri (David) Abernathy of Calera; sister, Bobbie Glass of Calera; granddaughter, Mary Grimes; step-grandchildren, Stephanie, Audra, Bryan and Eric; great-grandchild, Autumn Abernathy; and great-niece and great-nephew, Shelley and Josh Brasher.
Graveside service was May 29 at Shelby Memory Garden with Carl Miller officiating, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.
