LUCY ZIMMERMAN YOUNG

Shades Valley Lutheran Church member

Lucy Zimmerman Young, 93, of Pelham died April 12, 2003. She was a member of Shades Valley Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her sister, Charlotte (Eugene) Boley of Pelham; two stepsons, Robert L. (Fran) Young of Jackson, Fla., and John Young of Wauconda, Ill.; and other family members and friends.

Service was April 16 with burial in Illinois at a later date, Charter Funeral Home directing. Memorials may be made to Shades Valley Lutheran Church.

CURTIS G. "BARLOW" ALLEN

Retired from the Shelby County Highway Department

Curtis G. "Barlow" Allen, 79, of Vincent died June 2, 2003. He was retired from the Shelby County Highway Department and attended the Sterrett Church of God of Prophecy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lithie Allen; his brothers, James, Benny, G.A., Edward, J.D. and Herbert Allen; and a son, David Allen.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Allen; his sister, Nell Howard; and several nieces and nephews.

Service was June 4 at Sterrett Church of God of Prophecy, the Rev. Wayne Craig presiding. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery, Kilgroe Funeral Home directing.

SHIRLEY L. ALLEN

Montevallo resident

Shirley L. Allen, 66, of Montevallo died June 3, 2003. She was a member of the Dogwood Grove Baptist Church and a former employee of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.

She is survived by her husband, Willie Allen Jr.; her sons, William H. Allen and Stanley Keith Allen; her daughter, Delores A. Mayerhofer; her grandchildren, Jennifer Emily, Justin and Matthew; two step-grandchildren, Greg and Rodney Alexander; her great-grandchildren, Jacob and Justice; her brothers, Tom Lawley, Hershel Lawley and Jimmy Lawley; and her sisters, Bobbie L. Cashatt, Johnnie Lou Whitehead and Donna M. Yokum.

Service was June 6 at Charter Funeral Home, the Rev. Todd Burr presiding. Burial followed in Shelby Memory Gardens, Charter Funeral Home directing. The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

LINDA ANDERSON

Helena resident

Linda Anderson, 54, of Helena died June 7, 2003. She was a member of Shelby Baptist Church in Pelham.

She is survived by her husband, Ron Anderson of Helena; her daughters, Donna (David) Robinson of Maylene and Kellie (Christopher) Hill of Auburn; one son, Nathan Anderson of Alabaster; her mother, Jessie Hosmer of Alabaster; one sister, Sandra (Bobby) Ellison of Pelham; two brothers, Terry (Shirley) Hosmer of Alabaster and Michael (Renee) Hosmer of Calera; and two grandchildren, Amber and Hannah Robinson.

Service was June 10 at Shelby Baptist Church in Pelham, Clay Parrish presiding. Burial followed in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery in Montevallo, Rockco's Funeral Home directing. The family requests memorial donations be made to the church at 419 Phillipians Blvd. in Pelham, AL 35124.

SAMUEL WILLIAM "BILL" DULANEY

World War II veteran

Samuel William "Bill" DuLaney, 87, of Chelsea died June 4, 2003, at his residence. He was born in July 1915 and was a member of the Union United Methodist Church. He was retired from U.S. Steel in Fairfield and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific arena.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wilma Holcombe DuLaney; his children, Linda Taylor, Kathi Jacobs and Stephen (Cookie) DuLaney; his grandchildren, Kevin Taylor, Rusty DuLaney and Carley Jacobs; his great-grandchildren, Nina DuLaney and Billy Jacobs; his sister, Louise Cox Clarke; and several nieces and nephews; and a special family, the Ricky Davis family.

Service was June 5 at Bolton Brown Service Chapel, the Rev. Dwain Harper presiding. Burial followed in Union Cemetery, Bolton Brown Service directing.

SERGE M. "SONNY" LAWLEY

Lifelong Shriner

Serge M. "Sonny" Lawley, 75, of Birmingham died June 4, 2003, at his brother's home in St. George, S.C. He was born in 1928 in Pea Ridge, the son of Serge and Bessie Lawley. He served 22 years in the United States Air Force where he was stationed around the country and overseas. He served in post-war Japan, in France and in the Vietnam War. Following his retirement from the military, he worked for VA hospitals across the sourth as chief of building management. When he retired from this second career, he enjoyed a more relaxed job at the Birmingham Race Course. He was a lifelong member of the Shriners and an active member of the Red Mountain Church of the United Brethren in Christ in Birmingham.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joe Wheeler Lawley and his sisters Blanche Pardue and Rita Brasher.

He is survived by one son, Mike (Joni) Lawley of Shellville, Ga.; three daughters, Pam (Earl) Brown of Dexter, Mich., Lisa (Dave) Ison of Cumming, Ga., and Beth (Danny) Waller of Valdosta, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Michael, Bobby, Drew, Derek, Josh, Amber, Sarah and Katie; one brother, Clark Eugene (Barbara) Lawley of St. George; and one sister, Jane Findley of Oklahoma City, Okla.

Service was at Rockco's Funeral Home in Montevallo on June 7, pastor Fred Johns presiding. Burial followed in Macedonia Cemetery in Pea Ridge, Rockco's directing. The family requests memorials be made to the Red Mountain Church of the United Brethren in Christ, 1831 Forest Ave. South, Irondale, AL 35210.

ANNIE GRACE MOORE

Montevallo resident

Annie Grace Moore, 87, of Montevallo died June 8, 2003, in Montevallo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Bernard Moore; her son, Gerald Everett Moore; her parents; and her brother, Everette Lee Greer.

She is survived by one daughter, Brenda (Carlton) J. Lemond of Montevallo; one son, Robert Lee "Bobby" (Barbara) Moore of Auburn; one sister, Clydine Brown of Meridian, Miss.; five grandchildren, Deborah A. Myers, Karen L. Phillips, Elaine Bradley, Suzanne Talley and Joy L. Prewitt; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Service was June 10 at Bible Baptist Church in Wilton, the Rev. Tom Hammett presiding. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Meridian, Miss., Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

KERBY "BUTCH" NAISH

Police officer

Kerby "Butch" Naish, 54, of Jemison died June 1, 2003. He was a police officer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Ray and Ruth Kerby Naish.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn Whitfield Naish of Jemison; his son, Ross Naish of Pelham; four daughters, Cindy (Tommy) Slagle of Calera; April (Jayson) Smitherman of Helen, Teri (Daryl) Byars of Jemison and Rebecca Wright of Jemison; four grandsons, Thomas Slagle, Andrew Byars, Austin Byars and Joshua Smitherman; and one granddaughter, Jessica Smitherman.

Graveside service was June 4 at Providence Baptist No. 1 Cemetery, the Rev. Larry Felkins presiding and Martin Funeral Home of Clanton directing.

BONNIE FAYE ANDERSON

Montevallo resident

Bonnie Faye Anderson, 49, of Montevallo died Aug. 4, 2003, in Montevallo. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Edward Goggins.

She is survived by her daughter, Tawana Lynn Anderson of Montevallo; her son, Randy Shane Anderson of Montevallo; her mother, Doris Faye Goggins of Montevallo; and one granddaughter, Haley Nicole Anderson.

Graveside service was Aug. 6 at Ryan's Cemetry in Maylene, the Rev. David Reed presiding and Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

BRIAN ALAN BEAVERS SR.

Harpersville resident

Brian Alan Beavers Sr., 43, of Harpersville died Aug. 11, 2003.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Beverly Beavers of Harpersville; his son, Brian Alan Beavers Jr. of Harpersville; his daughter, Bethany Camille Beavers of Harpersville; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sims R. Beavers; and his sister, Barbara (Gary) Satterfield of Pelham.

Service will be Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. at Southern Heritage Chapel with burial following in Southern Heritage Cemetery.
