BONNIE JEAN NANNINI

Retired from the University of Montevallo

Bonnie Jean Nannini, 89, of Montevallo died Dec. 10, 2002. She was born in Athens, Ala., in 1913. She was one of seven children to Willis and Anna Stinson Mooney. She was a long-time member of Dogwood Grove Baptist Church in Dogwood where she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was retired from the University of Montevallo, where she worked for many years in the Student Union Building. Following her retirement, she enjoyed traveling in and out of the United States with tour groups from the university and taking care of her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Nannini; two children, Marshall Nannini and Nelladean Nannini; and six brothers and sisters.

She is survived by two daughters, Ramona (Howard) Hancock and Nellie Marie Nannini; a son, Alan Stinson (Melissa) Nannini; three grandchildren, Michael Hancock, Laura Nannini and Anna Nannini; and one great-grandchild, Alec Hancock.

Service was Dec. 12 at Rockco's Funeral Home in Montevallo. Burial followed at Montevallo Cemetery.

G.C. "NICK" NICHOLAS JR.

Retired real estate broker

G.C. "Nick" Nicholas Jr., 94, of Birmingham died Dec. 12, 2002. He was a retired real estate broker and a native of The Plains, Va. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of Masons Palestine Lodge Number 189 in Baltimore, Md., for 60 years. He was a Shriner, former president of the Vestavia Hills Exchange Club and a volunteer for Baptist Medical Center Montclair Auxiliary.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth L. Nicholas.

He is survived by his daughter, Judy (Orbie) Medders of Birmingham; his son, Robert W. "Bob" (Jo) Nicholas of Birmingham; four grandchildren, Lesleigh (Dennis) Bolton of Leeds, Robert W. "Rob" (Kasey Kirby) Nicholas Jr. of Vance and Audra (Nathan) Whitcomb of Tampa, Fla.; and one great-grandson, Nicholas Bolton of Leeds.

Service was Dec. 17 at the Baptist Church of the Covenant in Birmingham, the Rev. Sarah Jackson Shelton and Dr. Thomas Cleveland presiding. Charter Funeral Home directed the service.

SONIA IRENE NUNNALLY

Pelham resident

Sonia Irene Nunnally, 62, of Pelham died Dec. 14, 2002. She was born in Alabama in 1924 to Earl and Audrey Richy Price.

She is survived by her husband, Fred E. Nunnally; one son, Michael Pridgen of Trussville; one daughter, Taressa Batton of Alabaster; one brother, Dennis Price of Ashville; two sisters, Jean Bosarge of Ashville and Sherry Malone of Sumiton; and four grandchildren, Shannon Batton, Josh Pridgen, Nathan Schrader and Kaley Pridgen.

Service was Dec. 17 at Charter Funeral Home in Calera, the Rev. Ray Reed presiding. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Charter Funeral Home directing.

LOUISE LUCAS STONE

Montevallo resident

Louise Lucas Stone, 85, of Montevallo died Dec. 13, 2002. She was a longtime Sunday school and mission teacher of Enon Baptist. She was an avid gardener.

She is survived by two daughters, Imogene Williams and Gale Walker, both of Montevallo; one stepdaughter, Beverly Stone of Birmingham; one son, George T. Lucas of Montevallo; one stepson, Bill Stone of Montevallo; two sisters, Lucille Hendry of Tucson, Ariz., and Joyce Schuman of Hemat, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Service was Dec. 15 at Enon Baptist Church in Montevallo, Ed Ables and Scott Watson presiding. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

HARRY R. ANDRESS JR.

Birmingham resident

Harry R. Andress Jr., 84, of Birmingham died Feb. 3, 2003. He was born in St. Louis, Mo., in 1918, and attended high school in Vicksburg, Miss. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1940. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, having served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a Distinguished Engineering Fellow at the Mississippi State University College of Engineering, a life member of the Society of American Military Engineers, an associate member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, a recipient of the Citation of Meritorious Civilian Service to the Ordinance Department of the U.S. Army during World War II, founder of Andress Engineering and Associates in 1956 and co-founder of Big Valley Towing Inc.

He is survived by his wife, Larrayne H. Andress; his daughter, Larra Andress; his son, Harry R. Andress III; and his sisters, Elizabeth Ackerman Zellman and Ruth Page.

Service was Feb. 6 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home chapel with burial following in the adjacent cemetery, Ridout's Southern Heritage Cemetery directing.

ANITA K. ANDREWS

Vandiver resident

Anita K. Andrews, 44, of Vandiver died Feb. 4, 2003. She was employed at Cardiovascular Associates and also served as a foreign missionary. She is survived by her mother, Roeterry Andrews; one sister, Melinda (Lance) Gillespie; two brothers, the Revs. Rick (Berry) and Michael (Debi) Andrews; two nieces, Halie Brasher and Dawn (Danny) Howard; and four nephews, Jordan and Alan Andrews and Wes and Cam-Cam Howard.

Service was Feb. 6 at Union Hill Freewill Church with burial following in Union Hill Cemetery in Vandiver, Kilgroe Funeral Home directing.

JOSEPHINE PARKER BABBS

Former member of Walker County Board of Education

Josephine Parker Babbs, 80, of Burnwell died Jan. 30, 2003. She was a lifelong resident of Walker County. She had retired from the Walker County Board of Education, a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Burnwell, where she served as mother of the church and church treasurer.

She is survived by her children, Collie (Sherry) Babbs, Billy (Betty) Babbs, Selester McFarlen, Edward (Patricia) Parker, James (Catherine) Dixon, Gloria Allen, LuGracie (Edward) Reese, Cordelia (Walter) Blair and Alecia (the Rev. Harry) Jones; her brother, the Rev. John (Geneva) Parker; her sister, Amanda Hannah; 27 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Service was Feb. 8 at The Saint Joseph Baptist Church in Yerkwood, the Revs. Harry Jones, Earnest Hood and Mose Edwards presiding. Burial followed in Sipsey Cemetery, Westside Funeral Home in Calera directing.

QUIN W. "DOT" BISHOP

Shelby County native

Quin W. "Dot" Bishop, 92, of Cullman County died Feb. 4, 2003. He was a native of Shelby County, a member of Covenant Life Church and a longtime member and deacon of Indian Springs Baptist Church.

He is survived by one son, pastor Jerry (Mary) Bishop of Cullman County; four grandchildren, pastor Rick (Debra) Bishop of Pelham, pastor Markus (Scarlett) Bishop of Panama City Beach, Fla., Sheri (Alan) Keith of Pelham and Aimee (Timothy) McCarrell of Riverchase; and great-grandchildren, pastor Jeremy (Trisha) Bishop of Pelham, Leah Bishop of Pelham, Virginia Lee Bishop of Panama City Beach, Fla., and Victoria Bishop of Panama City Beach, Fla., Meredith Keith, Mallory Keith, Micah Keith and Matthew Keith, all of Pelham, and Haley and Hunter McCarrell, both of Riverchase.

Service was Feb. 8 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, pastors Jerry Bishop, Rick Bishop, Markus Bishop and Jeremy Bishop presiding. Burial followed, Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing.

AUSTIN JORDAN "KIRBY" BOOTH

Infant

One-month-old Austin Jordan "Kirby" Booth of Brierfield died Feb. 2, 2003. He is survived by his mother Becca Booth of Brierfield; his father, Michael Rozier of Brierfield; his grandparents, Bobby Booth of Clanton, Wendy Booth of Brierfield, Rose Howell and J.T. Howell, both of Jemison; his great-grandparents, John Booth and Roxie Grimes, both of Brierfield and Donald McRee of West Blocton; his aunts, Karen Booth of Centreville and Kristy Stough of Jemison; his great-aunts, Jeanette Krumrie of West Blocton, Angela Colburn and Lori Estes; his great-uncles, John Booth and DeWayne Booth; his cousins, Jeffrey, Jullyane and Anthony; and a host of friends and family.

Service was Feb. 7 at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo with burial following in Ashby Cemetery, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

HERMAN A. BRASHIER

Wilsonville resident

Herman A. Brashier, 92, of Wilsonville died Jan. 31, 2003. He was retired from U.S. Steel and was a charter member of the Pelham Church of God. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Brashier; one son, Herman I. (Robin) Brashier; two daughters, Marie (A.J.) Driggers and Joyce (Jerry) Willis; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Agnes Brashier.

Service was Feb. 2 at Jefferson Memorial Chapel with burial following in Jefferson Memorial Gardens South, the Rev. Bob Collins presiding and Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home directing.

ANNIE VELMA BURNETT

Pelham resident

Annie Velma Burnett, 97, of Pelham died Feb. 6, 2003, at her home with her family by her side. She was born in 1905, the youngest and last survivor of eight children to Tom Bailey and Nettie Hawkins Bailey. Better known as "Mama Burnett," she was a member of the Pelham Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Eugene Gentry; her second husband, Maynard Burnett; her sons, Bill, Jake and Lloyd Gentry and Harland Burnett; her daughter, Helen Roberson; her granddaughter, Billie Ware; and her grandson, Ken Gentry. She is survived by her sons, Floyd Gentry and Marlin Burnett, both of Pelham, and Marvin Burnett of Helena; her daughters, Lucille McGaughy of Alabaster and Lois Pate of Pelham; 27 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.

Service was Feb. 10 at Charter Funeral Home, the Rev. Bob Collins presiding. Burial followed in Elliottsville Cemetery in Alabaster, Charter Funeral Home directing.
