ANNIE FRANCES CALVIN

Sterrett resident

Annie Frances Calvin, 75, of Sterrett died Feb. 7, 2003, at her home. She was born in January 1928 and is preceded in death by her husband, George M. Calvin Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Rutherford of Calera; her son, George M. Calvin Jr. of Alabaster; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Ott of Mobile; and one brother, Jimmy Atkinson of Trussville.

Graveside service was Feb. 9 at Mt. Signal Cemetery, the Rev. Ron Walton presiding and Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home directing.

JOHN WILLIAM CARLISLE

Grandfather of four

John William Carlisle, 63, died Feb. 6, 2003. He was a member of Rocky Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Alton and Mary Kate Carlisle, and his daughter, Marie Buchanan. He is survived by his wife, Claudette Carlisle; two daughters, Linda Duhon and Kathy S. Johnson; one sister, Merlin (Doodle) Morris; and four grandchildren, John Buchanan, Daniel Duhon, Leslie Duhon and Nicholas Johnson.

Service was provided by Southern Heritage Funeral Home.

FAYE ANN CHAFIN

Warrior resident

Faye Ann Chafin, 60, of Warrior died Feb. 5, 2003, in Birmingham. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley (David) Holt of Hayden and Divina Howse of Bessemer; one son, Roy (Mary) Burnett of McCalla; one sister, Brenda (Walt) Harper of Tennessee; two brothers, Lonnie (Dean) Green of Mississippi and Barry Green of Birmingham; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Service was Feb. 8 at Cahaba Valley Baptist Church in Brierfield, Tim Taylor presiding. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

WANDA REED HARRIS

Lifelong Shelby County resident

Wanda Reed Harris, 45, of Alabaster died Feb. 2, 2003. She was a lifelong resident of Shelby County and employed by the Shelby Baptist Medical Center.

She is survived by her children, Blake Harris Jr., Jason Harris, Jerome Harris, Jeremiah Harris, Chandra McDougle, Lucretia Harris and Jennifer Harris; her mother, Alice Porter Reed; her brothers, the Rev. George (Deloris) Reed, Stanly Eric Reed, Phillip Reed and Fredrick Reed; her sisters, Gloria Williams, Dorthy Small and Joyce (Norman) Lewis; and seven grandchildren.

Service was Feb. 8 at Westside Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Rogers Shack presiding. Burial followed in Wallace-Campbell Cemetery in Columbiana, Westside Funeral Home directing.

STEVEN ROY HICKS

Father of two

Steven Roy Hicks, 32, of Montevallo died Jan. 29, 2003.

He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Michelle Hicks of Montevallo; his son, Steve Wesley Hicks of Montevallo; his mother, Mary Hicks of Calera; his father, Jerry R. Hicks of Calera; two sisters, Lisa Dawn Hawks and Sarah Marie Hicks, both of Montevallo; his grandmothers, Gladys Reach of Montevallo and Sarah Knowles of Wilsonville; his niece, Elizabeth Nicole Hawks; his nephew, Seth Nolan Hawks; the mother of his children, Jennifer Jarvis of Montevallo; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Service was Feb. 1 at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo, Todd Burr presiding. Burial followed in Ryan's Cemetery in Maylene, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

MARGARET J. HOGUE

Montevallo resident

Margaret J. Hogue, 73, of Montevallo and formerly of Bessemer died Feb. 1, 2003. She was a member of the Montevallo chapter of the Eastern Star and a charter member of Raimund Heights Baptist Church in Bessemer. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Montevallo.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Donald Hogue Sr. of Montevallo; four daughters, Gloria (Orville) Canoles of Bessemer, Betty (Ray) Shirley of Bessemer, Debra (Kevin) Berland of Daphne and Nancy (Pat) Northcutt of Montevallo; one son, Don (Vicki) Hogue Jr. of Alabaster; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Bartley of Brookside and Jackie Hopper of Jemison; and one brother, Grover Pope Jr. of Birmingham.

Service was Feb. 4 at Bessemer Brown Funeral Home chapel with burial following in Highland Memorial Gardens, Bessemer Brown Service directing.

BRADFORD W. INGRAM

Columbiana resident

Bradford W. Ingram, 28, of Columbiana died.

He is survived by his children, Jessica and Bradford W. Ingram of Clanton; his sister, Robbie Horton of Columbiana; his brother, Ricky Ingram of Wilsonville; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Service was Feb. 10 at Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home Chapel, Brother Bean presiding. Burial followed in Columbiana Cemetery, Bolton Brown directing.

MARGARET JACKS

Montevall resident

Margaret Jacks, 86, of Montevallo died Feb. 3, 2003. She was born Feb. 16, 1916, in Kentucky. She met and married Oscar Dayle Jacks in Guatemala while she was serving as a missionary and he was serving in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Charles Scott and Nancy Margaret (Baker) Scott; her husband; and her son, Daniel Dayle Jacks. She was one of eight children.

She is survived by three sons, Jon David (Janis) Jacks of Elsmere, Ky., James Douglas (Debra) Jacks of Elsmere, Ky., and Stephen Scott (Rita) Jacks of Montevallo; several grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, Caitlyn White; and friends.

HERBERT CLINTON KEFFER II

Hoover resident

Herbert Clinton Keffer II, 66, of Hoover died Feb. 7, 2003. He was retired from U.S. Steel after 37 years of service. He was an active alumni member of Kappa Alpha fraternity and a basketball player at Transylvania College in Lexington, Ky. He graduated from the University of Kentucky. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marie Watkins of Keffer; two sons, Kevin (Penny) Keffer of Hoover and Chris (Stephanie) Keffer of McDonough, Ga.; one daughter, Jan Keffer of Hoover; and three grandchildren, Olivia, Nathan and Julia. Service was Feb. 10 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, Dr. Dennis Faust presiding. Memorial donations should be made to the Shades Crest Baptist Church Building Fund, Southern Heritage directing.

OSCAR SMITHERMAN

Wilton resident

Oscar Smitherman, 79, of Wilton died Feb. 4, 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Dessie Mae Smitherman of Wilton; two daughters, Judy (Dan) Brantley and Peggy (Wayne) Brantley, both of Montevallo; two sons, D.C. (Martha) Smitherman and Jeff (Dana) Smitherman, both of Randolph; one sister, Eloise Scott of Prattville; one brother, Cleve Smitherman of Randolph; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Service was Feb. 6 at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Randolph, Johnny Horton presiding. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

WILLIAM BRADY JONES JR.

Vincent resident

William Brady Jones Jr. of Vincent died March 28, 2003, at Baptist Montclair Hospital. He had lived in Shelby County for the past 46 years. He had retired from the Childersburg Police Department after 17 years of serviced. He was a member of the Arkwright Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Ramsey Jones; one daughter, Brenda Kay Jeffreys of Vincent; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Mary Jones Ramsey of Rainbow City.

Graveside service was March 31 at Gum Springs Cemetery in Ashville, the Rev. David Denson presiding and Kilgroe Funeral Home directing.

JAMES JUNIOR "JUNE BUG" LINDSEY

Grandfather of eight

James Junior "June Bug" Lindsey, 67, of Jemison died March 26, 2003, in Jemison.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Lindsey of Jemison; two daughters, Donna Jackson and Tammy Poe, both of Jemison; one son, James Steven Lindsey of Jemison; four sisters, Sue Cobern of Clanton, Diana Henry of Jemison, Sherry Bean of Thorsby and Terri Long of Montevallo; three brothers, Doe Edwards, Gary Edwards and Claudy Edwards, all of Jemison; and eight grandchildren.

Service was March 28 at Mars Hill Baptist Church in Jemison with Bro. William Short presiding. Burial followed in Mars Hill Cemetery, Rockco's Funeral Home in Montevallo directing.
