MIRTIE LIVINGSTON

Mother of three

Mirtie Livingston, 76, of Columbiana died March 30, 2003, at a local hospital. She was born in July 1926 in Springfield, Mo.

She is survived by three sons, Don Livingston of Pelham, Randolph Livingston and Jeff (Shelia) Livingston, both of Columbiana; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other family members.

Graveside service will be April 2 at Pinelawn Gardens, Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home directing.

JOEL THOMAS RAY

Thompson High graduate

Joel Thomas Ray, 45, of Alabaster died March 26, 2003.

He was born April 24, 1957, to Betty Jo and Albert Thomas Ray. He was a 1975 graduate of Thompson High School, was an active band member and will be remembered for his accomplishments. He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by mother, Betty B. Crumpton of Alabaster; sister, Tracy Ray Pickett (Bo) of Brantleyville; two brothers, Jerry W. Ray (Kristen Pool) of Pelham and Michael E. Ray (Dannise) of Kingdom; nephews, Johnathon and Dylan Pickett, Thomas Andrew Ray and Jordan Ryan Ray; grandmother, Louise Franklin; aunt and uncle, Bert and William "Bill" Day; and other family and friends.

Graveside service was March 29 at Elliottsville Cemetery, Charter Funeral Home directing.

KATHLEEN ROWLAND

Great-grandmother

Kathleen Rowland, 81, of Alabaster died March 25, 2003, in Alabaster.

She was preceeded in death by her husband, Homer M. New.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty Jo Cooper of Alabaster; two sons, Guerry H. New of Coral Springs, Fla., and Dale A. New of Lakeside, Ore.; three sisters; one brother; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was March 28 at Montevallo Cemetery. Rockco's Funeral Home in Montevallo directed.

ALTON D. SIMS

Self-employed carpenter

Alton D. Sims, 60, of Columbiana died March 24, 2003.

He was born Jan. 11, 1943, in Harpersville and was a self-employed carpenter.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rebecca Sims; three sons, David Sims, Ronald (April) Sims and Keith (Crystal) Sims; one stepson, Marvin Stafford; two brothers, Roy Sims and J. R. Sims; three sisters, Cathy Dobbs, Linda Talton and Janie Bearden; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and other family and friends.

Service was March 27 at Bolton Brown Service Chapel, the Rev. Vickie Horton presiding. Burial followed in Columbiana City Cemetery, Bolton Brown Service directing.

ROBERT THOMAS

Montevallo resident

Robert Thomas, 78, of Montevallo died March 21, 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine Thomas, and other relatives.

Service was March 27 at The Good Shepherd Chapel in Montevallo, the Rev. Calvin J. Meadows presiding and The Good Shepherd Funeral Home directing.

LEROY S. BLANKENSHIP

Alabaster resident

Leroy S. Blankenship, 78, of Alabaster died May 20, 2003, in Tuscaloosa. He was born in Jefferson County in November 1924.

He is survived by his children, Stacey B. (Scot) Brand, Roy Alin (Nancy Isbell) Blankenship and Brandon Lee (Donnalee) Blankenship; their mother, Catherine Childs; and six grandchildren, Blaine Brand, Kali Brand, Kaci Brand, Caitlin Brand, Kristen Brand and Anna Catherine Blankenship.

Service was May 22 at Bolton Brown Service Chapel, the Revs. Charles Stroud and John Birchett presiding. Burial followed at Pinelawn Gardens, Bolton Brown Service directing.

FLORENCE M. CORNELL

Native New York resident

Florence M. Cornell, 90, died May 21, 2003, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. She was born in 1913 in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a lifelong resident of South Bound Brook, N.J., moving to Alabama in 2001 to live with relatives. She attended Westwood Baptist Church in Alabaster.

She is survived by her son, Edward (Claire) Connell; her daughter, Marjorie Gannone in New Jersey; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Service was May 23 at Charter Funeral Home, the Rev. Ray Reed presiding. The family requests memorial donations be made to Kid One Transport in Hoover.

JAMES COOLIDGE ENGLE

Military veteran

James Coolidge Engle, 78, of Montgomery died May 21, 2003, at the Bill Nichols Veterans' Home in Alexander City. He was born in Kentucky in 1924 to James Calvin Engle and Christine Mabes Engle. Following high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he was selected for the Aviatian Cadets Class, 44J. His military career spanned three wars, World War II; the Korean War, during which he flew military air transport missions in the C-119 aircraft; and the Vietnam War, during which he flew C-134s, C-123s and other aircraft. His service record included foreign assignments in England, France and Brazil. He attended the University of Kentucky, Cornell University and the University of Colorado, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in business management and aerospace sciences. He retired in 1976 and settled in Montgomery at Maxwell Air Force Base following a distinguished service record of 33-and-a-half years.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jewell M. Potter Engle of Montgomery; his son, James Tony (Pamela) Engle of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his daughters, Carolyn (Dan) Engle Waters of Atlanta, Ga., and Shannon (Sam) Engle Bristow of Columbiana; grandchildren, Dr. and Mrs. Anthony Engle (Carrie) of Birmingham, Kristen D. Engle of Scottsdale, Ariz., Brannon Engle of Scottsdale, Ariz., David D. Waters III of Nashville, Tenn., Mr. and Mrs. Todd Mordecai (Ashley) of Atlanta, Ga., Lindsay C. Waters of Atlanta, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Will Smith (Kelley) of Columbiana, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Rush (Samantha) of Columbiana; four great-grandchildren, Chloe Ann Engle, William Blake Mordecai, Hunter Grace Rush and William Bristow Smith; and one sister, Billie Ruth Engle Sproles of Waynesville, Ohio.

Service was May 24 at Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home, the Rev. Harold Anderson of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Montgomery presiding. Burial followed at Pinelawn Gardens, Bolton Brown directing.

PATRICIA ANN GLASS

Sterrett resident

Patricia Ann Glass, 62, of Sterrett died May 22, 2003, at her home. She was born on July 1, 1940, in Jefferson County.

She is preceded in death by a son, Jerry Glass and a sister, Ruth King. She is survived by her husband, Sam Glass of Sterrett; her children, Mack (Sue) Glass of Overton, Larry (Linda) Glass of Steele, Billy (Bonnie) Glass of Birmingham, Linda (Larry) Wideman of Pell City, Rita (Bobby) Hill of East Lake, Becky Glass of Pinson and Bubby (Tonya) Partridge of Vandiver; brothers, Sonny Perrin, David Perrin and Jimmy Perrin; sisters, Barbara Holsomback, Betty Reed, Virginia Downs and Dessie Frederick; 27 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Service was May 24 at Unionhill Freewill Baptist Church with Brother David Houston and Brother Ernest Walker officiating. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery, Bolton Brown Service directing.

BILLY EUGENE GOLDEN SR.

Wilton resident

Billy Eugene Golden Sr., 71, of Wilton died May 24, 2003, in Wilton.

He is survived by his wife, Anne K. Golden of Wilton; two daughters, Stephanie (John) Fitts of Helena and Margaret (Duncan) Pickett of Montevallo; three sons, Billy (Cindy) Golden Jr. of Fairhope, Steve (Regina) Golden of Jemison and Richard (Leslie) Golden of Springfield, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, Rockco's Funeral Home in Montevallo directing.
