DOYLE E. BURNS

PELL CITY Funeral service for Doyle E. Burns, 88, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Paul Brasher officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery.

Mr. Burns died July 9. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He was retired from Fort McClellan with more than 30 years of service. He was a lifelong resident of Pell City and attended Cropwell Baptist Church as well as Eden New Hope Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Burns.

He is survived by his wife, Tera T. Burns; stepsons, Tim Towns (Debbie) of Birmingham and Ted Towns (Teresa) of Anniston; stepdaughter, Tanya Turner (Cecil) of Piedmont; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Nima B. Titlow of Bethesda, Md.; special nephew, Vernon (Sonny) Burns Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Tim Towns, Ted Towns, Cecil Turner, Vernon Burns Jr., Kenneth Burns and David Ledlow.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Ledlow, Jim Myers, Theron Dick, Harold Bean, Clyde Wesson, George Walker, Max Clay and Ken Moore.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

SCOTT LAMAR ELLINGTON

RAGLAND Memorial service for Scott Lamar Ellington, 48, will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Usrey-Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Pell City with the Rev. Doug Ford and the Rev. David Burnham officiating.

Mr. Ellington died July 7. He was a native of Bessemer and lived in Ragland for the past five years. He was a devoted husband, father, son and brother. He had a lifelong career in the auto repair business.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Lynne Ellington; sons, Brandon Scott Ellington and Ethan Andrew Ellington of Ragland; his parents, Dolphine (Dot) and John (Bo) Strickland of Pelham; and sister, Connie and husband Chris Wyatt of Alabaster.

Usrey-Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

ANNIE HOLT

SYLACAUGA Annie Holt, 85, died July 9 at Coosa Valley BMC.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Curtis and Son Funeral Home.

ANNIE RUTH JONES

TALLADEGA Annie Ruth Jones, 62, of 3938 Joe Lee Road, died July 8.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary.

WAUKENNA K. JONES

TALLADEGA Waukenna K. Jones, 44, of 3938 Joe Lee Road, died July 8.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary.

BILLY EUGENE MARTIN

VERO BEACH, Fla. Billy Eugene Martin, 71, formerly of Talladega, died July 9 in Vero Beach, Fla.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Talladega Funeral Home.

JAMES NELMS JR.

DETROIT, Mich. James (Jitter) Nelms Jr., 59, formerly of Sylacauga, died July 7.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Madden's Funeral Home.

ODELL SULLIVAN

ANNISTON Funeral service for Odell Sullivan, 75, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Anniston with the Rev. J.E. Merriweather officiating. Burial will be in Eden Hills Cemetery in Anniston.

Mrs. Sullivan died July 4 at her residence. She was a resident of Anniston and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was a dedicated member of the Matron's at Friendship Baptist Church for more than 30 years.

She is survived by her husband, John H. Sullivan of Anniston; sons, John M. Sullivan and John L. Sullivan of Charlotte, N.C.: daughters, Dorothy Holcombe, Ann Taylor and Barbara Dailey of Anniston; sister, Essie L. Washington of Douglasville, Ga.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Friendship Male Chorus will serve as pallbearers.

Matrons of Friendship Baptist Church will serve as flowerbearers.

Ervin Funeral Chapel will direct the service.

WILSON JOE TANNER

TALLADEGA Wilson Joe Tanner, 61, died July 9.

ELIZABETH G. STEWART

AUBURN Memorial service for Elizabeth G. Stewart, 93, will be Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Friendship Room at Wesley Terrace Retirement Center in Auburn with Dr. Frank Covington officiating.

Mrs. Stewart died July 22 at Bethany House after an extended illness. She was born on July 21, 1910. in Minneapolis, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Grace Wood Gosnell; two grandchildren, Douglas Stewart Stanton and Leslie Stanton White; and a great-grandchild, Maggie Amanda Machen. She was married on Oct. 31, 1931, to Calvin G. Stewart, who died on Jan. 18, 1990. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Auburn and Chapter A of the P.E.O. Sisterhood in Auburn. Cited for outstanding contributions in Sylacauga, she was named Woman of the Year. Among her many accomplishments were: Leader of women's and children's church groups, chairman of the Junior Red Cross, Girl Scout leader and board member, president of PTA Council, recipient of the Civitan Club Good Citizen Award and nominee for Alabama's Mother of the Year. After she and Mr. Stewart moved to Anniston in 1963, she attended Jacksonville State University to complete her B.S. degree in elementary education. She spent the next 10 years teaching first grade in Anniston and Alexander City.

She is survived by sister, Mira Upham (Harry) of Minneapolis, Minn.; three sons, David P. Stewart (Marlene) of Panama City Beach, Fla., Gilbert V. Stewart (Betty) of Greeneville, Tenn., and George C. Stewart (Margaret) of St. Francisville, La.; daughters, Grace S. Stanton of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Jane S. Machen (Don) of Auburn; grandchildren, Lori S. Dubetz (Michael), Ginny S. Klingman (Kraig), Terry S. Forrest (Mark), David Glenn Stewart (Susan), Debbie S. Pack (Larry), Sherri S. Gregg (Phillip), Mindy M. Keel (Bobby), Melany M. Iannuzzi (Tony) and Michael D. Machen (Polly); 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors immediately following the service at Wesley Terrace.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Bethany House, 1171 Gatewood Drive, Auburn, Ala., 36830; First Presbyterian Church of Auburn, 143 E. Thach Ave., Auburn, Ala., 36830 or Fountain of Love, Designate: Wesley Terrace, Auburn, Ala., c/o Methodist Homes for the Aging, 1520 Cooper Hill Road, Birmingham, Ala., 35210.

Fredricks Funeral Home will direct the service.

MARIE ANN BECK WILLIAMS

TALLADEGA Funeral service for Marie Ann Beck Williams, 49, of 748 Old Lincoln Highway, will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Cleveland Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Jones, the Rev. Michael Truss and the Rev. Horace Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Beck's Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams died July 19 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donell Williams; her parents, Albert Clifford Beck Sr. and Myrtle Chatman Beck; a brother, Albert C. Beck Jr.; and a sister, Amelia Beck. She was a 1972 graduate of Talladega County Training School and received degrees from New World Business College in Anniston and Central Alabama Community College in Childersburg. She was a member of Howard's Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the Stewardess Board, president of the Missionary Society and chair of the hospitality and beautification committees. She was a member of the Talladega County Central High School's Athletic and Band Booster Clubs and a member of the school's PTA. She was a former employee of the Talladega County Board of Education, was a former employee of Mutual Savings Insurance Company and was owner and operator of Marie's Barber and Style Shop.

She is survived by daughters, Shea Chiffon Keith and Monique Williams of Talladega; son, Derrick Maurice Williams of Talladega; sisters, Barbara J. Storey, Juliette Collins, Janice B. Truss, Delois Cook and Annie Beck Eaton of Talladega and Victoria Beck Tolley of Birmingham; brothers, John Beck Sr. of Talladega and Cedric T. Beck of Lincoln; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 until 7 p.m.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Pallbearers will be Bernard Tuck, Glencie Garrett, Willie C. Tuck Jr., Willie Ervin Hall, Spencer Collins and Greg Garrett.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sgt. Acardia Garrett, Sgt. Torrence Beck, Lt. John Beck Jr. and Dante Beck.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

LOTTIE E. DIAL

TALLADEGA Funeral service for Lottie E. Dial, 88, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Midway Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Dial died July 21 at Talladega Health Care Center. She was a native of Clay County and a resident of Talladega. She was a homemaker, a charter member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Horn's Memorial Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Arnold Dial; two daughters, Nettie Dial Horton and Betty Jean Dial; and one son, Roy Dial.

She is survived by sons, Joe Dial, Wayne Dial, Jimmy Dial and Johnny Dial, all of Talladega; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Josh Toney, James Colburn, Larry Patterson, Joey Culver, Johnathon Hurst, Billy McDowell, Glen Horn and Huel Love III.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Mellon, Norman Culver, Walter Taft, Vance Horn, Vernon Horn, Houston Durham, James Dial and Scott Spradlin.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home will direct the service.
