PHILLIP W. ALVERSON
WEOGUFKA—Funeral service for Phillip W. Alverson Sr., 59, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Weogufka Family Worship Center, the Rev. Tommy Thornton officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
Alverson died July 25 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. A 1966 graduate of Auburn University, he was a pharmacist and was owner-operator of Alaco Discount Pharmacy in Sylacauga. He later worked at CVS Pharmacy before retiring in 1998.
He was a member of Weogufka Worship Center, where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Mr. Alverson was a devoted husband and father. A godly man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends whose lives he touched over many years.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; a daughter, Jill Porier Bowden; a son, Phillip Alverson, all from Sylacauga; a brother, Mitchell Alverson of Pell City and a sister, Jacqueline Davenport of Atlanta; and four grandchildren, Bethany Bowden Marks, John Bowden, Rebecca Bowden and Elizabeth Alverson.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Tom Hudgins, Wade Alverson, Craig Alverson, Judd Alverson, Ken Dorough and Keith Dorough.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Weogufka Worship Center.
Curtis and Son Funeral Home of Sylacauga will direct the service.
MARGIE LAKEY DAY
TALLADEGA—Graveside service for Margie Lakey Day, 87, will be 3 p.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Kenneth Bullard officiating.
Day died July 27 at her residence. A native of Clay County, she lived most of her life in Talladega County and was a member of First Baptist Church of Talladega. She owned Margie’s Beauty Salon and was active in hairdressing for over 60 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Sue Wright of Talladega; a son, Walter Edward Roberson of Corpus Christi Texas; 5 grandchildren, Tony L. Rutledge, Mark Edward Roberson, Katherine Elizabeth Rooks, Jennifer Darlene Turner and Sarah Alexandra Larsen; 3 step grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.
Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega will direct the service.
CHRISTIE LITTLE ALTON
ALPINE—Graveside service for Christie Little Alton, 73, 856 Davis Acres Drive, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Forest Hills Cemetery, a U.S. Air Force chaplain officiating.
Mr. Alton died July 26 at his residence. A native of Oklahoma, he was a resident of Talladega County since 1970 and was retired from the U.S. Air Force.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Reneé Little and a sister, Ellen Shackelford.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy C. Little; a daughter, Ronda Childers of Warrior; three sons, Randy C. Little and Russell W. Little of Talladega and Robert A. Little of Cropwell; a sister, Paquita Webb of Tulsa, Okla. and three brothers, Cecil Little of Cropwell, Michael Little of Chula Vista, Calif., and Daniel Little of Oklahoma City, Okla.
Members of the U.S. Air Force will serve as pallbearers.

HARVIE LEE BAILEY
SYLACAUGA—Funeral service for Harvie Lee Bailey, 89, will be at 2 p.m. today in the chapel at Curtis and Son North Funeral Home, the Rev. Donald Grice and the Rev. James Maddox officiating. Burial will be in Flint Hill Cemetery
in Alex City.
Bailey died July 25 at his residence. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Childersburg.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Minnie L. Johnson and Clara E. Bailey; and three children, Annie Sue Bailey, Delmar Cook and Clara Garrett.
He is survived by four sons, James A. Bailey of Sylacauga, Oliver E. Bailey of Deatsville, Curtis Bailey of Marbury and Kenneth Bailey of Prattville; two daughters, Delois Owings and Linda Stallings, both of Sylacauga; 45 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Chistopher Bailey, Scott Bailey, Billy Bailey, Phillip Thornton, Bobby Bailey, Andrew Byrd, Daniel Bailey and Clayton Waites.
Curtis and Son Funeral Home, North Chapel, will direct the service.
ANNISTON—Etta Duff died July 25 at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

DONALD C. HARKINS
CALHOUN, GA.—Funeral service for Donald C. Harkins, 78, of the Scottsville community was Friday at Plainville Independent Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Bobby Stevens officiating. Burial was in Fain Cemetery.
Harkins died July 23 at Gordon Hospital. A native of Floyd County, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific, where he earned two Bronze Stars.
He is survived by his wife Elaine; two daughters, Carole Bridges of Scottsville and Linda Garing of Pell City; two sisters, Pattie Matthews of Rome, Virginia King of Pensacola Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Thomas Funeral Home directed the service.
HUBERT ALVIN HOWARD
LINCOLN—Funeral service for Hubert Alvin Howard, 74, was Saturday at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Anniston with the Rev. Rick Reaves and the Rev. Barry Howard officiating. Burial was in Blue Eye Cemetery.
Howard died July 26 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. A native of Alexandria, he was a resident of Lincoln for 52 years and retired from M&H Valve with 40 years of service. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and a former deacon and Sunday School teacher at Blue Eye Baptist for 45 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie; two sons, Michael Howard of Birmingham and Keith Howard of Lincoln; four sisters, Ann Aderholt and Mildred Scrimsher, both of Athens, and Sue Jennings and Lois Jones, both of Ohatchee; five brothers, Edward Howard of Saks, Raymond Howard of Weaver, Laymond Howard of Ohatchee, Cecil Howard of Lincoln and Ralph Howard of Oxford; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Gary Aderholdt, Stanley Jones, Bill Phillips, Jerry Calhoun, George Neal Phillips Jr., Leonard Wayne Johnson, Tommy Carlisle and Matt Grier.

BON AIR—Funeral service for infant Braxton Lee Johnson will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. Bill Percy officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Johnson died July 25 at Coosa Valley BMC. Parents are Jessica Lechter and James Ryan Johnson of Bon Air.

WILLIAM EDWARD MARTIN
ALEXANDER CITY—Funeral service for William Edward “Bill” Martin, 78, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Bassham, the Rev. Ron Gonia and the Rev. Mickey Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Hillview Memorial Park.
Martin died July 26 at Russell Medical Center. A native of Birmingham, he was a graduate of Auburn University and a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served on the administrative board and as a Sunday School teacher, and where he worked at First National Bank. He served in the 8th Airborne Division of the Army Air Corps during World War II, as a crew member on B-25 bombers in Italy.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Moore Burns.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen Snowden Martin; a daughter, Linda Martin Huffman of Concord Ga.; two sons, William Martin Jr., of Hoover and Frank Martin of Sylacauga; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Lois M. Thompson of Dadeville and Jean Williams of Auburn.
Radney-Smith Funeral Home of Alexander City will direct the service.
LISA J. MURPHY
SYLACAUGA—Funeral service for Lisa J. Murphy, 46, will be Monday in the chapel at Radney-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Morris officiating. Internment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
Murphy died July 26 at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham. A native of Sylacauga, she was married for 29 years and bowled in several women’s leagues in Talladega.
She is survived by her husband, John L. Murphy; two sons, Jonathan and Jeff Murphy, both of Sylacauga; her parents, Winfred and Onie Trussell, also of Sylacauga; two sisters, Denise Pitts of Sylacauga and Cynthia Holt of Leeds; and a brother, Tommy Trussell of Sylacauga.
Pallbearers will be Joseph and Daniel Murphy, Ric Pitts, Darron Trussell, Jim Magouryk and Steve Peoples.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m.
Radney-Smith Funeral Home will direct the service.
RUTH WATTS PEARSON
SYLACAUGA—Funeral service for Ruth Watts Pearson, 71, of Las Vegas will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel at Radney-Smith Funeral Home.
Pearson died Jan. 9 in the Sunrise community in Las Vegas, Nev.
Burial will be at Fayetteville Cemetery.

ANNISTON—Marcus Odell “Tiny” Russell, 31, died July 26 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital.
