Dovie “Bonnie” Baggett

Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, Atmore

Dovie “Bonnie” Baggett, 70, of Uriah died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007 at her home.

Baggett was a native of Excel, a former resident of Saraland and a resident of Uriah for the past 37 years. She was the owner and operator of Baggett’s Grocery Store and she attended Mineola Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Oneal Williams.

Survivors include a son, Rondall “Ronnie” O. Williams of Uriah; a daughter Debra E. (Glenn) Peacock of Uriah; a brother, Tommie B. (Linda) Hicks of Saraland; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Mineola Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne McMillian, Rev. Marlon J. Brown and Bro. Tony McMillian officiating. Burial followed in Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Byron J. Bailey

Monroe Chapel, Monroeville

Byron J. Bailey, 71, of Monroeville died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007 at Monroe County Hospital.

Bailey was a native of Pickens County and had lived in Monroeville since 1977. He worked as a supervisor with Alabama River Pulp and was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church in Monroeville.

Survivors include his wife, Bette Jayne Bailey of Monroeville; two sons, Byron Scott Bailey of Brewton and Robert Christopher (Dana) Bailey of Birmingham; and one granddaughter.

Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. at Memory Hill Gardens in Tuscaloosa with Rev. Gene Pickern officiating. Burial followed in Memory Hill Gardens.

William Oman Brown

Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville

William Oman Brown, 84, of Monroe County died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007 at the William F. Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette.

Brown was a native of Armadle, Scottland. He had worked for the public service as a lineman and was a member of the Monroeville United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. in Pineville Cemetery in Monroeville with Rev. Bob Penton officiating. Military honors will be given by the Monroe County Honor Guard.

Eva Milstead Horton

Lathan Funeral Home, Jackson

Eva Milstead Horton, 99, of Jackson died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007 at her home.

Horton was a native and resident of Jackson. She was a homemaker and was a member of Good Springs Baptist Church and a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, Santa Fe Lodge #225 in Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. Horton Sr.; sons, Richard A. “Billy” Horton Jr. and Hugh Horton; daughters, Emma H. Andress, Novalene H. Woodham, Margaret H. Wiggins and Myra H. Miller.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy (Dean) Horton and Terry (Kate) Horton, both of Jackson; three daughters, Carolyn (Jack) Green and Linda (Cecil) Jackson, both of Jackson and Teresa (Larry) Howell of Cantonment, Fla.; four sisters, Irma Bumpers and Emmarene Dolbear, both of Jackson, Otto Milstead of Huntsville and Aubrey Milstead of Greensboro, N.C.; 31 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Lathan Funeral Home. Burial followed in Winn Community Cemetery.

Mary Jo Lee

Monroe Chapel, Monroeville

Mary Jo Lee died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007 at her home.

Lee was a lifelong resident of Monroe County and retired from Vanity Fair Company after 42 years of service. She was an active member of the Coleman Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include her husband, R. V. Lee of Monroeville; one son, Rex (Teresa) Lee of Monroeville; three daughters, Kathy (Don) Ikner of Elk City, Okla., Betty (Bob) McNider of Monroeville and Linda (Mike) Hooks of Ashland, Tenn.; two brothers, Erskin Skipper of Montgomery and Gerald Skipper of Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Barbara Bodiford of Monroeville and Faye House of Excel; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Friday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home in Frisco City officiated by Bro. Mitch Jordan assisted by Bobby Boatwright and William Bodiford. Burial followed in the Excel Cemetery in Excel.

Mazie Belle Petty

Monroe Chapel, Monroeville

Mazie Belle Petty died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007 at her home.

Petty was a native and lifelong resident of Monroe County and a member of the Excel Church of the Nazarene.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred E. Petty and a son, Winfred Wayne Petty.

Survivors include a daughter, Gail (Wayne) Wright of Monroeville; a son, Garland (Edith) Petty of Monroeville; five brothers, Eugene Turberville, Clark Turberville, Earl “Bo” Turberville and Everette Oniel Turberville, all of Excel, and Kenneth Turberville of Franklin; four sisters, Mary Ellison and Ruth Stinson, both of Stapleton, Nell Burns of Thomasville and Betty Boatwright of Robertsdale; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at Monroe Chapel with Rev. Greg Wood and Rev. J.T. Lambert officiating. Burial followed in Union Cemetery in Frisco City.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.

Lowell Morton Ward

Monroe Chapel, Monroeville

Lowell Morton Ward died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007 at Infirmary West Hospital in Mobile.

Ward was a native of Monroe County and a resident of Mobile since 1969. He retired from the United States Army as a Specialist 5, F-5 and was a member of VFW Post 49 in Mobile. He had worked as a security guard for several security companies in the Mobile area.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Marie Davis of Columbia, S.C.; a brother, Fred B. Ward of Monroeville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at Monroe Chapel with Rev. David Hudson officiating. Burial followed in Shiloh Cemetery in Frisco City.

Charles R. Weaver

Monroe Chapel, Monroeville

Charles R. Weaver, 53, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007 at his home in Mobile.

Weaver was a native of Mobile County and had lived in Mobile most of his life. He worked as a superintendent in general construction. He had served in the United States Marine Corp. from March 14, 1972 to Dec. 12, 1975. He was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of Stapleton Church of God.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Walker Weaver.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Wasden Weaver of Mobile; a son, Charles Ritchie (Holly) Weaver II of Saraland; his mother, Verdie Stinson Weaver of Stapleton; a brother, Michael Dennis Weaver of Mobile; two sisters, Cornelia Denise Warren of Loxley and Susan Darlene McEvoy of Spanish Fort; and one grandchild.

Services were held Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. at Monroe Chapel with Rev. J.P. Lambert officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Frisco City.
