William Preston Robinson
Penn’s Funeral Home, Monroeville
William Preston Robinson, 22, of Beatrice died Wednesday, April 9, 2008 in Logan Memorial Hospital in Russellville, Ky. due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Robinson was a native of Clarksville, Tenn. and was a stockman at Wal-Mart in Clarksville. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one daughter Lei’Lani Green of Clarksville; one brother, Tommy McCreary of Clarksville; and four sisters, Tameika McCreary of Clarksville, Molly Marshall and Shayla Marshall, both of Beatrice and Valerie Dailey of Coy.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 18 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Penn’s Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 19 at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Vredenburgh with Rev. McNair Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Beatrice.

Jarelia Burke
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Jarelia Burke, 98, of Citronelle died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Springhill Medical.
Burke was a native of Monroe County and lived in the county most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Perry Eugene Deans and Charlie Deans, both of Plataeu; and one daughter, Bessie Lee Rogers of Citronelle.
Viewing will be held Friday, May 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Jones Unity Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.

Willie Lee Davis
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Willie Lee Davis, 91, of Sylacauga died Wednesday, May 7, 2008 in Sylacauga.
Davis was a native of Gosport. He was a member of Mackey Branch Baptist Church and Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church in Sylacauga where he served as a trustee and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the United States Army where he received an honorable discharge upon completion of his tour of duty.
In the 1940s he served as an instructor of the United States veterans in Sylacauga. He was a recipient of a Doctorate Degree in Education from New York City College and attended Alabama State the Bethlehem Industrial Academy (BIA) in Monroeville. He was employed as principal at East Highland High School (now Mountain View High School). He retired in 1985.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Netta Steel of Sylacauga.
Services were held Saturday, May 10 at 11 a.m. at Mackey Branch #1 Baptist Church of Gosport with Rev. T.L. Douglas, pastor officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Tellie Dean
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Tellie Dean, 102, of Gosport died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Monroe Manor Nursing Home.
Dean was a native of Clarke County but had lived in Monroe County for many years. She was a member of Mackey Branch #1 Baptist Church of Gosport.
Survivors include five grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17 at Mackey Branch #1 Baptist Church in Gosport with Rev. T.L. Douglas, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Robert Kenneth Lambert
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Robert Kenneth Lambert, 68, of Mineola died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at Monroe County Hospital.
Lambert was born in Frisco City and had resided in Mineola most all of his life. He had been in the logging industry and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Grace Lambert of Frisco City; one daughter, Beverly (Vince) Byrd of Mineola; three brothers, Larry Lambert of Eliska, Wayne Lambert of Monroeville and Ronnie Lambert of Frisco City; one sister, Sue Jones of Saraland; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Eliska with Rev. Pete Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Frisco City.

Johnnie William McKenzie
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Johnnie William McKenzie, 97, of Mexia died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 in Monroeville.
McKenzie was a resident of Monroe County most of his life and he was a member and deacon of the Oak Grove Baptist Church for many years. He was also a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church Brotherhood.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie W. McKenzie; and a daughter, Ouida Jeanette McKenzie.
Survivors include two sons, William J. (Deloris) McKenzie of Mobile and Rev. Bobby G. (Shirley) McKenzie of Mexia; three daughters, Louise (Douglas) Hendrix of Monroeville and Betty J. (Kenneth) Smith and Mildred Dean (Frank) Jay, both of Mexia; one sister, Katie McKenzie of Wainwright; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, May 9 at 2 p.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Hodges officiating. Burial followed in Mexia Cemetery in Mexia.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Asera Care Hospice, 1978 Highway 21 Bypass, Monroeville, AL 36460.

Silas Garrett Tucker Sr.
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Silas Garrett Tucker Sr., 80, of Uriah died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at the North Baldwin Hospital in Bay Minette.
Tucker was a native of Monroe County and had lived in Uriah most all of his life. He had owned and operated Tucker Feed and Seed Store in Uriah and was a member of the Uriah United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Tucker of Uriah; one son, Garry (Sandy) Tucker of Watkinsville, Ga.; three daughters, Jean (Dusty) Rhodes of Vicksburg, Miss., Susan Cofield of Uriah, Martha (Wesley) Stuckey of Dalton, Ga.; one brother, James Arthur (Eulene) Tucker of Uriah; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, May 14 at 11 a.m. at the Uriah United Methodist Church with Rev. John Coker and Rev. Jean Spikes officiating. Burial followed in the Uriah Cemetery.

Charles Gordon Brown
Cope Funeral Home, Monroeville
Charles Gordon Brown, 79, of Repton died Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at his home.
Brown was born in Worster, Mass. He served in the Army during World War II and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was post commander of the American Legion Post 105 of Newport, Maine, first commander of the American Legion Post 88 of Mobile, member of Masonic Lodge #575 of Repton and a member of the V.F.W. 49 of Mobile. He was a member of the Springhill United Methodist Church. He was an auto mechanic.
He was survived by his partner, Jennifer K. Brown of Repton; five sons, Brady Brown, Bruce (Kathy) Brown and Bill Brown, all of Mobile, Bryan (Barbara) Brown of Stevenson and Barry (Becky) Brown of Lenox; three daughters, Valerie (Darrel) Spencer of Hurley, Miss., Velvet (Peter) Bianco of Dade City, Fla., and Robin (Roger) Tillman of Mobile; two sisters, Helen Rankin of East Hiram, Maine and Rita Lonngroth of W. Boyston, Mass.; and a number of grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 11 a.m. at Springhill Methodist Church of Repton. Burial followed in Springhill Methodist Church.

Alexander “Spoo” Davison
Penn’s Funeral Home, Monroeville
Alexander “Spoo” Davison, 66, of Frisco City died Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at his home.
Davison was a native of Frisco City and had lived most of his life in Monroe County. He retired from Vanity Fair Dye house in February 2006 after working 27 years. He was a member of the Holy Church of God Pentecostal #2 Church of Frisco City.
Survivors include one brother, Charlie Davison of Excel; and three sisters, Ollie Knight of Atmore, Susan Davison of Clawson, Mich. and Elvira Davison of Frisco City.
Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 19 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Penn’s Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. at Penn’s Chapel with Rev. Matthew Davis officiating. Burial will follow in McConnico Cemetery.

Gerald Dean Johnson
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Gerald Dean Johnson, 57, of Laurel, Miss. died Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at his home.
Johnson was a native of Monroe County. He had worked for a tire company for several years.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lottie Bell Ikner.
Survivors include his children, Marie Luker, Angela James and Cody Johnson, all of Laurel; his brother, Larry Dean Johnson of Monroeville; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. at Poplar Springs Cemetery in Uriah with Rev. Billy Hodges officiating.

Nettie Lou Lilley
Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, Atmore
Nettie Lou Lilley, 88, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008 in Monroeville.
Lilley was a native of Excel and a resident of Enon. She was a former welder at a Mobile shipyard and a retired employee from VF Mills after 22 years. She attended Enon Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry “Bill” Lilley; and an infant brother.
Survivors include three daughters, Peggy Ann (James) Petty and Mary Ellen (Melvin) Harrelson, both of Enon and Carol Elaine (Clifford) Chavies of Chrysler; a brother, Collie Rae “Bo” Hughes of Cantonment, Fla.; a sister, Marguree Womack of Atmore; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. at the Enon Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Gibson officiating. Burial followed in Enon Cemetery.
